As he walked into the Pokemart, Nicolas looked around for a moment to see who was or wasn't around. Aside from the shopkeeper and himself, the trainer couldn't see anyone else in the store, at least from the entrance. He figured most of the regular customers were busy sleeping, given how late it was. Either that or they were off training. That just makes this a bit easier. he thought to himself as he swung his backpack off one of his shoulders so he could dig through the main pocket. It didn't take him long to pull out what he was looking for, a fairly plain package with the Devon Corp. logo on it, the package it took him a while to manage to fit into the bag without the darn thing getting damaged.
After zipping back up his backpack, hefting it back into its proper position, and making sure the package wouldn't fall or something stupid like that, Nicolas made his way through the store to the front counter. "Oh, hey! That was quick," the shopkeeper said when he noticed the dark-haired trainer. Nicolas gave a chuckle as his reply as he walked up to the counter. "Yeah, well, I figured there was no reason for either of us to stay up any later than we have to, you know?" he explained, getting a slight chuckle in return from the shopkeeper.
"Anyway, here's the promotional items you ordered," he said, handing the shopkeeper the package. Nicolas then had a slight look of disappointment on his face. "Quite honestly, I'm a bit surprised. I'd have expected you to need a bit more of them than what fits in that box," the trainer said, tilting his head slightly. Even with what sort of item it was, it was still a fairly small box compared to what would normally be brought out.
The shopkeeper sighed and shook his head before looking back at Nicolas. "Yeah, well, it seems like there are fewer and fewer people taking the league challenge out in this region. Even fewer of them make it to the point where they would be anywhere near here," the man explained, a slight frown on his face. "I mean, don't get me wrong. The hot springs are more than enough to draw people here and bring me some business. Plenty of tourists. There just aren't too many trainers taking the league challenge that come out here is all," the man continued, a somewhat disappointed look on his face.

Smiling the brunette entered the pokemart. She was humming a tune whilst a budew followed behind her like a puppy. She was only just browsing. Only just. But as she turned she smiled some more to notice someone was actually in Lavaridge. "Hi! How are you?" She asked. There was so much she wanted to ask but so little she wanted to be known about. The Budew behind her seemed to jump around happily at seeing someone new.
The brunette was trying not to seem too weird or too formal or forwards. So she would wait. She would wait until he responded. She smiled just unable to contain herself. Although, it was kind of odd that someone was actually in the little town anymore. Most trainers were off in other regions.

Nicolas nodded at the last comments the shopkeeper made. "Yeah, things have definitely changed..." the trainer mused as the shopkeeper took the package to the back to unpack the contents. The dark-haired trainer then turned around when he heard someone greeting him, smiling when he saw the dark-haired young woman. "Ah, hello there. I'm a little tired, but otherwise fine. How about you? Enjoying the evening?" he replied, a bit of laughter in his voice.
He then looked down and noticed a little Budew jumping around behind the girl. Nicolas knelt down and gave the energetic baby grass type a smile before he spoke again. "I'm guessing this little bundle of cheery energy belongs to you, miss," he said as he looked back up at the young woman, laughing a bit. Although, at that, he had to wonder why this woman was up so late and if his own hyper little bundle of fun had anything at all to do with that. Then again, maybe he had just missed the woman when he came in and she was already in the shop looking for stuff. Either way, he figured he needed to check up on Quartz soon, plus call in and report that he had finished his delivery so he could officially start his vacation.
((OOC: Heh, sorry about the lengthy delay. sweatdrop I had to go scrub my grandmother's floor and bathtub for a bit.))

Shayna continued to smile brightly as he spoke."Really? Did you travel far? Is that why you are tired? I'm fine. I should suppose so, was hoping that maybe the shop had some berries for my pokemon. They won't eat what I make for supper unless they get a pokeblock..." She said with a sigh of annoyance. But it was quickly gone as he looked at Doodle.
"Yep. Her name is Doodle. I'm Shayna. Nice to meet you." She said cocking her head slightly to one side. Doodle seemed to be scrutinizing him a little before letting him pet her. She was kind of curious. But at the sound of what she hoped was her trainer saying the word berries, the grass type jumped around some more excitedly. Shayna was about to look around when her pokegear started buzzing. She pulled it out and watched this... Team solstice talk about how they have captured a mew. She glanced at Doodle for a second before giggling. "Doodle! We are officially going on an adventure!"

Nicolas chuckled slightly as he looked up at the woman from his kneeling position. "Oh, not too far, just from Rustburo. I'm mostly tired because of how late it is, and it doesn't help that I need to get up early in the morning, either," he replied, then chuckled at her little problem with her Pokemon eating dinner. "Ah, I see. Quartz usually gives me the same problem," he replied, not able to help but laugh afterwards, given how amusing, at least for him and his Vibrava, it could be to persuade her to eat her dinner before going for the Pokeblocks.
"My name's Nicolas. It's nice to meet you, Shayna," he greeted with a cheery grin, not at all bothered by the fact that the little Budew was looking him over. "Nice to meet you, too, Doodle," he said with a kind smile towards the Budew before reaching out to give the baby grass Pokemon a light stroke on the little Pokemon's head, being careful to avoid messing with the bud on the very top. He wasn't too familiar with Budew, but he knew enough about Roselia that they could be a bit testy, to put it mildly, concerning their flowers when someone they didn't know was messing with them, so he figured the same would most likely be true for the bud of the little baby Pokemon.
Nicolas pulled back and stood up when Doodle started bouncing around again and was about to say something else when he heard his Pokegear start to ring. He quickly pulled out the device and answered it, thinking it might have been someone from work since he still needed to check in, and was surprised at what the call really was. The normally cheery trainer's expression hardened slightly as he silently watched the message, and one it was over, Nicolas took a somewhat deep breath before smiling slightly at the the girl's reaction.
"Say, Shayna..." he started, wondering how best to put his question without sounding like some creepy old guy or something. "Would it be alright with you if I accompanied you?" he asked, though he was mentally chastising himself for how lame his question sounded. "Two people will probably be better than one for something like this, and it might be a learning experience for the both of us," he offered as an explanation, though, in truth, he just didn't want to be searching on his own. Sure, he'd have his Pokemon with him, and he was confident he'd be able to handle just about anyone he encountered... As long as they came in ones or twos. Much more than that at once, though, and he'd want some help in case things got too rough.

