The day was nearly over by the time Niabi even thought that it might be smart to head back in. it was nearing fall, the chill being what brought her out of her herb finding daze. "Oh my... " She pulled the basket full of herbs she had collected over her back, the straps fitting comfortably to her shoulders, her green eye's were wide with worry as she fought the shiver from a breeze and looked for the path she had taken. "I knew I shouldn't have strayed so far from my usual places...Oh spirits!" she whimpered a bit. The girl was no more then 18, though many her age were married and had children she had found a more fulfilling roll in aiding her father, the shaman in there small village. hence why she was out herb hunting.

She continued forward through the brush as the suns last rays began to drain from the sky, her eye's looking up in hopes of seeing firelight and finding none. She was thoroughly lost, though she fought the fear as another shiver racked her thin frame. She wrapped her arms around her torso and leaned up against a tree with a sigh. "What am I going to do? Father will be so angry if I'm not home..."

Bright green eyes shone with curiosity as hind legs lifted a high torso up into the trees where sweet apples scent drew him ever closer. "Almost.... ALMO SSOHHHTGOTTCHUUU" Amayo chanted merrily with a mouth full of apple, his front legs hitting the earth hard though he hardly noticed as he chomped away at the sweet treat. "Oh so good.... so so good! how I've missed fall apples!" this had been the first tree the stallion had come across since the previous year, and one could say he was excited as he went up for his fourth attempted snack.

Just as he was about to grasp one with his teeth, the sweet fragrance nearly driving him mad. A voice hit his sensitive ears, they perked at high alert causing his focus to stray from the apples completely as he strained to hear what and who had spoken. Quietly he let his hooves hit the dirt, trying not to make any sounds himself as he listened to the light airy voice not far from him. "Who could that be? hmm..."

Ever curious the young stallion unconsciously began wondering in the noises direction, his tail swishing like an excited dogs as his ears twitched at every sound. He couldn't help but blink several times when he finally saw the small human in front of him, it was dark enough he was sure she couldn't see him yet, and so he watched her for a moment, trying to figure out why a female two legger would be out after dark so far from a village. He didn't know much of the two leggers, but what he did know was that he hardly ever saw there females. not outside a village... without protection... A howl broke out in the distance causing Amayo to start, though it caused an even more panicked expression from the girl. He felt sorry for her suddenly, the fear scent was beginning to poor off of her in waves, and slowly, very slowly he took steps into the opening hoping to calm her with his presence. let her know she wasn't alone.

Niabi was afraid now, usually the sounds of nature calmed her. She'd always loved the sound of the night owls, even the howls of the wolves, but in all those times she hadn't been alone. And if she had, she'd usually have her bow and arrows, both of witch she left back at the village this day.
She was alone, and completely unprepared to handle a night in the wilds, these thoughts continued to swirl through her mind as she began to lean against the tree as a form of protection, afraid to move for fear of attracting anything that would eat a young Indian woman.

When a howl that sounded closer hit her ears she let out a small squeak, nothing to loud to her own ears but to that of the animals it would have been loud enough. Then before she could do more then take one deep breath something heavy snapped a twig infront of her. She whimpered and dropped to her rear, tucking her knees to her chest in an attempt to make herself as small as possible.

A few minutes passed and she got over this irrational fear, or so she kept telling herself as slowly she lifted her eye's up, only to come face to face with a large pink furred muzzle and a pair of bright green eyes. "EEP!" She squeaked and attempted to back further into the tree.

The humans voice was loud. his ears went back and tucked into his mane as he snorted and shook his snout at her. "No need to be so noisy girl..." He said softly, his voice a rich yet soft timber, his green eye's bright with questions as he sniffed at her fur-less skin. Her scent was pleasant, it smelt of spring sun, herbs, and the fire smell that any other human he'd crossed paths with seemed to share. But almost masking all of that was an enormous amount of fear scent that sent him into protective overdrive.

