~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The winter breeze blew through the violet locks that adorned the head of the golden scaled individual. She wrapped her cloak tightly around her body as she moved quickly through the desert floor of Eowyn in the late evening. It was then, that she heard the booming roar of a Firani dragon in the distance. Her eyes quickly darted back and forth, trying to see if she could view the source of the sound even in the dusk of night.
The Drakeinian took a detour to check out the reasoning behind the roar. On her way to check up on the sound, she caught eye of something completely different. A Dovaa no more aged than an Expert with brown hair and golden tips, fled with a small, Kiandri Keinling. What was going on? Had the rumors been true after all? This was not a sight she was wanting to see. They had bonded at first sight, and this was the first time she had seen any Bonded Drakein with their partner. This was a devastatingly hard thing to see.
Violet hair began to fall out of the perfect bun she had created as she bounded through the desert, leaving the little Dovaa to himself. She needed to seek out Rhazes, the leader of the town raids as he had been known as. He was known as one of the fiercest Drakeinian alive. She hadn't ever met the leader, but heard that he was a very strong Drakeinian, one that would definitely be a formidable ally in trying to salvage what was left of the Drakein race. Just maybe the two could work together? She too was well known for her renown healing abilities after all. Maybe he had heard of her? It didn't matter, after all, she just wanted peace within Magesc and hopefully with Rhazes help, at least some peace could be attained.
Rhazes let out a low growl as he stared at a map spread on the table before him. He was in his little office area, pouring over the latest reports his informants had passed along. The remoteness of Eowyn suited the reptilian Drakeinian perfectly, though he was known to travel occasionally to the other continents to follow up on leads in person or to lead a raid or two in an area that was struggling. Mostly a behind-the-scenes leader, Rhazes wasn't against getting his hands dirty when it was needed.
Even now, as he peered at the map, he was debating a trip once more. He'd gotten several disturbing reports in recently, including a few sightings of what was claimed to be a Bonded Drakein as well as a report on a smashed nest that was troubling several of the nesting Drakein mothers.
These rumors popped up from time to time, but something told Rhazes that this time was different. Especially about that Bonded... that rumor was the most extensive with several reported sightings. Which made it the most worrisome. The purple-scaled Drakeinian preferred to keep a claw upon the pulse of Drakein-kind and when his race worried, he worried. He found it as his job to reassure those who followed him that the Drakein were indeed a thriving race of their own and that meant squashing rumors such as these.
A noise at the entrance to the cave he'd settled in caused Rhazes to look up from the troublesome map. One of the lieutenants of his party was entering. "Yes?" He did not like being disturbed, a fact that was well known amongst his followers. Not unless they had a reason, which this young Drakein had best have.
The young Ysali Drakein stammered but got his message across quickly before Rhazes' temper could be raised. "A visitor hmmm? And a Drakeinian? Well, I best go greet them myself." With that he walked past the relieved Ysali and out into the early evening, wrapping his cloak more tightly around him as the chilly breeze hit him. His keen eyes spotted what the young outlook had spotted and he waited for his fellow Drakeinian to approach.
It was quite a sight to behold. This Rhazes character must be a bit more famous than she had first imagined. She worked her way closer towards the cave where a few guards stood watch over the entrance. One of the guards spotted her and quickly ran inside, only to have a tall, purple Drakeinian exit. That must be him.
"You must be Rhazes. I am Anodyne, the Firani Healer. It's a pleasure to make your acquaintance, though I am sorry to say it couldn't be under more pleasant circumstances." the Drakeinian raised a claw to the man before her. She had always heard his appearance was strange, but he looked much more like a Drakein than that of a Drakeinian. His appearance was just a bit different and she knew it must have been caused by his Ritual Orb differing from his specie. She had heard rumors of such things happening to Drakein who decided to do their Ritual slightly different like that.
"I need to speak with you about something I saw tonight. It can't wait." she urged, pulling her cloak tighter around her body as the wind picked up slightly.
Rhazes gave a toothy grin as he saw this other Drakeinian eying his appearance. Even amongst the rarer humanoid Drakeinains, he stood out. But he was quite proud of his appearance. After all, who wanted to look entirely like those fleshies? He was a Drakein and proud of his heritage!
