The Infirmary was a place that Melvin regularly visited and was a familiar face. Ever since doing basic duties here as a trainee, he punched in enough hours for some doctors and techs to know who he was by actual name (which was sorta a big deal for him), and to be asked for help other than the most basic minor tasks. Sometimes when being in the labs was too much, he came here, and usually showed up to learn as much as he could about healing in regards to hunters. Even the sight of blood was making him less and less sick these past few months.

What he came to see was about another hunter who had been injured by Rep, and after checking on the the man, Deryk, who was now in a coma, he went on various other duties. He was currently moving containers on a rolling cart so he could feel the syringes and other equipment that needed to be refreshed each day in various rooms.

Rep didn't like the infirmary. At all. His time spent there the last few weeks had been the most miserable time he'd spent in his life. He hadn't even been ill, simply watching over Harrison while he lay, never moving on the bed. It had been harrowing and soul destroying. He hadn't expected to be back so ******** soon, nor in such dire circumstance. A sun hunter in the domain of moon and life tended to get treated like a bit of an idiot, and a lot of his actions bore this out. He was on bed pan duty which mostly meant scrubbing various horrible things out, cleaning up messes and generally dealing with the kind of bodily fluids he never wanted to think about.

He'd managed to break a few things by accident too, simply by sheer inability to control his own strength. He'd been told they'd come off his wages. He stood in an apron someone had fished out for him, he doubted it was standard issue, it had ******** magnolias on it. And was wearing a pair of rubber gloves while scrubbing determinedly at a silver pan with a brillo pad while trying very hard not to look too hard at what he was dealing with.

Every now and then he had to look away and take several deep breaths to suppress his urge to gag. He did not like cleaning. At all. He was fine to live mired in filth, that didn't bother him, it was a dirt based coexistence. Being forced to evict said dirt was a whole other matter.

At home at and ease, the Infirmary was a place he could just be occupied and hopefully get tired enough to sleep a bit more easily. It was a zen place despite all the chaos and commotion that could bust through the doors at any moment. Fortunately for him, he wasn't a doctor, but once in a great while a nurse would yell at him to rush over and grab more of these supplies when something urgent was being handled. This was not that time thankfully.

Having stocked a few rooms, he went to grab boxes of various types of gauze and gloves from a side room, stepping in and seeing one of the most bizarre sights he had ever seen - in competition with a tech who was ushered with with growing, green mushrooms sprouting from his arm. It was, from what he could tell, Rep in what could only be compared to 50s housewife attire minus the heels and handkerchief hair tie.

Staring, since his brain already felt like it was fizzling out from being able to make coherent thoughts these days, he reached up and rubbed his eyes from under his glasses. Maybe he could ask to lay down on a bed in one of the empty rooms for a few minutes.

Rep didn't notice anyone else was in the room with him at first, he was in a mental place beyond mockery, and his paranoia had fizzled out after he realised most of the people in the infirmary had actual jobs to do. Once they got their meathead jokes out of their system they'd left him to his task and occasionally topped up his workload.

He was absolutely miserable, dreaming of the gym and the training field as he tried not to think of what horrendous halloween diseases he could catch from this awfulness, and determinedly trying not to touch anything. It was fine to gut and skin animals and pick all the awful things off a hide that showed up, but when it came to people, actual ill people, he was in a land of disgust.

It was only when Melvin didn't move that Rep's brain drew it to his attention and he glanced round, ready to snap and ask if the other person wanted a ******** photograph. When it dawned on him who it was, the colour - what little there was of it - drained out of his features.

For a few horrible moments he relived the other Melvin's last moments.

He didn't even notice he'd stopped scrubbing.

Rep wasn't the only one thinking about that, and he felt a horrible twisting in his gut and a siezing tension in his shoulders that he was around someone dangerous. It reminded him of when he first met Rep, a trainee who had his a** kicked by someone who was too cocky for his own good and weilding a massive weapon. Did Rep have more control then to not harm him or had he just been lucky during that first spare?

Seeing him staring back at him, clearly startled, he tried to determine among the tired whirl of emotions what he felt right now, and his brain just threw a dart at the whirlwind before it pegged down anger.

He had seen Derryk just like many others who were hurt, and now Rep was here. He had no place being here in what little sanctuary Melvin had, and he felt the usual warm feelings of friendship he had grow cold and sharp.

