Lisha couldn't tell you how much she hated when her vocal chords seized up for some reason or another -- not only because they would not allow her to speak to tell you (there are other ways, anyhow), but because it was such a frustrating feeling that she probably didn't even want to talk about it anyway. Most people wouldn't understand anyway, even if she did try. For the most part, it was annoying, but it could be painful. The weather lately had encouraged the 'painful' side of things -- cold and dry and generally a pain in the butt.
It wasn't exactly a surprise that her mother had noticed the shift, either. She usually had a cup of tea a day in an attempt to soothe her throat, and some days could even go without, but lately she'd been boiling water an average of three times every day, sometimes having more than one cup each time the water was warm enough. At first she just shook her head when her mother suggested trying to find someone about a remedy, but her mother was insistent, and finally Lisha knew that even if she didn't agree, her mother would just go behind her back and find someone anyway.
And so she had finally given in and allowed her mother to find someone under her blessing (as if she hadn't been looking anyway -- she'd pulled out information on five doctors the moment Lisha finally complied). After a long process which mostly involved Lisha shrugging at her mother's acquired information, she was now seated at the kitchen table, tea in hand, waiting for some travelling doctor to stop by and offer whatever help he could, which Lisha sadly thought wouldn't be much. No one could ever do much of anything to help her condition.
The brunette looked down into her cup at the sediment settling along the bottom. She swirled it lightly before her eyes flicked back up to where her mom was doing dishes and pretending not to be gazing out the window every few minutes. Lisha shook her head and took another sip of tea.

The chosen had to admit, even in winter, his 'business' was booming. Some might have said it was a good thing that he was so busy. Sure, it added up, but the root was that people were getting sick, were sick, or soon to be sick and he had to go out into the cold and help them. Money? He didn't have a great want for it and it wasn't like he lived lavishly and it was needed to keep what comforts he did enjoy. He much rather wanted people to be healthy and call him less, not more. But for some, a doctor was always needed, and so he was thus ever moving, ever busy even in the bitter cold. Called in by a woman's mother about what he'd been told was a persistent issue with the throat he'd brought a few of the common supplies, honey, tea leaves, and a few of the supposed healing properties of the 'magic pill'. He didn't trust the city doctors who apparently, hadn't even tested it yet on actual patients. To Marco is was asking for trouble. He'd stick to what he knew and just that, he'd do his best to help the one he'd been requested to see. Somnium at his side, Marco walked towards the building he'd been told to go to, the buck carrying his supplies with a thin layer of snow on his fur. Knocking of the door he hoped that he was both at the right house, and that people were home. Mika_Yumi Marco is the doctor lol. It's okay tho ppl get names mixed all the time

Lisha's mother was already waiting at the door, hand on the knob as the doctor approached and rapped upon the door. Though she had waited until then, she certainly opened the door too quickly to pretend she hadn't been anticipating his arrival. The woman offered a kind smile and held the door back so that the doctor might enter.
"You're the doctor we called for, I presume. Welcome! Please come in." Lisha took a deep breath and tried to let it out slowly, ripples forming on the surface of her tea before she took a good sip. She smiled at the doctor and looked him over as he stepped in, though she didn't stand to offer a real greeting, and her mother gave her a look about it as she closed the door behind the new arrival -- as if her daughter minded. By then, anyway, she was distracted and somewhat surprised to see a Guardian following him, and Frethen seemed curious, too, as he shuffled in his corner of the room.
Lisha dismissed her curiosity with a slight shake of her head and pulled a notebook waiting on the table closer to her. Her mother, in the mean time, introduced herself, "Thank you for coming. I am Esla, and this is Lisha -- she's the one having troubles."
Lisha wrote across the top of a fresh page, Hello, sir. My vocal chords are atrocious, and the cold only makes it worse. My mother would appreciate any help you can give. Thank you kindly. It was probably not the kind of greeting her mother hoped she would give, but there was nothing to be done as Lisha turned and presented it to the doctor.iStoleYurVamps AUGH I'M SORRY, I fixed it. ; n; I think I was a touch tired while getting that title in there. x.x';

The swing of the open door had Marco pulling back slightly. He hadn't quite been expecting that. Somnium jumped a little bit, but was quick to recover, curiosity making him press forward against Marco, urging the doctor in more than the woman's words. Nodding to the woman he took off his gloved, shoving them in his coat pocket. "Marco Rossi, at your service." Somnium barged his way in looking to the girl before her mother and then to the other guardian. A small clatter of hooves, he bowed lightly. It was only polite after all. Marco nodded to Elsa before looking toward his patient. "Good day Lisha, illness aside. And don't worry too much miss. I'd be a poor doctor if I didn't respond to a call." His own morals wouldn't have allowed him otherwise. Going over to Lisha and looking at the note, he nodded. Eye flicking over to the tea. "If speaking is difficult we can use the notes. First, i'd like to know when things started to get worse, and what has been the worst you've experienced." Somnium meanwhile was busy looking at the other guardian, curious. "I also apologize for Somnium. He is.. what he is." The buck snorted. He was a guardian, it wasn't that hard to say now was it?

