 Name: Raine Constantine
Nickname: N/A at the moment.
Age: 19
Birthday: June 08th
Sign: Gemini
Gemstone: Pearl.
Blood Type: AB
Fav. Food: Shrimp
Hated Food: Instant Noodles
School: Destiny City University
Hobbies: xxxxxCostuming - Raine has almost no hips to speak of, and she basically couldn't be any flatter-chested; in embracing her lack of ladylike parts, she took up costuming after netting a part in a school performance when she was younger. The performance made her realize that she really enjoyed dressing up as other characters. She can't sew terribly well, though she has become better at taking things in (not so good at letting things out, though). Basically this hobby revolves mostly around collecting costume pieces, studying different styles of costuming, and then picking up any activity that allows her to use these costumes. Online, she maintains a male persona using her costuming hobby. Crossplaying is a personal favourite; she started at conventions, but every time she removed her crossplay she felt an overwhelming sense of disappointment and discomfort: How could that be her real appearance? Her normal code of dress and style began to shift until her current state, in which she maintains a male persona whenever possible in all areas of her life.
xxxxxReading - [[Poetry, specifically]] Raine spends a good deal of time in the library, and the only thing she loves more than nonfiction is poetry. She pours hours into studying and memorizing all kinds of poetry forms and delights in reciting them for listeners. Sometimes, if she doesn't have the words to express something, she'll employ this hobby in conversation. The more latin or french in the poetry, the better! She has only a cursory knowledge of latin, and as such must translate anything she reads with the help of dictionaries and translation tools. French, however, she learned from her mother at a young age as it was her mother's first language; she never put in the effort to become as fluent as her mother, lacking certain turn of phrases or natural colloquialisms, but she does speak it well and as such can translate poetry more or less on her own. Some words she must still look up.
xxxxxFencing - Although Raine would love to spend all her time in the library, she was encouraged as a child to pick up one physical activity. The closest she could be convinced to take up was fencing, despite her parents' desire that she do something closer to gymnastics or dancing. Raine has since acquired some skill in the latter, but never took to the former, and she focuses more on her fencing footwork than anything else. If she isn't at the library, the used book store where she works, she's likely practicing fencing. She participates in competitions occasionally, but seldom ranks, as she places this below reading in her preferences. Sometimes she even combines this with her love of costuming, and does fencing performances accompanied by brief skits. It's for fun, of course!
Virtues: xxxxxOptimistic -- The odds might not be in her favour, but Raine believes that everyone's environment is best-suited by humour and revelry, so she aims to spread that happy believe throughout any situation. Bringing a smile and a graceful bow with her wherever she goes is her way of sweeping people off their feet- or trying to, in any case! This is just the way she was raised: her parents showed her that she can shape the world to her will, if she puts forth enough strength of intention, so she tries to be as optimistic as possible. It is true that the more dismal the situation, the more this trait is noticeable; if there's no stress in the situation, she isn't likely to bother to compensate naturally by bolstering morale with her optimism.
xxxxxElegant -- Years of perfecting her costuming persona, practicing fencing footwork/moves and immersing herself in poetry have left Raine with a well-developed sense of both elegance in movement and elegance in speech. She seldom says anything that could be considered "ugly," and so anyone around her often feels like they are in a handsome short story or fairy tale. Creating an external sense of elegance in interactions allows her to have a sort of "safety net," so that even when she is faced with someone she considers loathsome, inelegant or beneath her, she can still maintain her pretty speech patterns and mannerisms for at least long enough to gracefully slip out of the situation. It does have its prices: she wouldn't necessarily find it easy to cut loose and be wild, but she seldom feels the desire to do so in any case, so she hardly views it as a bad thing.
xxxxxPersonable -- Raine is generally considered a talkative and pleasant person; she brings her elegance and optimism with her wherever possible, filling interactions with as much romance (in the sense of idealism, chivalry, etc concepts) as she can. She has a good enough sense of humour to entertain her friends, whichever she manages to keep despite her hobbies. One might think that her personable side is a "shell" to be cracked, but she has honed this side of herself so much that it is sincere, though with her arrogance it may not always seem so. She does have a real desire to help others, it just can't trump in all situations.