"Yes, I am Rhazes," the male replied, quickly thinking. He'd heard of Anodyne, quite a bit actually. She was well-known amongst the Drakein as a great healer and someone to be respected. And if she had something of such importance as to have come to him and at such an hour, he'd be a fool to turn her away.
"Come. Let's talk in here." He gestured toward the cave behind him, stepping aside to allow her to pass by first. A quick glance at his guards got them to scatter and mind their own business.
Once inside, he stoked the fire and allowed his cloak to flow loosely about his body once more. Then Rhazes took a seat, offering an empty chair to Anodyne as well, waiting for her to speak. He was not one to push right away. It was best to let the information flow at its own pace.
Anodyne eyed the guards as they scattered. Rhazes definitely was a powerful being if they obeyed his orders as though they were his minions. That was a respectable thing, though she didn't think fear was the right way to earn that respect.
The golden Drakeinian felt the warmth of the fire, her blood was already hotter than most since she was of Firani descent, but a heated room was nice. As Rhazes sat, she untied her cloak and swung it off, placing it neatly on the back of the empty chair she was about to settle into.
Anodyne took a breath and kept her eyes locked on her fellow Drakeinian's as she began to speak. "I saw a Bonded, tonight. I had only ever heard the rumors that spread, though tonight, I saw a Dovaa sneak off with one of our own. The Keinling did not make a sound, for it was soothed by the Dovaa's touch. I could sense that much. Thus, I decided to seek you out. I just ask for peace, that is truly all I want. They see us as a threat unless we're bonded to them like slaves. Do you have any idea what we can do to stop this?"
Of all the things Rhazes had pondered over in his mind of what could have brought Anodyne to him, what she said came as a surprise. The purple Drakeinian gave a sigh, his shoulders slumping. Sure, there had been rumors but to have someone as well-known and trustworthy as Anodyne to state it, it had to be true. "What breed was the Bonded?" Rhazes asked, though he was certain he already knew the answer. That, at least, had been consistent in the rumors he'd heard as well as the Bonded being with a Dovaa.
It seemed that Rhazes was going to have to go on his trip after all. If the races had found how to Bond the Drakein to them, then only trouble lay ahead. For, as Anodyne had stated, the Bond reduced the Drakein to nothing more than a slave. Their intelligence was reduced and they became fully dependent upon their Bonder. They became nothing more than puppet pets as far as he was concerned.
Rhazes gave Anodyne a toothy grin. "Oh I have a few ideas..." Though his ideas ran far from being peaceful. If the races started Bonding the Drakein at a fast pace, they'd all be enslaved before they knew it. Perhaps it was time to find out a bit more about this Bonded and the Dovaa...
Knowing the rumors about Rhazes, she knew that that whatever he had planned was not going to end well for either side. She had hoped to find a better way to deal with the problem than to resort to violence. "As far as I could tell, the markings were consistent with that of a Kiandri Drakein." she said, her prim and proper state of sitting became more relaxed and she slumped a bit in her chair, crossing her arms, eying the Drakeinian before her.
An eyebrow rose as she saw that toothy grin. What was he planning? It couldn't be any good from the look of excitement on his face. "What kinds of ideas are they?" Anodyne asked, her eyebrow still raised to show suspicion. She didn't want anything to do with violence, she would much rather draw up a peace treaty between the races and take this down as peaceful as possible.
Rhazes nodded at Anodyne's comment about the youngster being a Kiandri. That fit with the rumors and confirmed all that he'd heard. "Well, this isn't the first time I've heard of this Bonded. And it's not the only thing that has me concerned. There are other rumors going around. It seems the races might have rediscovered the Bonding..." And that was worrying if so.
He could sense the disapproval from Anodyne. "Well, it would start with some strong words... followed by some strong actions if those words weren't enough, which I doubt they will be." He was already mentally calculating how many of his usual raiders would be up for something a bit more confrontational. Their usual plans involved sneaking in and out and stealing, not facing against an actual opponent. Some would be up for it, but others might not be. He might have to recruit some more warriors and he had a feeling that these rumors would have several of the Drakein ready to protect their race.
Rhazes turned his attention back upon the Firani Drakeinian before him. "Did you have a better idea?"
