Benjil had always been alone. Even before he Fell, even before he'd accreted, or whatever the proper term was for a star being "born." That is, a literal star, a big ball of gas. Well, whatever. He'd always been alone, even then, and alone was just the way Benjil liked it. No siblings, no family, just the one person he could trust: himself. And even before that, in his past life, even then he'd been a loner. He liked being solitary. It was what he liked to do. It was how he liked to function. And he wouldn't have it any other way: the wind in his mane, the ground eaten up beneath his hooves, and no annoying outside voices nagging him to do this or that. Yep. The life independent for this bachelor!
At least, that was the way it used to be. Ever since getting out of that forest, a strange feeling had overcome the newly-infected werewolf: loneliness. As if he should be a part of a bigger thing, but wasn't. Sure, that was natural for a social animal like a horse, but with the social instincts of a wolf now weighing him down, it was getting increasingly difficult for Benjil to bite back the instinct to slink into some group and huddle up with someone for the night. Frustrating. That was the proper term.

Aquila strode gracefully down the road singing as she went her clear voice ringing through the forest. She sang of the great creatures that protected the night guardians of those who protected them during the day. She loved the road, she loved hearing new stories and bringing them back to the herd to sing them for the others there too, it made her feel full. She was never lonely when she sang because she knew someone would always listen be it the birds or a star she passed.
Her coat decorated like the fading night sky, her mane silvery white like the moon beams the very picture of the night was awake during the day. Not as many traveled during the night she'd sadly found and those with the best stories were always awake during the day. She found she never really fit in anywhere when it was day time, and she was safer during the night hours because of her dark coat.
The mare fluttered her midnight black wings as her song finished and she looked around to where her feet had carried her, a small meadow with very pretty flowers, Aquila smiled gently.

After stomping through the woods all day in that never-ending sense of frustration, Benjil had finally just thrown himself down onto the ground in a meadow full of brightly colored-flowers. The sun was shining, and it was warm. The warmth was...well, it was nice. He had to give it that. He'd always liked warmth. He should--he was a cat at heart, even under this itchy wolf pelt. He liked being in sunlight. Now if only he could remove this wretched pelt. It felt like it wouldn't ever come off, as if it was glued onto his skin or something! But it wasn't, because it was itchy, and it was hot, and he could feel his hair underneath it. He definitely wasn't glued to it, but it was, was enchanted or something like that! Why couldn't it ever go away?!
As caught up in his own thoughts as he was, though, Benjil still heard the sound of singing approaching in the forest. Still grumbling and annoyed at the world, he shifted in position until he was facing the direction of the unnatural sound. It turned out to be coming from a lyra mare with a coat like a winter's night wandering through the forest like she had not a care in the world, wings fluttering. She was, well, she was pretty. But he didn't trust other stars based on their looks--okay, that was a lie. If he saw a star covered in blood wearing bones and fangs, he'd definitely make a quick judgement decision on whether to trust them or not based purely on that. But he certainly didn't trust pretty people just because they were pretty. That was a naive, foolish thing to do, and he wouldn't be caught dead doing that. Mostly because that was a definite way to be caught dead.
As such, he made no response to the stranger. She seemed distracted by the flowers anyway. Let her move on or notice him in her own fashion, it made no difference to him.

Aquila continued to be distracted by the flowers as she knelt down beside them sniffing them gently, taking in the scent of each one. they were beautiful and full of life, but in time they would wither and die, only to be replaced by another flower just as beautiful if not more so.
Aquila had taken notice of the other laying in the flowers some ways away, "Good day," she called over to he kitty dog. He gaze shifted form the flowers to the other, there seemed to be something on his back but she couldn't quite tell from the distance between them, had he killed an animal? did that make him dangerous? one could never truly tell until they'd gotten to know the other.
She folded her black lyra wings against her back. would he like to hear a story, he seemed so comfortable in the flowers, maybe it was best no to disturb him she thought only after she had called out a greeting, "I am sorry to have disturbed you, if I have."

Damn. She'd noticed him. Oh well. Now that she'd noticed him, there was very little Benjil could do but respond. He didn't want to, but he knew he had to. He was...damnit, he was two-thirds social animal now. His newly-found social demands were starting to kick in. "No, no, you haven't disturbed me," he growled. He knew he shouldn't've growled, and indeed he had tried to modulate the growl, but his words still came out with a bit of gruffness. He didn't think it was a threatening gruffness, though.
He flicked his tail and drew his legs in closer. "The meadow doesn't belong to me," he added. "Any star who wants to can, well, you know." She seemed enchanted by the flowers, taking the time to sniff each one and savor the scent. In a manner he hoped was surreptitious (probably wasn't, now that he'd drawn attention to himself), he leaned over and sniffed one. It smelled...funny. He couldn't really describe it. But it almost smelled...well, now he didn't want to say it. Or think it. But it made him think of things he didn't normally think of (there, that's a way to imply it without outright stating).

