Stepping out of the den for the first time in days, Vodnitvar allowed his limbs to stretch out in the warm glow of the sun. The sand sending warm jolts of energy through his paws. Today was perfect.

Looking back at the den he saw the rambunctious cubs and couldn't help but grin with pride. He was a Daddy now. Something he would never have expected of himself. But now that he had the responsibility, he found a whole new side of himself coming to the surface. He was happier, even happier than when he was alone with Fireheart. He was full of pride, since the day of the birth he'd wanted nothing but to show them off. To prove to the world that not everything about him was bad. He'd made a fine batch of cubs, and he couldn't wait to see each and everyone one of them grow up. He knew regardless of where their life took them, he would always support them. But he would still instill in them everything he wanted them to know. He would never leave his cubs with a lack of fighting knowledge, and he knew Fireheart wouldn't either. It was part of what made them such a great pair, and now even greater parents.

Turning his paws back into the den he huddled around his cubs, his chest puffed out slightly and a sincere look on his face.

"Well, today is the day. I expect all of you to obey your Mother and I. We've been anticipating this day for a while, let's all go out and enjoy it."

It was their first introduction to the pride, and also their first real chance to leave the den. He knew Chaska especially had been dying to escape the confines of this prison, and now he could.

"Do us proud children."

He winked slightly at them, and then bowed his head in respect before turning to Fireheart.

"Now before we go out, let's see what Mom has to say."

Fireheart was about as excited as the cubs. They would finally be let out of the den today. They were old enough to meet the pride and learn the area, which meant that they wouldn't be confined to such a small space. They could learn new things, meet new friends and, most importantly, she could get back to her duties. She loved her cubs, of course, but being cooped up in there was torture. She felt like one of them herself.

Fond eyes watched as Vodnitvar gave their children a little pep-talk. She bobbed her head as he spoke to her, a warm smile on her face. This was exciting for the cubs, she knew, but it was also nerve-wracking for their parents. Best to keep a good face about it. "Stay close to us while you're learning," she said softly. "You'll be allowed to go off on your own once you get the tour. I don't need you getting lost and crying to someone that you can't find your way home."

Nicolae eagerly peeked out of the mouth of the cave, his ears rolling forward and his paws dancing eagerly under him. He had been curious, but cautiously so, regarding the world outside. There was a constant hiss of water that had become background noise. He couldn't imagine the world without it. The smell of brine, the cries of gulls, and the texture of sand under his paws were as normal as breathing to him. He simply had known nothing else- but he didn't know their source. The sea, of course, was visible from the cave but for all he, or his siblings, knew it was just a big shining thing so far away from the world they had known for the last few weeks. It sparkled, shimmered, moved, and sometimes something broke from the surface only to vanish in a spray of white foam.

The gulls, too, he had seen from a distance. Birds about the size of a cub with beady black eyes, large limbs that somehow let them leave the ground. The rest of the world was a complete mystery. There were stories, certainly, but they meant nothing without anything to compare it to.

He dropped his backside back to the ground and listened as his father and mother gave the litter their expectations of this trip. Stay close, behave, and make them proud.

Proud.

Nicolae drew in a deep breath and filled his tiny chest cavity, puffing himself up as much as he could manage. "Okay..."

Chaska pushed his way past his siblings. A little shove here. Opps, that wasn't me. He skirted around his brothers before they turned around to see who pushed them. There, front and centered. His tail twitched in agitation since he was a little late to the party. It seems everybody decided to get up while he was napping! Whatever, he'll still get out and play. Wait...what was dad saying? His feet began to drum against the ground. Yes, of course he'll be good...well, mostly. No guarantees. He puffed out his chest at his mother's words. "I won't get lost!" He glanced at his siblings and a wicked grin spread across his face. It wouldn't be his fault if they got lost though. A giggle escaped his teeth. He covered his mouth with a paw. No need for the parents to send him back to the den. Hopefully, they didn't hear him.

Chaska's little body couldn't sit anymore. He shot forward and wound his way through his mother's legs before pressing up against his father's front paw. "Can we go now..." Head up, eyes large. "Pweeeeaaassseee?" That should do it. He couldn't wait to finally get out!

