It was interesting how it never got entirely stifling or boring regardless of the number of times that Hafwen went about practising her shooting in the park. Set the soccer ball down on the grassy patch, take a few steps back, picture the goal and the goalkeeper standing in front of it in her mind, break into a dash as she dribbled towards it before snapping her foot back so as to give the decisive kick that would send it past the keeper and into the net. Rinse and repeat.
Change the speed and angle of her approach, vary between which foot she should use to aim for the goal, keep her actions unpredictable to the goalkeeper and the defenders. The permutations and possibilities really were endless and she wanted to go through the combinations that worked often times enough such that her body would know how to react even before she had even conscientiously thought about it.
This part of the park was perfect and frequented by her in fact. Hardly anyone would be in its immediate vicinity so she needn't worry about accidentally hitting someone with a stray shot. The only problem however would have to be the road looping around it and there had been the occasional shot that required her to head there in order to retrieve the soccer ball.
Like the one she just sent in that exact same direction just because she briefly lost her focus for a split second there.
Irritated at herself for the disruption to her practice routine, she flicked her wrist to check the time, realizing that it was already close to dinner time as she crossed the road to retrieve the ball without paying any attention to any traffic that might be coming her way.

Melinda was on her way back to her dorm room as she stopped at the park. It was always her favorite place to hang out, and even not this wasn't different. Pausing, she glance around just as a soccer ball comes her way. Blinking her green eyes, she bends down to pick it up as she looks around.
She didn't know if it was the blue curls, or the fact the soccer ball that clued her in. But she knew the person crossing the street without looking. Quickly darting out, she wraps her arms around the wrist of the girl before she pulls her onto the street where she was "Hafwen! Are you insane, you could have been hit!" she was looking over her former friend from the academy.
She knew her since her Junior year at the academy, they met over soccer. Having left the school now, it was nice to see the girl was still into soccer. Even if she was being careless.

People come and go in life. Hafwen had learnt to accept and come to terms with that, but that didn't stop the goofy grin that almost immediately sprang onto her face upon recognition of the voice behind the lightly chastising tone Melinda was using on her. The older girl did have her best interests at heart after all.
"Melinda? Oh my gosh. It's really you! How have you been all this while?" With a soft chuckle, she moved to gently remove her wrist from the older female's grip, her left foot lifting a little so that she could tap the tip of her shoe on the pavement behind her, her contralateral hand rising to scratch lightly at the back of her neck at the same instant.
"Ah... you know me and my tendency to space out whenever it comes to all things related to soccer. Besides, this stretch tends to be pretty quiet on the whole..."

Mel blinks a few times at Hafwen before it dawns on her, lifting a brown curl. With a small chuckle, she remembers that many remember her as a blond, so the brown curls would be a shock to anyone who seen her at the academy, With a small shrug, she smiles to her younger friend "Yea, had been, hasn't it? I'm good, getting use to college life actually. Decided to try out a new look, though I might keep this." pushing her curls from her face, she shakes her head at Hafwen.
"Yes I do, that why I worry about you sometimes. And sometimes, but not all the time. You really need to be careful. I rather not find out something happen to you okay?" picking up the soccer ball, she holds it in one arm as she smirks at her "So still playing I see? Not for the academy though?" she always hope that one day she would, as she knew the school would do so well if she was on the team.

"So how do you find college compared to the academy? Met any cute guys so far?" College was something that was pretty far down the pipe line for Hafwen at this point of course. However, that didn't mean that she couldn't think about it and how it would factor into her own plans for the future. Craning her neck back a little to look Melinda up and down, the blue-haired teen slid her hand from her neck to tap a finger on her chin as she smiled at her older friend.
"Looks good on you really. Sure you're not doing this because a boy you fancy happens to have a soft spot for brunettes?" She wasn't really that concerned about boys at this juncture of her life to be honest, but that didn't conversely mean that she was unable to hold her own in a conversation on the topic in question or tease her friends about the boys they fancied and the length to which they were willing to go to in order to attract the other party's attention.
"Heard you loud and clear here." She really appreciated the other's concern truth be told. It was always nice to know that someone out there actually gave a hoot as to what happened to her if she went a little overboard and failed to look out for herself. "Yeah. Not for the academy though I'm afraid. Am already barely making the grade in order to keep my scholarship so fitting any more practice sessions, as much as I love the sport itself, onto my schedule will probably be unwise."

