Well this certainly was an interesting place. Ichika had never been a fan of the woods. she much prefered the open clear skys of the desert, or of a meadow. Mainly she just like being able to run in a straight line, but here with all the trees, it was difficult. Oh well, best to make a bad situation better. At least it was still light inside of the woods. There where some places that it was dark even in the day time, and she did not like that, so here was not so bad. Infact it wasent all that bad at all. At least there was a lot to explore, trees and bug to chase, little flowers that wanted her attention.

Ichika walked about, kind of just wondering around with no real goal in mind. It almost looked like some of the trees have faces, but she was not scared because she knew that they did not actually have faces, their bark just kind of looked like faces. She liked to make faces back at them none the less...just incase they actually were looking at her. Trees must feel so rejected, they look at you, but they always get ignored or laughed at because their faces arnt "real" but then again their faces arnt real so Ichika felt no problem with just ignoring them because they arent real. Except the ones that made really good faces, she would make faces at them because their faces were really good. Infact, this whole conversation she was having with herself gave her an idea for a poem...

"The trees they see
but you dont look at me
the trees making faces
they dont care about races
the trees want to be noticed
but you walk away you ignoring jerk
the trees making faces
they are all stuck in the same places
too bad they cant move
they just have to wait for more people to walk by..."

well it didnt really make sense, but the trees probably enjoyed the company so she did not mind if it did not rhyme because the trees probably enjoyed the company.

Whirling violet eyes snapped open as a distant voice drifted between the tree trunks and tickled his ears. Vorpal stirred, sending ripples dancing across the deep pool's surface as he launched his heavy black body through the water, using his tail to guide his movements while his leathery wings propelled him foreword with graceful agility towards the shore. When he reached the shallows he stood, water streaming from his thick coat and filling the hoof prints in his wake as he trotted into the shadows of the trees in the direction of the sound, his swirling markings easily breaking up the shape of his body and allowing him to blend almost seamlessly into the gloom except for the gleaming golden horns and claws which glowed softly in the sunlight filtering between the trees. He had been wandering outside of the tum tum tree forest for nearly a fortnight, never staying in the same place twice. Up until now, he had only traveled and hunted at night, it was strange to see the sun again. As he walked, he opened and closed his abnormally wide jaw regularly producing a peculiar snapping noise that he had always found oddly satisfying, but he quieted as he neared the pale mare. His ears perking up as he peered at her through the bushes, his eyes whirring dizzily back and forth as he observed her, fascinated by the clawed forefeet and feather like mane and tail. A gleeful smile danced across his lips as he pondered whether to reveal himself or simply lurk for a while, unnoticed, as he pondered about the games they could play.

Do trees sing? asking a tree if it could sing would be like asking those human meat sacks if they can run before they can crawl. "of course a tree can not sing, how could it when it cant even talk, but at the same time i might be offending one, even if it cant talk it might be able to hear." even if it cant talk it might be able to hear her, good thing she gave them all a poem to think about. perhaps they would like another poem. at this point she was kind of but not really talking to one or more trees in the general direction that she was facing...

"lets see, a good poem for you, well it is darker than earlier and you are taller than you were yesterday so consider today to be an accomplishment because yesterday you were smaller than you are today and it was darker than it was today. But nevermind the fact that it is getting darker because thats wht it does at night. you see it is not scary because it will get lighter again, even if it takes a while it will get lighter again even if it takes a while...wait I already said that, sorry."

she walked up to a rather large tree and placed her claws on it. could trees feel? can it feel her touching it? probably not, it can probably only feel the harshest of touches because of its thick skin. her claws were strong though, maybe she could help it feel.

"Surely you will thank me because it must have been a while since you have felt anything but the crawlers under your bark so i will help you feel again."

at this she took a few steps back and then lunged forward and dug her claws deep into the bark of the tree leaving six trails in the bark that exposed the trees inner wood. Ichika stepped back and admired her work. there was a bit of sap starting to ooze from the exposed flesh of the tree.

"oh, you are bleeding, so you must be alive. im glad i told you a poem, you can use it to hold onto while your wounds heal. remember my poem and think of me while your wounds heal because i am the one that reminded you that you are alive."

