Serenia was far from her favorite place in Magesc, but Eanah had come to reluctantly realize over time that Orderites crafted some things... better than her people did. It couldn't be helped, she supposed, nor did it matter in the long run. When this war was over, when the other races were subjugated under Draco Verrano, the Oblivionites would control all of these craft stalls anyway.

Having purchased all she had come for, the girl was suddenly acutely aware of the stares she was receiving. Hefting her satchel and brushing her fingers against the scepter than hung beneath her cloak for reassurance, Eanah left the bustle of the town and made her way to a nearby stretch of field near the forest, one of the first places she had ever taken down a Ysali. Well, perhaps "taken down" was a bit of an exaggeration. The dragon had fallen in her vicinity after a large tree branch had snapped its neck. And it had been chasing her.

None of the dragons nearby seemed terribly bloodthirsty today, at least not yet. She wasn't normally so keen on the lack of challenge Ysali presented these days, but one never knew when whims would change. For now she was content to stand at the edge of the trees, arms crossed, watching the dragons bicker and play.

Quiet moments where a rarity in Maslin's life these days, between training, dragon hunting and caring for Lazuli the young man rarely had any downtime. Some might say he could use a few more months of vigorous exercise yet but Maslin disagreed, he might not look like a model warror but he was quite happy with himself the way he was thank you. Besides this was all temporary he hoped by the year's end to have earned the approval to return to the path in life that interested and suited him most.

Today, was sort of one of those treasured quiet moments. At his aunt's request Maslin had been sent out to gather a rareish type of berry that existed for a few months of the year in very specific regions of Serenia. While he'd had no luck dragon hunting yet Maslin had been the only family member currently free who was also trusted to be able to take care of themselves out in the wild. Provided he didn't run into any of those damned poison breathing Ysali Maslin supposed he could adequately defend himself if simply running away wasn't an option.

Thankfully thus far he'd seen no dragons, although he'd also only found a few of the berry producing bushes. not nearly enough for his aunt's needs. The small, orange, bitter tasting fruit had medicinal purposes and the tonic's and salve's created with them fetched high prices. Of course Maslin doubted his aunt would sell anything she made, the group had her as their only dedicated healer and it was better to make and use your own supplies then trying to buy rare things during an emergency.

Giving up on the current patch of land Maslin headed for the treeline, if he recalled right there was a field between to parts of the forest, perhaps on the other side he'd find some more of the berry bushes. He gave a sharp whistle to get Lazuli's attention then stalked forward towards open space.

Lazuli, who had been digging at tree roots in search of bugs, jerked his head up at the whistle. His bonded spoke to him most of the time but also used the whistles and chirps that were easier for him to understand when he wanted his attention. The blue hided keinling left the hidden bugs to their slumber and followed after Maslin.

Oddly enough, she saw the boy's keinling first even though the draconic beast was trailing his master. Eanah somehow managed to stand a bit straighter when she saw who the creature was accompanied by, her lips quirking to one side in a half-genuine smile, half-wry smirk. She still thought hybrids were disloyal abominations, but she'd thoroughly enjoyed this one's callous reaction to that horrible chatty Orderite at the festival. Well, she'd mostly enjoyed it. She could have gone forever without the kissing comment. Curiosity also served to dampen the Oblivionite's unwarranted dislike in this instance. It seemed... Maslin, was it?... had obtained quite an interesting pet.

Eanah lifted her bag off of her shoulder and set it on the ground before picking her way closer to the pair, mindful of the young drakein's presence. She had heard there was a rising debate in some circles over the species, but any more than that she hadn't registered.

When she was close enough to be heard, the girl cleared her throat and strove to raise her voice over its normal volume. "Hello, Maslin. I hope you're doing well." She didn't much care how he was doing really, but it seemed a safe thing to say considering that he was standing upright and nothing appeared to be falling off.

Maslin had been surprised to see Eanah in the clearing between the two sides of the forest. He hadn't ever expected to actually run into the oblivionite girl again. He raised a hand in greeting and nodded at her question. " I'm fine Eanah, and you?" It was hard to really tell if she looked healthy for her kind, Maslin was inexperienced with them and had no idea how illness would present itself on her.

Lazuli dropped down to his belly and playfully crept closer to Eanah. The Keinling had never seen a person with skin so dark before!

Eanah stiffened and drew in a slightly sharper breath at the keinling's approach. The creature seemed amiable enough, but she didn't want to have to fight it if it suddenly got it into its head that she was a threat. She actually kind of wanted to pet it. A brief huff of laughter accompanied her faint smile, but it sounded more like a scoff. Thankfully, her voice was warmer than it had been, dampening her unintentional dismissal.

