Leonora stood at the entrance of the park. Since moving to town, the park was definitely her favorite place to be. She had heard rumors that it wasn't a safe place to be at night, with weirdos fighting each other there, but during the day time... All Leonora could do was stand there and take in the fresh air from the trees. She absolutely adored that feeling.
In one hand, she held a picnic basket, filled with about a fourth of a tiramisu cake she had made the evening before as well as some iced tea. The other hand held a blanket, ready to be placed on the ground. Leonora was all for nature, but she did prefer to stay clean as well. She put down the basket next to her feet and the fanned out the red, plaid blanket. When she sat down on the blanket, she flattened out lumpy bits before moving the basket onto the blanket and opening it up.
She pulled out her iced tea first, keeping cool in a thermos. It had cost her a pretty penny and she knew that it would keep her drink cool for her just as much as it would keep it warm if she chose hot tea. Then, carefully, she pulled out her container with the cake. She had made sure that she hadn't swung the basket much at all to keep it as beautiful as she had it last night.
Leonora stared at the tiramisu as she popped off the top. It was messy on the edges because of the knife, but it still looked and definitely smelled delicious. "Perfecting these recipes was definitely a good idea!" She took out a fork and was ready to dig in!

This was probably the very first weekend in awhile that Hafwen had all the time to herself now that she had been given time off from soccer practice for some rest and recreation and having already completed her assignments way before the end of the week came around, she was essentially free to do whatever she wanted so she decided to pay a visit to the park to take in some of the sights and sounds. Been quite awhile since she had the luxury of time to kick back and take things easy like this with the school semester starting up again so she figured that she might as well enjoy it as best as she can.
It was one of those days when the sky was clear and the sun shining over Destiny City made the chilly temperature just about bearable with the occasional wind. Not exactly a fan of crowds, the blue-haired teen had headed directly for the usual spot where she usually practised her shooting at, intending to start from there and then work her way along the path through the various park sections depending on how the crowd situation turned out.
Sticking to the path, she soon found herself in one of the sections of the park frequented by picnickers and with the lovely aroma of food wafting through the air, it didn't take her long to come up with the idea of making it her personal mission to peek at everyone's picnic spread and perhaps take a couple of pictures here and there with the camera she perpetually had with her. Most people had the usual run of the mill picnic items though - sandwiches, fried chicken, lemonade. Nothing really worth ranting and raving over on her blog for sure.
Just as she was about to lament over her situation and start an internal rant about how people nowadays lack creativity and such, she suddenly found her attention snared by the tiramisu cake a lone female picnicker seated on the ground just off to her right was about to tuck into. Now that looked like it would taste really really good. Mmm mm. If she asked really nicely, perhaps this rather nice looking lady wouldn't mind letting her have a small slice to sample as well?
"Um... I hope that this doesn't come across as too sudden but would you mind telling me where you bought that cake from please?" Almost as if to cue her in to the fact that it was about time she started looking for something sumptuous to feed herself with, her stomach decided to do the most embarrassing thing of making its presence known by growling loudly just as she had finished asking her question there and then.
Bummer.

"It's so pretty today!" She thought to herself as she watched as more and more people came into the park. One in particular had a ball with her and was somewhat close to her. Leonora was worried about being at the wrong place, or being in the way, but at the same time, she was hungry and wanted to dig in.
Leonora looked down at the plate in her hand and the cake that sat there. In her other hand was her fork, and was ready to dig in when she saw that the girl she had noticed earlier was headed towards her. She put her cake down and then packed her thermos, ready to move, but what the girl said next surprised her.
"I'm sorry to say, but you actually can't buy this anywhere! At least, I don't think." Leonora smiled. "I actually made this. I make a lot and I usually end up eating them for a few days, but I've never actually sold any."
She patted the ground next to her and picked up the plate again. "I can cut this in half if you want some!" Leonora had heard the girl's stomach rumble, but refrained from embarrassing the girl; she'd rather the girl eat and be content than stand there and continue to be hungry. "Well, that is as long as you're okay taking food from strangers."
Leonora could see was the girl was somewhat young and worried that her parents would be unhappy with her taking food from a stranger. "I'd very much take the first bite if you're thinking it's bad. Just pick a spot on the cake and I'll eat it first!" She laughed again.

