The golden Kingdom of Edric is an extremely grand place, with everything looking its best. There is hardly any mess; the kingdom does not tolerate sloppiness or messiness.. Although it seems overly extravagant, everything is done relatively tastefully;. nothing is gaudy, nothing is overdone or pretentious. Decorations are put up for a reason, to create a sense of empowerment and wealth to the other kingdoms, and also to push forward the sense of pride that the citizens feel for their kingdom. Everything inside the castle is smooth and gold and the walls are draped with sheer red cloth which glitter gold in the light. The entire kingdom is bathed in a golden glow from these cloths, which are found throughout, hanging from the walls of buildings, to windows, to clothing.

Fashion among the kingdom is, of course, at its peak. Citizens of the kingdom tend to dress in many layers, and colors represent the level of wealth you have acquired. For example, those that can afford to buy red and gold clothing or fabric tend to be better off than those who can only afford to buy black or brown. Gold, of course, is the most expensive and the most coveted clothing.

Magic is relatively common throughout the kingdom; it is a spoken language. Using certain phrases and words creates spells, and these words are read from various books. Magic is derived from study and learning, based upon the abilities of the person using it - though there are a few who have had it since birth (however this is relatively rare). Most spells are memorized; but some are known to still carry books.

Every person in the kingdom has what is known as a "mana stone." This is a stone particular to the person, and it is enchanted to become whatever the wielder wishes. For some it will be a weapon, perhaps, or a creature, or even some sort of element such as fire or water. A person's full magical abilities are concealed within the mana stone. When in battle, they are able to summon their enchanted mana stone and use it to their advantage.

Hunter weapons also fall under the category of summoning. They are more like glorified servants; humanoid forms that can be summoned with the right words to do the bidding of their summoner. They are bound to whomever they are linked to, but they cannot fight on their own, and they can be desummoned whenever the summoner wishes.

Reapers may retain their weapons, but they must adapt to the setting. The same goes with familiars, which are a form of magic.

Everyone is mostly human. Traits like cat ears / wings / tails / etc do not exist in this world.

The Tower sits behind the castle, to the right of it.

The people of the Gold Kingdom are a proud sort, confident in their abilities and who they are. Ranks are determined by a number of things, including (but not limited to) the ability to present yourself, how strong you are able to hold your own. There are various types of magic and abilities within the kingdom; how well you are able to control these abilities is what determines your status.

gaia_crown EMPRESSES (Queens) are the hardest rank to accomplish and the most highly esteemed beneath the Emperor. Empresses are extremely confident and intelligent. They know when to speak aloud and when to simply observe. They are capable of handling their own abilities with dignity and grace and are proud of what they do and who they serve. The Emperor is particularly picky about who becomes an Empress, as they are oftentimes the closest advisers to him.

gaia_crown GENERALS (Knights) are the ones who have the most control over their abilities. They are not necessarily the strongest, but they are capable of lowering the defense of whomever they fight against because of their quick thinking and confidence. The Generals make up those that the Emperor trusts to be the ones to protect the kingdom, and among them the most loyal.

gaia_crown ADVISORS (Bishops) are perhaps the proudest of the ranks. Their intelligence is high and their way of thinking quick and carefully thought out. They are the ones who are persuasive and enigmatic. They speak well; they are the orators, the ones who provide the Emperor with information.

gaia_crown PRACTITIONERS (Rooks) are found to be the cleverest of the ranks. They are the ones who observe and take note, rather than advance or speak aloud. They are cautious and oftentimes the stealthiest, able to use their abilities to the kingdom's advantage.

gaia_crown NOBLES (Pawns) are the lowest rank, but not disregarded by the Emperor. They are the ones who are proud enough of their own abilities to be gophers, so to speak. They are sneaky and secretive; the secret-keepers of the kingdom who are sent to discover the weaknesses of their enemies. Nobles are often overlooked because they lie beneath the other ranks, but they are still important.

gaia_crown YEOMEN (Wild Cards) are a mystery to yet be unfolded.

Mengyao Miao, played by: kurotomato
Mengyao Miao is a confident emperor, aware of his abilities and proud of them.
He does not treat the people of his kingdom as "friends," but he provides for them,
and he is defensive of what is "his" - meaning the kingdom. It belongs to him,
and therefore he will do what he can to protect it. Punishments for wrongdoers
are severe, but necessary to provide stability. Rewards are given to those who
prove themselves worthy of them, usually by providing some sort of benefit
to the Emperor or the kingdom; information, perhaps, or a strategy.

