 It was cold and breezy, not exactly a pleasant morning, but he had seen far worse. Though they hadn't been away from their warren for very long, Lark sure felt as though he looked the part of a hlessi. They'd traveled for so far for so long and fought hard before they could overtake the warren he and his comrades now call home.
He was a hefty rabbit, or at least he was before the move. He was a bit thinner now and did his best to appear meek and unassuming as he inched up the down's slope, milling about in the outskirts. His ears were against his back and eyes alert as he sought to avoid owsla detection, all while searching for a rabbit or two to solicit. Given the poor selection of food, they were bound to move further and further from the warren's proper in search of siflay that fill their bellies and wouldn't make them ill. It was like a dangerous waiting game and though he was eager to get the show on the road and get back to his new home, he would be out here for some time, living in fear of detection by owsla or elil.
He paused for a moment, ears swiveling as he listened to his surroundings, and briefly groomed a bit of moisture from his paws - caused by the layer of snow that caked the ground. He felt exposed, but oddly enough almost felt in his element given how long he had traveled with his rah in search of a place to settle down. Regardless, nothing beat the warmth and safety of a burrow.
Oh, where those rabbits in the distance? Well, better to get a start on things, eh?

((Please forgive me for the sudden change in RP style with these three. My brain has trouble not thinking of them as a set so I'll write this more in a book-like style.))The three siblings were hanging out at the edges of the warren mostly because it made Soot feel less cramped. Ashes was dozing quietly, Embers was rooting around under the grass for roots or anything possibly edible because he was so hungry and Soot was keeping watch. She knew that three rabbits were a better target for predators than just one. "Are we ever going to go back to the commotion in the warren?", asked Embers. If he had a choice they would have stuck around to watch but Soot had gotten nervous as soon as the tension had mounted so they'd hopped out. "Not if we can help it. Or at least not till everyone calms down.", answered Soot. She hadn't even caught what most of the whole thing was about. She just knew that she and therefore her siblings weren't going to be a part of it. Ashes cracked open an eye to scowl at her sister. "We could have at least listened for a while. What if something is said we need to know?"Soot rolled her eyes at Ashes, sibling rivalry she supposed. "So? We'll ask all about it when we go back later. You both know how big on gossip the warren is."

Ah, just ahead.
Three rabbits, by the looks, and rather far from home, so to speak. They looked as though they might be related and he quickly scanned them over. Two does and one buck. They really needed does and the buck would be welcome, too. All looked healthy, albeit rather skinny. Most of the warren rabbits looked woefully underfed. Feeling as though their conversation was his cue, the rather ordinary looking rabbit hopped nearer, clearing his throat.
"It's dangerous, being a hlessi - I should know. If you three are interested, though, I just might know a solution to your problems." He kept himself low, his ears along the nape of his neck as he tried to appear nonthreatening. It didn't sound as though they had heard what the chief had said, that he and his comrades had to vacate the premises by the next day and weren't allowed on Watership land. He had hoped his gamble was accurate, at least.

Soot saw him first, since she was on watch and all, and she pinned her ears back on top of her head and chattered her teeth at him threateningly but his submissive pose made her allow him to get closer. She still eyed him with hostility though. "What do you want Hlessi? What do you mean by solution? What would you know. I don't think a Hlessi would know anything I wanted to hear."
Ashes cracked both her eyes open curiously and looked around Soot to see the stranger. As much as he wanted them to believe, and everyone for that matter, that he was a Hlessi, she wasn't convince. He was better fed than they were. She hopped over to nudge Soot and lay her head on her sisters back. "Shush. Let him talk sister. He looks better fed than we are."
Embers hopped over out of curiosity and to watch over and protect his sisters. He wasn't so much interested in the Hlessi as what his sisters were now doing and saying. He loved to be in the know.

He balked slightly at Soot's words, but only just slightly and it was feigned. He trusted in his abilities to fight and run if it came to that, but violence was something he wanted to avoid and the other two seemed at least slightly interested in what he had to say.
"It's become obvious to myself and to my comrades that your warren is in trouble - starving, even? From what we've seen, you are all overcrowded. I know of a warren where there is more flay than rabbits and more burrows, to boot. My friends and I arrived yesterday. We aren't really hlessi, we hail from the warren I am talking about and we are on the search for new members. As you can see, I am well fed." He sat back on his haunches, gesturing towards his bark coloured body in general - it was obvious that he was not hurting for something to eat, as he was thicker than many of the Down's rabbits.
"If you are interested, I can take you there. It's obvious this warren is in dire need of help and we will take who all we can."

It was Embers who hopped in front of his sisters to block the fake hlessi from them. "What you speak of is treasonous. We are not deserters." Despite everything he had a strong love for his warren, not as strong as his love for his sisters but still.
When Soot began to hiss Ashes jabbed her in the side with a paw and then used her brother as a stand and set her front paws on his back to look over him. "What you speak of truly is treasonous. We have strong Owsla that surely wouldn't like what you suggest. Sweeten the deal. Tell more us of this warren." Ashes mind was on food. In respect for her siblings she often let them eat and took the leftovers. She was the skinniest and smallest of the three.
Soot's mouth hung open as her sister took the lead for once. Ashes was normally more quiet and reserved and now she was suggesting to a hlessi that they might be interested in deserting the warren they'd been born into.

"Treasonous, but sometimes we rabbits have to do what we can to survive. It'd be a shame to starve to death... Think of the kittens? Surely you all have some young in there and the flay won't be growing in these parts for some time yet. The marli will need all the flay they can get and with so many warrens straining the land..." While he may have had ulterior motives, he was sincere. He did not like seeing others suffer and the young had a soft spot in the buck's heart. His thoughts flitted back to their own young, who had been left behind until they found a safe warren... Were they still alright?
"If you would like to know more, that I certainly can tell you. As I said before, we have enough flay to keep your bellies full and enough burrows so that you may rest easy - you and whoever else in your warren who would like to come with us, as well. Our rah is a strong doe and a good leader. She has never led us wrong and does what she can to help keep us safe. There is no bickering among our ranks." None at the moment, at least, but he clearly remembered the argument going on during their arrival between some of the owsla.

Soot's ears swiveled forward from the backward position she'd had them in since the arrival of the stranger. Female Rah? How was that possible? Their Rah was male and that was how it had always been. Always. "She? No warren has a female Rah." She queried suspiciously. He'd caught the attention of the other two siblings also and they were now focused on him for his answer. He'd truly put forward an absurd idea.

"Our warren has a female rah. Ethilerah has never led us falsely. We've had doe-chiefs for many generations, now. Our captain is always a buck. Ethilerah does well watching over us and I am sure she would welcome you all with an open heart." He'd heard other warrens did not operate the same way his own was, but he had been born and raised with doe chiefs and to have buck chiefs was a foreign concept to him. Does reared the kittens, they were marli, they were strong caretakers and it only made sense in the brown buck's mind that a doe cared for and led a warren.
"I can lead you to our warren and show you what state it is in if you do not believe what I have to say. It isn't too far from here. Of course, we'd be overjoyed if you decided to stay and I do believe you'd be better off for it." He settled back on all fours and scratched at a festering itch behind one ear with the claws of his rear paw. He hoped his companions were having as much luck as he - if not more-so.

All three rabbits stared at him in confusion. How could this be? "How does a female become Rah? Does she have to fight her way up through the ranks like our Rah?", asked Soot. Her two other siblings nodded in agreement. "Tell us about this warren." ...before we go see. It wasn't said but Soot might have implied it. To reinforce the statement her tummy rumbled and Ashes gave her a look of sympathy. They were all hungry.