He looked up for a moment, trying to gauge where the nearest village might be. his senses were telling him they were some distance in the direction behind the young female, he waited for another breeze to draft by him to confirm this before his eye's caught her shivering. "Are you cold?" He asked politely. his eye's full of compassion, and his stance relaxed as his tail wagged gently, his ears were perked in the direction the howls had come from, making sure nothing truly dangerous was in the area of this frightened creature. "Well are you?" He asked a bit impatient as another shiver rocked through her.

Niabi continued to watch the Soquili, now that she recognized him for what he was, her fear began to lessen. Enough that she was feeling the nights chill even more. Her hands rubbed against her sides as she fought another shiver, her green eye's watched his the best she could in the dark, taking note of his posture and movements. She heard a noise, something she had been told once was to be recognized as the soquili language by her father, it was a mixture of neighing, snorting, and other sounds. But she had no idea what he was saying. When his ears went back and his head shook she realized he was becoming impatient that she hadn't responded, she swallowed before shaking her head softly. "I... I don't understand you... I'm so sorry, but I don't know what your trying to tell me?" her voice was weak she attempted to clear it as he brought his nose close to her again. Bravely she reached out a shaking hand and placed it on his snout. "I'm Niabi... I wish I knew what your name was Stallion... Why did you come here? Did you hear me talking to myself?" She let out a weak laugh at this as he allowed her to gently stroke his fur, his ears were perked in her direction as he seemed to snort a laugh with her. "I'm so lost... do you think you could help me? "

Amayo snorted as he listened to the girl speak. "Well that makes since. go figure the first human I come across wouldn't be able to understand me...or I them." Her fingers were soft on his snout, it was something he'd never felt before and it was comforting, even though he knew she was the one who needed comfort. When she began speaking he just sighed with a soft laugh. "Of course I have no idea what your saying, but your still afraid, and your alone...-" He nodded his head to himself. "Be that what it may, I'll help you girl. I wouldn't leave you to those wolves.... or that cougar... in the tree down that way..." he laughed to himself again before brushing his muzzle up against her flat face, giving her the equine equivalent of a hug before pulling back just enough to raise his head. "Well then... your cold, we need to get moving... Why would you have traveled so far from your herd?" He watched her, waiting for her to move.

With a snort he stomped a hoof and nodded his head, trying to get her to understand as he took a few small strides in the direction he smelt the fire scent. She didn't budge, Just shrank up against the tree again like he was going to leave her. He rolled his green eye's. "Girl. come on... where wasting star light..." he snorted as he gently turned his neck and yanked on her clothing in an attempt to get her moving.

What might have been gentle tugging to the stallion, was full blown yanking to the small woman. Luckily for Niabi, she had picked up on his idea a second before he pulled her and was able to keep her footing as she placed a hand on his high shoulder blades, taking note for the first time that his fur was multi-colored, and that his tail, was literally a tail, like a dogs... it's wagging increased when she began following beside him, trying her best not to trip on tree roots and get snagged on bushes. It was rough going, but every few steps the large Soquili would turn back his big head and make sure even though she knew he had to feel her hand on his fur, that she was keeping up.

Hours passed this way, his impatient scuffs every so often gave her a pretty good idea how he felt about there pace, and she tried to pick it up. In her opinion they were making good distance, until she tripped over a particularly high tree root and twisted her ankle. "AH! Spirits! That hurts!!!!" She cried out as she fell to her side, bruising her hip as she landed on another large root. Tears sprung to her eye's instantly, and she grit her teeth. She hissed taking deep breaths before she dared to look into what she thought would be a condescending gaze. Instead she saw startled worry, and raw concern. Emotions that she wasn't familiar with seeing on a creature not human's face. and it made the tears fall even more as she struggled and failed to stand. Afraid that he might lose all patience and leave her now. "Oh Stallion I don't know what to do... I can't walk..." she finally whimpered out as his snout came against her hurt ankle where she felt his sniffs and winced against the throbbing pain.

