Adil stood off to one side, watching the rest of the herd in their interactions. Wishing to join, but feeling out of place. There was no one stopping him, he knew. Just his own stupidity. Why could he not let go of the insecurities that he was being pushed unwanted into this herd's circle? Into his family's? Did his mother even intend on staying her or was she just following his father to make him pick up his end of the slack? He had pondered that for a while, but had been too afraid to learn the truth. If she had been planning on leaving, then he really would feel like a burden on this herd. An unwanted visitor who did nothing but leech off them as he grew. Learn what he could of the same combat Nash had learned. For what? So he could take a role as Warrior here, regardless if his mother left or not?
The stallion shifted uneasily, feeling the sand at his feet sucking his hooves in deeper. If he enjoyed it here, that should be all that mattered. Sometimes he wasn't even sure of that. Sure, he enjoyed spending time with most of the family on his father's side. But he was growing restless. More restless each day which was harder and harder for time with his family to cure.
He couldn't avoid it much longer. The point of the matter was there felt like nothing here for him. He didn't wish to make goods. They were too far out in the desert to make use of any warrior skills. And there was no pretty mare to sway his heart. At least none who appeared really interested in him. No in Adil, who was as cold as his eyes on the surface.
The acturus walked away from the herd, not stopping the thoughts that went over how soon a caravan or group of travelers would be leaving that he could join.
"Madhu," Adil called out as his older brother came into view along his usual path through the vegetation. "You must stop hiding. You're the elder. What good will it do to hide all your life?"

Madhu had been hiding in the shade of a great palm, avoiding all the taunts and jabs of his rather unsightly nickname he'd acquired as a young foal his very presence seemed to be able to do unexplained things he was tired of hearing his name chanted like a curse or a warning it didn't help he looked so much like his father he'd gotten a few looks of distrust, the only one who seemed to want to be his friend was Nahusha who on some level could relate to Madhu mostly in the having childish father department. Nahusha's father didn't look down on him, his own did, but that was his own fault for being so cowardly.
The arion envied Nash as a warrior for his strength and courage, he had even trained his brother. Nahusha had even offered to train him but it had been a disaster when Madhu even picked up a practice weapon, somehow he'd ended up causing a mess in the practice arena and finished in a most unbecoming position. It wasn't that he didn't want to be stronger he just didn't think he could, Nausha didn't give up on him though like most people. He'd found the stallion to be a great friend
Ah here comes his younger brother who might and should have been the older. He was everything as a foal madhu had wanted to be but failed miserably.
"I'm sorry brother I can't help it," he whispered back at his brother, "at least no one gets hurt this way." he finished softly, his brother had seemingly been looking at the horizon, he'd seen his brother looking at the caravan times before but this one felt different.
"are you leaving?"

Adil had to resist the urge to sigh. His brother's insistence that he was the equal of a black cat was foolish. The younger of Tahmid's boys was not one for believing in any supernatural force. He didn't believe in good or bad luck nor think karma existed. He wouldn't even go as far as to consider himself religious, even being skeptical of that. Much to the disappointment of the Queen and most of the herd when he was younger. And permitted to hang around the royal family. Of course, now that he was fully grown that obviously meant his male urges were too great to be trusted around the females, 'specially the Queen. Just as foolish a notion as bad luck, in his opinion. There was but one mare who ever got Adil's attention and the Queen, nor her granddaughter, were her. Even so, the interesting mare wasn't interesting enough to seek out as his mate for life. She was just a pretty mare he had known since his youth. Nothing more.
The red cloth on Adil's leg stirred softly in the breeze, caressing his foreleg lovingly. Said mare was the only one he had voiced his desires to. Maybe it was his affections that made him go to her, first. The stallion never even told Nash. It felt good to have his little secret alone with the lady.
That was until Madhu opened his mouth.
Adil merely looked at his brother, not bothering to look ashamed or even guilty that the voiced question was the same one going over in his mind so often as of late. What was the point of lying? He would have to tell them all eventually. All the ones that mattered, anyway. The only thing that ever seemed to matter to their father was how many sons he had sired. But whether that number was merely to keep his legacy going or just how many he had sired in a lifetime he was unsure. A confrontation with his father would be needed before he left. To tie up lose ends.
Before I left. The words had come unbidden. He guessed that meant he really wouldn't be staying here any longer.
"It seems very likely I will, yes." If he was to be dropped onto a family, it wasn't going to be because he had been nothing more than a mistake.

