It was a beautiful day for some adventure, and Garland was spending it within the forest near the fringes of his normal territory. He hadn't been in this particular one very much, and was curious to know why the color, size, and shape of it all was so different from the trees closer to home. There were even holes in the middle of some of them, though, sadly, most were too tall for him to see inside.
His red eyes flickered quickly as he took in the forest and trotted beneath the naked boughs. It appeared empty of other soquili and, with another gaze round to ensure it, he suddenly leaped up to try and peer into one of the holes. Unsurprisingly, he fell short, but he was certain if he went just a little bit higher, he'd be able to reach it, and continued to think so after multiple attempts (and failures).
He'd long forgotten to keep an eye and ear out for approaching strangers now, and was solely focused on jumping in front of a tree.

 "What are you doing?" she asked quietly in an amused tone, giggling at the other foal. She had come across him after wandering through the forest. She had chosen a different route through the trees today. She didn't like using the same paths over and over again. Too boring. Too safe.
Her skin cracked slightly as she observed him. It was nothing to be afraid of at the moment, she was not falling apart yet. She was learning to become less afraid of the breaking phenomenon that occurred on her body. After all, it always seemed to return to normal.
The more she grew the more she became confident in herself and her body. And she was growing. Sometimes she thought she could feel it. Some days the ground seemed farther away from her, other days she still felt so small. But today she was feeling rather tall, especially since she could see that this other foal was a little smaller than she was.
"What are you doing?" she asked again a little louder so that he could hear her.

((Aghh so sorry for the late tag. D8 I'm actually really stupid and didn't notice it until I came here to copy and paste Garland's post format... OTL))
Garland leapt again, although this time it was out of alarm rather than any inclination on his part. The newcomer's approach had been unexpected and, startled, he'd bolted behind a tree as soon as his hooves had touched the ground.
Fear gave way to embarrassment when he registered the question – even more so when he realized the voice sounded like a filly's. He peered out cautiously around his trunk, his eyes squinted suspiciously.
"I was practicin' jumping," he said with as much authority as he could, after confirming his new companion was a foal like himself. He took some reassurance from that and stepped out from his cover, acting for all the world as if he hadn't hidden at all.
"What about you?"

Risti giggled at him lightly and scooted towards him with interest. "Jumping? Why would you practice that?" she asked curiously. Perhaps jumping was something she should be practicing and she simply hadn't noticed it as a requirement for life. She could hear the attempt at authority in his voice and pretended for his sake that he was succeeding in being the bigger foal, and that he hadn't hidden behind the tree.
She smiled casually and looked around before answering his question, "I was exploring." She said it simply, as if it didn't matter to her. It certainly wouldn't matter to him. It was only in politeness that others returned questions. At least, that's how she saw it. He really wasn't concerned with what she had been doing, he was just asking to be polite. How sweet of him! He wasn't as stern as he appeared to be, she was sure of it. OMG I'm sooo sorry that took so long! Idk why I didn't reply to this sooner. For some reason I thought I had. xD

”I might need it,” Garland said defensively. “If I fell down a cliff, I could jump right back up.” He nodded gravely, as if the action alone would support his words. Falling down cliffs was bad, he’d heard, though he’d never seen one himself. It seemed like something you could impress others with by jumping on, though, and he was happy he thought of it. There was nothing like cold, cold logic to prove a point.
“Exploring? Where?” he said, immediately perking at her words. If she had sounded excited, he would have brushed off the activity as childish compared to his, erm, jumping training, but she was acting indifferent. That meant she found something interesting, didn’t it?
“Can I come with you? I’m Garland, by the way.” He gave her a winning smile.

She couldn't help smiling back at his eager grin, happy that he was actually interested in exploring with her. She flipped the pink strand of hair out her face casually and shrugged. "I suppose you can come. Maybe we can find some cliffs for you to jump up," she giggled lightly and winked at him, thinking it was almost impossible to jump up a cliff. "I'm Ri," she said, giving her nickname first to skip a step in having to give the full name and then the nickname.
She bounded forward, giving an awkward little jump to make him feel a little better about his silly jumping. She didn't know if there were any cliffs around here and she hadn't ever seen one, but she was sure they could find one eventually. She hoped he was up for the journey, she didn't like being stopped or slowed down when exploring. She turned back with a smile to make sure he was coming as she walked forward and further into the forest.

Yep, there was undoubtedly something. Garland pranced around her, eager to start and pleased she let him to join her. He knew some others who'd only allow it if he pleaded, but why should he have to? Who wouldn't want him? The filly seemed sensible, and he was glad he met her. The thought of finding a cliff was a little daunting, though, especially after the wink Ri gave him. He hoped he hadn’t underestimated it too much... Ah well, what were the chances of them finding one out in the wild, anywho.
He flicked his tail when she jumped and felt more appreciative for her company. His own jumping didn’t seem so ridiculous now, and even the reason for it was forgotten amidst his excitement for the coming adventure.
“Where’re we going?” he asked, following her willingly, his red eyes peering hard at everything they passed, as if it to decipher the mystery of their destination with imagined clues.