"I'm well. Who is this?" she asked, her posture relaxing again. She couldn't tell the beast's color, but it didn't seem particularly confrontational, only curious.

A distance away there was a low bellow as a young Ysali sniffed the air.

"His name is Lazuli, he doesn't talk too much yet." Maslin replied as he watched his bonded bellycrawl towards Eanah. He didn't think she'd hurt the keinling unless he hurt her first. Mentally he cautioned Laz to be gentle. The little peisio could sometimes do more damage than he intended to while playing.

He frowned slightly at the soft bellow in the distance. that sounded suspiciously like a dragon, one which Maslin would prefer to stay in the distance. He'd had no luck hunting the beasts so far.

Lazuli paused for a moment as he listened to the dragon call, he quickly dismissed it as unimportant and continued to move forward planning a gentle attack on her left foot. He was closer to the right so she would never except him to dart to the left at the last minute.

"They speak?" she breathed, her empty eyes snapping up to Maslin's face when she recalled whose company she was in. Eanah had heard tales of the drakein, many more in recent months for some reason, but she knew nothing of what they could actually do. She did know they grew a lot larger than this one, and that some were rumored to be quite fierce.

"Does... he... come and go as he pleases?" she asked. "How did you get him to stay with you?" The girl looked as though she wanted nothing more than to continue asking him things, but she swallowed and straightened instead, folding her hands in front of her and smoothing her expression. She knew this hybrid didn't like to be questioned, but she wasn't really asking about him, now was she?

"You don't have to answer if you don't want t—"

Eanah tensed and turned away, looking off toward the approaching dragon as it became obvious it was zeroing in on them. She glanced down at Lazuli as he pounced on her foot, giving the creature the briefest of smirks. "I hope he will fight for you, if nothing else," she said, reaching beneath her cloak for her scepter. "He might need to."

Maslin had been saved the effort of answering all of Eanah's questions for now but it seemed that he'd traded one inconvenience for another. " Laz is too small to fight" he stated as he shifted to be facing squarely off against the approaching beast. His little keinling might make an okay distraction but Lazuli was simply too young to be of any real use in battle. Maslin hoped it wouldn't matter in the end.

Lazuli gave a soft grumbled of irritated before skittering back behind the two magescans. The young peisio drakein had been having fun and now the dragon was ruining it. Someday he would be big enough to fight dragons and then they wouldn't be allowed to do such things.

All right. The drakein couldn't fight and a rampaging Ysali would be in their midst in under a minute. Eanah wasn't exactly panicking, but she was a little concerned. The last time she had gone after one of these particular beasts herself, she had nearly ended up dead. The last time she had seen a Ysali killed... Leyn had done it for her. Not only was all of that quite humiliating, it didn't bode particularly well for her company. Or herself.

But now was not the time for hesitation or reflection. Once her scepter had cleared her cloak, Eanah raised it quickly and sent a jolt of power barreling toward the dragon. The Ysali bellowed and flailed, planting its front feet and swinging its tail forward. The girl struck it once more, and a third time for good measure, taking in a sharp lungful of breath as its back end tumbled over its front and the air rang with the wet pop of a breaking spine. The creature's body kept going, pushing up grass and dirt as it slid to a stop nearby.

"I... I..." She had done it. She had actually done it! "I'm sorry that was so abrupt. I didn't want it to get any closer. I trust neither of you are hurt?"

Maslin stared at Eanah in shock, he had wanted to help, to at least try and be useful but it seemed that the Oblivionite girl was in no need of assistance. " We're fine" he replied quietly. If the war even got active again Enah was not someone he wanted to meet on the battlefield. Not that he intended to be on the battlefield to begin with.

Lazuli gave a whistle of admiration then crept forward to investigate the decaying dragon body. It was a very very dead dragon.. and he had successfully snuck an attack on one of her feet. The little keinling's chest puffed out greatly, he was the strongest ever.

"Yes. Well, I'm... glad." No, she wasn't. She was still quite flabbergasted to be honest, but she swallowed and lowered her scepter as calmly as possible, hoping to hide that.

Once the drakein moved forward to examine the dead dragon, Eanah relaxed slightly. She couldn't help the small huff of laughter that escaped her in response.

"You did very well," she told Lazuli. "I should... go." She had only come here to shop, and now that she had likely convinced some hybrid that she was a murder machine instead, it was probably a good time to leave.