Aquila was taken back by his growl for a moment. Aquila picking one of the flowers laid it before Beniji. "My Name is Aquila a bard of Llyn Dinas." Perhaps he was shy despite his gruffness, recoiling into himself perhaps was a hint. She watched him again for a moment, or maybe, he just wasn't good dealing with other starborn? Maybe she was making him uncomfortable? He seemed to like the flowers but when sniffing did they smell strange?
"Don't they smell lovely?" she spoke kindly to him maybe he'd run away if she was too bold? wolf pelt she had noticed earlier seemed to match the stallion exactly. Perhaps then he was one of these alcor she'd heard about in the stories. She had never seen one before, what a treat she'd been given.
She wondered how he'd come to be this way, his stripes were that of the great cat a tiger if she recalled the story. This stallion seemed nice enough he didn't out right attack her after all.

The mare then laid the flower in front of him as if it were some sort of piece offering. The reason behind that confused the reluctant alcor. Why the offering? Was it to placate him? Respect? Or was it a sign of friendliness? or an idle action without meaning? See, this was why he hated social interactions! He never knew what to do! "I'm Benjil. I belong to no herd, and I do as I see fit." A bard? That would explain the singing he'd heard earlier, on the edge of hearing. It might also explain the slight dippiness of her. Weren't bards supposed to be ever so slightly dippy? It was an old stereotype he'd heard somewhere, although come to think of it, he couldn't remember where precisely. "What's Llyn Dinas?" he said instead. He braced himself for a probable dump of information that he didn't actually need.
"They...do," Benjil said. The flowers, yeah, okay, fine, they smelled good. Very good. He liked that smell. He tried to resist the urge to roll over in them to get their juices and oils soaked into his shaggy pelt. "Dunno what types of flowers they are. I'm surprised I haven't been stung by a bee yet."

Aquila gave the stallion a smile "It's nice to meet you benjil," She fluttered her wings to stretch them get the blood flowing. Wing cramp was a terrible ailment. The mare glanced at the sky watching some birds fly bye. She should She did watch him he seemed awkward to a point. Perhaps he wasn't versed in socialization.
"Flowers are plentiful and you lay still, I see no reason they would bother you." Aquila chuckled a bit.. Oh right he'd asked about Llyn Dinas. "the herd in which I belong is.." She paused and raised her brow watching his body language as she spoke "A herd of knights, and a family." She smiled "Well not biologically of course but though bonds we created a family." she explained "We help those who need help, no matter how small the task."
Aquila was quite proud to be apart of such a herd. There weren't many that happily branched out to others. There were many herds that just prefered to be left along and not interact in any way. But the stallion didn't seem all that interested in what she was saying. She was amused almost, but the mare simply smiled hoping it would brighten his mood.

Nice to meet him, his fluffy tail. No one was ever happy to meet him. Why should they be? He was never happy to meet them. Or maybe happy and nice weren't the same things. Or maybe this was another social thing. Or maybe he was the reason no one liked him. Humph. He hadn't known the mare for more than a minute and a half, and already she was putting all sorts of worries into his head. Never, ever, ever a good sign in a meeting with another star. Always a sign that something had to give, and he'd be damned if it would be his own values.
"Yeah, but what if I'm sitting on a bee right now? I could be. I wasn't really careful when lying down. Could be some fat, stupid insect is fixing to jam its buttocks into my flesh at this very moment." Now he was just being ornery for the sake of being ornery. It wasn't all that unusual for him. As for the herd? "Huh. I've heard about a lot of herds trying to help other stars. Any relation to Sunflare?" It wasn't a herd he knew all that much about, just the usual gossip and rumors you heard from travelers. He didn't socialize much, but he'd met a star or two who had chatted far too long on the subject.
As for families? "Aren't most herds tightly-knit enough to be families? I thought that's kinda what a herd was. A non-biological family coming together for the sake of coming together or something like that."

"Well insects are another matter entirely and if you were sitting on a bumble bee I doubt you'd be as still as you are right now." she laughed lightly.
Aquila gave him a nod she'd heard of the sunflare they were further from them than the moonlight herd but. "Allies I think or soon to be our kind was planning on sending an envoy."Aquila herself didn't know much about it but the king knew a bit only because of his family's Connection to the older herds. "Do you know much about them?" Aquila asked curiously she fluttered her wings again. "I've herd songs composed by their bard but that's about all."
"In a sense and in a sense not, The herd in which the king had come from was comprised of many different family units were all friends." Aquila explained. "And this one is a bit different, at least I feel that way, you could always go meet them yourself Kitty dog." she gave him a smile.

