But there weren’t fireflies tonight, not as far as she could see. The sky only grew darker as she wandered farther and farther from home, spun around in the muck and rhythmic beating of the rain. By daybreak, she was wholly and hopelessly lost. Glow wasn’t entirely sure she had ever been in this area of the swamp, which was disconcerting.
She’d seen so much; how could she be lost?
Trying to stop an oncoming panic attack, Glow focused in on what to do. Find shelter. Find food. Find home, when all else was tended to. Though shelter should have been first, she had wandered for so long and (as far as she knew) so far, that food was at the forefront of her mind.
Berries. She recognized the kind, though not the area they were growing in, and they were safe, right?
Glow was just excited at the prospect of food, and forced her snout right into the bush, snatching up berries here and there ravenously. What could possibly be threatening when there were berries to eat, right?

 Wallow had just woken up. He'd had a busy day yesterday, and had slept pretty hard. But today was a new day, and a new workout. He stretched a bit, then meandered over to his favorite berry patch for some breakfast, only to find someone else's snout was stuffed into it. Taking a moment to ogle the doe who was munching on his fruit, appreciating her fine colors and dapple pattern, he grins before finally speaking. "Well hello there..." he drawled.

So enamoured with her breakfast, Glow had no awareness of the intruding presence until it had, well… Spoke.
And then, like any brave young lass, she jumped sharply, rounding to face her would-be attacker—oh. Oh. She faltered, jaw working as she tried to formulate a sentence out of her brain going on overtime. Finally, she managed to find her voice. “H-hello,” she squeaked.
Well, it was close enough.
"I’m sorry, is this—Well, I mean, I didn’t notice anyone, I’m sorry if I intruded—" She began to explain her presence, though using the words ‘I’m lost’ refused to force their way out. She wasn’t lost, per se. She just wasn’t… in an area she was familiar with.
Right.
“I’m sorry.” She repeated, swallowing and trying to focus on her breathing. In, and out, nice and even. “Good morning.” Conversation. He was just another buck. She had conversations with Heed all the time! This was a walk in the muck. Nothing out of the ordinary.

Wallow doesn't even react as she whirls around, still just grinning. He watched her try to speak with amusement written all over his features. He let her sputter out her nervous little rambling (it happened all the time when does were near him), then chuckled. He looks far from mad. "Morning. And no worries. What's mine is yours, and all that." He gives her a wink, possibly to be reassuring, but more probably just cos he's a big flirt.

That Wallow didn’t seem upset by her presence seemed to calm Glow a bit. She exhaled a little through her nose, nodding to him with a soft smile. If the wink phased her one way or another, that seemed easy to mask. “Thank you.” She said, glancing sideways to the berry bush again. “I like to ask, first, but…” Well. It’d been a long night.
“I’m called Glow in the Frost. Glow is less of a mouthful, though.” She offered, smiling a little wider at Wallow.

"You're welcome to more of those berries, if you need. Are you lost?" he asks, glad she's calming down a bit. "Good to meet you. I'm Wallow. Others usually call me Wallow. Or Mud, or Muck, or Reckless, or Flirt.... you know, one of those. I answer to about anything," he replies easily, grinning. This buck just seems to exude confidence from everywhere.

Glow perked at the prospect of more berries, but it was soured by his question. Lost? No, never. Not her. Not Glow. She knew the whole of the swamp like the back of her hoof—“A bit.” She admitted, grimacing a little. “The rain turned me all around. I’m not entirely sure which way I came from.” There was no point in lying, not really. She’d find her way back soon enough.
In the meantime, it was nice to see another kimeti who wasn’t directly or indirectly related to her.
She grinned a bit at the litany of names Wallow answered to, looking over with a wry grin. “What about shameless?” She offered, her tone perking a little teasingly. “It’s nice to meet you, Wallow. It is nice to see a friendly face so far from home.” She knew she had to be at least a day’s run, with the way she had bolted through the rain the night before.
She stepped to the bush, but paused, looking back. “This is your berry bush; you should eat, too.” She would feel better for taking more if she wasn’t taking them all, after all. Guest or not; that was just rude.

"Ah, well it is a big swamp," he allowed graciously, "I'm sure you'll find your way eventually." Hopefully not too soon, though, he decided he'd like to get to know this pretty doe some more. At her retort to his list of names, he grins even wider, his glowing eyes twinkling a bit. "Guilty as charged." The bull puffed out his chest a bit. "Wouldn't have it any other way, either." "If you insist, m'lady, I will in fact, join you for breakfast." And he strutted up to the bush to do just that.