Flaws: xxxxxArrogant - Raine's love of performing, costuming, fencing, and creating a persona which she perceives as elegant has not left her unscathed: she has developed a tendency to behave with arrogance, especially when challenged, or when she is performing. If she's in costume, Raine thinks of herself as the "perfect gentleman," or even Prince Charming, and convincing her of otherwise is difficult. She can't see why anyone would dislike her, or have a problem with her, and when she gets something in her mind it can be difficult to persuade her that she's wrong because of her arrogance. As soon as she realizes, she'll be apologetic, but it can take a long time and it can be too late before she even comes to that point. Outside of her costuming experience, Raine simply believes that she is the be all and end all at times, and has serious issues relinquishing control. A lot of her tensions revolve around maintaining control of herself and her life, so she naturally believes she is always the best leader and the best role model. Her arrogance blinds her to the details she loses by being so strict.
xxxxxEmotional Detachment -- Partly posturing, partly her own arrogance come to roost, Raine can wander off without a second thought and just sort of bury herself in her reading or fencing without keeping track of who she was supposed to see or what she had planned with others. At times, she starts to sincerely believe that emotions are for the weak, and in order to maintain her persona she must not allow them to distort her elegance into ugliness. She believes that emotions are ugly because they ruin her sense of control; it's alright when they are good ones, like her optimism, but should someone get under her skin or should her appearance and self-confidence be threatened, she hates the sensation of having to feel remorse or distress at any of it. Those are the kinds of situations which prompt her to feel a necessity for detachment. Her state of emotional detachment means that even if she seems like she's all there, many times it's merely her elegance and optimism and personable nature creating a buffer to conceal the fact that she feels a distinct disconnect between the reality of what others feel and the reality of her own perceptions. In other words, in all mental faculties she is firing at 100%, but when it comes down to feeling something for another, it is often artifice.
xxxxxVain -- Her arrogance and love for her male persona leave Raine very consumed by her appearance: if any detail of her appearance is off, her true gender and personality will be vulnerable and exposed. She can't bear the thought of that, and as such she'll be very hands-off at times, preferring to stick to the "learned work" rather than the hands-on tasks. After all, if her costume becomes wrinkled at all, she will have to retreat to fix it rather than spoil her image of herself as Prince Charming. On top of her obsession with making sure that her crossplay is perfect, Raine spends hours researching trends and finding new items; a lot of her income goes towards fueling her appearance, ensuring that she is not always ready for the financial future. Her vanity is so consuming that she will often refuse to be seen in public with someone she considers less attractive or talented than herself; she likes to surround herself only with things she considers beautiful, which pairs in a terrifying way with her emotional detachment. PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION Eyes: Blue, narrow.
Hair: Either all black, or black at the roots fading into white. Cut with longer bangs on one side than the other, and sheered relatively short so that it sticks up in tufts at the back. Always frames her face.
Face: Defined cheekbones, no freckles, diamond face shape. Not very feminine.
Clothes: You'd never catch Raine in any kind of skirt or dress. She prefers to wear black dress pants or slacks, a vest and a white dress shirt or just the white dress shirt alone.

Senshi: Sailor Umbriel, Senshi of Reprieve
Challenge: "Bella gerant alii!" (Reflecting her love of latin/reading, it means "Let others wage war!") xxxIf that's unacceptable, then "O weary heroes, rest by my side!"
