Adira finished her dance in the center of the oasis by the water, breathing heavily in the midday sun. It was always hot out in the desert but the mare managed just as well being born and raised here. Mares and stallions alike came to see her from all classes even the royalty there every so often when a grand meeting was required Adira and her troupe considting of Almas and Taahir their only male member would perform. Lately it had just been Adira and her son Taahir. Adira however had chosen today to perform alone giving Taahir some downtime to recuperate and perhaps spend with Almas, he'd seen how Taahir had looked at her lately. That thought only made her smile Taahir had grown up to be such a good boy from being such a rebellious child who didn't want to dance though he had great talent.
Adira couldn't help but smile at the thought a bit, such a silly child he was, a little laugh escaped her as she bid the last of her watchers farewell, causing her bells to jingle. A light green flash caught her dark brown eyes, he had come again it seemed. The mare smiled sweetly though it seemed rather mysterious behind her purple veil.
"Hello," she called to the lyra "Haven't I seen you before?"

Busted.
Odhiambo liked pretty things. Well, heck, who didn't? He liked bells, and he liked shinies, and he liked to watch things, and he liked to socialize, and, well, he liked a lot of things. He liked to see the dancers, too--always moving, always graceful, and so pretty, too! So he took every opportunity when he was "in-town," so to speak, to watch one of the dances. Every non-private dance when he wasn't away, as a matter of fact. He always watched, mesmerized, the performances, following each move with his bright, black eyes. As quietly as he could, he'd asked the others what the dancer's names were. Almas was very pretty, and Taahir gave an energy to the dances, but Odhiambo's favorite was the one who was at every performance, the chestnut. Adira. Oh, she was very beautiful, but he'd never talked to her. There never seemed to be an appropriate time for the shy trader to walk up to her after a performance and, y'know, get to know her.
The way she smiled behind her veil made him shiver. So mysterious! "Hello," he said. It sounded clumsy to him. "Um, maybe? I do like to watch you dance." Well, that didn't sound creepy at all. "I mean, I usually come to the performances, so maybe that's where you saw me?" His voice came out as a panicky squeak.

She was highly sought after by the lower class stallions who didn't care she had a child, there had been many time and time again many stallions had come to meet her after many dances to share their appreciation of her skills, they showered her with many gifts. Some very luxurious but she had refused all the advances in an effort to keep those stallions away from her she already had one son, it would look worse if she continued baring children. Not that it was easy for her to find a mate, when every stallion wanted the mare, she was beautiful and she knew it.
A light laugh escaped her, This one wasn't as smooth as many of the other stallions. it was rather cute, very honest, he didn't seem to be able to hide the fact he had been interested in her, she always watched to see who was in the audience, see who was a repeat customer and those with new faces.
"Many love to watch our troupe dance, You come often if I recall" she spoke gently she was certain she knew the trader Odhiambo, not Riad who was the other bird stallion "I'm sure you know my name, may I ask for yours?"

Odhiambo fluttered again in embarrassment. "I, um. I'm Odhiambo. And yes, I do come often. It is...It is fun to watch you dance?" He was babbling, or at least coming very close to babbling, and he didn't want to do that. He smiled feebly at her laughter. She probably wasn't laughing at him, but that didn't make him want to laugh. He also didn't know what, if not him, she could be laughing at. Private joke? Some event earlier, just now remembered? Or maybe she was laughing at him. It was an uncomfortable thought, and he pushed the entire line of inquiry from his mind. He didn't have that many friends, and he wanted to make some more. Perhaps he should stop being shy.
But he didn't know how not to be shy when talking to the mare he'd watched from a distance for some time. She was pretty, she was graceful...and he didn't know anything about her. "Do you mind that I come to every performance?" he asked suddenly. Anything to keep the conversation going, and it was a question now nagging at his mind. He might as well ask it, if only to ease his unease (though it might heighten it--oh, please don't heighten it!).

"I am glad to hear that Odhiambo, it is an honor to have you as an audience, without an audience what have I to dance for?" he was truly an honest sort, a rare type indeed, so many had hidden agendas for this or that, a dancer could always gather information because many didn't take a second look at her, other than lustful gazes but she did what she had to to live, though now here this herd was much better than where she was before, with Ryar as sultan and king, the looks and scandals had decreased significantly the King of Kings would not stand for such behavior and she had only allowed a single stallion to bed her since the beginning of the herd but that hadn't cost her as much as it could have previously.
The stallion spoke pulling her out of thought "Of course I do not mind, In fact it makes me happy to see starborn come continuously to our performances." it meant the troupe was doing their job and dancing was her passion, others could see it too and continued to come.
"Would you like to walk by the water?" she offered, standing still was going to cause her muscles to stiffen, a gentle walk would be enough.