Well, it wasn't as if Hafwen had somewhere to go or things to do for the rest of the day so there really wasn't any harm in taking Leonora up on her invitation to sit down with her and have some cake while she was at it. The homemade tiramisu did look pretty delicious after all. "I see. Truth be told, I don't really have any issues with accepting food from someone I don't know like yourself. I would like to try some if it is really alright with you though."
Moving to sit herself down on the ground next to the older female, she retrieves the digital camera from her bag with a smile, thankful for the lack of mention of the rumbling sound that came from her stomach earlier on. She was pretty sure that Leonora must have heard it so her tactfulness in handling the potentially embarrassing issue is greatly appreciated on her part. "Is it alright with you if I take a picture of the cake first before you actually cut it by the way?"
Now that Leonora had mentioned it, it didn't really occur to her that there could be danger associated with taking food from a stranger like herself. She figured that it was fine since she was a female too. Plus it wasn't every day that someone would do something like that to a stranger with a rumbling tummy like hers. If it was a man on the other hand, she might be more liable to take his offer with a huge pinch of salt.

"Glad there's no problem! Promise it's more delicious than anything." Leonora could remember the girl's stomach loud rumble and could feel hers craving a bit of attention. "Soon," she thought to herself. "There's plenty of nice rum and goodness even after it's shared!"
Leonora was about slice the cake when the girl mentioned taking a picture of it. "Of course you may! I'd have to say this isn't the best looking piece since it was a carrying box before this, but..." She lifted up the cake to her eye level and turned it around until the best side was facing the girl. "How's this side for a picture?"
"Oh yeah! I'm Leonora by the way, Leonora Shoup." She was a bit hesitant to mention her last name, more so because she hated what it sounded like, but Leonora wanted to try her best to reassure the girl that she was a safe person to be around.

"It's alright. Really... you don't have to..." It really would have been fine with Hafwen if she got a picture of the cake as it was, having already troubled Leonora so much so to the point that even someone like her was starting to feel a little self conscientious. All she wanted was a picture to commemorate this particular occasion. Maybe post a short blurb about her encounter with the older female in the park today on her blog.
That didn't mean that she wasn't appreciative of Leonora's efforts in first accommodating her seemingly out of the blue request for a picture of what they were about to tuck into together followed by her attempt at ensuring that she got the best possible shot of the cake slice. "Mmm... that's fine. Thanks." Checking the camera to ensure that it was in Auto Focus mode, she pushed the button to take a snapshot then another for good measure in case she messed it up somehow.
"Hafwen. Hafwen Goodall. Thank you for all of this." Sliding the camera back into its portable case before returning it to her bag, she gave Leonora a smile, nodding her head slowly a few times as she gave her self introduction followed by the reason behind her peculiar behaviour. "I un... just have a habit of taking pictures of all the sumptuous food that I've had the chance of having so far. Sorry about that." She figured that she had the right to know after putting up with all her antics all this while.

"Don't worry about it! I really don't mind at all!" Leonora held the plate as still as she could as she watched Hafwen take the picture. "I hope you don't mind my hand being in the picture. Hope it is at least pretty in the picture!"
Once the pictures were done, Leonora relaxed her arms and pulled out the cap of the container she had the tiramisu in earlier. She cut the piece, giving a little more to Hafwen and moving the smaller piece onto the container top for herself. Leonora pulled out an extra fork (she always had one in case one got dirty) from her basket.
"It's nice to meet you Hafwen. Now, it's time to tell me if it looks as tasty as it looks! I'm going to to always say it's delicious because, well, I've made this many times and have made it better each time. But as the cook, I'll always be biased to the stuff I make!" She laughed as she scooted over on her blanket and made sure there was enough room for Hafwen before patting the blanket. "Come sit and enjoy!"

"It's alright. Gives the picture an artistic flair." Hafwen quipped amusedly with a wink the moment Leonora mentioned about her hand being in the pictures she just took. Taking the container and the fork that were handed to her, she couldn't help but notice the disparity between the pieces of cake meant for her and the teal haired female, a brow lifting at her own observation though she made no mention of it as she reached for the fork next. "I think the rumbly in my tummy already said it all but... bon appétit!"
Stretching her legs out on the blanket before tucking them beneath herself, she held the container up to her face so that she could take a whiff of the faint aroma that was coming from it then used the fork to help herself to a serving of the tasty treat. "Mmm... it's delicious! Just the right amount of coffee, chocolate and liquor such that each of them complements the other flavours nicely without being overpowering. Good. Good."

Leonora smiled at what Hafwen said, despite the fact that she really didn't understand what her hand added to the picture. The only thing she really did that was artistic was her jewelry pieces, and even then, it was usually just pendants. "I'm glad you think so. I'm not very good with photography," she told Halfwen.
She watched as Hafwen sat beside her and took the piece of cake Leonora offered. As Hafwen took her first fork-full, Leonora followed suit, enjoying the flavors that danced on her tongue. She was also glad to hear that Hafwen was enjoying herself.
"I'm really glad you like it! I'm only good at making things that involve some sort of alcohol. It's odd, really. Like... My spaghetti and marinara sauce never really taste quite right, but I can make delicious steak sauces that have wines in them... Though it feels a bit odd mentioning alcohol with you, since you're still underage..."