Fuku Colour: [[I'm flexible on this; the artist can change it! Also I put Honey as the main colour, but it's totally possible to make Royal Blue the main instead, idc.]] Main Color: Honey Secondary Color: Royal Blue
Fuku: [[I'd love to leave most of the fuku design up to the artist's choice, unless they prefer to work with references... Ideally her fuku would not be girly, though!]] Collar -- Plain is fine, unless you want to somehow create a formal-wear version, haha. Bow -- For butt-bow a gold one on the small side would be nice should the butt bow be displayed, to reflect her obsession with being prince-like. Otherwise, some kind of gold chain as a front decoration/sash would be fantastic. chains can suck, though, so feel free to change this up depending on preference. A belt is also good! Bodice -- Something modeled after the dude's clothing in this kind of style: Would be optimal, but any kind of white dress shirt maybe with a white cravate would be super fantastic. Preferred base being Male 8, so whatever fits nicely on that if possible. Sleeves -- Unless it is a sleeveless dress shirt for a bodice, preferably yes! Brooch -- Maybe just a black pearl for her brooch! That or a very simple cameo, potentially with or without a lace ruffle under it. Bottoms -- Ideally, it would be manly bottoms, and she'd be wearing white pants [or the royal blue pants] with a gold strip down the leg or some kind of embroidery on the hems etc; any kind of formal pants! Tiara -- A tiara stylized after a crown would be nice, with the points and such; it can still be flat against her skin so that it's clearly a tiara, but just stylized would be awesome. If that's too much like stepping on the toes of real "royal" characters, then just a traditional tiara! As unobtrusive as possible. Choker -- A cravate! Like mentioned earlier. Hopefully. Not two cravates, I mean, just... it is the same cravate, but it applies in two fields. Who would wear two cravates. Shoes -- Dress shoes, or if you put a punk spin on her outfit like she has in her regular wear then she can have knee-high or mid-calf goth looking boots with the buckles and all. Gloves -- White gloves, to any suitable length. Accessories -- One ear pierced, simple gold jewelry. A signet ring on one finger.
Your MAIN COLOUR should dominate. Your SECOND COLOUR should be used for trimming.
Attacks: Sailor Scout Attack: Fleeting Grace. Twice per battle, Sailor Umbriel can aleviate pain by touch. It merely removes the sensation of pain, and she must have physical contact and is only proficient when she uses at least one hand. She can use it on two individuals at once, and then it is out of usages for the rest of the battle, or she can use it once and then a 2nd time later. The relief lasts the remainder of the battle, but the wound itself is not healed; if she uses both usages up on one individual at once, she can stem minor to moderate bleeding for the duration of the battle as well as numb the pain. It does not repair damage to health previously done, but merely allows the individual to continue fighting without feeling what has been done to them. If they exert too much energy in battle, however, (aka if they "overdo" it) the "painkiller" effect will wear off. Whatever hand she uses to apply her "painkiller" effect suffers reduced nerve sensations at approximately 75% for the rest of the battle.
Super Sailor Scout Attack: Vital Respite. A step up on "Fleeting Grace," Vital Respite also requires physical contact between Umbriel and her target. Twice per battle, she can lay a hand on an individual and provide them with minor healing and a rush of energy; they can choose to sink deep into this ability and they occupy a sort of "back seat" during the recovery phase. It dulls their reflexes slightly, but they will not feel new pain as strongly as they would for the duration of the battle. Essentially this revitalizes any willing participant for the rest of the battle. While chaneling this ability, Sailor Umbriel cannot respond to any external stimuli.
Eternal Sailor Attack: Walk the Brink. Up to twice per battle, Sailor Umbriel can act as a scapegoat for any target suffering up to severe wounds and halve their damage; her ability is accompanied by relief from their pain for the rest of the battle. The wounds don't open up on her body, she merely has to ride through the pain that they would normally be receiving. If the damage would normally kill them [worst case scenario], Umbriel has to recover in her civilian form for quite some time afterwards. She can only use the ability once during the battle if the damaged individual she uses this on would have suffered near-fatal, severe or fatal wounds. She can use it proactively, if she anticipates an attack, but it automatically uses up both of her usages in "anticipation" of the worst possible scenario.

