The workshop was in full blown work today, different from other days. All the doors and windows were open, and the smith was hard at work. Sweat dripped from her brow, hitting the glowing metal with a puff of steam. Orders for swords and various other weapons had been in high demand since the news from outside Palisade. Protection was important, especially with the rumors about of the return of the wolves from the North. Nails were also in high demand, though those were easy enough to make. Rosalie in particular could not bear to sell a sword that wasn't perfect, and she had at least 10 to make in the next few weeks, plus some for stock. Aelius himself had felt locked up in the building. Reading times had become sparse since the news of wolves had reached them, and the endless flow of customers seemed to be dull and boring. No longer, for the moment, was there time to chat, time for tea. He had been allowed out to frolic and stretch his limbs, though he didn't stray far from the front of the store. He had yet to run into another of his kind for quite a while now, and was growing lonely from lack of comfort from his own chosen, and was desperate for a new friend. However, it seemed today wouldn't bring him that either... Finishing the 6th sword of the batch, Rosalie set it into the water to cool. Soon she'd start the detail work, as this was requested from a noble. She sat down in one of the few chairs scattered around the shop, leaning back with a heavy sigh. The woman didn't bother to wipe her face free of soot and sweat, knowing she'd have to start up again in a while, after getting some cool water to drink and resurge her hydration.

Colette wandered through the streets, bumping into a few passerbys that didn't notice the blind girl in their way. Each time she stuttered an apology, but continued on her way, clutching a small saw that was heavily worn down. The teeth on it were practically nubs. She had found it in the cottage when she first moved in years ago, and clearly it had seen even more years than that. But the saw could cut no more and Colette desperately needed to get more firewood from the younger trees in Wardwood before the next snowstorm.
The petite girl knew she was in the right place when she felt heat radiating out of a building, and heard fires roaring from inside. She wandered closer but was stopped when she collided with something with fur. Was that a horse? Or someone's coat?
"M-my apologies" she muttered, making a quick curtsy.

Aelius wasn't really sure what to do with this girl that had just bumped into him. He really did look like a deer shocked by a sudden appearance of light. He awkwardly stood there for the moment, then, took a moment to look the girl over. Aaah, pretty lass, this one. But what was with her eyes? Rosalie happened to glance outside, feeling the desperate calls in her mind from the buck. What in the world had him all riled up? She grunted, getting to her feet, and swayed for the first few steps, making her way outside. "Aelius, what in the world...?" She stopped, seeing the young woman by Aelius, who would have been gesturing her over if he had been human. The woman walked up, feeling slightly chilled from the winter's grasp. "Excuse me miss, are you alright?" She asked, giving Aelius a pat on the back. "I hope my...companion didn't cause you much trouble." There was a slight pause. It wasn't exactly the time to call him a deer, especially if the girl wasn't used to it. She did, however, take notice of the saw, and gave a slight smile. "Would you happen to be looking for somewhere to get that fixed, miss?"

Colette turned to look in the general direction of the voice that suddenly called out. She chuckled nervously, "N-no, no, I'm okay, your horse just surprised me is all." The blind girl patted the air a few times before finding Aelius' snout and petted it gently. It felt peculiar for a horse but then again perhaps it was a breed she wasn't used to.
"Get what fixed?" she asked innocently, eyes wide and even wider when she realized what the woman was referring to. "O-oh yes! Please, ma'am, do you know if I'm at the right place? This poor old saw will never cut a sapling down true." she replied timidly, gazing just over the woman's shoulder. Her arm tightened around the saw, almost reluctant to even hand it over to someone at all. Colette's tools were very precious to her, such is why she'd rather repair old tools over and over instead of buying a new one unless absolutely necessary. She loosened her hold slightly while still having one hand on the buck's snout, as if she'd become lost if she were to lose touch of him.

Horse.....Rosalie thought it over for a moment, before giving in. Fine, people were getting used to guardians... "Oh he's not exactly a horse..." She replied, laughing slightly, "He's actually closer to a deer. A guardian of mine." She was unsure if the woman knew of the guardians, she didn't seem to be from Palisade if she talked of saplings....Nonetheless, Aelius didn't mind the patting. He rather tended to enjoy it. "You are, miss. I happen to run this smithy. Would you care to come in? It's awful cold these days. I could probably fix that saw up in an hour or so, no problem." She offered. Aelius met eyes with Rosalie again, knowing to be careful with this young girl. "Here...I'll take the saw now..." She reached out, carefully taking it as to not surprise her. While she wasn't used to those without sight coming to her shop, she was never one to not consider being polite to them. "Aelius, help her in, won't you dear?" She gave another pat to the buck, who nodded slightly as she returned to her shop.

"A deer?" Colette exclaimed, pale eyes widening. She had never heard of a deer at a smithie. A guard deer? Well perhaps they can be a little fierce at times. Her hands found their way up to the crown of his head, where she did find proof of his deerhood. Horns sprouted from his brow and Colette's delicate fingers studied them. She'd actually never been this close to a deer. Wasn't there some story about them? She knew they weren't all too common, but forgot all the rest. Blast it.
"Oh, wonderful! That makes me so glad!" It was always a relieving thing to hear that she made it to the right place. Being blind certainly didn't help her navigational skills any, and she had to leave her rascally dogs tied up near the gates. They would have wreaked havoc here in town. And with all the commotion it would have been impossible to find them and keep them contained until sundown. This has happened before, you see...
"May I? My name is Colette DuLapin, by the way. What is yours?" she asked, always opting to be polite. If there was anything her parents taught her before their deaths, it was that even a common farmgirl should have basic manners.
She would have dropped the saw out of surprisement if it weren't for the fact that the smithy mentioned she would take it beforehand. Instead, she held it out to her, grateful she was willing to fix it for her. Her other hand remained on the buck, whom she followed into the shop. Warmth began to coat her like a thick blanket of fleece and down. She stood awkwardly in the midst of it, reluctantly letting go of Aelius for a moment before realizing she didn't know where to sit.
"Umm.." she muttered, embarrassed by her disability for a moment. It wasn't usually a problem, not at home anyways where every inch of her small farm was memorized. But she always fretted over the fact that she might be an inconvenience to others. "Is there a..um, place for me to sit?" She asked timidly, wishing not to be a bother. The woman must be busy after all, working in a place like Palisade.

