The last Threadfall had ended with surprisingly few injuries from his wing, though what there was had been relatively serious. He had a Green out for months, at the least, after she took a serious Scoring, which meant a slight adjustment to the wing. There were two others with serious wounds who would be out for a sevenday or two, and several minor Scorings that wouldn't affect the dragons' performance.
The young Wingleader poured over the list of his members at one of the tables in the dining hall; Dawn Fliers had yet to get a building specifically for their needs, which meant that meetings were conducted in his shared weyr or Wi'vren's. The situation wasn't ideal, but N'mol and Wi'vren both were making do as best they could. It helped that they were on more equal footing since Wi'vren had seen N'mol could handle Threadfall. The boost in confidence seemed to have cut down on some of the sharper jokes from N'mol's wingsecond. Today, however, N'mol was taking advantage of the relative quiet of the between-meals dining hall to get out of the weyr he still shared with D'lin. It also had the added benefit of allowing others to find him if they needed him without having to trek out to his weyr.
The new adjustments didn't worry him too much. They would just have to practice again soon to be ready in case Thread decided to surprise them while their members were still out. Three Greens and a Blue were out. He was thankful the Browns only had minor Scorings to contend with; it would get them back into the air that much more quickly, and N'mol was happy to again put off the day that he would lose another member of his wing to Thread.
Still, he was aware that the new riders out of Trine's latest Clutch had, as with Malvren's Weyrlings-turned-riders, been given the option of selecting from any of the available wings. N'mol hadn't heard from any of them yet, so he assumed the majority had chosen to stick with D'lin or one of the other Trine wingleaders-- or, potentially, gone to Kleos or Z'fer. N'mol had had some contact with the Weyrlings from Trine's low-color- and atypical-heavy Clutch, but he wasn't worried that none had approached him. Trine or Malvren were welcome to those riders who came from a Clutch weakened by their Weyrwoman's previously hindered state. If any were interested in his wing, they could approach him and he'd be happy to talk to them and assess if they would be an asset. After all, the Clutch had had Blues and Greens, and a Wing could never be sorry for a few more of the dragons who filled out the ranks.

F'iar wasn't sure who he should join. Yeah, his new friends he could always join with in their wings that they are a part of. He knew most of S'kiro's wing, but he wanted to meet others. He was getting a snack, thinking of what to do, while remembering Thread falling just a bit ago. Seeing his friends that went off to join, while he stayed back for now. MINE! We need more and new friends! Solath, while outside, was pushing for something different.
As he was turning, N'mol was sitting there. Taking a deep breath, F'iar walked up to him. This could be his chance to show what he can do, without being under wing in a battle with Thread. "Wingleader N'mol, may I speak with you? It is about your Wing." He had heard stuff about N'mol, but between F'iar and Solath, they could get him to see that Blues aren't that bad. That Benden one is! Shush you.

His name caught his attention, and after N'mol glanced up to see who was speaking he set his list down. This rider wasn't one of his-- meaning not from Benden-- but despite the slightly vague reference to his wing, the man seemed direct. A sweep of his gaze over the dark haired rider also took in the shoulder knots that denoted a Trine Bluerider.
"I'm sorry, I don't think we've been introduced." He smiled and held out a hand. "What's your name, rider, and what's this about my wing? Have a seat, please." He gestured briefly with the hand the man had yet to take at the space across from him. The reorganization of his wing could wait if this rider had something to talk to him about, be it a concern or possibly... curiosity about joining? N'mol was nothing if not interested in hearing what others had to say, even Blueriders. It was his job as a Wingleader, after all.

He took the Wingleaders hand in his, "F'iar, sir. Rider of Blue Solath." Taking the spot offered, F'iar's hands reached for the rope that was always on his person. It was strange, calling someone close to, if not the same age, sir. Still it was better to be polite. "I have been thinking of which Wing to join. And while I would like to stick with my friends, I would also like to make new ones."
While not the best way to start, he wanted to get that part out of the way. "We would like to know what you, as Wingleader, would require of us. Before fully deciding to join." Under the table, his fingers were tying the rope in all the different knots that he learned while on the ships.