The Emperor does not enter into conflicts he finds meaningless; if they do not
benefit the kingdom in some way, then he sees little point in in participating.
Sometimes, however, these conflicts are unavoidable, and it is at these times
when the king sends forth his court to take care of it.

He is a good, intelligent man, and though he has his faults, and is oftentimes
too proud, he is loyal to his kingdom and to its people.

On every door in the glittering, golden Kingdom of Edric is tacked a scroll of parchment, requesting the citizens to come to the palace to hear the words of the Emperor.

It is not a negotiable invitation. You are a subject of the Kingdom, and your presence is required. However, this is no mere whim; whispers, rumors, questions start flying in all directions of what might have caused this sudden occurrence. Murmurs of an age old prophecy, a coming storm filter through every household like a shadow. Everyone is going to be at the palace by first light the next morning, and you are no exception.

The palace of the kingdom is grand, though grander far on the inside than the outside. Outside it is beautiful, but simple, and there is a precipice just above the front gates where the Emperor makes his appearances. It is made of a light tan stone, set in blocks, smooth and solid, and a golden rail is set up around to prevent anyone from falling over the sides. The terrace is lined with brightly blooming gold and red flowers that blossom and spread their familiar sweet fragrance to all who stand near enough to breathe it in.

The Emperor is standing at the front of the precipice when you arrive. He is flanked on either side by a set of palace guards, and there are several others behind him who seem to be those who advise and guide him. You are just one among hundreds that stand to pay their respects to their leader. You follow in the customary bow to him, but then he lifts his hand and a silence falls across the waiting crowd.

For a moment, all is quiet. There is hardly a sound, except for the occasional cough or the shuffling of one's feet. The Emperor glances briefly to the side, as though conversing with one of his associates, before he turns back to his people, a slight smile making the ends of his lips quirk upwards.

"People of the Kingdom," he starts, and his voice carries easily through to even the back of the throngs of people, low and calm and familiar. "It is time. The day of reckoning has begun."

There is a small murmur of confusion, bemusement spreading like wildfire through the people. What is it that he could mean by that? What does that entail, day of reckoning?

But the Emperor smiles, as though he has anticipated this reaction.

"I have been told," he says. "by The Voice, that the battle for our survival and for our pride is drawing nearer. The truce of the Seven Kingdoms has fallen. It is time to take our places at the forefront of them all. Our kingdom will fight for what is rightfully ours. We are strong and united, but we must not let our light be extinguished by those who do not and cannot wield their power as well as we do."

He tilts his head, as though examining something. "That is why I have called you here together today. I have been instructed to make some decisions, decisions that will shape the very foundation of this kingdom and myself. But I cannot make those decisions lightly. They must be carefully thought out, as are the rest of the things we choose to do in this land of ours.

A pause, and then he continues, a slow, serene smile spreading across his face. "I must select at least four of you to accompany me into battle. The first is an Empress. This is not to be taken lightly; my Empresses in the past have the most highly regarded of all, a person who is able to take pride in their accomplishments, whose abilities are strong and powerful.

"A General. Someone who is willing to lead Edric's finest because they are the finest of them all.

"An Advisor. The ones who will help guide the people to our fate. Your intelligence and dedication is unrivaled and unwavering.

"And last but not least, I require some Practitioners; those who are willing to provide me with loyalty and information when I require it."

The Emperor lifts a hand, beckoning you forward, as though inviting you to speak.

"I require tributes," he says. "Who among you is one that I can trust to become a part of the fight that grows steadily closer?"

OOC: THE CHOOSING

- Welcome to the Gold Kingdom. Make sure you read the above guidelines for the Kingdom before you get started. Your character has been ICly gathered to this event (see above) where the King is now talking about the choosing. Your character now has to prove themselves as a candidate for their King.
- All Kingdom players will have to ICly introduce themselves, who they are, what kind of character they are and ultimately what services they can offer to the king. Even if you were OOCly "promised" a role, everyone needs to write a choosing candidate speech.
- After the King has heard all the speeches and offerings, they will make a choice as to which ones they title.
- OOC THIS MEANS even if your characters have importance/ ranking orders, you have not icly labelled them the sacrifices yet. Today is the day you are doing so.
- The King is also free to quote players and ask them more questions, etc etc during the process. Consider it a free interaction. If your King is shy they might even just hide and mingle and talk around, or hold a social gathering or a party in order to be subtle.
- At the end of 24 hours, the King will choose which ones to be his warriors, and of which rank. The ceremony will begin!