Aelius was more than happy to let her touch him. Yes, he was a guardian, and a rather goofy one, but still one nonetheless! And he was oh so happy to be admired by such a pretty young lady and to have a new frieennndddddd. He did perk his ears a little, and had no problem guiding her into the shop as she and his chosen spoke. He was oh so careful to not go to fast, and to leave enough room for the girl to get through. "Rosalie Satre, at your service, Miss DuLapin." Rosalie gave a slight bow, making sure Aelius was ushering her in properly. She was the slightest bit worried that she was going to be rude to her in some way, almost afraid to mention the girl's disability. She was perfectly normal, yes, only just unable to see. At the mention of a chair, she did fetch one for Colette. "Here...." Rosalie helped her sit, careful to take it slowly. "If there's anything else I can get you, don't be afraid to speak up." The woman made sure to offer, always hospitable to her customers. "I'm not sure if you'd like a cup of tea or something, but I have a few varieties on hand..." She was already suiting up again with her gloves, the saw warming up on the edge of the forge. "It might be a little noisy, it usually is with these kinds of things..." Aelius had protectively settled down by Colette's side, front legs crossed neatly. He would happily help this girl out if she needed any more assistance, especially if pats were involved.

"Rosalie is a beautiful name" Colette said softly. She wondered what the woman looked like, but only for a fleeting moment. Years of being blind taught her not to long too deeply for sight. As far as she knew, the girl would never truly see, but she got far enough by "seeing" with her hands. However, she would only "study" the face of someone she was already close to. Otherwise, that's simply rude and an invasion of space! She wouldn't want some stranger rubbing their palms on her own face, not knowing what they touched last, blind or not!
The girl sat graciously in the chair, having wandered aimlessly for quite some time now, not to mention the long hike it took to get to Palisade in the first place.
"I am fine for the moment" she replied, listening intently. The hum of the forge mixed with the rustle of thick gloves. Rich sounds helped paint the world around her the same way vast landscapes did for those with sight. She crossed her legs at the ankles and absent-mindedly waved her hand around in the air before finding Aelius' ears.
She continued to listen to the clanging of hammer to metal, each strike clear and true, almost like a church bell. Though it was very loud for her heightened sense of hearing and made her ears ring with each hit, she couldn't help but crack a small smile. She could almost feel the power and strength used by Ms. Satre. The young woman stared blankly in awe towards the forge, as if some type of magic was involved. Oh how she wished she could be strong.~Lady Kanna~ how should we integrate the winter meta? :>

Evelastina ((Was just about to do that in this post! Wanted to make sure Colette was nice and cozy beforehand. <3 )) "Thank you." She replied, giving a quiet smile. "My mother chose the name. She always wanted to have a girl..." Or so she had heard. The mother she had never gotten to meet, the one she never really heard that much about, except on rare occasions. Nevertheless, she made sure Colette was being taken care of by her guardian. "It's rare that I get a guest from out of town these days....With what's happening to the North, many have chosen to stay home, or even close up shop. Some even go on pilgrimages." She was continuing to work, though wasn't distracted in the least. Just a few things to work out before getting to sharpening it....The woman was a little worried it might be a little loud for her, though the smile on her guest's face made it clear it wasn't too bad, not for the moment at least. Aelius protectively sat by her side, though was oh so pleased to feel the beginnings of pets. Oh gosh new best friend officially. Add this girl to the list, she was amazing. He nuzzled a little against Colette's leg, egging her on for more. He wasn't the slightest bit opposed!

Colette wondered about her own parents. It had been such a long time since she was forced to live on her own as an orphan. She was lucky people took pity on her blindness and helped her every step of the way. Others might not have been so fortunate to garner the sympathy of others.
It had been so long that..she could barely remember what they were like. Only a few scattered memories remained in her head. Her father flipping pages while the fire crackled beside him. It was warm, just as he was. Her mother brushing her hair for her. She smelled like perfume.
But rather than these memories of her lost parents depressing her, she smiled, grasping onto the few nostalgic fragments that still clung to the corners of her mind.
Returning to reality, her ears, had they been animal-like, would have twitched and perked right up at the strange news. "What's happening in the north?" she inquired, her head tilting slightly. Chosen to stay home? As opposed to what, fleeing?

And even if Colette was expecting special treatment, Rosalie was being even more careful not to do so. She didn't like to treat those with disabilities like they were any different, perhaps hoping that if her own malady got any worse, she wouldn't be looked down upon herself. Even so, she was still trying to work as hard as possible on this saw for her. This was obviously important to her new customer's well being, and she wasn't going to let it be even the slightest bit half assed. Wiping the sweat from her brow, the smith set it down to cool in the water, metal hissing on contact. The smith went to get her sharpening stones, listening quietly to the girl's question. "Oh, so you haven't heard?" She asked, almost surprised that there was someone who wasn't on edge with the news. "They say the wolves have returned from the north. There's been a few attacks, though that's all from word of mouth. Your new friend there, Aelius, is also a guardian from the Wardwood. Did you ever hear the tales of the Wardens?" If she had, then she'd have an idea about what was going on....If not, she could no doubt catch her up on it.