Anodyne glared a bit, not liking one word that came from her fellow Drakeinian's mouth. Of course strong words wouldn't work, they would think of them as monsters and attack on sight. Plus, the fact that she was talking with this bandit leader didn't help anything. Anything he did would cause a strong reaction from the other races. They needed to show that they were equal, but not by force.
"I don't believe that violence is the answer. Of course, we can all go in and take down a small town or village by force. But with this matter, it will only make things much worse than they need to be. I fear you are right about the other races rediscovering the ways of Bonding. I'm just afraid that if we go about this the wrong way, it will only end in bloodshed." she said, standing from her chair, grabbing her cloak, and swinging it back upon her body, strapping it with the gem.
Rhazes shrugged. "Seeing the history of this current war, I don't think asking nicely will exactly work. Each race wants a way to boost their own side and they might just see us as a means to that end. Add in that the Bonded are nothing like a real Drakein in mind or power and you have three races underestimating the power of our own as they slowly enslave us all."
He rose as well, shaking out his cloak and raising the hood. "I must see things for myself before anything is done. Perhaps things are not quite what they seem, though I fear that these rumors are for once based in truth. Fear will spread quickly through the Drakein as word of these Bonded spreads. If we do not act soon, chaos will reign among us."
Anodyne grew weary as what Rhazes said rang true. If they weren't to act fast, the other races would surely outweigh their own and chaos would reign.
A deep sigh could be heard as Anodyne looked towards the ground. "I fear you are right, Rhazes. But I will not take the violent route. There has to be a simpler way than causing more chaos than need be. If we are to work together to stop more Bonding from occurring, than we must agree to meet that goal. We must also gather as many Drakein and Drakeinian brethren as we can. I'm sure you have many followers, and I have mine. If we combine our forces, we will be much stronger. My only rule is that we first speak to the leaders of the other races. We cannot, and I will not, barge into their territory and demand anything by force. Do I make myself clear?" she said, eyes narrowing towards the end. This was a serious threat to their Drakein brethren. Bonding was wiped out years ago until recently. Now these rumors were coming true. Bonding was occurring once again. This was not good for the Drakein race. Not good at all.
Rhazes could see that while Anodyne saw the truth of his words, she was still reluctant to act violently. This he could read from her body language before she even spoke. And her words only confirmed what he'd already read about her. But he could concede to her rule. After all, he saw no reason not to. The leaders would not listen to them, this he was sure of.
"I can concede to your wish. We will speak to the leaders. But if they do not listen, I will not continue to throw words at them," he warned. "I will speak with Draco. He will be the least likely to listen to words and my forces are better prepared to fight now. You can speak with Aevah and Marcus. Then we can plan from there," Rhazes stated, fully anticipating having to draw up war plans upon their return.
The golden scaled Drakeinian nodded. She couldn't ask for anymore than his cooperation at this point. There was nothing more to do but follow up on the newly set plan.
"Agreed. We will return here when we have spoken to the other faction heads. Good luck, Rhazes. It was a pleasure to make your acquaintance." Anodyne spoke, lifting her hood and gently letting it fall atop her head. She then began to exit the cave, thinking of how to deal with both the Dovaa and Orderite leaders.
The darkness of the night abound in every direction the farther she moved from the cave, but if they were to follow through with their plans, things had to happen as quickly as possible.
Drakein Decree
Brethren,
Your worries and fears over these recent rumors have been heard. I, too, fear for the future of our race now that the Magescians have rediscovered the Bonding Spell. But fear not! For Anodyne and I have traveled to speak with the leaders of the other races and have reached agreements with all three that our race and our nests will be left alone. The Orderites and Oblivionites have asked for our help in their war which any are free to give if they so wish. The Dovaa have greeted us with open arms as the cousins that our two races are and have agreed to protect us as family.
Our future is once again safe. No longer will we have to worry about our young being enslaved to the Magescians. No longer will we have to worry about being mistaken as a wild dragon and attacked. Now is our time. Now is the time of the Drakein!
