Maslin was not particularly thrilled to be out hunting dragons right now. He'd thought he would be done with this. However the recent revelation of the Drakeins presence had shaken things up lately. People were traveling out into the wild's more and more searching for nests and disturbing all manner of wildlife including dragons. A small band of Ysali had taken to attacking travelers to the Ashen city and those capable of fighting them had been drafted into the hunting them down and making the roadways safe again.
Since his family's camp was just outside the city and hybrid or not Maslin was deemed competent by the guards and officials he'd been dragged into the situation as well. Leaving Laz at home for the keinling's safety this time he'd ventured out towards the area near the section of road he was supposed to be clearing.
Maslin spotted a lone Ysali emerging from the nearby treeline and immediately the boy began harnessing his magic. While he still had misgivings about the dovaa as a people due to his errant father, he was quite glad for the innate magic his dragon kin blood granted him. His relatives who could use magic had all needed the aid of a special weapon to allow them to do the sorts of things he could. Not that Maslin planned to make use of the magic for much longer.
Putting his focus back on the task at hand he loosed a bolt of magic straight at his foe and missed by inches when the small green dragon leaped sideways like a startled cat. The Ysali gave him a nasty look and disappeared back into the trees before Maslin could unleash any more magic upon it. . Maslin doubted it was scared though, just summoning reinforcements. He could not yet deal with multiple dragons at once and began to beat hasty retreat of his own.