His concern only grew when her tears fell as he stood over her prone form. They had been making time, he wouldn't say good time, but they were moving up until she stumbled over that root. He wondered how she hadn't seen it, but never accounted her sight not being as good as his own. He snorted angerly at the offending piece of wood that caused her, someone he now considered under his protection pain. Kicking it with his hind hoof, he listened satisfied at the resounding crack as it split in two. He heard her gasp and turned back to her surprised gaze. "What...? it hurt you..." Was all he said before she started trying to stand again. "Now don't do that!" He whinnied with worry as she fell to her knees again after taking one step. He was irritated, and worried, He wasn't sure what to do himself for a good while as his front hoof began digging a hole while his nose was assaulted by the salty scent of her tears. He had never experienced something like this, he had never tried to rescue a human, let alone deal with one who had hurt themselves, On his watch of all times. His ears went back in shame as he constantly tried to sniff at her injuries, at her face, at her arms, anything to show his support.

Her tears finally subsided after a while into pained gasps, and he watched as she pulled the basket from her back slowly, after several minutes he became fascinated as she placed leaves she had dug from the container, chewed and crushed with her fingers onto her ankle. He lowered his snout to get a whiff before yanking his head up quickly and sneezing from the strong herb scent. Her laughter had him laughing in a matter of seconds as well, easing his spirit a bit and healing his wounded pride at allowing her to become hurt.

After a long while of them sitting there he noticed her beginning to nod off, her shivers becoming worse as the night wore on had his ears pinned back. He had to do something to warm her up... but what? his hoof scrapped the dirt again in his agitation as he listened to her mumbling with a sort of gentle adoration, before he finally decided that his own body heat might be the only thing he could do. Slowly he lowered himself to the ground, doing his best not to jostle her though having not tried to lay down in a good while it took him a moment. His motions startled her enough that she was able to slide closer to his belly once he was finally on the ground beside her. "There girl. I'll keep you warm this night..." he whispered as he slid his fluffy tail to cover her the best he could. he remained alert until the first light before finally drifting off himself, knowing that they would be safe til later...

Morning found the odd sleeping pair and passed with relative no notice, soon afternoon was coming to an end as well before Niabi raised tired puffy from tears green eyes. She was warm, though there was obvious dusting of snow on the ground around her. Stretching with a yawn finally brought her back to the reality of her situation as she felt the shifting of fur behind her back. momentarily startled she turned a confused gaze to meet the nearly glowing green eye's of the stallion as he watched her patiently. "You stayed the whole night with me?...." She mumbled in amazement before finally taking in his large frame, his multi-colored fur catching every ray of light like he was covered in glitter. though the mop of black hair on his head gave her more of an amused understanding of his nature then his coloring. "You know... you might see better if you got that hair out of your eyes." She smiled and gently fingered the long bangs away from the green orb closest to her. He snorted but allowed it and her smile widened.

"I don't know friend... I don't think I can.." She whimpered as a bit later found them both standing, her leaning heavy on him though he didn't seem to mind. They had only made a few steps everyone reminding them both painfully at the girls bad luck last night. She could tell he was becoming a bit impatient and sighed. "This isn't working...-" He gave her a pointed look and she laughed weakly. "Don't give me that! I'm trying you know!... what if... do you think you might be able to carry me?"

He was frustrated that this language block existed, his gaze he thought portrayed this fact nicely. But it just seemed to egg her on, though he didn't mind the sound of her voice at all. He sighed and flicked his tail while bending his muzzle towards her cheek, a sign of encouragement. " I know you can do this girl. I'll help you how ever I can..." He said softly, his ears flicking every which way as a stray breeze brought him a stronger whiff of the human village scent. They had gotten much closer then they originally were but it was still to far of a distance for him to trust leaving her to try and get some of her own kind back to her aid. So here they stood.