Rhazes
Orderite Decree
My Fellow Orderites,
As you may all know, the war is still weighing heavily upon us. The gods are not quelled by silence, and thus it has come to pass that a new ally is abroad. These are the Drakein, a dragon-like race able to help us fend off the evil Oblivionites. They will give us strength. It is a process which these Drakein call, Bonding. It allows our souls to be bonded to theirs, increasing the magical power and strength of both parties. We have been given the honor to fight alongside these tamed beasts, and thus, we must go obtain some for ourselves! Arise champions, and help us take back what is rightfully ours! Magesc itself!
Aevah Avi
Oblivionite Decree
Warriors,
We have the opportunity to take advantage of a new weapon. They are called the Drakein; a race that has been in hiding for many years. However, it has come to my attention that these beasts are able to provide us with more power. The Spell of Bonding, as it's known, is what allows us to harness this power for ourselves. Adding this magic to our arsenal is of first importance. They ask that we come in peace, but we must do what is best for us! The Great Engagement is not over, dear warriors, it has only just begun!
Draco Verrano
Dovaa Decree
Friends,
It has been brought to my attention that another race exists that was previously unknown. This race, or the Drakein as they call themselves, may look like dragons, but they are quite different. They have asked that we not fight them as we would the other dragons, but instead that we work with them. It seems that the Drakein can bond at hatching and if anyone is interested, please seek out a Drakein or Drakeinian to request an egg. The Drakein are not fond of this bonding, however. Please refrain from stealing eggs as this will make our new friends quite unhappy.
Marcus Ysaride
It has been a week since the decree's have been sent out and most everyone in Magesc has heard about these new creatures. The raids of the Orderites and Oblivionites have commenced, and many Drakein eggs were stolen. This left the Drakein race quite unhappy. Now, threats are beginning to pour from all directions. A new race has been added to the Great Engagement. What side will you take?
Kadryn was sitting on the beach looking out over the water as she thought about the decree that Aeveh had sent out and her last conversation with Grrel. Grrel had been pretty pissed and happy at the same time. A rather odd combination of feelings that Kadryn had found entertaining to watch. She'd been upset about the enslavement of a Peisio Keinling to a dovaa but so happy about a message from somebody called Rhazes. Apparently the Drakeins had contacted the leaders and they had come to an agreement not too raid nests.... at least that was what the Rhazes person had said. But this declaration by Aeveh told a different story. She was advocating the theft of Drakein children! All for power in a war that was stupid and had no purpose now that the Gods had left! And if what Grrel had said was the truth, then Aeveh had promised to not raid the nests... Had she lied to the Drakeins? But why? She was supposed to be the good one, the kind one, the one that could be trusted to always tell the truth; and here she was, lying to the Drakeins and telling her people to steal their eggs, their children!
Kadryn was rather puzzled, what was she supposed to do? Her leader was telling her to go steal the children of her new friend's people! Kadryn did not agree with that; as a matter of fact, the mere thought of people stealing children away from their parents for power pissed her off. She would not kidnap children! Never....
The happy-go-lucky Kiandri Dovaa and his new pal had been quite oblivious to most of what had been happening on Magesc. Sure, he'd seen the decree from Marcus, but he hadn't stolen Sparky's egg. He'd found it and saved it! And he didn't fight the Drakein. He wasn't sure why the Drakein were not fond of the bonding between himself and Sparky as Sparky was very happy about it all.
And so it wasn't until he'd been out looking for a dragon to fight that he'd stumbled across a group of Oblivionites stealing eggs from a Drakein nest. He had almost charged in to fight them all off, but there were a good number of them and they had already killed the mother.
Now Samril was torn on what to do. He still felt guilty at letting those Oblivionites take the eggs, but even if he had managed to save them, how would they have survived? With no mother, he would've had to find another Drakein... or take care of them himself, which seemed to go against what the Drakein wanted, from what Marcus had said.
So instead, Samril and Sparky had decided to patrol about Eowyn and see if any other groups were out to steal eggs or if this had been a rogue group they had stumbled upon.
Grrel had been in a towering rage for a few weeks now; first there is the decree that there will be peace and no more raids, then the two-leggers turn around and step up on raids! Those leaders had been lying, had they thought only of the power to be had and nothing of the lives enslaved?! She had been busy chasing away and attacking egg thieves where she could; if they were anywhere near a nest, she attacked. She'd been flying about Serenia and Eowyn constantly these last few weeks, always on the look out for thieves. She'd seen all three races at it too.. more Oblivionties and Orderites than Dovaa but all three were guilty in her eyes. Why was it that Kadryn was the only nice one of these two-leggers? Or was she just meeting the dredges and worst of their society and the decent people were hiding from her?
