Kallo grumbled to himself as he walked through the streets. The weather was unpleasant; not so abysmal to stop him from making the trip from one of the families he stayed with to another, but bad enough that now he was out in it, he wished he wasn't. The wind kept sending gusts of piercing cold wind; the sky was overcast and miserable; and the occasional drop of rain threatened to become more.
It matched his mood. The family he had just left were going away; those he was going to, although they'd left out some food for him and a way into the house, were visiting relatives; leaving in the early morning and coming back late at night. Not a terrible situation, but coupled with the foul weather it had brought his mood very low.
He shook himself as he continued; ears back and his tail flicking back and forth in his irritation. Hopefully getting into the warm would help soothe him, although right now it seemed like he had such a long way to go.

Zenko wandered though the mostly deserted streets. He didn't really have anywhere he was planing on going, he hadn't expected the weather to turn so unpleasant. The cold was expected for this time of year but the strong gusts of winds blew through his short fur and made it seem much cold, as well as knocking the bell on his collar around causing it to chime insistently.
A few drops of water fell on his face and he swished his twin tails as he looked up at the sky, it was defiantly starting to rain a bit more. He hoped it would only be a drizzle and not a complete down pour. Sighing softly the fox colored neko continued walking, hopefully he would find shelter somewhere. There was probably a temple or an abandoned building around here somewhere he could stay in until the storm passed.
He was glad that the streets where still dry, although with the way the sky looked there would be plenty of puddles soon enough. Turning a coner he almost ran into another Neko but was able to back up quick enough that they didn't collied.

Kallo danced backwards in surprise as another Maneki Neko- possibly as lost in his thoughts as Kallo had been in his own- turned the corner just as he reached it; the second male, one younger than himself, had backed up as well to avoid a collision. Kallo shook his coat to help soothe the fur along his shoulders, raised out of momentary surprise and less momentary irritation.
"I'm sorry," he spoke quietly, before taking a step to walk around the youngster; but then he stopped. He'd been irritated from the prospect of no company in the near future, and of having to continue through the weather and the possibility of it getting worse. It was possible that the orange-brown teen who he'd accidentally met could solve both those issues, at least until the weather either cleared up entirely or passed on. He flicked his tail in indecision; he wasn't a fan of strangers, but still...
"I don't suppose you know if there's any shelter nearby?" His mind half made up, Kallo finally spoke; aware that the teen might take the decision out of his control one way or the other anyway.

"It's fine, I should have been paying more attention" Zenko replied to the lightly brown male. He drew his twin tails closer to his body to keep the heat in as he stood chatting with the other. He flatten his fur down after it was blown up by a gust of wind going the opposite direction. He shook his head when the other asked if he knew where they could find shelter. "Unfortunately, I do not I was hoping to come across a place that was open or abandoned and it doesn't seem like this storm is going to be over any time soon."
The teen looked at the older neko for a moment. "I forgot to introduce myself earlier, I'm Zenko, It's nice to meet you." He hoped they would both be able to find shelter before the storm got to bad. He should probably plan his trips out better than just pick a direction and walk until he finds something interesting. Next trip is definitely going to involve looking up places to go in case of bad weather.

"Oh- ah, I'm Kallo." He looked curiously at the teen's two tails; he hadn't noticed them until he tucked them closer. He'd never seen such a thing; but then again, so many Maneki Neko out there were unique. He didn't pay it much attention.
"There... aren't many places around here that are abandoned," he commented; taking a couple of steps to hint that he planned to continue his journey- although his body language wasn't closed or unfriendly, and didn't suggest he wanted to be alone. "There may be a shop or restaurant or something, but I don't know of one- I never paid much attention before. Regretting that now," he muttered. "I don't fancy walking all the way if the weather gets worse..." He sighed, shaking himself again to fluff his fur up for warmth.

The tips of Zenko's tails twitched a bit when he noticed the other looking at them. He wasn't sure how the other would react to them, some people found them fascinating while others only saw part of them and assumed he was a nekomata and chased him off. Having two tails was completely different than having the forked tail of a nekomata. He was relieved when the other didn't seem too bothered by it.
Reading the other's body language He followed the older male as he started to walk. "Ah, it didn't look look like there would be many this part of town seems like it would be rather busy if the weather was better. I'm wishing the same of myself. A shop or something would be good, well I suppose just about anything would be better than being stuck out in the cold rain."

Kallo nodded, agreeing with his new companion. "This place is pretty well off, I don't think they'd leave a building empty." He glanced around at the houses; certainly not the grandest in town, but still very well-kept. One of the humans he visited for food sometimes lived in an area not unlike this, so he had some level of understanding.
He let out a snort when Zenko mentioned the weather. "It was stupid of me to come out. It didn't look that bad out the window, I thought I could get where I was going before it got really bad. I should have looked for somewhere nearby instead of trying to walk across town..." He shook his head and sighed. Nothing to be done about it now; instead, he kept his eyes open for a shop, a restaurant or cafe, or a temple. He knew that it was common to have small businesses and temples tucked away in residential areas; but finding them when he had no idea where they were would be a matter of pure luck. "At least we have two pairs of eyes to look for somewhere", he mused aloud.

Zenko continued to follow the path scanning for any place they could get into while listening to Kallo. "Ah, so you live in this town then?" He asked curiously. "I probably should have planed more than take a long walk to see if you can find anything interesting and hope the weather is good the whole time."
The fox colored neko stopped for a moment looking at a set of stairs, gazing up them he found a building that looked like it might be a temple. "I think there might be a temple up those stairs." He reported before he darted over and up them reaching the top he moved closer to the building and was pleased to find that he was right. Moving closer he was ecstatic to find that the door was open a crack. He quickly darted back to Kallo. "The door of the temple is not closed all the way, I think we can get inside."
He started to climb the stairs again, slower this time keeping pace with Kallo.

