User ImageArchiteuthis floated lazily in the current, watching bits of kelp and small fish float around him. He'd just finished a fine meal consisting of both and was now relaxing to let it digest. He'd left the coral reef to return back to the waters surrounding the small island of the herd that had taken him in. While he didn't feel he fit with them, it was a comfort that they accepted his appearance.

The stallion turned a little so he could look up at the surface of the water, eyes the color of the water around him watching the sun dance on the waves. It was shaping up to be a rather nice day. He hadn't ran into anyone that would question what he was, hadn't had to hide from two-leggers out trying to catch the same creatures he fed on. Yes, it was a good day....and a lonely one. Days like this he missed having someone to talk to.

Archi turned away from the sunlight, swimming to bottom to lie against the sand. He watched a crab scuttle along, wondering if he had somewhere important to be. He sighed and spread his tentacles out behind him, relaxing and letting the current play in his hair. He defiantly needed to come back to this area more. It was quiet and lulling.

User ImageIt was a miserable day.

Well, actually, it wasn't. It wasn't at all. It was beautiful and sunny and warm, but to Unnr that was most certainly a miserable day. She felt miserable, and she wanted the damn world to reflect that, not defy her like it was doing. She stalked along the water's edge, too upset to even swim. It had been ages since she had seen Anzu. Obviously it was because he was too busy with his little mistress. The very thought of her made Unnr furious. How dare he abandon her for that.. that... whore! She was better, far better. Anzu should have known better.

Lost in her wallowing, Unnr didn't realize there were any other horses anywhere near her. And that was a good thing, because she likely wouldn't have treated them very well, especially if they were ground horses or especially winged horses. She would tear their wings from them, feather by feather!

Archi noticed the hooves at the edge of the water. He wondered if this was part of the herd that had taken him in. He really did want to socialize a little with them. The stallion gave a little push off the sand bed and surfaced to greet the stranger. He was surprised by the mare, "Hello? Are you part of the herd?"

User ImageUnnr was taken by surprise when the mer popped out of the water, and she didn't like being taken by surprise. She jumped back, a snarl on her snout.

"Herd? What herd," she asked, her eyes narrowed at him. He wasn't a threat to her, he couldn't walk on land. She could merely walk away from him.

"The..naga? Two males that looked like you asked me to join their herd, for the naga. They said my...appearance wasn't an issue."

He lifted his tentacles up out of the water as an explanation, "Aren't you part of them? You're a naga, right?

"I do not belong to a herd," Unnr sneered, her tail lashing around at the very thought. Her, in a herd! She would not be confined to one area, and be stuck seeing the same repulsive faces every day. There was only one horse that she wanted to see frequently, and as of this moment, she didn't want to see him either. She just wanted to be left alone.

"I don't know what you're talking about." She eyed his tentacles, brow furrowed. She'd never seen anything like that before on a horse. Interesting.

"My mistake," Archi dropped his tentacles back into the water, glancing about. He looked up at the mare, then indicated some land a few clicks away from the shore. "There is a herd on the island there. They call themselves naga, and they mostly all look like you. I don't mean that in offense, just...they have the same features."

The stallion glanced at the island, then back to Unnr. "I don't really stick close to them or their land...I like to visit the coral reef to eat. Best fish you can get. So, I'm never sure who is part of their group. I don't consider myself in the herd, but sometimes it's nice to not be gawked at..."

Unnr's gaze followed Archi's tentacle as he point in the direction of the island. A herd of Soquili like her... Perhaps she should go there and check it out. She'd abandoned the idea of a herd long ago when Anzu abandoned her for the whore, but perhaps it wouldn't be such a bad idea.

No.

She wouldn't depend on anyone ever again.

The squid horse was still speaking, so Unnr turned her eyes to him again. "Why don't you consider yourself part of the herd if they extended the invitation to you?"

"Don't really fit with them, do I? With the tentacles and not being able to walk on land," Archi shrugged, digging at the sand with his hooves. "I also don't resign myself to just this area. I have a larger territory that I swim in, and I prefer the deeper waters to rest in."

He glanced at the mare, "Why haven't you been invited to the herd? Surely you must be related to them somehow...aren't you?"

"I suppose not," Unnr said, raising an eyebrow at Archi's tenticles and general squishy appearence. She didn't think there were too many Soquili that the squid mer would fit in with. He was certainly an unique specimen.

"I don't know," she said, shrugging her shoulders. "I guess perhaps because I don't spend much time in this area. I guess I haven't met them." No, she was from far from here, in a very different herd. But those days were over now.

"Maybe...you could meet them. See what they're like?" The stallion suggested, still digging at the sand to unearth a light green shell. "They accepted me....surely they'd love to meet you."

He pushed the shell along the sand until it was near her hooves. "So...where do you come from that you've never seen the others?"