Looking to the ‘invitation’ Lan pursed her lips. She’d arrived with all the others, dressed her finest. Greens, Blues, violets, and of course, the accented gold. Too much gold looked like you were trying too hard. Not enough and still, trying too hard to impress. You needed just the right amount to match your place. The accents in her dress was just the right amount she felt. Not too much, not too little. Presentable without overstepping.

The matters of her dress were minor however and the emperor made his speech. So, the rumors were true in part. That battles were to be fought, and peace was scattered like petals on the wind. As she listened, green and gold shoes tapped on the stone ground. The whole matter was uneasy. To become the kingdom that would reign over all? Well naturally this was to be so. After all, they had everything and their emperor was doubtlessly the best candidate to rule over all the seven kingdoms. It was just a matter of fact. Why the voice did not know this… well they would just have to take part. Crush those who stood in opposition, perhaps gain the upper hand with trickery in a few parts.

She almosted missed the final portion on the emperor’s speech. Four to be chosen to take up place in battle. Empress, General, Advisor, Practitioners… Her eyes lit up at the opportunity. A chance to rise above her station. To help give the kingdom what it deserved, to aid in their rise to their rightful place. All that would be needed- tribute. Tribute was something she could give and give willingly. Only problem was that she didn’t quite have a whole lot on hand to give as leverage.

Most discouraging.

As she mulled it over it became quickly apparent just what she had that would show her loyalty and devotion to the cause.

She did not raise her hand up and cry out that she volunteered. No, what Lan did was something far simpler. Making her way to a place where she might look her emperor in the eye she brought forth her mana stone, holding it in her hands as she began to speak.

“You royal majesty, I am Lan, one of your loyal subjects and I admit, I did not expect such grave tidings. Yet your words are true. This kingdom has been united by your skill, wisdom, and power. You have given us prosperity when others might have it ripped from us. The kingdom flourishes, and the other kingdoms do not know that which they too might have if they were to be ruled by your guiding hand.

You ask to be aided in the decisions to come, and so you show once more your wisdom. That you would ask us, your subjects to come forward and give you counsel. You speak of how we must take our rightful place. This kingdom is great and I wish that we might bring this greatness to all, that all might now of the majesty of Edric. I wish to serve you your majesty, I wish to serve this great kingdom and her people. Allow me to stand beside you. I shall not fail you, as my heart, my soul, belong to this land. To you I offer my mind and my magic. I will serve you and your people until we have achieved our rightful place.”

Bowing, she held up her mana stone, as her tribute would be what she valued most. Her mind, and her magic.

Mjoll stood there watching the gathering she'd tried to get here as early as possible. Promptness, it was her first rule in a long list of many. She straightened her dress and listened to the announcement when the time came. Brilliant blue eyes lifted to her Emperor, as she played with her bleach blonde hair.

It was then the request for tributes came from the Emperor. "I Volunteer!" she called raising her hand. Looking steadily, towards the small congregation around the Emperor. She was ready to serve, and her creativity she was sure could be used.

Her primness and outfits all hand crafted out of the best materials that she could afford. Nothing less than perfection even things she took the time to craft for those around her, her closest circle. She went for opulence, but not gaudy.

"I am Mjoll. I craft nothing but the best for our people." She was rather opinionated about who the best was at crafting. "My skills would be most useful to you I'm sure." She smiled, "Everything is absolutely done to perfection. If it's not perfect it does not leave my hands. Only the best for the best."

She shifted on her feet as she thought, "I'm very sure I can craft nothing but the best armor, which it sounds we shall be in need of." She gave another bow and stepped back, almost giving the Emperor a sparkled eyed look of hope. The things she could make if she was that close to he Emperor and to be one of his most trusted. There was a wistful sigh as she thought about the things she could craft.

Jay was not an observant child. She didn’t even notice there was something hanging above the doorways as she flitted from one building to the next. It was only when she bumped into another person who was standing beneath the doorway that she realized there was a scroll placed on each doorway. Casually, she placed her hands on the taller person’s shoulders so she could lift herself up and read the words written on the paper. Wide eyes grew even larger as she shrieked. “Awesome!”