Kallo watched the younger male dart to the temple and bound up the stairs. He was much more energetic than Kallo was himself, it was in the way he moved; although age played a part, it was likely temperament did as well, which gave Kallo something to think about later. For now, he focused on the finding of shelter.
"Thank Inari." He murmured. "Literally, probably." He was aware that it was likely a temple to the more worshipped Goddess. Curious, and glad to escape from the weather, he climbed the steps and used his heavier weight to push the door open a little further- just enough for them to slip through.
The warmth from inside was clear even from here. He could see dancing shadows on the smooth stone walls, suggesting a fire was burning; someone was keeping an eye on the temple, and if they had lit a fire, it was probably to be a comfort for travelers. A slight smell of warm, comforting spices from the smoke reached Kallo's eager nose. They had, as a human might say, "struck gold".
He stepped back and nodded towards the doorway, indicating that Zenko could head into the temple first. Then he looked around the street; ensuring that nobody was watching them head in, or looked unwelcoming. Old habits died hard.

"Thank Inari indeed" Zenko agreed as they approached the door to the temple. Seeing the older male offering to let him go first he walked in side. "Yes, the fire here is deficiently a plus." The kitsune like neko sat down by the fire and bowed his head as he gave thanks to Inari for helping them find shelter.
He moved a way from the fire so he could shake his fur out without getting Kallo wet or accidentally getting to close to the flames. Once he was a bit drier he walked back over to the fire and laid down. His twin tails swished back and forth as he started to warm up again.
Looking over to the doorway he could see the rain starting to fall faster. "I wonder how bad it will get. If it gets to cold tonight the rain could turn to snow." He mused as he turned his golden gaze to the other.

Once he'd satisfied his subconscious paranoia that nobody was paying attention to them, Kallo followed Zenko into the temple, nudging the door closed behind him, leaving the small gap that had originally been there. As he looked around, his ears and nose working overtime, he thought that it might have been left that way specifically for any Maneki Neko- or any other beings or spirits- who wanted to get inside. A faint scent of mingled and faded Maneki Neko presences suggested it was the most likely cause.
Before joining Zenko near the fire, Kallo wandered the room. It was spacious, and minimally furnished; not in a way that made it feel bare, but rather in a way that felt respectfully minimal. He liked it. There was a few benches- which he peered underneath- all facing an alter, behind which there was a bookcase with scrolls, books, and piles of paper. A couple of doors led off and a flight of stairs led to an overlooking balcony and a third door. None of them seemed to be open; the flow of air on Kallo's sensitive damp nose suggested that it was coming in from a high, ajar window on the same wall as the fire; and out through the front door. He hoped it didn't slam shut and trap them in.
Satisfied that whoever had been tending to the fire wouldn't take them by surprise, he walked over to the fire and sat next to it, starting to vigorously groom his shoulder and back. He paused to peer out the door at Zenko's words and frowned slightly, his eyes narrowing. "I hope that doesn't happen. I wouldn't want to spend the night trapped in a strange place." He looked up at one of the windows; then back to the door. "I should have stayed where I was. Why did I think I could make my journey before the weather got bad..." He sighed in irritation and resumed his grooming, pausing only to speak again. "Why were you caught out in the weather, Zenko?"

Zenko was curled up contently, he was enjoying the warmth of the fire. Closing his eyes he listened to the steady stream of cracking and hissing noises it let off. Bring his tails closer to his body he started to fix the fur on them as he warmed up. His golden eyes watched Kallo as the neko wandered around the temple checking it out.
"Yes it would be bad if we ended up traped here. Hopefully that doesn't happen." He watched the rainfall harder though the crack in the door. "Hmm? Oh I was just wandering really, It was clear when I started but it was starring to show signs of storming when i got close to this town." Most likely he would stay in the temple tonight even if the storm passed.

Kallo finished grooming the first area of fur and stood; stretching his body and letting out a little purr at the stretch in his muscles. He sat back down and started cleaning himself again, this time his other shoulder. He spoke as he did so.
"You're not from this town?" He briefly paused his grooming to turn his head and look over at Zenko; before resuming attempting to rearrange his fur. "You must have travelled a long way then." He sighed, shaking his head before tackling a knot in his fur, "I just wanted to get to the house I'll be staying in for a week or so before the weather got bad... I suppose I should have expected it to turn just as I was out in it." He cast a dark glowering look out the door before twisting and starting to groom his lower back and tail.

"Yes, it was a rather long journey. I'm lucky the weather only turned sour after i had made it into town. It would have been bad if I ended up traped outside in this storm." Zenko continued grooming his tails, he had just finished one and was starting on the other one was Kallo started to clean his own tail, sadly having tails as long as you are means you spend a lot of time making sure they are free of knots and tangles.
He was quite thankfully to Inari that the weather had been good during his trip and he quickly sent this thanks to her. "Are you visiting some one then?" He asked at the other's mention of staying at a house for a week.

"Oh..." Kallo realised what he had said after a moment's thought. "No. Well, yes, sort of."
He blinked, sitting up and trying to put his thoughts into order so he could make sense to his younger companion. "What I mean is... there are a few humans who will let me take shelter with them, and give me some food. I don't have a permanent home, but there are a few houses that I visit regularly. I was going to one of those." He stared at the doorway without seeing it; frowning slightly in thought, creating a small wrinkle in the sleek, slightly damp fur on his forehead. "I know it's fairly unusual. You probably come from a nice home." He managed to keep the hint of bitterness out of his voice; but he kept staring blankly towards the door for a moment, before snapping himself out of it and returning to his grooming, now focusing on his chest. It wouldn't help to dwell on things; and it definitely wouldn't do to take it out on his companion.