Shayna watched as he pet Doodle lightly. Being careful of the buds on it's head. "Well, I'm actually from here. Lavaridge Town. I like like two minutes down the road." She said and picked up the squirming Budew. She listened as he also seemed to get the strange call. She looked down at Budew. "What do you think Doodle? Should we make a team?" She asked the pokemon. Doodle looked at Nicolas again and started making sounds. "Bu bu! Ude Ude Dew! Budew dew!"
"I should think that's a yes. Alright, and since you are tired maybe you should stay the night at my house and we can set off in the morning? Don't worry, my dad never comes home and I'm sure that Carter won't be too mad." She said with a grin. Her other three pokemon were at home either sleeping or playing. "So your pokemon are also stubborn about pokeblocks too? I think I might have some extra pokeblocks at home... Just only Doodle and Sapphire like the pink... And those are the only ones I have left." She said with an awkward smile before heading towards the door and waiting to see if he was coming or not.

Nicolas smiled briefly as Shayna explained that she was from Lavaridge and that her house was fairly close by, then chuckled at Doodle's acceptance of his idea of the two trainers teaming up. He then thought a bit about the girl's suggestion that they wait until morning before setting out. After mentally debating the pros and cons of the option, he sighed before nodding at the girl. "Thank you for the offer, it's probably a good idea, especially since we don't know where to even start looking yet," he replied with a slight smile.
Nicolas then tilted his head a touch at another comment Shayna had made. "Carter? Who is he, your brother?" he asked, genuine curiosity in his voice. He didn't want to risk things being taken the wrong way by an overprotective family member or lover. Also, like I said, Quartz tends to be a bit set in her ways about Pokeblocks. The other three are much better about it." he replied with a chuckle. "And yes, pink should be just fine," he reassured the girl with a smile, then headed towards the door with her.
He gave a sheepish smile as he paused at the door. "Uh, if you'd give me a few minutes, there are a couple of things I need to get taken care of," he requested, rubbing the back of his head in embarrassment. "I have to give my boss a call so he doesn't get too concerned about me not checking in, plus I have to actually meet back up with my Vibrava," he explained, chuckling a bit at the last part. "I let her fly around a bit while I was busy taking care of things in here. Hopefully she hasn't gotten into any trouble in the meantime..." he muttered, then chuckled again.

At the question of if Carter was her brother, Shayna almost couldn't control her laughter. Instead it came out as a giggle. "He's not my brother. You'll see when you meet him. And sure go ahead. I'll be outside." She said with a smile as she headed outside.

Nicolas raised an eyebrow when Shayna started giggling and said that the mysterious Carter wasn't her brother. Ouch, made the amateur mistake of calling someone's boyfriend her brother. Well, I suppose I can apologize after I meet him. he thought as he mentally winced, though he kept a cheery exterior as he grinned at the young woman. "Alright, this shouldn't take more than a couple of minutes. Oh, and-" he started to ask the woman, but she had already left. Sighing, Nicolas selected one of the saved numbers on his Pokegear as he leaned against the wall.
The phone rang briefly before his boss picked it up. "Hey, it's me, Nick. Huh? Yeah, I heard. I think everyone heard that," he said, sighing afterwards. After a pause, he quickly shook his head. "No, no, I'm fine. Wherever it's happening, it doesn't seem to be around Lavaridge. What about the other couriers? Have they heard anything yet?" Another pause, then a somewhat disappointed look came over Nick's face. "Well, if that's the case, then maybe it's not happening in Hoenn at all? If it was, one of us would have stumbled across it, right?"
After another pause, Nicolas managed to keep himself from so much as snickering, though he couldn't hide the predatory grin that came across his face. "Now, do I really seem like the sort of person that would do something like that?" he asked, then winced slightly and moved the Pokegear away from him briefly as the second half of the conversation quickly became much more audible. After sighing and rolling his eyes while still having a large grin on his face, Nicolas put the Pokegear back to where he could continue speaking with the person on the other end. "Look, I swear, I won't do anything that will get me killed, maimed, or badly injured. Can't promise any better than that, considering what my vacation was going to be for in the first place," he said with an amused look on his face, then chuckled.
"See you in a few months, boss," he said as an ending to the call, then, after his employer gave his reply, hung up the phone and clipped the Pokegear back where it belonged. Sorry, but I'm afraid I'm gonna have to get involved anyway. Don't worry, though... I wasn't lying about avoiding getting tossed around too badly. he thought with a smirk, then headed outside to join Shayna.