Moving to the right where the shelves were kept, he started to pick out boxes of various types of gloves off the shelves. "What are you doing here?" He said, his words sharp and accusing. "You look like a idiot in that."
PostPosted: Mon Feb 04, 2013 3:10 pm

Rep had no idea what to say, how you even said sorry for something the other person might not even remember. As far as he was aware, only the people who'd been there remembered anything about what happened in that other world. But it didn't change the chill of anxiety at the way Melvin also seemed to freeze. The sharp edge to his words were like a splash of cold water that knocked him out of his daze. He blinked and looked at the gloves and then the apron.

"Ehh. I didn't ask to wear this. It's what they gave me, you can thank your ******** life chums if it's no fashionable." his aggression was defensive more than anything else, and everything about his body language was deferential and submissive. "I'm here because I'm on ******** bedpan duty because of a training accident."

He pulled off the boxes and set them on the cart, moving down to pick another set and paused when he heard his division insulted. "Those <********> life chums do a lot more work here than you do. You should show them some respect after all the messes they clean up for you." He grabbed a few more boxes and set them back down on the cart. "I'm surprised they didn't dress you up in heels to boot for the trouble you cause."

Another box was set on the cart. "Oh right. Accident. I wonder how long you can keep calling incidents like this by that excuse?" He didn't look at Rep as he continued to pick out another box and then moved down to tongue depressors. This time his blue eyes looked at the Sun. "I already checked up on Derryk. I guess I should be skipping for joy that he's in one piece, but I wouldn't give you the credit of actual control on this one." He went to grab some more tongue depressors.

"Bedpan duty...." He shook his head. "Another slap on the wrist."
PostPosted: Mon Feb 04, 2013 3:29 pm

Rep bristled at Melvin's tone. Normally he'd have been able to ignore it, but part of him remembered distantly the title Underboss, the rank, the respect. The other Melvin would never give him this kind of attitude. His posture changed, standing taller, more defiant. "Oh aye you'd like that eh? ******** heels. Your ******** division does nothing but troll the s**t out of people and make my life pretty miserable. So I'm no going to be nicey nicey to them."

At the comment on accidents, there was a crunch as the pan he was holding buckled under the clench of his hands in anger, and he dropped it as if it had burned him, eyes wide. Whatever he'd been going to say in retort to Melvin died on his lips and he hurriedly tried to bend the edge back into shape in minor distress. "A..aye well. Whatever. Think what you want."

"Oh right. Life really makes YOUR life miserable after all the people you send to us all the time that we have to patch up and hope they pull through. You have to remember that Life fixed Rin from bleeding out and then the care after and also took care of Harrison while he was unconscious. Oh, yeah, I heard he was discharged. We sure made your life miserable taking care of him and ensuring he was taken care of no thanks to you. Then there are people like Derryk we watch over and make sure all their vital organs don't just shut down while they recover. Not everyone is fixed by Fear shields and hunter abilities. Heaven forbid you have to clean a bed pan once in your damn life and help the division who constantly deals with the backlash of you not controlling yourself like you said you would countless times over."

He filled the container with tongue depressors and put them back on the cart. "I don't think you've ever clocked in any time here and actually seen how much work it takes to help people. I can only imagine how much trouble you cause Moons too. Harrison must be exhausted - and after just leaving the Infirmary. But you're the one saying your in misery while the rest of us have to work and keep people alive. Don't thank any of those doctors and nurses who endlessly treat all of the patients you create. They don't matter. They just spend all their time trolling people."
PostPosted: Mon Feb 04, 2013 3:51 pm

Rep frowned at the pan and set it aside, a little more dented than it had been. "I didn't say some of them don't actually do their ******** job. I've had my ******** life saved by the people here." when he didn't have a weapon, no less. "But it doesn't change the fact they are ******** trolls and wind me up constantly. So you don't need to give me a ******** lecture."

He snorted. "Aye us suns man, all we do is train all day till we either collapse from exhaustion or can't do any more. We have it so ******** easy, we don't save lives or anything, we just have to throw our own on the ******** roulette table and hope for the best that our number doesn't come up. Forgive me for my ******** ignorance, I'm sure you have such a hard time weighing minipets and ******** stitching up pansies."

