Nothing official has been said regarding the circumstances surrounding this clutch being laid at Fort instead of Igen, but if you were to ask someone from Igen, this clutch shouldn't even be here. This clutch should be at Igen. Even if it is fairly small and doesn't seem to have a queen egg. That's really not the point.

Actually, if you were to mention this clutch to anyone at Igen, they would probably express confusion before moving on to outrage and indignation, since they, er, haven't been told about it yet. They'll find out soon. Many things regarding Serith's clutch have been conducted in a very unobtrusive way, and this Touching is no exception. Candidates were instructed to report to the hatching sands an hour before the lunch bell and not to make a fuss. It's kind of like this clutch is Lin's dirty little secret.

On the sands, even the eggs seem to be aware that they are not supposed to attract notice and are clustered very near to one another while Serith is curled up as far from them as she can be while remaining in the cavern. It is as if she is physically distancing herself from the clutch already. Lin is nowhere to be seen, and instead Senior Weyrwoman Alaia presides over the proceedings.

Upon entering the cavern candidates have been instructed to bow to Serith before approaching the eggs and not to linger too long so that everyone can touch every egg if they so choose. They've also been instructed to keep pet firelizards away and not to be rowdy.

OOC Notes:
+ Your characters may theorize and speculate as much as they want about what's going on and what's going to happen because Lin's gold had a clutch away from the Weyr, but no one in the candidates knows for certain. This should be made clear in any narrative where the character is discussing the affair, no matter how confident the character sounds or how certain they feel about their version of things.

+ You may RP candidate interaction on the sands, but know that it will be frowned upon and probably annoy Serith. She may be easy to get along with most of the time, but these are her eggs and she doesn't want a bunch of stupid candidates roughhousing around them. Talking is fine, but shouting, shoving, running, or anything like that will end the Touching early.

+ Participation in this event (five hundred words or more) will earn you one bonus point per character. Each character must have five hundred words though. It cannot be five hundred words combined.

+ All Fort Weyr candidates can be expected to be here IC, even if you don't have time to post OOC.

Quote:
Tropical Egg - Brilliantly colored, this is visually the most striking egg in the clutch, although its positioning makes it a bit less obvious than the Effervescent Egg. It is also very different from the other vibrant egg in the feeling one gets touching it. This egg almost gives the impression that it hopes you have something in your hand other than your hand, and the fact that you don't is a little disappointing. It doesn't seem to mind being used as a prop for the Ovate Egg as long as the latter doesn't make a nuisance of itself.
Ovate Egg - Certainly this egg is unremarkable in terms of size, coloration, and everything else that could make it stand out from the other six. You can think that if you want. This egg doesn't care. Being upright is just so much effort for this egg. It is much easier just to lean on the Tropical Egg and let it support both of them. Most people who touch this egg will sense nothing from it, not even polite, pretended passing interest. It really just can't be bothered. It's possible this egg's a dud.
Glowering Egg - At first glance this is just another unremarkable egg on the sands, but it doesn't take too long to notice the malevolent red glaring dully at you from beneath the shadow of its curved sides. This egg is furious and if it had claws or teeth it is a certainty that touching it would mean losing your hand and possibly the torso attached to it. The only exception to this apparently universal hostility is for harpers and those who are harper-trained. At their touch the hatred subsides. This egg may be distancing itself from the rest of its clutch, or the rest of its clutch is avoiding it.
Regal Egg - This is not a small egg, nor is it an easy egg to overlook with its impressive coloration and somewhat central location with in the cluster of the clutch, although it seems pretty content to be so close to the Murky and Shiny Eggs in particular. Touching it produces a sensation that is, quite frankly, unusual to experience when touching an egg unless you have some kind of very strange fetish. Like, no kinkery or anything, but touching this egg will make you feel good. And perhaps a little horny. Don't worry about it, just go with it. Ladies may be a little more strongly affected than men.
Murky Egg - Close to the Shiny Egg, and yet so very far at the same time, the Murky Egg is small and dark and resentful, particularly of the Shiny Egg's, well, shininess. Nevertheless, the two do seem to be nestled closely without any obvious problems. Those candidates who touch this egg first will feel only a sense of reserve from it, as if it is withholding judgment. Those who go first to the Shiny Egg will feel something else, something that sort of resembles indignation and sort of resembles inquisitiveness. It wants to know what the Shiny Egg thought of you. Not the other way around.
Shiny Egg - Nestled a little anxiously with the Murky Egg and the Regal Egg, this smallish egg is still eye-catching when the light from the glows strikes it a certain way since the shell seems to be extra-reflective. Those who touch this egg, perhaps drawn by its shininess, will come away with the feeling that they have been measured, but what the final score is will not become apparent until the day the Shiny Egg's occupant emerges. It is worth mentioning that the Shiny Egg seems a little concerned by the distance between it and the Effervescent Egg, as if it would like to be closer.
Effervescent Egg - At the forefront of the clutch, the largest egg has a sort of coloration that would make most people think girly things. The egg's feminine appearance is pretty much the only feminine thing about it. Touching the egg, you get the idea that something fun and exciting and awesome is about to happen, at least as long as you stick with the Effervescent Egg. There is no way anything can go wrong. You are touching the very best egg, and that means you're no dummy, so you could maybe hang around and watch this really neat trick. Yes. This egg thinks it can do tricks.