Huh, well, she had a point about the bumblebee. To be fair to Benjil, though, he'd never thought it was a serious possibility. Just a bit of...oh, damnit, it had been idle chitchat, hadn't it? Not just being ornery for the sake of ornery. He was slipping, and he hated that fact. He was becoming some kind of detestable social...person...thing. He wasn't sure if he'd be able to live with himself for that. Best to ignore it, then--just concede the point, let the warm glow of winning a whatever-the-hell-that-was go to her and continue the part of the conversation that didn't involve sitting on a bug. "I suppose so," he said, then dropped the subject like it was an angry hornet.
"Nah, I don't--not really, anyway. I'm not a particularly social person," he added. "Most of what I hear is hearsay, not so much actual information as such. All I know about them is that they were founded by a dun stallion with good intentions and one of his neighbors took offence to his being a goody-four-hooves and declared war on him for absolutely no reason. They're more or less the oldest herd I know of, but that's probably more to do with my own ignorance than anything else."
As to her other proposal? He shrugged. He had to admit, he was a little curious--that was his cat nature poking through--but he knew it would be a bad idea. "I'm not much for socialization," he said. "I'm very bad at it. Don't think any herd would want me around, anyway," he added. "It's not like I've got any special skills or whatever." Except for turning into an animal I don't want to turn into. He didn't like being referred to as a "dog," but neither did he mention it. He didn't want to encourage her to use it.

Aquila blinked for a moment taken back by his sudden drop of the subject. He was definitely an interesting starborn. She'd met a lot of stars but none quite like this guy. He definitely acted like a cat, it was fun. though to be fair she was a much more social girl herself. Social intricacies often came with being a bard though she did like the quiet evenings as well. She was definitely going to be friends with him.
So he only knew of the two oldest herds. To be fair they are the only herds making a lot of noise around this part of the continent. "Ah yes the sunflare and Shadow herds" Aquila nodded in agreement. Arch had sent Gawain there. she'd heard about the old herd war too. The rivalry or who knows what between the sunflare and shadow had been going on since she'd fallen. It was quite something, the reason for the war starting was something she didn't know either.
He didn't give any outward interest to her proposal it was a shame, but it wasn't like everyone was just going to join. "Not the social sort, that's alright." she chuckled a bit, he was interesting to talk to. "You'd be surprised, it takes all sorts to make a herd; our king even has feline features from his father." Aquila paused and gave him a smile and sat quietly down beside him careful of the flowers though she couldn't avoid hurting a few but she did try.

Benjil watched her sit down among the flowers carefully, as though she didn't want to crush the flowers. Yeah, that tracked with everything else he knew (or thought he knew) about the mare. She did seem like the sort to care about crushing the flowers for the flower's sake, not just for the sake of any hypothetical bees that might be lurking in the foliage.
Gah, he hated conversations. He was pretty sure this was the longest conversation he'd ever had with another star. This was torture, absolutely, one-hundred-percent torture. What did one even talk about?! He wasn't a talkative person! He didn't have a million topics at hand to talk about! This wasn't fair, she was a bard, she had an unfair advantage in this contest!
He didn't let any of this show on his face, just twitched his tail to swat an insect (bee?) away from his flank. He was going to say something else, but then she mentioned her leader (king, huh, how many kings were there these days anyhow) and the fact that he was a cat intrigued him... "Feline features, eh?" he said. If he was honest with himself (stupid honesty), he would say that he was...ugh...jealous of such stars. He was a cat, too, and yet he didn't look anything like one! "Is he a Cheshire, then?" Benjil didn't notice himself sitting up straighter, more alert, more engaged, than he had been before.

Aquila shook her head "He's not, but his father is a.." she paused uncertainly for a moment. "Kalibyn.. I think that's what it was" she ended up nodding to herself before finally realizing Beniji was more interested in her words than he was before. he was giving her a bit more to work with. she smiled happily "that kind of alcor has feline features similar to the wildkin but no pelt, the young King inherited the features but not the power." She finished explaining as best as she understood. There were so many different things in the world.
Oh she just remembered "The young king however, has come to gain one of the sign's power, the Lady Libra! She saw fit to bestow her mark upon him." Perhaps that might interest him too "the signs are powerful beings that can gift part of their power to some!"