N'mol nodded to show he understood F'iar's reasoning. Wanting new friends wasn't exactly the best reason to join a wing, but it did seem like something a Bluerider would say. N'mol took it with a grain of salt, especially since F'iar inquired into the duties N'mol expected of them if they were to join. He took a moment to arrange his thoughts and prepare the information he wanted F'iar to know to make an informed decision about his wing choices.
"As a Bluerider you will be required to carry as equal a share of the load as anyone else in the wing. I don't allow for laziness in my riders; if you're given a task, you will be expected to complete it in a reasonable amount of time or deal with the consequences if you don't. I don't give commands that make no sense, unless there is a good and driving reason, so there shouldn't be a time when I give an order you wouldn't be able to follow. If you have doubts at the beginning, than hopefully you will learn to trust me enough in time to know that. We practice two to three times a week to be prepared for Fall. I hold wing meetings generally once every couple of weeks. Attendance is mandatory, with the exception of those riders stuck in the infirmary. Emergencies and the like which would keep you from attending something should be reported to me before the event so I know why you aren't there. The consequence for not attending a practice or meeting without warning is a week's extra solo practice one-on-one with me, for the first offense." N'mol raised his eyebrows and crossed his arms on the table in front of him. "It would not be an easy week of practice, and it is in addition to the normal wing practices. I haven't had to use that punishment yet, and I would like to not start now."
N'mol leaned forward slightly on his crossed arms, gaze still direct. "All of the rules I lay down for my wingriders I follow myself. You will never see me handing work to you that I am not or would not do myself. If you are all practicing, I will be practicing. If you are all working, I will be working. I will generally be working even when the rest of you aren't. You'll still have plenty of free time," he grinned then, lightening the mood somewhat, "but when it comes time for practice or a wing meeting, I will expect attendance and for you and Solath to put your best wing forward. Everyone has a learning curve, mistakes happen, but I'd rather they happened in practice when you first start training with us, than in the air during Fall."
N'mol leaned back, serious again. "I don't run an easy wing. If you're looking to meet new riders, you'll certainly do that. However, you'll be worked harder here than you were in any of the training you did as a Weyrling.
"As far as I as a Wingleader goes, I am fair and I will always be available to listen to your questions or concerns. I'm not a distant Wingleader for the most part." He smiled slightly. "I may not go dicing with you, but I spend time with my wingriders and I eat in the mess the same as the rest of you. I'm not going to bite your head off for having valid concerns, either. If something is bothering you, wing related or not, have Solath contact Tyeth and if I can get away from what I'm doing I will. If I can't, I'll have him arrange a time for us to meet later that day. Anything you have to say to me you can trust will stay between us, if that's what you want. My wing functions on trust and hard work. I can't say that's much different from the other wings, but I'm aware that the view of Benden, even now, tends to be... less than favorable sometimes. We're just another wing, F'iar, filled with riders as dedicated to protecting Pern as any other wing. If you're looking for a supportive but professional wing, you'll certainly find it with the Dawn Fliers."
N'mol looked down at the table for a moment, then smiled as he looked back up. That covered everything he could think of at the moment. "I hope I managed to cover everything. Do you have any questions about what I've said? I know it's a lot to absorb at once, especially since I don't know if I'm the first Wingleader you've spoken to."

He listened intently to N'mol. Completing a task in a reasonable amount of time, not hard to do. Well as long as he didn't get distracted. Meetings, that could be different. F'iar and Solath weren't use to meetings, besides training. By the look, F'iar was getting the feeling he was being tested or thought he would miss a meeting. As much as he might like to, the young rider knew that you can't do that. It looks bad on you and people start to look down.
"Well, sir. Hard work is nothing new to me. Being pushed to do better is a welcome at times. You are the first Wingleader I have talked to. I have listened enough from S'kiro, so I had some idea of what I was coming into. As for questions, only one comes to mind." His hands had stopped twisting and drumming on his leg, for this was sort of important to him. "When a new Weyr is made, and it is for Benden or even Malvren riders, do all of those in the Wings have to go with?"

It wasn't an easy question, but it was one that N'mol had considered, though admittedly not in regards to riders from his wing being from other weyrs. However, he could hardly tell F'iar that they would deal with it when the time came; he deserved a better answer than that. He thought about it for a moment.
"If a new weyr is made, or if we reclaim Benden or Malvren, no one who wanted to stay at Trine would be forced to come with us. It would mean changing to a new wing, obviously, but the circumstances that have thrown us all together have created an unheard of situation. I'm going to look at it from the perspective of transfer riders. When a rider transfers to a new weyr for whatever reason, they leave the weyr and their wing. If we, the Dawn Fliers, move to a new weyr, those who don't move with us would simply change to a new wing following our departure."
F'iar's other comments didn't really need addressing, but it never hurt to make a show of having noticed their considerations and concerns. N'mol smiled. "Did you want to talk to the other wingleaders before making your decision? We'd be happy to have you in the Dawn Fliers, but I wouldn't want to rush you into such an important decision, even with S'kiro's endorsement."