Hana'Hofu listened to her parents with her ears pricked forward intently. While she didn't understand the full importance of today, she definitely understood one thing - they were finally going to go outside. A happy purr rumbled in her throat as she kneaded the ground in anticipation with her forepaws. She focused on the feeling of sand between her toes; extending her tiny but thorn-sharp claws, she dug small furrows in the floor of the den. Wait, what was Mom saying?

As she tried to force herself to listen to her parents' instructions, she felt someone shove her from behind. She let out a short cry of indignation and flattened her ears. Whipping her head around, she caught sight of her brother, Chaska, pushing his way through his siblings.

Setting her mischievous gaze on Chaska she crouched low, her belly fur brushing the ground as she wiggled her haunches. With a playful roar, she launched herself at Chaska, landing squarely on his shoulders and flattening him to the ground. Leaning down, she teasingly growled in her brother's ear, "Do you think you can push me around just 'cause I'm a girl?"

Chaska yelped before an 'humph' escaped his lips while his body flattened against the ground. His blue eyes stretched wide in surprise before becoming clouded in anger. Who dares jump onto his back?! First it was Asker who almost (stress the almost) beat the crap out him earlier and now it was another one! What was wrong with his siblings? A tiny squeak pipped through his nose as he turned his body into a limp noodle. Hana'Hofu lost her balance at Chaska's sudden jelly like nature. Then he flung his paws up and rolled over, grabbing her by the belly to pin her down. "Only when they're in my way!" He belted out a roar in satisfaction. That'll show his siblings to mess with him. Though, hopefully Asker wasn't paying attention. He didn't need to get into another fight.

He did his best to hold strong to his 'stiff upper lip' strategy, but the cubs were just too darn cute. He probably could have done a better job by not looking them in the eyes, but that was unquestionable! Such adorable faces deserved to be seen by everyone. Which is precisely why he had convinced Fireheart to release them from their prison early.

His sincere expression cracked at the edges as he tried to hold it back. But one look at Chaska, and he knew it would do him no good to hold them much longer.

"We're almost ready .... where's your sister?" He asked with a questionable tone, looking around the den for the first time.

He saw no sign of his youngest daughter, instead taking note of his rambunctious oldest daughter. He couldn't help but beam with pride at her fighting spirit, it was a relief to know it had instilled itself into each one of them.

"Easy Hana, if you beat him up too badly we'll just have to stay inside longer!" With a sly wink, he ruffled the fur atop Chaska's head happily. Finally allowing his eyes to land on Nicolae, his youngest son, and possibly the most serious of the bunch.

"All set Nicolae? We're just about ready, just have to find -"

"Here I am Daddy!"

Vanellope squealed with glee as she pounced on her Father's tail. Sinking her sharp little claws into his meaty flesh. "Oops sorry!" She frowned innocently before backing away quickly.

"I'm just so excited! Today is the day, I get to go outside - I mean WE! We get to go outside!" Prancing around her Mother's paws at this point she hopped from one paw to the next, "Is it time yet? Please say its time!" She couldn't bare to wait another minute, everyday since she could see she'd glared out of the cave. Waiting for her parents to finally tell them it was OK to run, play, discover ... LIVE.

Vanellope inhaled a deep breath of fresh air, still hopping from paw to paw. "You guys are doing this on purpose aren't you?" Tapping her Mom across the paw, she allowed her eyes to trace the intricate pattern on her Mother's pelt. Then she took a quick glance at her siblings, all of them at least slightly similar to the next, except her...

Shaking the thought free from her mind, she looked back up at her Mom with pleading eyes. "Pleeeeease can we go now?"

At her father's words, Hana smiled broadly. Returning her gaze to her brother, she glared daggers at Chaska and stuck her tongue out before pushing her hind paws into his soft underbelly and heaving the dusky cub off of her. As much as she would enjoy shredding Chaska's ears for his snarkiness, Hana would much rather go outside.

Scrambling to her paws, Hana raced to her sit at her father's paws, back straight and tail wrapped over her paws, as close to the picture of innocence as she'd ever get. Gazing sweetly into each parent's eyes in turn, while fidgeting with excitement, she echoed Vanellope.

"Yeah - pleeeeeaaase can we go now?