One thing that Grrel had noticed was a Kiandri dovaa.. plus his Kiandri Keinling... But he was... was he patrolling too? She had seen him distract some groups of potential egg thieves and had also been deliberately noisy a and alert Drakeins to his, and the thieves, presence. Well, maybe he was a decent person... but he'd also stolen an egg already! Though the Keinling looked to be old enough that the bond must have been made before the decree..
And so today found Grrel peeved, but curious, as she had encountered the bonded Kiandri pair yet again. What to do about this Dovaa, he should be an enemy but was helping the Drakeins and warding off thieves....
Grrel lashed her tail angrily from her perch upon a cliff that overlooked the two Kiandri's. She couldn't fight him like that last Dovaa; this one was much stronger... and she'd learned that killing the two-leggers only killed their enslaved Drakeins. So a fight was out of the question, either she died, or the child died; neither a good option. Hmmm, perhaps she would attempt to talk to this one... from a distance of course. He had been .. well, helping her side hadn't he?
Things had been rather strange lately in the world of Magesc, at least to the young Thea. Only just over a week ago she had begun seeking training for what Aevah had required as mandatory dragon hunts. And now this sudden degree to not only use the Drakein but Bond to them as well? The entire idea seemed just a bit odd to the young Orderlite.
Yet as she sat on the corner of a broken wall, Thea felt her mind wander through their entire idea. Of course there was the fact she had just lost her beloved pet bird that made the idea of having another creature so close feel alien. An added benefit would be that it was another power versus the dark Oblivionites. And what if those dark ones were going after the eggs too?
Sliding off her seat, Thea began to slowly stroll. "So on one hand we separate mother from child but on the other, we gain an advantage. Aevah, you have made this an interesting choice." Thea whispered to herself as her two natures did battle: the kindness that was her race versus the desire for action.
There was a certain excitement that had been running through Tamri ever since he had seen the decree. He had never heard of the Drakein before then, but having heard they were much like dragons only better, he was quickly interested. His favourite stories when he was a child had been the ones about dragons.
He was just coming of ago too, being old enough to start dragon hunting. It seemed like it was the best time for this to happen. It gave him an excuse to be away from home, and his father, and a certainly great adventure that would certainly translate well into a story he could tell his brother. Diri would love it too if Tamri were to come home with a Drakein of his own.
So he was determined, he would find an egg and make it his own. Though he had risen early he didn't set out until later, with packing a few supplies and taking care of a few things at home. It was a bit of a rough start really, but he knew it could only get better, he was doing what his leader had asked him to. What could go wrong?
It had not taken Samril long to realize that he kept running into the same Drakein over and over again. The Kiandri Dovaa with the purple horns had beat him a time or two to a group of egg thieves, though he didn't always see the Drakein during his patrolling.
Samril was not happy with how many groups he'd spotted trying to steal eggs. Marcus himself had said that they were to treat these Drakein as friends and work with them. Hadn't the Drakein talked to the other races as well? Why were there so many Oblivionites and Orderites hunting eggs? The Kiandri Dovaa was sad to admit that he'd spotted a few Dovaa out as well stealing eggs.
The pair had paused for lunch and a drink in the shade of a high cliff. And now he was trying to decide in which direction to head. It was mostly just picking a random direction and walking to see if he ran into any raiding groups. Either he'd been extremely lucky so far, or there were a lot of groups out there, which he was afraid was the truth.
As he was scanning the area, Samril spotted that purple-horned Kiandri Drakein once again. Was it just him... or was that Drakein watching them? He glanced down, then gave a sigh and looked up again. "You gonna just sit up there all day or are you gonna say hi?"
All of the increased activity on Eowyn and Serenia had not gone unnoticed by the Drakein. More and more nests were being raided and the doting parents killed or run off. Too much was too much and the Drakein were very unhappy with this turn of events. They had been told their eggs were safe, but now groups were coming just to hunt down nests with eggs!