Madhu lowered his ears submissively on instinct, hardly befitting of a firstborn son, though he eventually though coming out of his hiding spot to stand beside his brother. What if his brother got hurt by him just standing here? Madhu did his best to sake the defeatist thoughts from his mind, what ever it was his curse or whatever didn't seem to affect his family... that he knew of.
His brother was going to leave, that was no good what about mother? she would be crushed if he left and never came back, what if something happened to Adil?
"Where will you go?" he couldn't help but ask timidly fluttering his little brown wings he suspected Adil didn't care were he went, just that he went, even Madhu had noticed his brother hadn't been happy here in this place. He wasn't happy either, but he didn't have the courage to leave or say anything.
"What about mother? she'll be sad to see you go..." there were so many loose ends in such an outing like this, maybe... maybe if he was with adil hew would have the courage to go with him? Could he? He glanced over to the caravan sheepishly.

Adil's face remained unchanged, his pale eyes watching his older brother emerge from the bush. The birth order of the three of them was strange. In his opinion, Sadia should be in his position, Madhu in hers, and Adil in Madhu's. It was not arrogance that made him think so. It was knowledge of all their behaviors. Adil was more cool-headed, able to take the fall for his mistakes and behave with courtesy and fairness. Madhu was far too shy and skittish for his rank in the family. It was absurd. But that was what the Gods had chosen and there was nothing to do about it.
Maybe he could teach Madhu how to be more of a man. If he could handle staying long enough to do that. He didn't think he had it in him. He meant to leave soon and put all these worries and insecurities behind him. Start new in his life. Make it feel like his and not someone's mistake.
Or maybe he could convince his brother to go with him. A trip might do Madhu good. Experiences with the world outside your home territory tended to. At least that's what he heard from the travelers passing through.
"The young must be given the chance to fly the nest." Looking away from Madhu, Adil watched as the caravan packed up to make a trip to another herd. He couldn't help wondering where they were going next. What it was like to camp out under the stairs with your fellow travelers. To see the world and all the adventures it provided. What kind of adventures would he find when he left? "I need to see what's out there. Make a better name for myself than I would ever find here."

Madhu couldn't help but worry he didn't want his brother to leave, what if something terrible happened to him when he was gone. If Madhu could be more of a stallion instead of a mare... could he honestly assert himself in front of his brother? Madhu glanced at Adil again... Nope.
It pained him because he could understand how his brother felt on some level. Madhu knew that suffocating feeling but he couldn't help but not want to leave. Despite all the troubles and strange looks the mare-esque stallion got. Madhu watched the caravan with his brother for a bit before glancing back up at him. Why was he such a mare? "No, please don't go think of mother." he pleaded again.
"Can't you make a name for yourself among the guards like Nahusha?" he was certain despite his heritage. Nahusha was still thought of better than his father. Adil could do the same.
Madhu couldn't help he was born the oldest he often wish he'd been born a mare, then no one would look at him like they did even Adil was embarrassed by him he knew.
"I'm sorry."

Caught in his own thoughts, Adil was oblivious to his brother's distress and glances. Already he was mapping where he would like to go on his trip. A one way trip, as it was very unlikely he would return except to visit. From the merchants he had heard of a few herds that sounded interesting. The one closest to this one governed solely by two mares and a female heir to boot most especially for one who grew up in a society so opposite. To get too close would probably not be wise, the merchants say. They don't take as kindly to strangers as this one does, male or female. He most certainly did not want a fight, 'specially one that had the chance to be traced back here. Who knew how unpredictable other leaders were. What is innocent to one might be seen as an attack by others. Yes, best to avoid that one. The other herds sounded more friendly. Perhaps he could find something to do in one of them. Make himself into a stallion for hire. That would be much better than trying to be anything here, where the desert was so thick around only the merchants dared to enter. Even Aludra hadn't seen her family since they left. If he had any chances of her going with him, he would have tried to convince her. He knew, however, the instructions left by her mother were too important to her. She would stick it out until she either died or succeeded. If she didn't learn to be more assertive, she wouldn't succeed.
"Mother should understand some Stars can't stay in one spot forever." She had left her own home, after all. Not even for her sake could he stay, though they were all the family she had. She had followed her instincts and done something with her life, even if it hadn't worked out as she had expected. He had to be left to do the same.
Adil sighed, looking at his brother, now. "I feel trapped, with this desert all around. It's a prison. It's nothing to do with you." he added quickly, feeling sympathetic towards Madhu.
