Okay - that was an odd dream. Apparently running around as a... paladin? What on earth was a paladin, anyway?
He shook his head, usual smile a little lacking in the robust area. Dreams, for Lex, had always been of more palpable things - like drinking or playing rugby. Running around in some weird world sworn to some King...

A beat of confusion, and then realization. Ami, of course.
Pivoting on his heels, he put on a broader smile and a more welcoming look. "Oh, hey Ami!" He greeted with a little wave, catching sight of the new coat. Oooh, someone got promoted. "Or, should I start referring to you as ma'am again?"

"You never should've stopped," Ami contended. A tiny smirk slid across her face as she recalled the princely Lex. It was really too bad she'd only seen him once- Ami would've loved to make fun of his medieval speech. Of course, he wouldn't know about his speech, would he? It was no fun to tease a party when they knew nothing of the teasing.

She realized Lex hadn't said anything, and she'd been talking to her weapon. Talking to her weapon. She'd forgotten in half a year that she had to balance two conversations at once, and not ignore the real ones. She must've looked like ... well like a newbie.

For once, Ami and Junpei agreed on something. Though she was a more quiet type, even Ami wanted to show off every once in a while. "A-Are you busy? Can you come somewhere with me?"

"Oh, and why shouldn't I? You seem a lot more chipper today." An actual smile replaced his normal flirty one as he walked a little closer to the short blonde, taking notes of her new coat. Very stylish, even though it was military clothing. Then again, he'd somehow managed to get his coat to be a peacoat, so...

Ignoring that last bit, Lex did have to admit the Gryphon had a point. It wasn't every day that Ami the turtle asked for someone to join her in any kind of activity - he was usually the one to initiate anything (except for that cookie basket).
"A bit...distracted too." He smirked, realization having dawned on him. She'd once accused him of being that way - when he was first learning how to converse with both Regal and whoever was in front of him. "I'd guess...someone important came back?"

Lex chucked, shaking his head as he let her take the lead. It was good to see the girl act with intention and assertiveness for once.

The Gryphon fumed silently, wings ruffling in displeasure. He hated that name.
Lex, on the other hand, was smirking as they walked. He'd never expected Ami to actually want to fight him, and he was actually apprehensive about it. A spar with a full on Hunter...
It was a good thing he kept a roll of bandages, a needle and thread, and painkillers in his room.

Ami was somewhat worried. Six months of weaponless garnered quite a bit of room for error. Suppose she couldn't summon it properly? Suppose she was rusty, and she was clumsy with the staff? Worse yet- suppose she lost? There was embarrassment that Ami would NEVER be able to live down.
Still, the only way she could get back into the habit of using Junpei, was just that. To use him. Lex was a good friend- he'd only make fun of her for a little while, right?
She bit her lip. Best to just ... not lose. That was the only way to insure there would be no jokes at her expense.
With hands limply at her sides, she looked at Lex somewhat worriedly, but managed to say, "Okay. Shoot me."

Lex had to take multiple things into consideration once they got to the training field. Things like the fact that she was a full on Hunter now, and with that came a closer bond to her weapon - which meant more protection from it. She also hadn't held the weapon in combat for a while, but he was sure her muscles combined with her bond would help her adjust rather quickly. There was also the fact that, if Lex lost to the petite woman, Regal would never let him live it down.
...Well, she did want to be shot, apparently. He gulped as the moral dilemma was argued, finally deciding that he would comply with the girl's request. It wasn't like the Horsemen and the Halloween creatures would be considerate in battle.
In a flash, the pistol was summoned and being fired, the energy bullets aimed at Ami's shoulder as Lex sprang back and out of close contact range.

