1. Introduction

I hope this thread will help those unfamiliar with Chance Items give them a try and make some gold for themselves!

IMPORTANT NOTE:

Not all Chance Items have the same success. You must figure out for yourself and judge whether it will be successful or not. This is only a guide, and does not mean you should spend all of your gold on chance items. If you are unsure about a Chance Item, please ask us and we will give you our advice, but only buy them if YOU think they will earn you profit!!

What Is A Chance Item?

A Chance Item is an item that comes out monthly (often in form of the Advance Chance) with the option to buy singles or bundles. Singles are often more expensive (149GC) than buying the bundle (999GC or 111GC single.) The item is located in the SPECIAL tab of your inventory, and if you click it, a different story unfolds. As you pass through different pieces of the story, you can either try to go on (with the chance of failing) or stop and get the item you have earned. If you complete it all the way through, you get the rare prize (often worth about 5mil.)

Hoarding Chance Items, though, it is best not to open them and "try your luck". The Chance Item itself is what will raise in value. It is best to buy in bundles to save money, but singles still earn profit.

Make SURE you have PATIENCE!!! Chance Items do not raise to a hefty profit overnight, but they are GUARANTEED to rise, you just have to watch them and sell when you are happy with what you have made. The longer you hold it, the higher it will go up. BUT, the longer you hold it, the harder it is to sell as well.

2. Vending

Vending Chance Items is a very easy thing to do! It is important to build your capital before investing in CIs, because you want to be able to buy BUNDLES rather than SINGLES.

Example: Impractical Gala bundles, as of 1/10/13, are being sold for approximately 834,000 gold. By adding in the tax of the item (2%) the total amount you could sell a bundle for would be 817,320 gold, meaning each single Chance Item would be sold for 90,813 gold. The way to do this is to look at the singles and the bundles at the same time. Once in a while the bundle will be sold, using the Impractical Gala for example, for 820,000 gold (or less). The singles are currently being sold for 96,000 gold so if you are able to buy a bundle for 820,000, unpack it into singles and sell each single for 96,000, you would make approximately 30,000 gold in a VERY short amount of time!

It is VERY important when doing this to compare the two items. Buy the bundles as cheap as you can and sell the singles for as high as you are able. PATIENCE IS KEY. It may not always be worth it, as sometimes the bundles are more expensive than 9 of the singles. Dumpers also cause a lot of trouble for you trying to get rid of the rest of your singles. I have done this with nearly EVERY chance item and I have always found a way to make profit from it.

EDIT: I recently (1/10/2013) bought a Super Prize 2012 bundle in the marketplace for 1,350,000 after noticing that singles were selling for 174,000 a piece. 174,000 x 9 is 1,566,000, and even after tax, that is a pretty hefty profit. These are the types of things to look out for. I sold 4 of them for 174,000, and will most likely be selling the rest a bit cheaper (171,000 or so) because of the drop in price overnight. But for only holding an item for less than a day and making about 100,000 in profit, that is a BEAUTIFUL thing!!!

EXAMPLE

You go to the marketplace and search "Ships Happen" First you find the Bundle (9 Pack) and then you find the single. According to this picture:

The bundles are 900,000 gold and the singles are about 107,000 gold. 107,000 x 9 = 963,000. To be safe, lets say we are unable to sell all of our singles for 107,000 gold and we instead are forced to sell for 105,000 gold. If we sell all of them for 105,000 gold, we will make back 926,100 from the bundle that originally costed us 900,000. 26,000 gold is usually not worth the trouble, and you should instead be looking out for around 50,000 from it each time.

3. Hoarding

Hoarding offers a lot more profit than vending, but it takes more time to yield. Chance Items always tend to have a pattern, which is what makes them so easy to sell and make profit on.

When a new Chance Item is released, in the first day, the prices will be HIGH. The first few days is, in my personal opinion, the time you should focus on VENDING the Chance Items and not hoarding them until they drop lower. Chance Items often will stay in the cash shop for 20 days (at which point they will have dropped to their minimum value.) BE SURE to buy the Chance Items BEFORE the announcement is released that they will be leaving the cash shop soon. The prices tend to go up quickly when people find out it is leaving the cash shop.

By looking at the graphs of past Chance Items, you can visually see the drop and the rise. They start high, start dropping over the next few weeks, and then begin to spike up again. If you do not want to hold onto your bundles for very long, wait for the announcement and sell shortly after it has risen. If you have patience, they will rise more in time.