Well this was. . .interesting to say the least. Personally Emora didn't know much about Igen or their wayward Queen and Junior Weyrwoman however she had a decent nose for trouble and this entire clutch stank to high heavens of it. However one never looked a gift runner in the mouth err gift egg? Dragon? Ah shard it all she was a candidate what the hell did it matter where the eggs came from as long as they were there. Listening quietly to the candidate master the young woman kept glancing to the side over at the sands and the hulking gold figure that oversaw them. Queen's certainly were a good deal more impressive up close or as up close as she could get without getting herself kicked off the sands. She may have been a bit of a daredevil, but she still had the sharding good sense not to get herself torn to pieces.

Stepping onto the hot sands she felt the grains crunch under her boots the little granuals shifting with each step she took forward as Emora paused and bowed low to the overseeing golden mother. Holding the position for a moment she then slowly rose glancing around her for any candidates she recognized before approaching her first egg The Effervescent egg.

Surprise rippled through Emora's mind as she felt the hatchling within. HA! another trick rider like herself would be coming out of this egg! She'd bet her best saddle on that as a grin spread across Emora's face. Stick around? Trick huh? Well she certainly didn't mind learning a few new moves. Maybe she could even show the egg some in return when it hatched. However did it really think it could get the trick done perfect the first time? Well she certainly gave it props for confidence. Maybe it really could do it perfect. Perfection was something she happened to crave and if you did it perfect the first time there was no need to go back and fix it. Better to do a good job once then a poor one twice.

Zofer listened with half an ear. He still wasn't much accustomed to taking orders again. He scanned the group of candidates, pin-pointing some of his new acquaintances among their number, drinking buddies, possibly friends, potential enemies. Who knew. The moment they were released to enter the Sands he didn't worry about it.

Zofer swept a low and graceful bow to the gold dragon where she lay far from her clutch. Duty discharged, he followed a familiar blond head to the first and largest egg from the clutch. Zofer even before touching it felt confidant that it, of course, held a bronze, and he, of course, would Impress it. It was fate after all. He had been Searched from his own ship, the pride of Southern Boll, to become a dragonrider, one of the highest ranked people on Pern.

Why wouldn't he be a bronzerider? Zofer could see no other option for himself other than go back to his beloved ship The Flying Harlot. He placed his hand upon the bright shell of the Effervescent Egg before him. Being able to tell the guys back at home that he'd touched a dragons egg would be brilliant as well. He had what it takes.

"Hah!" Zofer let out a bark of laughter as he got sudden 'feelings' from the creature within. Well that was more than he'd expected! "This is great!" He exclaimed, broad grin on his face. Of course something amazing was about to happen! Life was never dull around Zofer! He didn't know what sort of trick that the egg had in mind but after a few moments he gave the egg a proper pat and moved on. The trick could wait till after he could actually see the dragonet.

Emora arched a brow at Zofer and shook her head letting out a snort of disgust. Air headed two bit sharding wherry that man was for sure. Probably only touched the egg cause he thought it held a bronze before he'd rushed off to some other gleaming shell. Giving the Effervescent egg a gentle pat she smile. "I don't care what color you are. You're perfect." She assured it though Emora couldn't be certain the egg heard her. However the feeling of confidence it portrayed was enough and with one last loving caress she moved on.

The Tropical Egg was next to be greeted and it's expectation of some sort of offering left Emora blinking and frowning. Well if she had been supposed to bring something she would have however for now she'd just have to do now wouldn't she? Feeling the eggs disappointment she sighed. Oh there was no need for it to be like that. Maybe she'd give it something after the hatching if it was so upset about the whole thing. Gently stroking the brightly colored shell she shook her head before lifting her eyes up to glance at it's companion and moved to greet it in turn.

Hanratty had been to Touchings before, but as always, he wasn't really sure where to start. That bossy-seeming girl was already well on her way to patting and cooing at every egg in the clutch, but he felt a bit lost.

He considered the Tropical Egg and Effervescent Egg briefly and decided to move on to the Ovate Egg instead. The first two looked kind of girly, especially the one with the glittery shell. Hanratty wasn't about to impress no green, no thank you. Hanratty was a manly man.