Frethen was intrigued, but returned the bow to his fellow Guardian before watching too intently. Elsa offered a smile and stepped back, out of the doctor's way. She moved to her own cup of tea, waiting on the counter.
As Marco made his first comment and request, Lisha sighed and fought the urge to roll her eyes a bit. The notepad wasn't for this situation only -- but then, he couldn't know that. He'd only just met her and even begun to try to understand her case. She took a sharp breath and retrieved the notepad to begin writing. She at least took a moment to smile at the doctor and his guardian at the excuse -- there was no reason to apologize for him. She almost wanted to return a comment about Frethen, but she didn't feel like taking the extra moment to write anything. Elsa at least provided, "No, he's surely fine."
As Lisha wrote, her mother took the opportunity to continue trying to be a pleasant hostess; she had learned in the past that Lisha preferred to tell her story herself (years of people feeling the need to speak for her made her tired of never having her own voice, even if it was her mother and 'her own voice' equated to the sound of a utensil scratching on parchment). "Is there anything I can offer you, Doctor Rossi? Would you like some tea, to warm you after your journey?" Frethen took the opportunity to take a tentative few steps towards Somnium, ears twitching before he inclined his head and continued to watch the other curiously.
When Lisha had finished her answer, she turned the notepad once again toward the doctor: Talking is always difficult. My hand has more practice speaking for me than my voice will ever achieve. My throat doesn't do well in cold, but this harsh winter has been particularly hard, and the pain became noticeably worse perhaps two, two and a half weeks ago? I went from one cup of tea to three. As for the worst I've experienced with my throat... I screamed so badly once when I was twelve that I didn't want to eat or drink anything for almost three days. Is that sufficient enough information? She looked up at him and waited for him to read, watching his face carefully for any indication of what other information she might be able to provide.

A tap on his finger on the table, Marco watched the girl write out her answer, only looking away to gice Else a nod. "He won't make a mess. Or cause a ruckus." Somnium ignore the underhanded warning, stopping his hoof a few times. He'd make a ruckus if he wanted, though the reality was he wouldn't, not even if Marco riled him up. Holding up his hand Marco kept looking at Lisha. "I can enjoy tea when I have time to do so. As of now, I am a doctor seeing to a patient. Thank you for the offer however." As the notepad was turned to him he read the words while Somnium tilted his head at the other guardian approaching to give a small nod before looking at Lisha then back to the Guardian. It was hard enough not being able to communicate with Marco, and the buck couldn't image if the link they had was anything less than it was. ".....The cold can strip a throat of the ability to speak, but not normally to the level you're experiencing. Drinking the tea is perhaps one of the best things to have been doing, and if you've experienced worse for stressing the muscles, then it's a good sign." He pushed the notepad back to her. "Round two, did you eat anything that might have triggered an inflammation such as a spicy dish? Badly prepared food? Hav you also been subject to coughing fits and if so, describe them to me in detail. It's a possibly you might have han and infection and with the cold it's caused harsh inflammation that's not been give a good chance to heal."

Elsa simply nodded at his response and allowed herself to fade into the background, sipping her tea and sitting in a chair against the wall. Lisha watched the doctor's face carefully as he read over her note. She wasn't sure if he understood the problem or not yet -- but of course, he was new, it would take time. She just hated the trials of trying to find a doctor who could help and having to explain things time and again.
She bit her bottom lip as he responded, and tilted her head in thought at the new questions. She pulled the notepad a tad closer and shifted to begin writing again. Behind her, Frethen watched Somnium and responded with a shake of his head before jutting his head forward and up with a brief grunt. It was easier to conceive their communication since that was all they'd ever known. It was difficult from time to time, but you learned to be aware of body language, the meaning in a touch, even just the feel of the energy around you.
Lisha turned the notepad back for Marco to read: I truly rarely speak, the problem this winter is with the pain. My vocal chords are brittle, have worked very poorly my whole life. As for spicy foods, I cannot think of anything I spicy in my recent diet. My mother may not be the best cook, but she is careful to prepare each meal well. I have had a few coughing fits, I suppose. Usually I find my throat dry in the morning and cough then, and they are typically dry, quick, and happen in a flurry. I have water next to my bed for this purpose. I've had a few occur during the day, generally after I've been outside for more than a half-hour or so, of the same condition.
She hoped that she was giving him all of the information that he needed, but she couldn't be sure. She never knew exactly how to answer doctors' questions. She was always afraid that she would miss some detail that could be the key to fixing things.