She awoke earlier than usual, with an eager grin adorning her face. Jay took extra care in her appearance; she combed her long hair multiple times until it ran silky smooth beneath her fingers. She fretted over the wrinkles of her red and blue dress, and fretted over it still as she stepped outside to walk toward the palace. How fortunate that she woke early, considering it took her quite a while to finally make her way to the meeting place after getting distracted by the architecture and décor 1293203948 times.

Her hand ran over the tiny gold trimmings of her sleeves while she looked up to the emperor. Reckoning. Battle. Those were the words that caught her attention the most. They made her fold her arms over her chest while she continued to look on with a gleeful smirk. Jay found it difficult to remember the positions he called out, but she was always willing to help.

She leaned over to her side as she energetically flailed an arm in the air. “Me! I volunteer! My name is Jay, and I have absolutely no doubt that our kingdom will be victorious. I do not know how I may help, but I am useful with my hands and I like to think of myself as the best imitator around. A voice, mannerisms, an attack! I can do it all. This kingdom is my home, so I will do whatever it takes for us to rein supreme.”

Then Jay leaned over and whispered, “Hi Lan.” OvO

The scroll had appeared suddenly upon her door. Seeing that it was a royal invitation sent Meixiang's heart a flutter.

Until she realized that everyone had received the same invitation as she had.

No fair.

Oh well. The invitation wasn't something to pass up. Even if she decided not to go she was required to. By royal decree. Dressed in her best, she made her way to where everyone was gathered. Slipping her hands inside her long billowy sleeves while dark brown eyes locked on their Emperor. Listening closely to everything he said. Ignoring those around her for the moment. As if he were merely talking to her.

The air filled with murmured chattering once he had finished.

Tributes? Stand at the Emperor's side and help him in this most interesting time. This was surely something that she could not just scoff at. An open invitation for anyone who might reach out and take that brass ring.

She waited until others had taken their turn before she moved closer. Slipping her hands out from her sleeves and giving the Emperor a bow. "Meixiang at your service, my Emperor." Straightening herself a bit, she kept her eyes lowered. Looking the Emperor in the eyes was so gauche until he recognized your presence. And even then it was perhaps thin ice to skate on. Though she did not know him personally, her actions were all out of great respect.

"I have great observation skills. Am small and agile. If you were to require me to climb to great heights or slip into small spaces to find information that you deem important, then allow me the honor, please."

Her lips drew tight before relaxing. Only a little bit nervous. But she tried her best not to show it.

The note attached to his door that morning had come as a surprise, but not a pleasant one. Following the throng of fellow citizens and note-ridden doors like a paper trail, Kiwi gathered in the center of the hushed crowd. Then their lord spoke.

Reckoning. It was a word that stirred his blood equally with excitement and worry. Such an unsettling feeling weighed on his chest, and sank deep into the pit of his stomach. Something had to be done about this for the good of all. He unfurled a hand into the air, calling attention a moment before he spoke. "I volunteer for the role of General, my lord. I know how to predict an enemy's move and combat it, and I feel such expertise in the areas of war could be quite beneficial to our people. Especially during such a crisis as may befall us."

And with a humble bow Kiwi sank back in among his fellow denizens.

- He is a lanky citizen clothed in robes of black, layered over with simple red and gold embossed cloth. His brown hair is done up into a slightly loose and messy bun, held together with hairpins and adorned with giant red spider lilies and golden chains that dangle and loop down. Any jewelry he wears is also made of solid gold, matching his naturally golden eyes, which he is secretly quite proud of. And if one were to glimpse his bare back, they would find the crimson stain of wings etched across his skin.

- Having a wise understanding of the art of battle, he works within the kingdom as a practiced tactician; namely, hands-on teaching others the finer aspects of how to fight and defend oneself.

Bastion had no door to receive a royal invitation from. At the time the notices had been put out, he was sleeping his last coins worth of ale away in a bush near the house of a delightful young woman that had turned him down flat the moment he asked her - by burping in her face - if she wanted a go. So, when he woke up that morning, instead of finding a notice and an invitation to the ball palace, he found himself sporting a throbbing headache and a torn shirt. Perhaps that woman had ripped his shirt off in the throes of love - no, now he remembered, she almost ripped his heart out with those terrible, long nails..

He was wallowing at the bottom of the heap, but it never stopped him from looking for a silver lining.

He stood up and brushed the filth and leaves off of him, walking over to the door of the woman and unraveled the string of his trousers. He'd leave her a present at her doorstep- but wait, what was this? He tied himself back up and ripped the notice off the door, reading it quickly.