Although Hanratty had never really felt a strong connection with any egg at any Touching, the Ovate Egg had to be the dullest of the bunch. He gave it a vague pat and moved on, wondering if it even had a live dragon inside.

Zofer caught Emora's words and winked back at her. "Of course he is!" Zofer chirped, perfectly confident in his idea of the eggs occupant. While Emora had attended to the Tropical Egg, Zofer instead approached the Shiny egg, proving Emora's internal thoughts correct as he touched it's reflective shell.

Once again he was delighted by the strength and clarity of emotions that come from the eggs. Bosun's egg had been nothing like this. Though the intensity did dull his confidence that he'd Impress that first one. He'd had thought that the strong connection meant it was for him, but if all the eggs felt like that then he couldn't be so sure.

Still, he gave the Shiny Egg a bit of attention, exploring the differences in it's emotions. He surprisingly felt like he was standing before his father again, being judged worthy of his Journeyman Knots. He felt his attention almost directed back at the Effervescent Egg but shook free of it. "Apparently this guy thinks He's pretty cool as well." Zofer glanced back towards where Emora was, pointing at the shiny yellow shell.

His next target would be the Murky Egg. Work his way around the outside before he stepped within the middle of the clutch.

Skelly didn't want to go to Igen. He might have to, since Lin had her clutch here and not in Igen like she was suppose to. It was hot there and full of itchy sand and general nasty things. The eggs... the eggs were rather pretty. The clutch was small, a total of seven eggs and no queen egg. He wasn't sure that was a good thing or a bad thing. Maybe a good thing because, perhaps, that Igen won't been so angry about the clutch not being on their sand. More bad thing because thread and queens laid eggs and eggs meant dragons.

Caelan looked like he was going to slap him. Skelly shifted slightly away from his elder brother, listening to the instructions and slowly moved off towards the eggs. He bowed to the gold, slightly scared that she would find some fault in him. He breath slowly, nothing happening and approached the royal blue purple egg. It was large and elegant and he liked the color.

The Regal egg
might have been the best choice, it felt invasive, warm, like sipping a hot cup of spiced wine or being pulled into a very intimate hug. Skelly stepped back, checks flushed and stared at the egg. Okay, eggs or the dragon inside the egg wasn't really dangerous.

"Pshh Color Horder." Emora teased sticking her tongue out at Zofer as he bee-lined for the next egg proving her guess correct. Really what was with everyone always going for the largest? Were gold clutches this bad except with the girls trying to hog the golden egg? Emora certainly hoped not and made a little face just at the idea. These were dragons after all. What the shards would they care what color came out of the shell so long as they impressed? Shaking her head in amusement Emora spied Hanratty as he touched the egg she was stepping up to then left with a less the interested look having skipped over the other two. Well at least he wasn't going directly for the biggest egg he could find.

Tossing Zofer a playful glance she nodded to Hanratty. "You should take a lesson." She added before placing her own hand on the Ovate egg and. . .nothing. Was it asleep? Or was there no dragon lurking within the shell at all? Hopefully it was just asleep or being lazy. Either way she certainly wouldn't be giving it a second touch as she moved on.

Mari could care less about the official mumble jumble concerning the clutch. There was eggs, they were on Fort's sand and she was going to touch them. Perhaps she could find a dragon out there to match her stunning personality. She smoothed her skirt, a heavy more modest linen of warm blue, and moved towards the most colorful egg.

It was large and pink, blue, and had lovely green arrows around the top and surely this would be her egg. It certainly was colorful enough to match her. They would be a brilliant pair! She shifted and ran her hand over the hard shell. Ooh, yes. Mari grinned broadly feeling reaching her and sent it straight back. They could be confident and fabulous together! Of course the dragon was perfect, she was to... but she did have to go now.

It was nothing the Effervescent egg did, rules, that was all.

This was so exciting - her first touching! Iliyana wasn't sure where to go first after bowing to the queen. After all, all of the eggs appeared to be quite lovely (or at least intriguing) in their own separate ways. The blonde hesitated for a moment, trying to decide where she was going to go first. Most of the other candidates appeared to be investigating the larger or brighter eggs as their first choices, but Iliyana didn't want to be just like the others.

Instead, the girl found her gaze drawn to the Murky Egg who appeared to be more or less overlooked, at least as a first choice. Iliyana didn't think that was quite fair to it, so that was where she went first, reaching out to the mossy-green shell with a gentle hand. The reservation coming from the egg surprised her, but in a pleasant sort of way. After all, it had plenty of time to come to a decision, and she had to admire its ability to hold back like it was doing. Patting it in farewell, Iliyana stepped away from the Murky Egg and turned to look at what she might be going to next.