Hafwen didn't see any problem really with being herself in Leonora's presence now that the initial awkwardness between them was more or less out of the way. Setting the fork on the plate, she took a brief moment to flick her hair back behind her shoulder lest it got into the way of her enjoying the other's cake, flashing a polite smile at the older female before picking up her fork again. "Neither am I really to be honest. But I don't really care about people's opinions on my pictures since it's my way of sharing with my friends my various life experiences."
Taking a small mouthful of the cake, there was a thoughtful expression on her face next when Leonora shared her own observations when it came to her own cooking by far. "Hmm... that's a little odd. Could it be that you personally prefer things with some alcohol in them in the first place?" While she was no self professed expert when it came to creating dishes out of their raw ingredients, she figured that it would make some sense that people tend to be better at things that they enjoyed to begin with.
It wasn't really in her nature to be upfront with others as to her father's occupation but she couldn't really help taking a tongue in cheek potshot at Leonora's comment when she next mentioned about her being obviously underage when it came to the age limit on alcohol consumption. "Hywell... my dad's a police detective by the way, but no you're not going to be in any trouble. I don't see anything criminal with the way this conversation is going really." She didn't take any offense at all with the teal haired female's words of course. It was just her own quirky way of telling her that it was fine to talk about alcohol used in cooking since that was considered separate from alcohol consumption and all the bad things linked to it that everyone from Hywell to her school teachers would take every opportunity to preach to her and her friends about.

"Pictures are a really good way to record life," Leonora said with a nod. She had to admit most of her life went without photographs, but remembered that her mother used to like to paint portraits. "I probably don't have many pictures of myself growing up. My mother liked to paint portraits and was a wonderful artist, but... By the time she finished one at one point in my life, she would have to start another already!"
She didn't mention the fact that there wasn't very many because her mother passed away along time ago. Her father wasn't much help either since looking at Leonora reminded him of his beloved wife. Those paintings, however, was cherished deeply by Leonora. They were safe and hung up in her home just for remembrance.
Leonora smiled at Hafwen. "Well, most of the alcohol is burned out with cooking, but it helps bring out the flavor in some foods. Like this dessert for example! There's a bit of flavor from the rum, but the mascarpone and lady fingers really pop... So delicious!"
Her mind wandered away just a little bit at all the delicious alcohol related food and desserts she's had recently. It was definitely on the 'took much' side of things.
"Well, I'm glad you're okay with it!" She laughed, hoping she didn't ruin the mood with her questioning Hafwen's age. "Your father raised you well, if that counts for anything!"baby_gwing ((Hey! I know it's been a while, and if you don't want to continue this, that's fine! Just write up an exit post so it'll be easier to keep track of, if anything <3 Thanks for your patience ;w; <333))

"Indeed they are, especially in this day and age." Hafwen quipped, agreeing wholeheartedly with Leonora as she began to reminisce over her own mother and lament inwardly over the miserable few pictures she had to complement her memories of her back from when she was still a young child. Perhaps there was more to her current amateurish interest in photography than she herself thought.
"Real life portraits you say? That's amazing. So how many in total have she painted of you by now?" Photographs were one thing. Now paintings were another entirely in her opinion, especially when one considered the amount of effort and time it took to complete a piece relatively speaking and that showed with the admiration reflected within her eyes.
"Indeedy. Tiramisu won't be tiramisu if not for the taste of the rum in it." She smiled, her expression going pensive as she gave a shrug at the mention of her paternal parent figure next. "Hywell... I suppose he did what he could even if it borders on the edge of sheer negligence..." There was a tinge of resentment laced within her words, almost as if she was conflicted with herself with regards to how she should view the matter of her own upbringing when she had been pretty much left on her own most of the time all things considered.
ATh e a r t Aww... don't worry about it heart. I'll love to continue this in fact though I'm still as slow as ever with how RL has been lately. ^^;

"I have... A handful." Leonora didn't really want to dampen the mood of the day with the delicious dessert in front of them. "Remember, my mother was quite." She smiled and winked. In truth, she actually got one for every birthday her mother was alive for. There was 6 of them completed and hanging in her living room while there was one hidden away. Her mother had started, but never finished, that one. Leonora never had the heart to throw it out.
Leonora could tell that Hafwen was a bit irate at the thought of parents. "Well, you can always contact me now if you need anything?" She put down her cake and rummaged through her bag before pulling out a business card. "Here's where I work and you can always stop by! If I don't have anyone scheduled, I can always give you a free massage!"
She pulled out a pen and wrote down her cellphone number. "And just in case, you can have my cell number if you need someone to talk to or help with anything." Leonora smiled. "There's always the prospect of having more desserts too!"