He was pondering on what to do, his gaze on her injured limb that even he could tell was swollen when he felt pressure on the middle of his back. His ears flicked as he turned curious eyes back to the girl's face. She was looking at him hopefully, half her body leaning over his. It didn't take a genius to figure out what she was hinting too. At first it sent a thrill of worry through him that made him take a few uneasy steps. But that nearly had her falling to the ground again and he quickly stopped and leaned his head back to her so she could lean against him. "Woman... I'm not too sure about this idea of yours..." He said with a worried voice, knowing full well she wouldn't understand him but hoping his eye's portrayed his fears, he was not a tamed village Soquili, he was very much wild and part of him felt like allowing her onto his back was betraying his freedoms. The other part, the rational side, realized how silly that feeling was and so he remained put when she attempted to pull herself onto him again.

She sighed in relief when her friendly rainbow stallion didn't flinch away from her the second time she attempted to climb atop him. He was a large broad spirit horse, and she was a very slight woman. The sensation was uneasy at first as she had never attempted anything like this, though she had seen, and heard many stories of others having gained enough trust to ride such a beast.

She could tell he was nervous as he just remained standing there, his tail hardly moving while his ears were pinned back in her direction, not fully flat but enough that she knew he was uncomfortable. "I'm sorry friend, I know this isn't the best idea... but I do not know what else to do. I cannot walk, and I know now that you will not leave me... Please... will you take me back home?" She said this at the same time that he took his first timid step forward, her hands fisted tightly in his mane and he hesitated. She blinked confused that he had stopped, but realized how tight she was holding to him a moment later and relaxed. This seemed to be what he was waiting for, she gasped as he began with slow strides. amazed that she was really on the back of a wild Soquili, her heart felt like it was soaring even though they were just walking by his standards. It was the most incredible feeling in the world.

He was shocked at how light she felt on his back, and yet how tense one could hold themselves as he felt every muscle she had pressed against him. At first it froze him, too afraid to hurt her by moving so much as another hoof. But she seemed to understand his hesitation and let up a moment later, her relaxation was like the lights had just turned on and he started a slow walk forward. It was a weird sensation, having another ride on your back. He had carried a bird a few times that thought of resting on him, but never a two legger.

Slowly his confidence in her staying put had him moving at a steady trot, nothing to jostle her injuries to much but enough that he felt they were finally making good time. Every heart beat that passed he felt her begin to relax more, and with this relaxation he felt like he could show her what it was like to really move. though he'd slow the moment he felt her tense in pain.
It was an incredible feeling, two hearts nearly beating as one as he finally picked it up to a full canter. He could tell by scent alone how excited this made her as the wind and world rushed by them, he moved as fast as he could deciding that if this would be the only human he ever allowed on his back, that he would treat her to real speed.

She let out a joyous noise, and he let out a whinny of agreement as the crested a small hill that he knew would reveal the village once over. He let a final burst of speed fill him as he took a gentle leap over that hill, feeling for a moment to fly himself before his hooves hit the ground. it wasn't a graceful landing by any means, but for a clumsy stallion it was close. From there he slowed to a high prance, still mindful of her injured ankle as he made his way right up into the center of the village.

His senses were on high as he took in everything around him. there were other Soquili around, but that didn't stop them and others from glancing there way, it wasn't often he was sure, that a wild unfamiliar stallion just walked right up to them let alone one with another human on his back. This made him snicker gently to himself as he moved as close as he felt comfortable to a teepee, though he had felt a moment of pride as he walked in, he was quickly becoming nervous of all the stares he was getting, not to mention he felt slightly closed in with all the teepees around them.