Mel couldn't help but chuckle at Hafwen's question. Not that she didn't mind them, it was actually sweet to know someone was curious about how she was doing. With a smile, she shrugs a little before she grins even more "College life is actually similar to the academy, minus the curfew and uniforms. I like it to say the least, not to mention my classes are pretty wicked." she pauses when it comes to the next question "I met one guy, he pretty sexy. And no I'm not doing this for any guy. I needed a change from my look."
Flicking one of Hafwen's blue curls, she smirks at her "Plus its college, a chance to discover myself. So why not try something new?" with a cheeky smile, she crossed her arms as she nods a little at Hafwen's confession. She knew that all to well, and yet she managed to graduate from the academy.
"Just don't let your grades slip below a C. I was on scholarship too remember? And I managed to do it, so I think you can as well." pushing her own brown curls from her face, she grins at her.

"No curfew and uniforms? I won't be surprised if some of the girls in my class start parading around in those tight tees and shorts that seem to be the rage these days. Show off their cleavages and legs then hopefully bag a guy or two. You know how it's like back at the academy..." Hafwen personally preferred wearing uniforms to be honest. It made everyone... uniform which meant that that was one thing less she had to worry about when it came to picking an outfit to don for the day. Well, it looked like that was something she would have no choice but to concern herself with when she got there.
"Wicked classes you say? And what's this about a sexy guy you've met? I'm going to have to request for details here." She reached out with a finger to prod Mel's side, a look of immense interest on top of a smirk that was already starting to form on her face as she waited for the now brunette to fill her in. "That is true. You only get to live once after all." Tilting her head to the side, she shrugged a little before elaborating some on her plans for the future. "Yeah. I'm trying to stay on top nonetheless though. Gonna try to score myself another scholarship for college so dad doesn't have to fret any about the tuition and all."

Mel tries not to laugh at the image that popped into her head at Hafwen's comment. When she thought about it, many did that once they got out of high school and were able to go off and do their own thing. With a small shake of her head, she smiles "Just as long as you don't do that, you know, don't follow everyone else." she smirks as she glance around for brief moment.
"Come on, lets get back to the park, then we can talk more." she was trying to avoid the talk about guys, cause she wasn't sure what she could say. Carefully moving across the street towards the park, she chuckles for a moment "Make sense, I mean with the cost and all. Knowing you though, I can see you doing it without a shadow of a doubt." she beams at her before she moves over to the bench.
"So beside school, what else have you been doing?"

"Me? Showing off my buxom in the hope of hooking up with a guy without poking his eyes out first? Nah." Hafwen waved her hand dismissively at Mel's remark, knowing confidently that the brunette had nothing to worry really should it come to something like that. She wasn't one for following trends in the first place after all.
Casting her gaze on the still pretty much empty road, she crossed the street after her friend, letting her make the decision with regards to which part of the park she intended to head to now. "I wouldn't really be so optimistic since it's an academic scholarship that I'll be gunning for. But I probably should sit down and figure out at some point what I intend to major in unless things have changed and the universities have decided to offer soccer as a subject."
She quipped, an amused expression playing on her face as she took a seat on the bench and patted the seat next to her so as to get Mel to join her. "Not much at the moment really. Quiet season for the club I'm playing for though it won't be long before things pick up again when the new season starts. How about you?"

Mel couldn't help but chuckle at Hafwen's comment. Of course she wouldn't do that, as she wasn't' that kind of girl. This made her smile though, as it was one last thing she had to worry about when it came to her friend. Moving over tot he bench, she takes a seat before she crossed her legs for a moment. "School mostly at the moment, trying to just get use to all my classes. Music classes aren't as easy as I thought they would be. Not that I mind really, as I love them." it was true, as she was able to continue what she loves the most. Giving Hafwen a glance, she smirks for a moment "So seriously, no guy has caught your attention at all? Really? You should at least find one guy cute or something." she was only poking at her, because she could. To Mel, Hafwen was like the little sister she never had.

