Ok, I've read both series of her's (and can whole heartedly say I'm completely addicted to faeries now) and wanna know... who's better at a.) fighting b.) magic c.) dating men in general ^_^

Well, I think Merry seems to handle the magic better, just because she has been surrounded by it her whole life, and she is great at politics.
Anita is better at just kicking butt! She is not as adept at vamp politics, and usually ends up in the middle of a mess because she always tries to put her own morality above the politics. I think that is great, but it usually gets her into trouble.
I love Merry & Anita, equally but differently.

i picked anita just because i have only read one of the other set and i dont even remember much from it now. i am guessing i should read it now that there is more to the set redface but i am so addicted to nathanial um ohh i mean the anita blake series ninja

Sadly I couldn't choose sweatdrop Meredith is the perfect politician/princess/scary going-to-be-queen and Anita is just Anita, very very good at what she does... though I think the deciding factor falls between Frost, Galen, Micah, and Jean-Claude... I know I'd probably stalk them home if I ever came across any one of them on the street xd 3nodding

In my opinion, Merideth would have to win a dating contest with Anita. She's royalty and so men are more likely to be with her because of that fact.

I'd have to say that Merry has more men (sixteen officially, plus others). She's also just all around better at dating - she doesn't have all the hang-ups Anita does.
In terms of fighting... I think I'd have to go with Anita. She's just been around more death, and she fights more often. Though, now that I think about it, Merry has duels and stuff... idk.
Magic-wise... Merry, simply because of variety. And the whole Danu/Goddess bit. Anita's good with magic, but she also won't trust it. Merry uses power to her advantage, even if she's never dealt with it before (like when she first comes back to the sithen).

Fighting - Anita.
One, you don't see Merry doing a lot of fighting. Two, Anita has guns with a variety of lead and silver bullets that do a lot of the fighting for her.
However, if you take into consideration just who Merry is... It depends on the situation.
If it were an official faerie duel, then it'd be just Merry and Anita in the ring... Oh wait, no guns. Merry has hand of flesh. Anita is mortal.
Okay, I take back what I said. Merry would win if she could get close enough to cut or touch Anita.
But... from a distance... Anita. Definietly.
Magic - Merry.
The variety Merry has to choose from is definetly impressive. She knows what she's doing and she can usually figure out what someone else is doing just from what she's seeing...
And, as has been said, Anita doesn't trust the magic stuff even though she's pretty handy at it herself. Her reaction to magic is to shoot it. Merry's is to counter it with more magic. (And, as Nakor would say in my fave fave series, magic counter magic counter magic counter magic til everyones doing magic and then a melee guy will come along and chop 'em all up).
Dating men in general - This is an iffy one but I'm leaning towards Anita.
Merry isn't dating her men. She's ******** them.
And don't tell me that Anita is just ******** her men too... The point I'm trying to make is that with dating? Anita gets taken out. She gets dinner and some theatre (occassionally). Merry just gets to see different views of her bedroom (Bedspread one night, ceiling the next, maybe some wall).

Anita fights the changes that are happening to her, and any time someone fights who they are, it makes them weak. Also, Merry gives in completely to the love she feels for her men. Anita is always fighting her feelings and not accepting all the men in her life.

That's true but they were also raised in completely different settings so they adapted to their environments, sidhe are the more accepting types and then there's the rest of the world where Anita's from. It sort of works for me that they have very different back grounds. To quote u, if I may. "I love them equally but differently" (that n I just like that quote for the fact that they both date lots of men n love them just not the same for each ^.^)

Anita Blake all the way. There is way too much sex in Meridith Gentry so it's not all that good. I'm sorry but the sex got old very quickly. She could do better with that series instead of having it all sexually but we shall see. I'm very reluctant to buy the fourth book. If it's any good please pm me. If it's mostly sex, then I do not want to read it. I like the fighting and the blood and mystery...and more. Heh.
Anita I hope will become better instead of all the sex.

But with Anita, there was NO sex for so long that the extreme amount of sex now is just really unsettling.

I don't think its as unsettling as much as just a different aspect of here that we didn't get in the beginning. Too much isn't neccessarily a good thing but change can be with certain characters... like that whiny as Richard, god I wanna scream 'get over yourself!' at him but oh well, personal rant

i think fighting will be Anita. Dating i would think is merry just cause i don't know she's royal and all. magic i also think is merry. i really like both series equally depending on my mood. 3nodding