Never in her life had Niabi felt the way she did this moment. It was like her friends always gushed about when they mentioned a new crush, or being in love. This, was love. Her heart raced with the pace of his hooves, her body relaxing against his strong furred back as if this was the most natural thing in the world, and for a moment it was just her, and this incredible, kind stallion. Her voice rang out with a cry of joy, a traditional Indian vocal that she had heard others make. And when her friend let out a similar happy noise her heart skipped a beat. This was what it meant to feel free, this was what it felt to love. suddenly she understood these concepts like never before and as his hooves touched down from that flying leap, sliding ever so slightly in the grass, and the village came into view. She realized that though she loved her people, and her land. That was not home, Home was in the wilds moving side by side nature. And she wanted nothing more then to run back over that hill with her stallion and never return.

But though he shared her feelings of freedom and love for running, he didn't hear her heart break as he led her through that village, her friends and family looking surprised and even a bit worried as they spotted her small figure on such a large Soquili. Slowly her mind came back to reality, her heart rate dropped, and she realized that they were stopped by her cousins teepee. Tears sprung to her eye's as she watched his ears go back and his gaze shift uneasily. This was a wild Soquili, he was not meant to stand and live in a village of humans. He was meant to run, to travel over the countryside and to be free.

Tears slipped down her cheeks as she slowly slid off his back, mindful of her injuries as she leaned against him for that extra support, he finally seemed to realize her distress as his muzzle brushed against her cheek, a soft nicker reaching her ears. "I fine... I know that your worried here, Thank you my friend for saving me, and bring me-" She stumbled over those words as she wrapped her arms around his large head, tears running freely past her closed eyes, she felt him tense for a moment before he relaxed and even pressed his head against her harder. "Thank you for bringing me home. I will never forget you friend." She said between broken sighs, holding onto her feelings by just a thread.

His heart broke when he smelt her tears, and then saw them for himself. For such a short meeting, he felt that same pain at knowing that he had to say goodbye. when she wrapped her frame around his face he found it strange, and almost pulled back, but then realized that, like he had done for her before, she was giving him the human equivalent of a hug and so he leaned into it, his heart breaking as he felt the wetness of her tears against his forehead. He would miss this little human, strange as it seemed she had wormed her way into a small part of his heart.

A few minutes passed and her cries softened, it was with those gasps of air that he heard the footsteps of other two leggers moving closer, this made him even more nervous and he regrettably pulled back from his human as he had dubbed her, to look into the faces of those that he could scent were related to her. A man, much older then she broke from the crowed that had formed around them, his hair was pulled back and had feathers dangling all through it, he held a staff and carried himself like one of authority. He spoke something to the girl and Amayo watched her give him a weak smile. As the man grew close enough to touch a strong scent of herbs and the scent of close relation to his human hit his nose. "You must be her father... " He spoke gently, to his surprise the man nodded. He brushed that off as he turned his attention back to his girl, who was pulling fully away from him, to lean on the man.

The father placed his large hand on Amayo's shoulder, speaking words the stallion had no clue of. but the tone sounded reassuring and he eased against him. His bright green eye's braving one last look at his human girl. She was looking at him sadly, but had a smile on her face that lightened his heart and he gave a gentle nicker. "Take care my friend, We will meet again. I will be sure of that." He said softly before taking a few slightly clumsy steps back, his tail flicking nervously before he turned fully and took off back the way he came.

He heard shouting as he crested the hill and hesitated at the top, turning his eye's bright with his own unshead tears back onto the small village, there at the front of it, where he had just been. Stood his human, her father, and many other herd members. She yelled the same noise she had when on his back, those this one sounded much sadder. Regardless he understood her meaning and lifted himself onto his hind legs, giving a loud neigh in return as he kicked out his front hooves. "Good bye my friend! Until we meet again!"

And then the village left his sight as he raced back into the forest, on to his next adventure...

END
((Side note: Niabi's father is a shaman, I read somewhere in the rules some time ago that some could understand a little of the Soq tong. That would be what this last reference came from of him nodding to Amayo. If this is wrong I will be happy to change it! =) Thanks for reading!))