Glow snorted softly at that. “Bigger than I had thought,” she admitted. It was foolish, she realized, to ever think she would know every nook and granny of the entire swamp. A fool’s errand. No wonder Heed had been so drawn to the project; where she assumed he knew all, he was learning just as much as she was.
She moved aside to let Wallow strut up to the bush, only returning to eat after he did. It was only fair. She’d started without him; he should go first for the second go. While he ate, she tried to discreetly eye Wallow in between nibbles.
Definitely different from Heed; bulkier, and his horns were fascinating. She’d seen so little save for the familiar foxbuns and fireflies. Were there more kimeti like Wallow, different and exotic and… well. She couldn’t deny he was attractive. Ahem.
She spoke after a minute, between bites. “Have you always been here?” She asked, curiously. A strange question, but the more she thought about it, the more the words demanded out.
Maybe the next project could be meeting more kin like Wallow; of unique hair and horns and scales, oh my. That would be interesting…

He finally had his full share, taking long enough so she has time to ogle him back (no, he doesn't have eyes in the back of his head, he's just used to it, well, and a bit conceited wink ), before letting her at it again if she wishes. "It is quite large, the swamp, I've been around. And no, I haven't always been here. I travel a lot. But I like to come back here every so often. It's a nice area. Great berries." He winks.

She tried to be discreet, but… That was more her father than her. No doubt, he knew she was observing him. (Observing, ogling, the difference is a technicality!) She leaned in to munch on a few more berries as he spoke, her ears swiveling slightly towards him.
Glow grinned a little at that, nodding. “I thought I’d seen so much of the swamp.” She said after a minute, snorting softly as she leaned back, regarding him with a somewhat sheepish smile. “Such an explorer, and yet… Lost.” The more she thought of it, the less terrifying it was.
Really, how far could she be from home? The swamp wasn’t endless. And it was an opportunity. Heed always told her to take those! It’d be fine. Really.

Wallow smiles. "Don't think of it as being lost, just being somewhere you haven't been before. Some place new to explore. Then you just... keep going. It doesn't matter where, you know? Eventually you may reach some place you've been before. And then it starts happening more and more... and one day... it just clicks." He chuckles. "Sure, there's a few places I haven't been, but you keep an ear out, talk to others, and learn of them. And then you try to find them yourself. It's part of the big adventure that's called life."

"That's a good point." Glow said, nodding slowly. "It'll be nice to have new stories to tell my father." He'd no doubt be impressed, if not grateful that Glow was okay. She smiled a little at him. "Thank you."
"You're the first kin I've seen in ages that wasn't related." She admitted after a minute, frowning a little. "We travel together, Heed and I, usually at night with the fireflies." She snorted softly. "There isn't much opportunity to see others in the dark of night." And even when there was, they usually steered clear; some of the night-time kin were astonishing to behold. Caution being what it was to Glow, she tried to steer clear of anything unfamiliar.
"New stories would nice to hear." She grinned a little, thinking. As much as it scared her, it'd be some time before she returned home. Why not try to glean some stories out of kin she had never seen before?

"Stories are the best part of adventure. Passing it on to others makes it even better. Whether they believe them or not," he grins. "There are some things that some people who never come out of their hidey holes will never believe so..well, that's their decision, eh?" "Ah, you do need to get out more! There's all sorts of interesting kin out there. And different kin than we kimeti. Have you never met a Kiokote, or an Acha? Even those stuffy Totoma can be interesting sometimes..." he pauses. "Oh dear me, I am rambling, aren't I..." he gives her another of his winning smiles.

Glow smirked a little at Wallow, entertained both by his soliloquy and his never-ending supply of charming smiles. She bobbed her head in agreement, laughing a little, and nipped another berry off of the bush before them. "Only a little," She assured, her tone carefully even. The effect was ruined a moment later at the wide grin that split across her face. "Still, I don't mind." She assured, stepping back and sitting down after a moment's consideration to the ground beneath her.
"It's interesting to hear another's take on the swamp and what it has to offer." She explained kindly, smiling at Wallow. "I have little to offer myself. More of a listening sort, I'm afraid." But she was eager to hear more, or so it seemed. "Have you any stories to share?" She asked, grinning softly. "If you wouldn't mind, that is; I've already inserted myself to your berry bush, I suppose I can't be upset if you don't want my company for much longer." Glow didn't seem phased by the notion, not upset nor disappointed. It was something she expected, so it seemed.