Just dropping in to let you know you definitely don't have to do a traditional female fuku! As long as it has the required elements, ie sailor collar, etc, then it's totally up to you, so don't feel limited by needing to be "male" or "female". Also keep in mind that you can now use any template, whether it be male or female, or even a combination if the artist is willing!
If you wanted to have Honey as the "Main color" and pick something else for "secondary", you totally could! Right now the white is redundant, since it's default for senshi. XD; (so it would be white + "main" + "secondary")
Hope that helps some!

I want to start by saying I like your ideas!
There's just a few things I'm unsure about - you said she appreciates poetry, and the more french and latin the better, so does she read these languages fluently? Is english her first language or could it be french?
As for her male persona (which I think is pretty cool), initially you stated she maintains a male persona online and that she crossplays at conventions. However, in her flaws, it's implied that she often does these things out in public? Or I could be reading into it too much? It looks like she presents as a male at all times in public. Mind clarifying this for me?
Also it would be great if you could flesh out how her flaws pertain to her life outside of costuming. It's good that you include that and show that it's such an important part of her life, but it'd also be great to see how it affects other parts of her life (ie how she interacts with teachers at school).
Arrogant and vain are pretty close to one another, you could conceivably lump them together under the header of 'pretentious' if you wanted to. Also, detached reads more as whimsical for me, except for the last part about the emotions. Maybe you could focus on this?
Just a couple questions to consider for expanding on flaws/virtues:
Does she primarily flaunt her optimism in dismal situations? Why is she so optimistic? Is this a natural disposition or a learned trait? Does she only display her elegance in costume? Does she have an aversion to stepping in puddles? How would she react when confronted with someone who is blunt and clumsy in articulating themselves? Where did she come up with the idea that emotions tarnish her persona? Was it a negative experience that led to it? What prompts her to detach from someone? As for vain, it reads more as though she's petrified of being exposed as female, and her paranoia of that event happening restrains her from some hands-on tasks. Were you looking to focus on her vanity, or her inability to partake in certain activities due to her fear of being exposed? What kinds of activities does she restrain herself from?
Hope some of this helped! And good luck on the quest!

Thank you for the very intuitive, very friendly crit! I really appreciate the time you took! <3
Firstly, I clarified her languages! Technically I could swing French as her first language, but the way I worded it now she isn't fluent in Latin though she likes it and she was once immersed in French but picked it up again later once she was over the pressure of having been made to learn it.
Thank you for liking her male persona! I clarified that, too, and she really does present as a guy in public as well; thanks for pointing that out, it was really unclear xD;
Ahh, I have such a problem with tunnel-vision in traits OTL Once I think of a concept, I tend to focus too much on THAT instead of the person as, well, a person xD;
Although you're right, arrogance and vanity are pretty closely related, I tried to elaborate on her real life flaws to make them more distinctly their own, because pretentious by definition means someone who is putting on airs or acting more self-important than they are, pretending to be talented when they are not, etc-- Raine doesn't really pretend, she has a very narrow field of focus, she just is extremely stuck up about what she DOES do well xD; But if arrogance and vanity as her flaws are still too close I will try to find an alternative!
By 'detached' I was referring to the psychological term "Emotional detachment," which represents an inability to interact fully with others in any kind of meaningful way-- they appear to be physically and mentally present, but they can never fully emotionally present: the disconnect prevents meaningful relationships unless overcome somehow. Does that make sense? ; u; Whimsical to me seems to be a much happier notion xD; She's just being a d*ck > A>;
You're right that vain ends up reading more like a crippling fear of being exposed xD; Hmm, I think I was looking to illustrate that her obsession with how she looks and how she comes across to others makes her unwilling to compromise, even if it's not really living, the way she's being.