Anger flowed freely among the Drakein and many felt something should be done about it. So when a few overfliers noticed several Magescians on Eowyn, they let that anger take over. Giving loud cries, the Drakein dove down toward the varoius Magescians from the south.
While the Drakein could easily attack, it could be noticed that they were not. They were merely diving close enough to frighten and drive the various Magescians northward...
Kadryn (on Serenia)
As she sat pondering on Serenia's beach, Kadryn heard sounds in the distance that sounded like Grrel throwing a hissy-fit. Curious, she got up and walked towards the sound a bit. It was too deep and there were too many voices for it to be just Grrel, but they were definitely sounds of angry Drakeins. Standing on top of a sand dune, she shaded her eyes as she peered at the figures in the distance. ... Were .. were the Drakein herding some Apprentices?
"Strange, why would they run them off... Oh wait, egg thieves. That's probably why " She sighed and shook her head. "Well, at least these ones are just being run off for their stupid attempt at thievery instead of getting killed. Grrel would probably try to kill them..."
Stretching her wings, Kadryn took to the skies and began to slowly fly towards the scene.
.
Grrel(On Eowyn)
Grrel flinched and growled at the sound of the Dovaa's voice. Blast! She'd been spotted! What to do... Well, he was trying to talk ...
"Hmmm. I need to treat him carefully, he's much to powerful for me to take on alone.." she muttered to herself...
Standing up and fluttering her wings daintily, she responded, "I am sitting up here trying to decide what to do with you. You, thief, are strange." She looked pointedly at the Kiendred at the Dovaa's side, "You've already stolen one egg, but you chase off other thieves. Why?" The young Drakein by his side was old enough to have been stolen before the lies of the two-legged leaders, so he must have been one of the first to rediscover the bonds.. Perhaps he was the one to blame for the discovery of it by the two-leggers?
Rosetta was quite confused about the decree. A new race? Here? How can we be sure that they won't turn on us once we've let them in our homes, our businesses, our lives? And how does this 'bonding' occur? It sounded too good to be true. It looked like most of the people in town were searching for these Drakeins... So why should she bother? She wasn't quite sure she could handle living with another species right out of the blue, just because it was decreed that we should. Boosted magical powers sounded good, but how did that work? Rosetta tried to ponder through all of these questions in the center of town, by carving bits and pieces away from a piece of wood. A cool gust of air tugged at her curls, causing her to smooth them back out of the way. She hummed a tune quietly while she worked, her mind lost in thought.
Only when her feathers were littered with wood shavings and her final product was a dainty wooden stylus (for her clay creations) had she noticed the eerie silence. She lifted her chin and scanned the sky, the creepy sense donning on her that she might me in the calm before the storm. Suddenly, the sound of giant wings filled the air, causing Rosetta to jump to her feet, her head turning every which way. Then she spotted them. Three fully-grown Drakein rising near by. Startled, she slid the stylus into one of her boots and bolted to the forest, heading north.
Under the canopy of lush green leaves Rosetta sped, dodging roots and stumps and rocks and bushes. The wingbeats faded and she came to the other side of the forest. Her hands on her knees, she tried to catch her breath. What was that about? According to the decree, the Drakein were supposed to be friendly. A new noise set her off again, but it was more hushed, like it was coming from far away. Then she spied the noise: it looked like several more Drakein were circling and diving at a couple of people! Still breathing heavily, Rosetta decided to watch and wait for a moment, trying to decide her plan of action.
[Samril/Sparky - Eowyn]
Samril blinked in confusion. "What?" He glanced at Sparky, then back up at the adult Drakein. "I didn't steal his egg. I found it. Alone. Not in a nest at all! I didn't even know it was an egg... not really." Samril sighed after this. Shouting up at the Drakein was making for a rough conversation. "Can you come down so we can talk more easily? I won't hurt you, I promise." Plus, he wasn't entirely sure how tough this Kiandri Drakein was. For all he knew, she could make a grease spot out of him, but he had a feeling she wasn't very tough or she would've confronted him earlier about Sparky instead of watching from a distance.
With a long sigh, Samril sank to the sand beside Sparky and sat. They should be working together to stop the egg thieves, though they had been unintentionally doing so in the past.