She didn't seem to be getting angry with his questions, nor did her mother seem to be annoyed. Better than some. After all 'you've asked enough questions why don't you have a cure' rants were hardly fun for anyone. As he waited, Somnium was returned to his side, watching the girl with the same intense look as Marco had. The words on paper meant little to the guardian. He was just interested in what had captured Marco's interest, work or no. Thye note passed back, Marco leaned forward, fingers tapping at his chin before pulling back. "A longstanding case with known limitations." Looking to his bag there was a small frown as he began to pull out a few items. "I'm afraid I don't have my stronger materials to offer. But I'll try my best to lessen your pain." He looked at her, curious. "I assume it lessens, but never leaves anyway. Now-" A small jaw of gold translucent beads, he uncorked it, tapping a bead into his hand. "These are honey and herb drops usually used for coughing fits. They also help sooth raw throats. When you can feel a couching fit coming on, put one in you mouth a suck, do not chew. Let your body react and produce it's best aid, your own spit." That hardly sounded eloquent. "This is perhaps the simplest thing that can help sooth and prevent possible pain. Considering your case has the complication of longstanding poor muscles, we'll see if there are things we might be able to have you do to ease the stress placed on them. Are you willing to do as I say?" There was no point in helping if they would not help themselves. That was a sad truth really.

Lisha just nodded slightly at his musing, and lifted her head to sort-of-not-really maybe catch a glance at what he was getting from his bag before he revealed it. She smiled slightly at his offer to reduce her pain -- something was better than nothing! Besides, it might be just enough to keep her in a more comfortable position. Or tide her over until he someday had stronger supplies? She wasn't really sure if he would want to travel for her case again, though. It was a bit of a pain.
At his curious look, her head turned slightly to the side in consideration, but she nodded. Some days it really didn't seem to hurt at all, but that might just be because she had gotten so used to whatever base pain there was. Most of the time, at least, there was something -- a lump in her throat, an itch, an ache, a tingle...
Lisha peered at the golden orbs curiously. She wasn't sure exactly what to think about them, but honey sounded good. At this point, she was willing to try just about anything at least once, so she nodded attentively at the beads. At his spit comment, she stifled a smile to a mere smirk and nodded her head in consideration.
As the doctor continued, Lisha watched him with brows furrowed, serious. She was always a little wary of new treatments -- more than one had backfired on her -- but what could she do but try them? If she never gave anything a chance, she would never know if she missed out on something that could truly help her. She wasn't sure about his wording, but when he asked if she would do as he said, she immediately nodded. Of course she would! She would at least try. If things went south, she would let him know and move on. She smiled, though unable to hide some of her worry, and waited for any other suggestions.

The jar was set down on the table, finger tapping to the cork. "Keep it away from heat unless you want to get a block of honey and herb stuck in the bottle. Room temperature is best, freezing is well... just would make it colder." Some people liked that, other did not. "Don't add it to drinks, just take as is." Folding his hands he sighed. "It's nothing extreme, but it's tedious. Every morning and every night, boil water and breathe in the steam. You can use a towel over your head to help catch the steam but just a few minutes of breathing the steams should clear your airways. Adding a few herbs to the water can't hurt, but first doing a few days of the steam as is. Also, you'll need to take up stretching you neck if you don't already." He tilting his head to the side. "Fairly simple. Left, right, forward, back. Just enough to feel a slight pull, hold the position for twenty seconds." He brought his head back, looking forward. "And done. Twice a day, morning and evening though not right before or after bed." A final thing, he sighed. "Now.. Last but not least, gargling salt water. Do this only if your throat feels like it's mucus filled or you have trouble breathing. Don't swallow, just gargle and spit. It will help remove any build up." Looking to Lisha he smiled. "I hope that isn't too demanding or you've been pressed to do such measures before."