His head tilted slightly as he pondered her words, it was not the first time he had observed others carrying on animated discussions with various forms of flora, but none of them had ever seemed so clear headed. His eyes widened slightly when she attacked, her claws digging deep gouges into the tree's tender flesh. "Curiouser and curiouser" he muttered to himself softly, grinning wider as he slunk closer, his long tail swishing back and forth like a playful kitten. This was going to be fun.

"Hello there!" Vorpal called out in a singsong voice as he broke free of the underbrush, deciding in a moment of clarity that sneaking up on a creature with knife sharp claws instead of hooves as per usual would probably not be beneficial to his health, regardless of how much fun it would be to make her jump. "This may be a bit foreword, but I must admit, I've never seen a creature quite like yourself before. What are you exactly?" his ears swiveled as he stepped much closer than was probably appropriate, unabashedly leaning down to stare at the claws that fascinated him so and reaching around with his flexible tail to brush them lightly before straightening and gazing unblinkingly into her eyes with disturbing intensity.

Ichika jumped at the sound of a voice. well not a voice, the voice belonged to someone. well not someone, but something was more appropriate in this case. she was having a hard time putting the voice and the creature together. surely a monster like that should not be able to talk, but rather she expected more gurgling and hissing. but of course she was being rude, obviously he could talk...he?...he could talk. but he was not usual at all. a tail like a fish with horns that she wanted to compare to a ram but could not, and well at least he had hooves...and wings. wow there was just so much going on that she really was having a hard time forming sentences. it also wasnt helping that he twisting eyes were staring her down, the poor thing wasent really good in social setting...well then this should be easy because he was obviously not social and this was in no way a social setting at all so Ichika felt like she could be herself without holding back because he was obviously not holding back.

Ichika quickly composed herself from the stunned moment that his appearance brought. she returned his gaze with her own rainbow eyes and refused to look away. "Tail like a fish and wing that dont fly, your horns look sharp, but not as sharp as your eye. you say im odd but i dont know what you see because the one who is odd here is you not me. my claws are sharp, sharper than your eye. i am a hippogryph, but i lack the wings to fly. fish like a tail and wings...can they fly? you say i am odd and i might be, but i say what are you with your twisting eye." all the time she was stepping ever so closer to the beast till they were almost touching. she was not afraid of him. he is like the tree with the bark face, not scary once you know what you are looking at. everything has an explanation, even if that explanation is made up, at least it is still explaining something.

"A... Hippogryph" He repeated slowly, tasting the unfamiliar name and chuckling to himself a little inanely at the sound of it as he scuffed a hoof in the dirt.

"I am a snapper, if you will... Of the frumious variety to be specific, Some refer to me simply as the Bandersnatch in my homeland, Vorpal is what I call myself though, and you may as well. Most find it easier to remember." He swished his tail a little at her comments, finding her rhyming verses intriguing, he bobbed a little with every rhythmic verse.

Shaking his head, Vorpal stretched his leathery wings to their full expanse and flapped them a few times, circling around the Hippogryph in a little dance that left him feeling a bit dizzy, "No. Never much had the urge to fly, too many trees if you get my meaning." He peered around at them suspiciously, twitching the tip of his tail back and forth, "they're watching us I think." he added in a hushed voice, "Always" his voice dropped to a low hiss as his expression darkened and his smile grew.

"What are you called, little hippo-gryph, and from where do you hail?"

for a brief moment Ichika was reminded of his large size as he spread his wings, but she did not let it intimidate her. she did not know what this bandersnatches intentions were, was he going to eat her, or was he simply just an odd sort? until she knew she would not show fear, not that she was scared, she just would not show fear. she could show other emotions, just not fear.

"well Vorpal you say, and Ichika i say. i traveled far to find a place to stay. it was from the deserts that i stray, but these trees are nice, like a little heaven slice."

what on earth did he mean by they were watching? did he mean the trees? if he did then she believed him because if you refer to her earlier conversation with herself you will see that trees are very much alive. not only are trees alive, but they can feel too. and if something can feel then it most surely can see right? and if it can see then it can most surely feel as well, so trees must be alive. on the other hand, if he did not mean the trees then Ichika was not sure what to think because she could not see anything. she looked to her left and right and even turned in a little circle to check behind her, but there was nothing in her line of sight that was looking back at her. none the less, she spoke in a hushed tone as to be respectful to the Bandersnatchers request.