Kioda - Eowyn
Kioda babbled quietly, her eyes alert for any troublesome Magescian's. Some had made wonderful friends and some made great enemies. She was trying to sneak off a large ship that had carried her from Serenia all the way to Eowyn. Fluttering her wings open, Kioda looked about. She had seen Grrel flying over head back in Serenia and had sneaked onto a ship in order to follow her. Now that she was here, she was having a hard time locating the bit Drakien. She wanted to show her how much she had grown. Not to mention games!
Picking a direction, Kioda had ventured forward. Taking mental note's of the landscape so she would be able to find her way back. Kioda found it disappointing she wasn't able to fly like her parents. Picking up traces of footprints fading away into the sand, Kioda sniffed. They seemed familiar, like a fellow Keinling. Ruffling her wings the small Keinling pressed onward.
It hadn't taken Kioda long to catch up with Grrel even on her feet. She was able to pick her out among the cliff side rocks. Picking up her speed, Kioda flapped her wings as she ran. "Grrel, Grrel!" Pausing her stride into a skidding halt as she caught sight of Sparky and Samril a way below her friend. Tilting her head to the side, Kioda wondered if a new game had come into play. Not that Sparky was all that much fun the last time they met. He didn't play games well, Grrel did.
Tamri (Serenia)
As it turned out there were a lot of things that could do wrong when trying to 'aquire' eggs. Tamri hadn't exactly had a solid plan on how he was going to find an egg, in his mind it was just something like stumbling upon one in a bush or something like that. It wasn't the most realistic of ideas but rarely did he ever have realistic ideas.
There would be no stumbling upon an egg for the young orderirte however. He would however find a few grown drakein. Having never seen a dragon or anything of the like in real life, he had realized they were a little intimidating. He had watched them soar through the sky for a few minutes, trying to steel his courage. If there were adults around, there were going to be eggs. Something was unsettling him though and making it a little hard.
It would seem that on top of it all, luck was not on Tamri's side. Moving too much or something of the sort had caused one of the drakein overhead to spot him. They were apparently not too happy see him and the draconic creature dove out him. Panicked he ran. The drakein snapped at him a few times, though it missed every time (though it was not trying to hurt him, not that Tamri knew that). It would not make an epic story for later...
Maslin and Lazuli ( Serenia)
The recent revelations of Drakein's existence to the general public had been nothing but trouble for Maslin and lazuli. They were either being bothered by people demanding to know where Maslin had found the nest Laz's egg had come from or being attack by feral drakein. Maslin had ended up drafted into a sort of city road patrol to deal with the recent rising dragon threat as the creatures became irritated by the abnormally high amount of traffic headed into and out of the wilds as people searched for Drakein nests.
Maslin himself had done his best to stay out of the whole mess and refused to help egg hunters in their quests. It had not been his intention to steal Lazuli as an egg and he had not known that the now Kindred would bond with him upon hatching. As it was, unlike so many of his peers the young man had no intention of using or abusing the bond. Lazuli was his friend, not simply another weapon to be used in a war he had no intention of fighting.
Lazuli gave sharp hiss as his eyes caught a small flock of flying Drakein on the horizon. The young Peiso drakein had no love for his kind, not with how they attacked his bonded and tried to steal him away when he was smaller. These ones were clearly up to no good as well and should be watched closely. He gave a short whistle to Maslin then bounded off to follow after the feral Drakein, assured that his bonded would follow quickly behind.
Maslin wasn't exactly confident about taking on multiple Drakein but he sensed no malice from laz right now, just a wariness that he could understand. It couldn't hurt to at least see what had gotten the feral's attention. Though, he did hope one day Lazuli would learn to wait before rushing headlong into potentially dangerous situations. While he was much larger than he used to be the kindred was no fighter and could not bluff his way out of every engagement.
Thea - Serenia
It wasn't hard to follow the latest wave of others looking for dragon eggs. Even if they had all been confused at first, now it seemed like many just wanted a 'pet'.
Thea wanted action.
Sitting around all day was boring and she had gotten her fill of thinking. So as she followed others in the direction of the nests, Thea did her best to move towards the front. Noises of a drakein kept her going as she slipped in and around rocks only to have one appear just above her. Only reason she knew...really large shadow now rested over her.
"This is why I want a sword...." Thea mumbled as she turned and looked for cover.