Asker laughed at Hana and Chaska scuffling on the floor. Even he knew better than to fight right now. Besides, they could wrestle once they got outside! Which Asker fully intended to do. He was practically shaking with anticipation. If they waited any longer, the cub was sure he would explode!
Asker smirked at Chaska as his sister pushed the other cub off and ran up to their father. "You got beat by a giiiiiirl." He sneered quietly. Honestly. Hadn't Chaska learned anything about fighting? Asker would just have to show him first hand. "Wait till we get outside, and we'll trounce her real good!" He whispered, planning his surprise attack. Hana wouldn't even know what hit her!
Returning his attention back to their parents, Asker started bouncing up and down. The past few minutes had felt like hours. Surely it wasn't still morning? It had to be close to night now, the cub thought in horror. If they didn't leave the den soon, they would have to wait until tomorrow. "If we don't go outside now, it'll be daaaark." The blue cub whined anxiously.

Fireheart watched with amusement as her cubs tumbled around on the floor of their cave. She knew they were all eager to go and, in all honesty, she was as well. Showing them their pride was something she had been dreaming about for the past few weeks and now it was finally here.

"Yes, we can go," she said as she glanced up at Vodnitvar, a fond smile on her face. "I shall lead. You cubs are not to get in front of me. Your father will follow, and you are not to lag behind him." She expected her cubs to obey her and, with a flick of her tail, she started off. It didn't take long to make her way away from their home, and as she led them to the beach, she'd glance over her shoulder from time to time.

"Come now, keep up!" she said, tail swaying back and forth. "The ocean is an exciting place that you will want to see."

Chaska rolled away before Hana could spill his guts everywhere. He liked to keep his breakfast inside his tummy, thank you. The scuff on the back of his neck plucked up at Asker's jabs. He hissed "I did not!" For good measure, he glared holes in the back of her head before spreading his cheeks wide by his paws. His tongue jutted out while he silently heckled his oldest sister. At least the other one was nicer.

His eye pivoted in Asker direction. Oh, what now? He dropped his paws and grinned while whispering "Yeah, lets get her!" No need to wait, he stalked forward, but halted when his mother spoke. Pssssh, later then. Now it was time to go outside. Finally! He rushed up to her side determined to be one of the first ones out. Aw, yeah! The ocean!
PostPosted: Sat Feb 09, 2013 5:29 pm

Asker scowled in disappointed as Chaska managed to get out first. That wasn't fair! Asker had wanted to be the first one out. Oh well he would just have to get his revenge later on. Maybe he could get Chaska when they were sneaking up on Hana..and...and...
Wow. It was all so bright and beautiful. The ocean sparkled with sunlight, waves splashing up onto the shore. The sand was warm under his paws. It was strange to walk on compared to the den. The grains kept shifting around under his paws. The cub stumbled a little bit, tripping over his paws as they tried to find purchase. When the cub finally found his footing, he took a minute to look around. It was so much bigger out here than he could have imagined. All the colours astounded him. There were so many things to investigate and sniff. But the water...the water seemed so enticing. "Mama, Papa, can we go in the water?" Asker questioned, tracking the waves as they surfed up and down the shore.

Nicolae didn't have to voice his concerns as his other siblings did so quite well themselves. He smiled, shook his head, but decided to resign himself to a silent, polite look to his parents instead. When their mother padded from the cave he stood himself up and fell into her pawprints.

The first few steps outside were nothing special but soon enough the sun glanced across his back and over his shoulders, warm and gentle. He paused and brought a paw up over his forehead, blocking the sunlight from his eyes. A gull flew over, sweeping low to the beach. He took a deep breath and dropped his eyes to take the sight in. It hadn't changed too much... not yet. But regardless, the excitement was overwhealming.

Picking up his paws, he trotted closer to his father and bumped a shoulder against his hind leg. "Can we see the big water?"
PostPosted: Sat Feb 09, 2013 7:06 pm

Hana's ear twitched at the sound of her brother's whispering behind her. She couldn't hear their words, but she didn't care; what Mother was saying was much more interesting. As Mother finished speaking and stalked out of the den - with a swish of her tail that clearly said "I mean business" - Hana watched her siblings scuffle to be the first out of the den and snorted with amusement.