It helped a lot! I edited it already, and then as I was finishing up the last couple things, deleted the edits *weep* But I think I've re-done most of it =_=;

It's looking much more fleshed out and reads clearly now! Citing emotional detachment makes much more sense; I would recommend changing the detached header to read emotionally detached to avoid confusion. As a student, I studied psychology for years and am thus very familiar with the psychological associations. However, from a writer's perspective, detached is more of a physical thing, or at best, aloof (which obviously clashes with her personable trait). Apart from that, I can't come up with any more crits! Nice job, and congrats on winning the custom! Oh, and don't forget to ask for a stamp in the acquired art thread!

Hello Face!
Hobbies: Costuming: Just some clarification to this one! Did she adopt this as a hobby because of her possible transgender personality or was it after the school performance that she realised she had a flair for cosplaying/ performance and the male side of things came later?
Does she love putting on costumes because it means she can be the person she really wants to be or is it purely because of her lack of curves that she believes she can only be seen as a male character? Is this male counterpart ‘just for fun’ or does she see herself as a man trapped in a female body or is it more transvestite orientated and she prefers male clothes? It might be worth focusing purely on the hobby side of things and include somewhere in her personality about the male view of herself.
Virtues/Flaws: Optimistic: I feel the optimistic virtue clashes with her flaw of emotion-detachment. Optimism to me means never saying surrender, always having a positive outlook on life and carrying those that are low or in need of a helping hand. Its ok being arrogant about your positive outlook but if you then have Raine willing to be cruel or mean to someone if they don’t fit her idea of perfection why bother being so optimistic to them? “It is true that the more dismal the situation, the more this trait is noticeable; if there's no stress in the situation, she isn't likely to bother to compensate naturally by bolstering morale with her optimism.” If you have to work at her to reveal this virtue or have certain standards to obtain it then it’s not worth having. We want virtues to be something that shines through your character and defines a clean portion of them and she seems to be conflicting with hers. If you really want this virtue you will have to edit your blurb and flaws accordingly.
Personable: “Unless she's in one of her self-absorbed moods” again this is a moot point. For example I am not happy if I am pissed off so it doesn’t matter and again we don’t want her personality to have criteria for characters to meet before she reveals it so it best to leave things like this out.
Senshi Attacks
Fleeting Grace: If the ally gets new wounds will these hurt or are they automatically exempt? . Vital Respite: So while this power is taking place Sailor Umbriel can’t move and to get its full effects the receiver shouldn’t move as well? I worry that this will lead both allies to get attacked and the power may never get the chance to take place because someone will always be distracting/stopping Sailor Umbriel. Maybe just choose one to be unable to respond to external stimuli, more so to make it fairer on you.
Walk the Brink: I like the idea of taking on the pain herself but does she have to change to civilian form right away once completed? How long does it take for her to recover and what happens if she is caught in a fight literally the next day? Does performing this power mean she becomes useless in battle if say it was a fatal attack?
Sorry I have lots of questions so these are just a few so it doesn’t become a wall of text!! Quote me if you need me to explain any of my questions further!

Thank you so much for the time you took to read Umbriel and crit her <3 I appreciate your work ; u; So I actually typed up this long reply / edits... and my computer crashed. Hence why it has taken me till now to redo it *weep* ((This has nothing to do with anything but I just noticed your avvie is gorgeous right now xD; props on that))
HERE GOES AGAIN xD;
Costuming: I edited it to put one line in, but I can add more if it's necessary; basically she didn't put two and two together right away, she just thought she liked costumes (after the school performance) but after crossplaying and feeling a constant sense of disappointment when she removed her costume, she realized that it was because she didn't want to give up that other side of herself just to go back to what was "normal." So it turned into her male persona/transgender self.
Her love of costuming is closely related to her persona, so I don't think it'd make sense to cut that out of her hobby? It's still a hobby, it's just something she also uses to identify herself as her "true self." So, no, it's not because she has no curves, that just makes it remarkably easy for her to do what she loves to do.