She pushed through trees and bushes, bending around a few large rocks here and there. "Well, there's this cave up around here. I always hear such strange noises coming from it...but I've never had a big, strong colt with me like yourself to investigate it," she grinned devilishly at him. Of course she would not make him go into the cave or investigate it. She had a vague idea of what was in there, and she knew that was no place for a foal. No, she would not send him into the cave, it was just fun to see what reaction she could get from him.
She turned the corner, bending around a very large boulder and then stopping. "Shh, we're here," she said, glancing back at him over her crumbling shoulder. Now was a time that she didn't worry so much about the breaking. She was used to it and for now it was nothing serious. She didn't hide it from him. She wondered if it would scare him, but something about him told her that he was not completely normal himself. She smiled back at him, beckoning him forward to witness the heaving and snoring of the cave. Edit: Oops. Totally forgot I was on my mule. xD

Garland was on the alert, his eyes and ears continually searching here and there, while his nose worked to pick up traces his other senses may have missed. In reality, there wasn’t anything outstanding about the path they travelled, but the fancies of his mind easily gave meaning to every stray twig, pebble, and leaf they came across, and he’d already mapped out their adventure by the time Risti spoke again.
His chest swelled at her compliment, then deflated just as quickly when he heard the noises from within the cave. Yes, he was strong and brave... but only when there was nothing around to test its authenticity. He gulped hard, but curiosity won over his fear, and he stepped closer to peer past the boulder when his gaze was lured by Ri’s sudden crumbling.
“You’re breaking!” He was surprised, but not scared. He’d seen brittle rocks break in a similar manner, and it made sense to him that the same thing could happen to shoulders, especially since they seemed as strong as stone. But what had hurt her? He’d never seen any rock that could put itself back together again, and he was worried the filly would shatter before his eyes if it continued.

"Shhh!" she said again, hoping he had not awoken the being within the cave. She looked into its depths for any movement, making sure nothing stirred within. She could still hear deep breathing, which meant it was still asleep. She let a breath escape her mouth, as she had been unaware of the fact that she had been holding it in. "Oh...that..." she said, looking at her shoulder and turning towards him a little. "Does it scare you, Garland?" she asked curiously, examining his facial expression.
"You would save me, wouldn't you?" she asked, teasing him a little and giggling slightly. She wished inwardly that he could save her. Even if she were serious, she knew it wasn't possible. She looked down at herself as her body began to crumble even more. It was getting uncomfortable now, to the point where she was a little afraid. But she didn't want to cry in front of him, or in front of this cave and what was inside it. Judging by the expression on his face this was not a normal thing, and this fact smacked her in the face and scared her more than the cracking itself.
She could hear movement in the cave, the scraping of paws on the earth. "Maybe we should go..." she said hesitantly, backing away from the cave a little.

Hi there! Hope things are going ok. I'm sure things are busy if you're in school like I am. Hehe. Anyways, I was hoping to complete some of Risti's foal RPs. I hope that you would still like to continue this RP as I would like for her RPs to be complete and to have endings. <3 This is just a little poke, no rush at all. Garland eyed the mouth of the cave warily, reminded of its uncertain and seemingly dangerous contents by Ri’s sharp request for silence. However, nothing emerged, and he quickly returned his attention to the filly.
“It doesn’t scare me,” he said. The words were genuine, but he puffed up to support the claim, just in case. He couldn’t have anyone thinking he was scared of anything, after all.
“I’d save you,” he continued bravely, though in all honesty he didn’t know if he could. How were you supposed to save someone from themself? The cracks certainly didn’t seem to come from any external force. Nothing was hurting her, but she was breaking all the same.
Suddenly, the scrabble of claws could be heard. His ear tweaked toward it, followed by his head. Whatever it was, it didn’t sound small, but by then his fear had dissipated, leaving behind a burning curiosity. He took a step forward out from behind the boulder, craning his senses to catch some sign of what it might be, when Ri’s suggestion reached his ears. She’d been the one to lead him here, so he could only assume she knew of the creature and had reason for her hesitance, but his was the boldness of untested youth, and he couldn’t back down now, not after all he’d said so far. He stood his ground.
“Why? What is it?”

She was momentarily irritated by his curiosity, but then she remembered her first time stumbling upon the cave. She had been just as interested, even ignorant to the dangers inside.
"It's a big..." but she was cut off as the beast emerged from the cave, hulking and black, its back hunched and its great nose sniffing the air. "Run..." she whispered, giving Garland a panicked look as the bear spotted them and began stomping their way. Their only hope now was that it was too tired and groggy to run after them right away. She grabbed Garland on the scruff of his neck with her tail and took off running into the forest. She knew the forest well, but so did the bear. They would have to outsmart it somehow if it was hungry enough to chase them.
"Come on Garland!" she shouted over her shoulder, making sure he was near. He didn't know his way around. If she left him behind he was a goner.

Garland perked up at the single word. Bigger was better, right? How exciting! He couldn’t wait to know what— Nevermind.
His legs trembled at the sight of the bear as it stepped out of its cave, rooted to the spot. His mind went blank, his eyes wide, but Ri’s tail prompted him to move. After that, he didn’t have to be told twice. Another glance at the gigantic creature – who was easily heavier and larger than them both combined, by the looks of it – was all he needed. Who cared about bravery when you were dead, right?
He turned tail and sprinted for the forest, sticking close to Ri’s side and grateful for her guidance. He didn’t know why it was interested in chasing them, but he hoped the trees would be enough to deter the colossal monster.

She darted between trees, trying to throw the bear off. But her bright yellow pelt was a bright light in the dark, and the bear was attracted to her like a moth. Their only hope was that the bear would tire soon. She felt herself crumbling and breaking at an excessive rate, but now was no time to be cautious of it. It was either crumble to the ground and get stomped or be eaten alive. Don't think that. Don't think that. Her heart pounded in her chest with fear for herself, fear for her friend.
And then she saw it. A crack in a rock wall just big enough for the two of them. "Garland come on!" she yelled over her shoulder. She hoped he was right behind her. The wall reminded her much of herself, and she briefly pictured small animals or bugs taking refuge in her flesh. She shivered before pushing herself through into the shallow crevice beyond the crack in the wall, listening to the pounding of her own heart and of feet upon the ground outside.Sorry for the late reply.