Ami winced as the bullet hit her, but noted that it bounced off of her. That was good. Her shield was functioning.
Now she had a few options. She could've run after Lex, given chase, but that wasn't particularly Ami's style.
"Lex what the ******** did you hit me with?!" she screamed, holding her shoulder close to her. "Do you have bandages or something ******** ******** ********>

He quirked a brow at Ami's sudden drop to the floor, entirely confused. Was her shield not working? Did her weapon suddenly decide to just not work again? Was she bleeding? Oh God, he'd shot a defenseless woman -

Ignoring the Gryphon for the millionth time that morning, the tall brunette was over Ami in a flash, trying to get her to move her hand from her shoulder.
"Crap, what happened? Did your shield blip or something? Weapon connection drop?" It made no sense, in retrospect, but he was honestly panicked. He was usually fine with shooting others on the island - but they had fully functional shields and weapons.

"Lex, you watched the bullet bounce," Ami chided.
In a flash her hair clip dissolved, instead reappearing as a glaive in her hand. In the same motion, she swung around, effectively bowling the man over, and digging the blade into his side in the same motion. When all was said and done, Ami, took a step back, still in a defensive position. She blinked, and then relaxed, setting the glaive down by her side, digging the bottom into the dirt. Her free hand casually scratched the side of her head a bit haughtily.
A more carefree, almost giddy smile was on her face as she pointed to the glaive. "Tadah," she said, if not with a hint of satirical grandeur. "Chivalrous even in this universe," she muttered afterwards.

Lex grunted, clutching his side and rolling onto his back. That wasn't a fun experience - he'd certainly not fall for anything like that again. "Well...you're just full of surprises." He grumbled, pushing himself off the ground.
All's fair in love and war, he supposed. A cocky grin came and faltered when she mentioned chivalrous. Oh dear Lord... how did she know about that?
He needed to distance himself from that glaive, somehow. He could try the hit and run tactics he'd done with Kat. Yeah, he'd do that. Ducking down, he began to run to the nearest hay bale to take cover behind, shooting over his shoulder as he ran.

Ami smirked as he ran away, reveling in the momentary power she held. It had been ages since anyone had run from her. She was always the one doing the running. She was the one slamming into hay bails. She was the one waking up with bruises and cuts because her shitty FEAR shield couldn't handle the damage the big kids were dealing out.
So it may have come off arrogant and cocky, but for once, Ami was just happy to be in control of her own fight.
"Oh! He does this ... one moment ..." she said, fiddling with the center of the staff, looking for the button or ... doohickey she'd messed with before. Finally she figured out it was less about pressing a button and more about letting the FEAR dissolve in her hands. Yeah. That would take some getting used to.
Her eyebrows furrowed with concentration as Lex fired a bulletspray around her- which went completely unnoticed. Finally the connection snapped, and Ami felt the glaive give. The "club" half of the staff thudded to the ground, as she forgot to support it when the two halves separated.
She lunged for it awkwardly, saying, "Er ... that wasn't supposed to happen." Righting herself, now with a deadly axe of sorts in one hand, and a blunt club in the other, she charged forward, smashing Lex's backside just as he dove to the hay bail. "Ah ... sorry that looked like it hurt ..." She'd face planted into the hay bails enough times to know that, yes, it did hurt.

Okay, so a club to the back really wasn't a pleasant experience - neither was his face in a bale of hay. He could already feel his shield draining, with Regal constantly giving him numbers.

Grunting, Lex turned around, very much backed into a corner. Why couldn't Regal be a massive sword, like in that...dream? Alternate universe? Whateve it had been - he wished very hard that the pistol was a giant sword.
But, fate was a funny thing.
He pulled the trigger of his weapon, hitting Ami in the same shoulder he'd shot before, and managed to slip away when she winced.
"Yeah, just a tad." He smirked, backpedaling still farther from the woman and the glaive.

Ami happily swung her axe and club interchangeably as Lex backed up. For each step he took back, it was a swing from her arm. The exchange was entertaining, and something she sorely missed. With Junpei, it was just an extension of her arm. She didn't have to think about aiming, about getting cover, distance. Just ... swinging. Strategical swinging.
"You're pretty fast," Ami said cheerfully, in between a miss and a second swing, the latter of which hit Lex in the side.