"What? Barely touch it and move on? Shells no!" Zofer laughed again. "Can't you feel it? It's almost like there's people inside there!" The young man was certainly showing his ignorance and naivety when it came to dragons. He was a ship born lad though! Creatures of the sky were as foreign as Thread to his mind.

He touched the dark shell of the Murky Egg with enthusiasm. What did the Shiny Egg think of him? Huh, they seemed to be rather interested and aware of one another. He hadn't really thought about that, positive? He wasn't sure what Shiny thought of him. "Like this one! It's like it knows I touched the other eggs first! I don't know how. They can't see us." He waved her over, trying to prove his point.

Coming to the Weyr had been an excellent idea. His parents would be getting a long letter once he was done here.

"Still dense as ever I see. I meant you shouldn't judge the eggs on looks alone. Shards you're like a five turn old." She joked, but did step over towards him making her way around the circle of eggs to run her hand over the shell of the Shiny Egg. It was such a brilliant metallic color that for just a second she wondered if it could possibly be a tiny gold, but no. . .that was silly. They had said there would not no gold in this clutch and probably all for the better. No one wanted to draw too much attention to the darlings.

Stroking her hand over the Shiny egg's shell she felt as if she was being examined. Like every bit of her was being picked apart and looked at for something. Something the dragon wanted. Something it needed~ It was a strange feeling to say the least, but not wholly unpleasant and actually left Emora smiling. At least one of the dragons showed the initiate to be choosey. It clearly wanted the best and wasn't about to be deceived by appearances. Silently Emora hoped she had made the cut before she pulled her hand back giving the egg one last stroke before stepping up beside Zofer and the Murkey egg.

"You're just going to keep blabbing until I come look aren't you?" She questioned teasingly and giving his shoulder a gentle poke.

"Babble? I don't Babble. I offer intelligent and insightful commentary!" Ok, he was babbling, and his best mates would mock him between and back if they heard this. He was currently having his mind blown though! He could babble if he sharding well wanted to! His lip curled into a half grin. "Just touch it." With a little eyebrow waggle he moved to the one next to it, ignoring his initial plan of ringing the outside.

Regal Egg was... well... "Wow!" Zofer blinked down at the vivid purple shell, leaving his hands firmly upon it's warmth. "Oh I like you. i like you a lot." Currently, the Regal Egg was giving Effervescent a run for it's money when it comes to Zofer's 'favorite' egg. Imagine the ladies he'd get with a personality like that! He gave a throaty and appreciative laugh, feeling his eyes drawn towards a couple of the female candidates before he glanced back to Emora. "You've got to try this one." He took a deep breath, loath to remove his hands. "Shells and Shards..." It would be hard to focus on the next egg he felt.

Caelan was not sure why he bothered with his family sometimes. Mari was treating the touching as if it was a lark, something momentary fun instead of the life changing moment it should be. Skelly might be afraid of the eggs. His little brother was over thinking it at the very least.

He was pleasantly surprised when his little half brother at least touched one of the larger eggs. Mari went for the most colorful one of all. He ignored most of his fellow candidates and headed to one of the separated eggs. It was not a gaudy looking one, pale cream white with red and it suit his tastes. He had not been prepared to meet such a vicious mind. Angry, angry little thing.

Caelan left the Glowering egg behind. Skelly really shouldn't be touching that egg. Mari would meet that egg head on and likely inform it, that is could be hissy elsewhere.

Her first touching was big news...Her first Touching, and Seikih could feel hope surging through her chest. Her heart was pounding, and her eyes studied all the eggs, watching them with a measured calculation. Those soft silver eyes were unimpressed, very little drawing her gaze, and even less causing a stir beyond mild intrigue. Her head bowed to the Gold who watched the clutch, though she wouldn't give more than that. Her dark hair was tied back in a braid today, hanging over her shoulder, and bouncing slightly over her shoulder. Moving towards the eggs finally, her heart skipped in her chest as she noticed the Glowering egg. This was the one that drew her the most. Something about the coloring drew her personality. The searing red that furiously glowed beneath the sands, and the curve of the shell...the slight twinge of nerves that seemed to cause her to hesitate....yes. She'd touch this one first. Slowly, her hand reached out, carefully brushing the shell that lay there, taking in the feelings of the Egg that she'd chosen to touch first.

The hatred that immediately spiked from it, and through her caused the once-apprentice of Starcrafthall to jump. Oh shards...that was an emotion that terrified her. Nothing....she'd never felt anything so strong before. The anger behind this little one was...fascinating, and even though it pushed at her, she still let her fingertips linger. Though she wouldn't challenge it, she chose to remain to feel the emotion that surged. Even if it was so....angry, something about that egg held her. However, after a few moments, she pulled away from the egg, taking a breath in and out, pointedly ignoring the other candidates who were walking around, and touching the other eggs. Tch...Pointless. Completely pointless.