"Yes, I suppose, I guess I hadn't thought of that," he mumbled. Of course dancers had to have witnesses! Well, not witnesses, that made them sound like crooks. Which they weren't. They were artists, and they needed, as she said, yes, an audience. But art could exist for its own sake...right? Surely there weren't just artists in herds, right? He'd never met any before arriving here, but... Eh, he was overthinking it, he was sure. This was a kind, intelligent mare who seemed to want to be his friend, and that was a wonderful, beautiful thing, as wonderful and beautiful as the mare herself. And it was nice to make friends; he had precious few in this herd. He liked having friends, but hadn't yet made many. He was shy, but gregarious with his friends. A paradox, he knew, but he couldn't help himself.
"I would love to take a walk with you," he said. "That is, if I'm not keeping you from any of your other duties? That is, I mean, do you have anything else you're supposed to be doing? Because I don't want to get you in trouble or distract you from something you'd rather be doing. But I would, yes, I would like to take a walk with you. It would be nice." Odhiambo tried a shy smile and his wings twitched.

Quite pleased he accepted her invitation she offered him another smile. Artists were only worth as much as what other's thought of their art. If it was not worth watching then it was worthless despite the work put into it. Adira had learned this lesson the hard way when she and the troupe were young.
Adira gave a light laugh "There is nothing you are keeping me from good Odhiambo, you are most kind to think of me." with her son quite taken with Almas it was best to give them some time alone. She could help but be happy for them, he was such a rebellious child when he was younger. it was almost sweet to see how he'd grown into such a fine stallion. Oh Allah, it was funny how the gods toyed with them. She couldn't help but hope she would see young grandchildren soon. More dancers for the troupe, she missed her old friends but was content where she was.
Odhiambo was quite adorable with that shy smile of his. "Don't be so nervous," she flicked her tail gently at his twitching wing brushing up against the feathers "I do not bite." with that the mare lead on for a time.

Odhiambo's heart soared even higher than a lyra's ever had before, he was sure! Having friends was among the finest of all life's pleasures. That warm glow of love filled his being, stronger than before. His wings fluttered in excitement. "How can I not be nervous, when a jewel of our herd has asked to spend time with me?" he asked. It was the first of many questions filling him right now. Why had she picked him out to talk to? How long had she been here? What could he do to make her happy?
The trader fluttered at the feel of her tail swishing against his wings. He followed along beside her. "Do you have any family here?" he asked suddenly. It had occurred to him that he knew so very little about Adira, even though he'd been watching her. He vaguely knew that she had a son who also danced with her. That didn't bother him as much as one might think--so she had a son? Another potential friend to get to know.

Adira smiled at him, jewel of the herd, She felt like she'd heard that line before. oh she chuckled she had from Taahir's father. She'd definitely seen stallions from other herds come watch what they'd think to be an exotic dance. She was certain he didn't quite mean it in such a tone so she continued to smile at him. he was quite sweet. "Your flattery is kind, thank you Odhiambo, I'd only except such nervousness if you were in the presence of Royalty." she teased him
Though she had Almas as well, they were a family of a sort. "Just Almas and my son Taahir, he's quite a handsome child isn't he?" She chuckled lightly while beaming proudly "Many of the mares adore him" unsurprisingly she'd seen a few stallions eyeing him too. Shame his heart was already taken there would be a lot of broken hearts there.
"And you? good trader what of your family?"

Well, she had a point there. Odhiambo had been in the presence of royalty before--it was definitely an occasion for nervousness If she did not want to be treated as royalty, well, that did make a lot of sense. Yes. He nodded internally. No one liked to be a source of nervousness, did they? So it was best to not be nervous at all around her, and simply take her as she was--as a common star and an uncommon dancer.
Odhiambo nodded. He recognized the names of the other dancers in the troop. "Taahir is very handsome indeed," he said. "And he's..." He stopped. It wasn't polite, what he'd been about to say. It was better to not say it at all. That is, it wasn't that it was entirely impolite, it was just that it was based on impolite suggestions and implications that she would probably not appreciate. "And he's a very good dancer," he said, hoping to all that was holy that she'd accept the brief pause there as just a stutter.
He shook his head. "No, not yet," he said softly. "Someday, hopefully. Family seems like such a fine thing to have." He glanced down at his hooves for a few seconds before turning back to her. "So, if I may ask, how did you first start dancing?" It seemed like a safe enough topic to discuss, and it prolonged the conversation. Besides, he was actually rather curious about it--had she always been a dancer, or had she only become a dancer after joining this herd? And could anyone learn how to dance, too?

