Morrigan was the Gods knew where. Nefertari never bothered to ask her whereabouts sometimes when she decided it time to take off to do her own personal business. They had similar tragic lives, but different ways they wished to go about them. Vengeance would be sweet. And pointless for her. As far as Nefertari was aware, Atsu was buried underneath a few layers of sarcophagus, rotting in some hole in a mountain. There was no rush to destroy his corpse as he had hers. The years had ticked away so much since then, he must be well in the Land of the Dead. What was a little bit more? He would have been judged fairly by the Gods and cast out of his assumption of living a peaceful afterlife once he died. He had gotten what was coming to him long ago. So there really was no need for her to seek revenge.

Morrigan, on the other hand, couldn't be all sure the murderer of her was dead. Nor if her daughters ceased to breath or still drew air into their lungs. Her quest would not end until she discovered something, Nefertari was sure. And she respected that. The other mare was allowed to come and go as she pleased without being put to the question.

But for Nefertari, what more was there but to reclaim her kingdom? To gather her forces back around her and be a true Queen once more, not just a Queen of dust and bones. There just was the problem with her appearance. Who in their sane mind would follow a walking corpse with blood red eyes.

The mare she had been before was lost. Now in its place was only this monster.

User ImageAnother day, same as any other. Tepey had spend the morning as he always had--preening, making sure his mane was perfectly arranged, getting a bite to eat, and more preening. But then there had been an abnormal argument with his brother that had sent him off in a huff to sulk by himself. How rude! How entirely unlike Cometary to talk like that! It made one wonder why one even kept a good-for-nothing little brother around when he was going to talk to one like that. The nerve.

So Tepey had spent the rest of the morning stomping around in a snit, pointedly avoiding any place he thought his brother might be in favor of sulking by himself. There was little in love more satisfying than a proper sulk, really, so by the time noon was coming on, he had almost gotten to the point where he might be inclined to not be angry at his brother. Might. If the little twitch would apologize to him, and he was certain that would happen. Content in the knowledge that soon his brother would be crawling to him to apologize for wronging him, Tepey had a spring in his step that lasted until he walked around a boulder and found himself face to face with--

!!!

He didn't even know what it was! Except that it was probably a who. Or had been a who at some point--possibly a long time ago. A very long time ago.

There was probably a proper way to react in such a situation, but saying "Ngeep!!" in a shrill voice was probably not it.

Nefertari was still deep in her thoughts by the time the shrill voice cut into them. For a moment she was confused even more about where she was, the sound cutting into her empty skull. Had she still her brain she suspected she'd have the start of a wicked headache. Brain or not, it did little to decrease her irritation already at this creature. Red eyes glowed as she marched a few steps closer, head held high. If it weren't for all the anger she felt over her lack of an afterlife, she might have been willing to let this stallion go. As it were, she was in no mood for anyone to even look at her funny and this one had done worse: He had decided to remind her of how she looked. She just kept telling herself daily there were advantages to looking as scary as she did.

"You," she called out, heedless of the fact she might scare him off before she could say or do anything. "Who are you and where is this? I expect answers immediately."

This was not going to be a good day to be Tepey R'Pat, was it? A good day to be Tepey was a day in which looking pretty was all he needed to do. A bad day to be Tepey was, well, a bad day for anyone. Now that he had more time to look at the star, he could discern a few features. First of all, it was a mare--though that was kind of hard to tell. The truth was, her skin and flesh were so wizened that she looked slightly masculine, but she also sounded female. A little hoarse, sounded as if she needed a glass of water or, better yet, some wine, but still sounded female. It sounded like quite an attractive voice, had it not been so dry. She was also an algiedi, and in life, he could see she would have been quite striking. Maybe even beautiful. Handsome, certainly. The hooves and horns were quite nice. Those eyes, though, were utterly disturbing. They made him shudder.

The entire look of her made her think, too. He'd heard legends about this when he was a foal--an empire ruled by algiedi descended from the gods. They believed in some sort of afterlife, and that you needed your original body in near-pristine condition to get there, so they buried them in the desert. Well, this was probably one of their queens--she looked too fine to be a commoner, and though her bandages were covered in tar and sloppy all around, her back legs looked as if they'd been wrapped with care, ornately, in fact. "I am Tepey R'Pat, your majesty," he said meekly, "and I do not know where we are except that were are in some hills to the north of a desert. Um. And that there is an ocean not three day's journey west of here." They'd just come out of the desert and away from the ocean themselves, so he knew that much at least.