"are you afraid of the trees? surely a thing like you would not fear the trees, but if you do then that may be, but you see i do not fear the trees. even if they could talk and see and be, surely it would not matter because i do not fear trees, it is the trees that must fear me."

Vorpal's lips twitched as he listened to Ichika's mesmerizing verses, a desert? Dessert? "You come from a place called dessert?" He crowed with laughter, his large shoulders shaking with mirth, "I've never heard of such a place, but it sounds.... sweet." He giggled at his pun and then peered around at the trees once more. "I've never trusted trees," he confided to Ichika in a low voice, "Although I suppose some must have their good points. But fear them, no, they are nosy creatures but I simply grin and bear their shortcomings, and they do keep the sun off quite nicely. "

"I do wonder though... Why of all places in this land you chose to come here, strange things are rumored to live here, haven't you heard? You must be quite mad to visit, Ishika, unless of course, you've lost your way... I could help you find it again... If you wish..."

His eyes glinted mischievously as his addled mind tumbled to another subject, "Do you like swimming, Ichika? Or games, I know some marvelous games if you're of the mind to play."

Ichika loved games! But this stranger was kind of sinister looking. But it was rude to not want to play with him just because he was odd looking. And it wasent like they were even strangers. She knew his name and he knew hers, so they were no longer strangers so there was nothing wring with playing with him. For a moment she wondered if he was going to eat her. But that again was rude, for all she knew he could like to eat plants. If he does not trust trees then he must be ok with eating them. She had better to get him to trust her otherwise he would be ok with eating her and she did not want to get eaten.

“I cant be lost because I am found. Found by you so I am not lost. But these rumors you say of odd things here, I am not mad I just...” Ichika paused what was it to be mad? She knew the feeling of anger but she hardly doubted that thats the kind of mad that Vorpal was talking about. “I am not mad I just travel around and I heard that these woods made a nice nest. The trees are tall and the cover is thick if there are others here then I might be a good fit. But that is all subjective and I dont like to explain, so lets forget this and go play your game. I warn you though that if this is a trick I will claw at your belly and you will be sick.”

"If you're here, you can't help but be mad Ichika, everyone in this part of the forest is mad, some a little, some much more, I know a fellow who is completely off his head, at least I think I do.... Perhaps you don't have as much as the rest of us though, you have only just arrived after all, it stands to reason, And the rest of us have much more experience, Wonderland changes a person." He raised one brow questioningly, "A nest, like a bird?" He chuckled, "Well we do have plenty of sticks if that's the sort of thing you're looking for."

He glanced uneasily at her claws before his whirling gaze crept up to meet her eyes once more. "Perhaps... Perhaps my version of a game is not the best idea after all" he amended, "If you're not fond of tricks, that is. What sorts of games do you play in dessert? I had thought we might frolic a bit in the poison ivy or go for a swim with the snakes, but I think I'd like to keep my insides where they are for the moment. Does everyone have claws like that where you're from?"

Ichika was slightly puzzled by the use of the word mad. she was not mad, not at all. in fact she was quite enjoying this conversation, there were no angry words being said and this beast seemed intelligent in a strange way. she was not mad, but she decided to let that one slide. "In the desert we all have claws for digging and fighting and running. some fly and some dont, some have more claws and some have none. some have beaks that bite meat clean off, but not me. i just have my claws for hunting and my feathers to keep me cool in the hot sun, but suns not hot here."

Ichika paused for a few moments and looked vorpal up and down again, taking in every feature of his odd and twisted form. how did she not see it before? she had seen hooks like his before. those claws on his feet were like the 'suti creatures from the other part of the desert. she never interacted with them much due to the whole fued thing, and Vorpal was so interesting with his fins. "there are also others in the desert that only have one claw on each foot."

Faithofthefallen

Vorpal's whizzing eyes regarded Ichika intently as knowing smile danced across his jagged mouth. Something within Ichika seemed to resonate with this place, and surely that meant something within her was not quite right, even if she could not see it herself. That was fine with Vorpal, he would enjoy her company regardless.