Another pan got scrubbed with resentment, the comment about Harrison stung. He hadn't wanted to make him do any work so soon. He couldn't even snap back at Melvin about that one, the guilt ran deep already and he was just voicing worries Rep had already had. It was enough that it made him properly uncomfortable.

"Don't you have someone else to be bitching at?"
he snapped.

"Oh no. I don't need to b***h at anyone right now other than you and you're in my territory and I'm working." He was doing the duties he did several times a week, and the fact Rep wanted him gone just made him want to stay to spite him. Usually he didn't feel this petty to act this way, but his whirlwind mind had pegged that one emotion, and now he was holding on to it.

"I'm not insulting Suns. I just want you to not forget the importance of the Lifers you are insulting here right in the Infirmary and right before me. I know Suns work hard and put their lives on the line. I work here constantly Rep, and I've seen your comrades come in on stretchers. They make sacrifices, just like Jordan, Jerry, and the rest. But how many Suns can you say put as many people in the Infirmary as you do? Just compare Suns here. How many of your comrades do as much damage as you?"

He started to pick out some empty bio-hazard containers and then perked. "Stop your scrubbing and take off the gloves. You're going to help me stock the rooms." It was an order.
PostPosted: Mon Feb 04, 2013 4:21 pm

Rep listened to Melvin but seemed to have stopped reacting, his expression freezing into a very blank stare. He wasn't sure how to react, still stung from the comment about making Harrison work so soon after his recovery and didn't trust himself to be civil.

"Jerry does more damage than me." But not to people. That was the key factor wasn't it?

He inhaled sharply through his nose at the order, every single authority resenting part of him bristling at being pushed around by someone who didn't normally outrank him. But the gloves were whipped off one at a time and thrown onto the sink.

Moving to stand expectantly next to him, he said nothing at all.

"Jerry hasn't come close to killing people from what I hear. I haven't stood beside his victims over and over and over again. Otto, Ro, Rin, Derryk. Just to name some." He gestured to the shelves. "Start grabbing those towels there."

He went to the side and found a cart before pulling it next to Rep. "After you have 2 piles, grabs sheets. Both fitted, flat, and the pillowcases."

Still collecting supplies, he shook his head at another thought. "And yet you keep saying it was an accident. Have you don't anything to control that power of yours? Anything since you cut off Rin's arm? I haven't heard of you actually making any sort of attempt."
PostPosted: Mon Feb 04, 2013 4:44 pm

Rep didn't like hearing the truth, it bothered him a lot, it was true wether he liked it or not that he seemed to injure the most people with stupid mistakes out of all of the suns. Maybe when he'd first come to Deus he might have taken that with pride, a badge of honour, these days it was sloppy, stupid childish errors he should have grown out of.

He did as he was instructed by Melvin - most of it anyway - he wasn't sure what fitted or flat sheets were or what the differences were. So he did his best to guess.

"No that it's any of your ******** business." he growled. "But aye actually I have. I spoke to my ******** division leader about it, and he helped me out. I practiced with Ace how to control it, figuring out how strong it was, crunching the numbers and s**t. It basically concluded my charge was too ******** strong and I had to focus it down or not use it against weaker people. I was losing to Deryk, he was fighting ******** great, so I figured he could handle it. It was a lucky hit and he couldn't, end of."

He chucked the pillowcases on the pile. "Now I'm banned from sparring with weapons at all. But I deserved it, it was a bad ******** call. I did my research, I tried to fix it and I ******** up, what do you want me to ******** do? I'm here doing you guys busy work aren't I?"

Melvin had stopped stocking halfway through Rep talking, just staring at the wall behind the shelving, one gloved hand set on the shelf and holding it there. Rep had made an effort - more than he expected, but he still tested out his charge on someone and they were unconscious again. That charge was a danger. Rep could barely control his anger and had destroyed a bed pan in a second. If he really lost it, someone would die.

"Do you think people feel safe around you?" He didn't look at the Sun.

"Do you think about how Harrison probably feels sick when he gets a call from you and has to try and work desperately hard for someone to live, rushing them here, when you are there as the cause? Do you think your friends feel safe in your company when you could hurt them at any moment? The way you are going at this - it won't be a probation period that will keep you from sparring. No one will want to be around you."

...beware

"It's hard to look up to someone who destroys what he aims to protect."

He looked at him and a hard lump like a rock stuck in his throat. "How long will it be until you wind up killing me one day?"