Rising to her paws but staying with her father, she silently judged her immature siblings and their petty squabble. Hana had no interest in being first out of the den; it's not like the world wouldn't be there anymore because too many people had seen it. Her main desire was to experience the wonder with her father. While she loved both parents dearly, and was very close to her siblings - most of the time - she would always be a daddy's girl. As they started to move out, Hana trotted bravely next to her father. She was far enough away that she wouldn't trip him, but close enough that her pelt brushed his leg as they walked.

The first thing Hana noticed was that she was blind. The sun was so bright out here that it took a few several heartbeats of blinking through squinted eyes and slipping on a ground that suddenly melted away from her weight before she could see anything more than white. The second thing she noticed was a number of lions she had never seen before, all staring at her and her siblings as if they were babies. Indignant, she puffed her chest out and tried to look intimidating. But, as Asker asked if they could go in the water and she turned to regard the water in question, her look turned into one of incredulous awe.

The glittering, shifting expanse that Mother and Father called the "ocean" grabbed her attention and held it in a vice. She felt her jaw drop and her eyes widen. She glanced up at her father briefly to see him smiling down at her before returning her gaze to the giant mass of water that seemed to never end.

Vodnitvar stood at attention, fully prepared to follow his mate's orders, though he already knew them he felt it important to show his children how to react to authority; and Ugomvi was definitely authority. Keeping his focus, unblinking, he stared at her, his posture straight and tall. He offered one sharp but full nod as she explained the details to the cubs.

It was finally time to go out.

"Alright you heard the lady, lets go." He stood back waiting patiently for all of the cubs to file out of the den at Ugomvi's pace, but wasn't at all surprised when a certain someone stayed behind. Looking down at his daughter, his heart filled with warmth, and he bent to nuzzle his cheek against hers fo a brief moment.

"You ready for this?" He winked playfully at her just as the two finally began to move from then den.

He watched from a slight distance as most of his cubs took in the scenery around them. It didn't at all surprise him that the sun had caught them all off guard. After weeks of being trapped in the den - his eyes were a little weak as well. But he had been in the sunlight before, so it was a quick adjustment. Around him he noted the many lions who had come to witness the introduction of their cubs, his pride swelled even larger.

A small bump caught him off guard, and he snapped his attention away from the crowd and back down to his feet. There stood Nicolae in all his curiosity.

Big.Water.

The words sent a cringe down Voddy's back as he attempted to wrestle with himself over the answer. The water was dangerous - but his cubs had to learn to be strong. He was also a decent swimmer, and with a glance around the pride he took note of a few more.

"I'm OK with it if Mom is. But we have to ask her first." He whispered the words down to his youngest son before looking back up and calling to his mate.

"The cubs want to experiment with the water, what do you say?" He knew she would likely have the same inner turmoil as him, especially with her maternal instinct. But he had some fighting spirit left in him, perhaps he could use it to give the cubs some fun.

Vanellope had of course listened to everything her Mother had said, though she put none of the formalities into it that the other cubs did. She figured if she had to look different from everyone else - why couldn't she be different from everyone else? Instead she'd spent her Mother's lecture pawing at her tail, and teething on her paws. Besides, rules were boring!

FINALLY it was time to go outside! Vanellope jumped to attention rather quickly, and rushed to the head of the pack. Only to be pushed back by her more brute-ish siblings. she frowned slightly, but then noticed Nicolae walking slightly behind the others. Hey Nicolae, i'm going to walk with you. You don't mind do you? Nah! Didn't think so!" With a smile from ear to ear she followed by at his pace, careful to stay within the borders strictly set by her Mother. But as soon as the sun wore from her eyes and she noticed the many lions standing around her, all was lost.

There were lions! EVERYWHERE! All different shapes and sizes, colors and ages! Some were even dressed a little funny! Her mouth hung open as she took in the surroundings, not so much worried about the water or her brother as he slipped from her side. She wanted to meet these other lions. Especially the cubs!

"Forget the water, I wanna meet everyone! When can we do that? Isn't that why we're out here anyways?" She didn't chase after her brother, but did interrupt her Father's statement to Fireheart. Upon realizing just how much trouble she could be in, her ears drooped and she backed away a little in shame. That one was definitely a no-no. No one interrupted Dad, not even Mom. And it went the same way from the other perspective, it was just that Dad took it a bit more serious.