"For digging you say?" he asked, gaping a little with astonishment, "What a clever Idea, I never thought to use my claws for anything other than disemboweling little critters." He mused casually, the thick trunk of his tail whipped out to wrap lightly about Ichika's foreleg impulsively as he drew closer, careful not to cut her with it's spikes. "I have only one claw on each foot...." He replied automatically pondering this revelation, "How very curious, but I know where I come from, and it is not this 'dessert' you speak of." He stroked her leg gently, "It was a Wonderland. Beautifully twisted and full of creatures and peoples that would boggle your mind, but its gone now.... And I must amuse myself with this new world..." His expression grew grave and his eyes sad as he stared off into the distance for a while and then shifted back to his companion. "well, now that you are here, whatever your reasons, what shall we do?"

Ichika flinched as his tail pulled her closer, but she let it happen. he may seem like a hulking beast, but she felt no threat from this dark creature, not right now. this truly was turning out to be an interesting adventure. what had started as just a simple walk through the woods was becoming a day filled with intrigue and wonder. the more this creature talked the more that she could tell that he was slipping, or maybe he had already slipped, or maybe he had been gone for a long time and was just coming back, or maybe he was just leaving and would not be back for a while. what ever his deal was she could care less, as long as he wasent going to try and eat her then they would get along just swimmingly, for Ichika had a natural talent for making friends, and who knows, maybe he would make a good friend in the future to have.

"I am here because i am here. so because i am here i should make being here worth while, is it not so?" she shrugged and thought for a bit. out of habit she lightly traced the dirt with her claws while thinking. little circles like the ones on her coat appeared on the ground as she traced. a game would be fun, even if she wasent much for games she had a feeling that the kind of people you play with makes all the difference. as she traced, her foot got closer and closer to Vorpal. finally she just reached forward and touched his large claw hers, but then she snapped out of her thinking trance and addressed Vorpal, his whirling eyes staring at her. "im not much for games, but you interest me and this place interests me because it is an interesting place and you are an interesting creature, so a game only seems aprppriate. you play games do you not? surely there must be games you like to play, one as strange as yourself, but no funny business, if you try to eat my i will claw your eyes out."

Faithofthefallen
PostPosted: Mon Apr 22, 2013 12:11 pm

Vorpal grinned deviously, "Not to worry dear, I shan't try to eat you. I suppose I could, but I don't imagine you'd taste all that delightful... No offense meant, but I prefer fish. Land animals are a bit too gamey for my taste." He stared at her a bit too long however and clicked his jaws thoughtfully before turning to face the trees once more, his spiked tail loosening its' hold on her leg without harm.

"I suppose you're right." He agreed after a moment, "You're simply a wanderer... A Traveler... As long as you're here, you should enjoy the unfamiliar sights and experiences we have to offer, you're a regular 'alice' in these parts after all...I can show you around." It was difficult to tell if the glance he shot over his muscled shoulder was menacing or friendly. Of course! I have many games in my repertoire... Do you like to swim Ichika? Or we could play hide and seek, further in of course." He trotted over to the edge of the well lit main road and parted the heavy bushes and branches with his tail to open a door to a smaller, beaten earth path that wound deeper into the tum tum tree woods. It was dark, even this close to the edge, the trees made it difficult for light to penetrate. Still, the glowing mushrooms dotting the flora lent an eerie illumination that made it possible to stick to the trail.

Vorpal's bemused unblinking eyes stared at Ichika in both challenge and invitation. "Coming?"

well now now this was really it, she was going to follow this half crazy fish beast into the deep odd looking forest full of strange creatures and who knows what else. Ichika laughed and followed Vorpal, after all this was an adventure and if there ever was a more adventurous place it would have to try really hard to beat this one. The trees seemed to watch the two no longer strangers as they walked through the forest together. Ichika did not like it when the trees watched her. it made her self conscious, but on the bright side at least there would be a witness to her death if Vorpal did indeed decide to eat her. good thing he said he liked fish, eating animals was an odd thing to her, but then again eating plants was probably and odd thing to him and she was no one to judge what one should or should not eat. except for those glowing mushrooms. "im not one to say what you should not eat, except for those glowing mushrooms. there are strange plants that i have seen but nothing like those mushrooms they look keen and if i was ever to say dont eat, that mushroom id say it too for surely your insides would glow too and attract more strange creatures to eat on you."