Virtues Flaws: When I say "emotional detachment" it's a psychological term. I'll show you the two definitions of each, because while it may seem on the surface like they're incompatible, they can exist quite peacefully alongside one another if one uses the definitions to illustrate the traits.op·ti·mism [op-tuh-miz-uhm] noun 1. a disposition or tendency to look on the more favorable side of events or conditions and to expect the most favorable outcome. 2. the belief that good ultimately predominates over evil in the world. 3. the belief that goodness pervades reality. 4. the doctrine that the existing world is the best of all possible worlds.Emotional Detachment as described in Science Daily In the first meaning, it refers to an inability to connect with others on an emotional level, as well as a means of coping with anxiety by avoiding certain situations that trigger it; it is often described as "emotional numbing" or dissociation. In the second sense, it is a type of mental assertiveness that allows people to maintain their boundaries and psychic integrity when faced with the emotional demands of another person or group of persons. I'll also take this opportunity to tackle why perhaps that phrase "It is true that the more dismal the situation, the more this trait is noticeable; if there's no stress in the situation, she isn't likely to bother to compensate naturally by bolstering morale with her optimism.”' wasn't as clear as it should have been. Essentially, Raine's optimism is a pervasive quality that means even in dire or inescapable situations she'll see the "bright" side of the event, especially where matters of "good and evil" come into play, be it in real life (she'll always believe that the righteous will triumph over liars and crass/perverted people) or in the conflict of senshi vs negaversers. What I meant by the line about "the more dismal the situation" is that the easier it would be to be negative about a situation, the more vocally and obviously optimistic Raine will be. So... okay, if someone was ranting at her about how they never get their favourite icecream restocked etc etc.. Raine might just commiserate, thinking internally "I'm sure it will be restocked soon, they shouldn't worry about something so slight." But, say she had found herself in a fight where they were outnumbered 5 to 2, Sailor Umbriel's skills are mostly defense/support right... so she'd very vocally "cheerlead" for her fighter, telling them that with the two of them, how could they possibly lose? They were a team! etc... So in short, it doesn't take bad situations to MAKE her optimistic, she just gets really like ... punch-to-the-face optimistic if she feels like the situation really needs it or someone is being a hardcore gloomy gus.
The reason why the term psychological detachment can co-exist with optimism is that optimism is a "disposition," or a "tendency," not ... a constant, not by definition. On top of that, emotional detachment in its psychological term incarnation directly relates to her inability to form lasting, meaningful connections. No matter how positive she may be about it, or how many times she might try to form a connection with someone, part of her is incapable of bridging that gap. On top of that, the "mental assertiveness" of it means she puts up careful walls so that if anyone tries to bridge the gap, if she feels like they're trying to bend her to their will, she'll come off as cold.
I hope that makes sense! I really feel like the key is in the definition of the two terms; but if any of this would fit well in her descrips so that her quest contains missing info that helps illustrate why she can be both at once, feel free to point out the bits that I could put in? o uo Sorry I'm unclear sometimes OTL
I took out the line about her "unless she's in one of her self-absorbed moods" just like you said! <3
-- Senshi stuff --
At least here it gets simple lmao xD
1) This is an awesome question. I'd say that if the wound is of similar or lesser severity to the wound she already dulled, the painkiller would hold; I think that if the wound is far greater than what she could normally dull, however, then they feel that. Does that make sense? 2) Thank you! I've edited it so that it's just she can't respond to external stimuli while she's using it. 3) She doesn't change right away, it's just that as soon as she's out of senshi form she has to recover. Ahh, more good questions! I'd say that if she was caught in a situation where she needed to transform the next day... well, I'd normally say it'd be like trying to get someone who'd been hospitalized to fight > A>; Not a good idea! But perhaps alternatively she could still fight, in a basic sense, but it would compound her recovery time? That way she's not totally helpless, but she can't just "ignore" the damage she took?
Ahh! I'm sorry my response is so long ; A; Does any of this help clarify? Thanks, Mati <3 For all your hard work OTL I appreciate it!