Hafwen nodded, deciding to put in her own two cents on the matter. "Things like this aren't going to just fall from the sky and drop into your lap. So long as you hang onto that thought and your passion for it, I have no doubt that you'll succeed eventually." It was the same for her when it came to soccer really. It felt as if she was born for the sole purpose of playing the sport. Not that things were easy for she knew that she still had a long way to go if she intended to pursue it full time and eventually make the cut for the national team. It was her own love for it that enabled her to persist and get to where she was today.
Shrugging her shoulders, she gave a soft sigh at Mel's question, smiling wryly at the same time. "Honestly? No. I don't really get what's the big deal with guys Mel. I already have my hands full cleaning up the messes created by the one at home whom I'm indebted to for my existence." She stopped for a bit, wondering offhandedly if she had sounded resentful or bitter when she chose to drag Hywel into the conversation matter. "I'm not sure if I want to assume responsibility for another just because I find him cute..."

Mel just chuckles as she listens to Hafwen, knowing what she meant. She didn't really understand the big deal about guys either. Then she met Lucas and that changed for her, and she realized maybe it was okay to have a guy in her life. She thought for a moment, about the couple of boys that she found cute on campus, but brushes that off for now "You'll understand when the guy for you is thrown in your lap." she winks before she place her hands on the back of her neck.
"You know, I forgot how much fun it was to hang around you. Its too bad your younger then me. We would probably be awesome roommates at DCU." living on her own had its advantages, but in the end she was alone.

"Maybe. But I highly doubt that there is even such a guy out there." Hafwen shrugged again, still not entirely warming up to the idea of accommodating another male presence in her life. Life was already hectic enough for her as it was between her studies, soccer and making time for Mercy and some of her closer friends. The hassles and commitment required to maintain a relationship just weren't worth it in her opinion. Not at this point of her life at least though she was pretty sure that her stand on it wouldn't change one bit within the next decade or two.
"Could say the same for you too. Things haven't exactly been the same back at Crystal ever since you graduated. We should meet up more often. Make up for lost time." She put in her two cents worth, smiling wryly at the memories of the times that they had spent together back when Mel was still a student at Crystal Academy. It was a shame but she supposed that she could at least be glad for the fact that their paths had crossed at some point in their respective lives. Suddenly remembering something, she pulled out her phone, retrieving her contact list as she spoke at the same instant. "Speaking of which... I don't suppose that we've got each other's numbers, do we?"

Melinda didn't really know how to explain it to Hafwen, so instead she just smiles to her. She knew if anything, the right guy for her would surprise her. She was a hopeless romantic and believe that there was someone for everyone out there. It was just having to find one another.
"You know, your more then welcome to come stay with me for a weekend on campus. Get to see what its like for at least one weekend. Its honestly not that bad, and I'm really not that into the party scene too much. But I could show you all the pretty sweet places to hang out, and where to go when you just wanna get away from dorm life." this happen to her way to often to count.
Pulling out her own phone, she flips through her contact only to frown. She didn't have Hafwen's number, how did she not have it?! No matter, this was about to change.
Holding her phone out to her, she nods "Making up for lost time would be great. You can tell me how much Crystal has changed since I graduated"

"You sure about that? I mean, is it against the dorm rules or something? I don't want to get you into trouble or anything just because of this." Glancing down at her contact list, Hafwen frowned, both at the possibility of getting Mel into hot soup if the weekend sleepover she was proposing would count as a breach of the rules at DCU and at the missing entry where Mel's number ought to have been in her phone. Curious how she had allowed that to happen in the first place only to just realize it right here and now.
"Certainly. You wouldn't believe some of the crazy rules that they've now put in place because people were stupid enough to get caught for various things." She took the older girl's phone, handing her own over at the same time before she went on to add her name and number as a new entry. "Hmm... this wouldn't happen to contain any scandalous pictures of you or your boyfriend naked or... le gasp doing naughty things now. Would it?" She mused, a wicked glint reflected in her gaze when she glanced up at Mel next.
