 A lone diver swam through the faintly lit sea, picking her way along the floor as she towed a basket behind her. Finding a pocket of oysters, she carefully picked them up one at a time, coaxing them open with a dull knife to check for their treasure. Empty ones would be returned to the sea floor, and the rest would go back with her for food and money.
Having filled her basket with the last few additions, Cyrielle smoothly ascended to the surface, taking a breath of fresh sea air as her head popped above the water. Gliding over to where her boat rocked in the gentle waves, she settled the basket in first, before climbing in as well. Picking up the oar nestled on the bottom of the small outrigger, and paddling her way back to the coastal town. Once she was ashore and had secured her small water craft, she headed to what passed for a house out here. Her home, for now.
After going through the oysters and having a quick meal, Cyrielle gathered up the pearls from the day's dive, and headed for the fish market to sell them.

 Sunlight burst through an open window in of a small room in the back of a restaurant. The lone resident stirred in her sleep and yawned. The alarm clock that sat on a high shelf across the room activated. Ootachi groaned and hurled her pillow at the annoying racket. The pillow crashed into the clock, sending them both tumbling down and, with a loud crash, the alarm never rang again. Tachi jumped to her feet and squeeked, "I'm awake!" She swayed slighty as the blood rushed to her head, but steadied herself and headed to the bathroom.
After she'd washed her face and brushed her teeth, she grabbed her bag and got ready to head out. Her adopted parents were sleeping in that day. She would have liked to spend her birthday with them, but she didn't want to be a bother, so she decided not to mention it to them. Tachi pulled out her list of everything she was going to do that day, "Head to market, buy makings for sandwhich, cupcakes, extra frosting for cupcakes, candles, and matches, go home, make sandwhiches, put food in picnic basket, go to the beach, have dinner on the beach, watch sunset, head back home, go to bed." She thought for a moment then drew an arrow between market and home and added, "Look at shiny jewelry." It was her birthday, she was allowed to make changes to her daily schedual. Happy with the way it now looked, she snuck out the back window and hurried off.

She was in no real hurry today, money was money and it would eventually come into her possession, regardless of what time it was. Browsing through the shop stalls here and there, fresh fish as well as non-aquatic foods, she finally came to the fine goods section. Some of the jewelry was okay, some wasn't worth the displays they sat in, and a few reminded her of pieces she used to own. She tried not to dwell on that too much, since it reminded her of her past, her family. And she was doing just fine without them, wasn't she?
Finally winding her way to the stalls she wanted, Cyrielle picked out a merchant who she hadn't dealt with recently, and moved in to see how much money she could get him to part with. It was a bit of a game, showing a carefully selected sample of her catch of the day, implying that the rest were the same or better. Almost like how farmers got rid of their less-desirable goods. Flash a smile, act like she was just a poor girl trying to make ends meet, maybe add a bit of spice to her voice.
Walking away from the poor merchant, though he might think he got the better deal of course, Cyrielle tossed the empty bag over her shoulder and idly counted how much wealthier she now was. Not too bad for a morning's work, and thankfully it didn't take much effort to do.