"See isn't that a bit better" She chuckled as he seemed to relax if only just a little. "Yes, My son is very talented, his quite the eye candy for many being our only male dancer." she smiled back at the trader. Adira continued to gracefully walk beside the lyra.
The chestnut mare flicked an eye toward the Lyra "Is that so?" she said, though she didn't seem disappointing. She was curious why had he not found someone to settle with? "It is a wonderful thing to have, I love both Almas as my best friend and Taahir very much, I hope you find a lovely ." she also had Nahusha as well. She helped raise the Trader's other son ever since he'd arrived though he was off somewhere past the desert right now.
"It's been so long since someone asked me that," she laughed merrily "I was raised among dancers, and I found I loved it just as much, It's not much of a profession when compared to trading like yourself but I love it the emotion, music and grace of it all."

"Yes, he is." Odhiambo had seen quite a few mares--and even one or two stallions, he thought--admiring Taahir's dances. For some reason he'd always thought the boy should end up with the other dancer, Almas--they were cute together, and sometimes he thought he saw the young stallion flash her a look across the dance floor. It was an idle thought, really, one he'd never shared with anyone.
Odhiambo shrugged. He hadn't expected to be asked about family; no one had really asked him before (which was maybe strange now that he stopped to think about it). He had a pretty good idea why that was, but how could he phrase it without sounding like he was fishing for sympathy? He didn't want to seem desperate, or like he was manipulating her. He wanted...well, he wasn't sure what he wanted.
To not be alone?
Well...yes. But he didn't want to force anyone to be with him. Adira seemed like such a kind person that she might offer to be a friend for someone she pitied. He didn't like the sound of that (even if he couldn't explain why he didn't like the sound of it). But then again, the truth was the truth, no matter what...
"Yes, it is. I am...not very good at socializing. I do not have many opportunities to talk to mares..." He shook his head. "No, that's not true, I have opportunities, I just...rarely take them." He felt his cheeks grow warm at her well-wishes. "That's very kind of you to say."
He smiled at her. "Dancing seems like a very nice profession, most of the time. Trade is...rewarding, in its way, but it's a little...well, it's a little lonely. The music and the emotion sound much more--much more fun than trading is."Ice_Dragon_Demon Today I learned that Taahir has a nosering. The more you know...

His answer was almost a shame. The stallion seemed so sweet and kind. It was a shame. She expected such a kind stallion to have a family already. he seemed though a bit hesitant very kind. then again maybe it was for the best. Adira smiled the stallion was very honest and kind "I think you're quite charming, Odhiambo."
The mare chuckled softly flicking her tail idly. Trading did indeed sound lonely but she could see his wish still. "sounds to me like wish to start a family so you may have a warm welcome waiting for your return."
She much preferred dance, and she'd never give it up for anything "Dance It is a wonderful profession, though it's not for everyone, it's much more work than you'd think.

Odhiambo nodded. Work, yes, that made sense now that he thought about it. "It does look...well...you make it look so effortless. I guess that would take a lot of work. If it doesn't look very hard, then it must be very hard." He shook his head. "I'm sorry, Miss Adira, I'm not wording it very well. What I mean is, I think you are a really good dancer, and I think that your effort has paid off. I would not be as good a dancer as you are, I would get stage fright and just get frozen all the time. It would be very embarrassing."
Then Odhiambo blushed and fluffed his wings as he tilted his head down and away to the side in embarrassment. She had seen right through him, right through him to the core. What he most wanted in life...yes, yes, it was. It was exactly what he wanted, exactly what he had always wanted out of life, but never been able to get. Life was just...hard, and sort of piled on top of you, and to have a family, you needed to be ready to talk to people--especially mares, and that had always seemed so difficult. "Th-thank you, Miss Adira. I think you are very kind, and smart, and graceful. And..." He blushed harder. "Yes," he said softly. "I would like to start a family...I would like to have someone to come home to, and someone to work for...someone to...to be close with." He wondered if this was happening--was she going to offer him what he thought she would?

"Thank you." Adira smiled "You are not alone in that thought." she had known many to be quite frightened of performing in front of a crowd. Adira just did what she loved when she performed.
His blushing was adorable. He really was a sweet stallion. He'd definitely make a good mate. He was interested in her but she was somewhat hesitant in the fact she'd already had children with another. She was very much aware of what many in the herd thought of her as an unfaithful mare. Odhiambo though didn't seem to mind that much.
"Do you not think I would be a poor choice? After all I have a son already with another, wouldn't your customers be concerned?"