Mandatory? Palace? Summons?

His silver lining presented itself like a glorious beacon of revenge.

"I hope you get hanged for not coming to this, trollop." Bastion growled at the door, as he snuck away with the notice in his hand. An hour later, after dunking himself in a stream and giving himself enough time to dry, a slick haired, fresh smelling Bastion was present for the announcement. He listened very carefully, and made his decision almost immediately - which was, of course, to stay the hell out of the way and let other people put their lives on the line. The kingdom had done nothing for him, why should he-

"I volunteer!"

His heart spasmed at the sound of her voice. What rotten luck; what god had he pissed on in the heavens to have this kind of bad fortune?! The only girl he'd ever actually wanted, the only one worth more than a romp in the hay, the only one he'd probably give his life for, AND THERE SHE WAS JUST GIVING IT AWAY.

Stupid, STUPID WOMAN.

And yet, he had to ask himself, who was stupider? The woman, or the man who followed?

"At your service, my liege. I'm sure you could use someone who excels in stealth and comm-mmmmm-mmunn-" Gods, but she was so close he could smell her. "-TALKING. I mean. I will be. Good. For that."

...

Just behead him now, and make it quick.

Aedan had made his way to the palace, along with every other citizen of Edric, to hear the emperor speak. He'd found his invitation when he'd gotten home the evening before, although he'd already heard whispers about the mysterious invitations long before he'd returned to his own residence. He was dark skinned, with the barest of rosy undertones, pale hair, and amber-colored eyes. It was a striking combination, offset nicely by his orange and red clothing, accented with hints of gold. It wasn't enough to mark him as wealthy, but was suitably well-made to indicate that he wasn't struggling, either.

As the Emperor spoke, explaining the kingdom-wide summons, Aedan slowly found himself creeping forward. It was far more than he'd been expecting--he wasn't sure just what he'd anticipated this gathering would be about, but it hadn't been this. With that said, he felt pride in his kingdom, and its leadership, make him stand a little straighter. He was young, and while he had some natural talent in that direction (or so he'd been told), he was still not as skillful as one might wish with his magic.

What, then, did he have to offer the Emperor, as fitting tribute?

A few others made their way forward immediately, to pledge their services before he stepped up, bowing his head respectfully for a moment before speaking.

"Your majesty, I am Aedan, and while I'm surprised at this news, I would offer my services, in whatever capacity they might best aid you. I have some limited skills with magic, which is yours if you need it, but more than that, you have my unwavering loyalty--tell me how I can best serve you, and I will do my absolute best to fulfill expectations...or sacrifice myself trying."

Without waiting for any sort of acknowledgement, Aedan bowed his head again and backed up, letting the crowd re-absorb him, exhaling slowly.

He'd never thought of himself as the self-sacrificing type, but what did he have to offer, other than himself? And while he'd never thought of himself as being overly patriotic (he took pride in their kingdom, and in their Emperor, who really was one to do what he felt was best for the kingdom, but wasn't the type to go composing odes to their street names, or anything equally...obsessive), perhaps it had merely been waiting for an event like this to bring it to the fore...

She had done the best she could, when she received her invitation - a chance at shining through and assisting her country, no matter how she would come around to doing so. She wasn't aware that everyone had been requested to the castle, although as she had arrived in her attempts to show up early enough to be closer to the King's location when he came out to speak - she was not as blessed as he was, stature wise - and so she had hoped to be within ear and eyeshot. His voice did reach all, but it was better when you could read your King's movements along-side his words.

So she was there, standing in the crowd in a dress as modest as she could make it - whilst her ranking kept her from melding with the crowd - a lesser noble, one of the few ranked high enough to be considered a pen-mate for the King in his youth. She had listened to his ramblings as a child - along side the others who were allowed in his presence before he was whisked away to be prepared to take over his true nature as King.

So she stood as well as she could, in a simple, but red and gold-embelished dress, white accents cutting the design a bit, a play for the eyes - long dark hair pulled back in a simple braid. Mismatched eyes keenly watched over him with his words, and the cries of Tribute singing through the crowd as those brave enough to offer themselves to his call of arms.

A small smile played on her face when she watched the other nobless woman walk up and offer herself to the fight - Lifen had secretly admired the little Lady - she was so strong for such a little miss, bold and proud.

Taking a few steps forward after a few people had offered themselves up to him, she gave him a curt bow, before lifting her face again, a bold pride on her face, showing no quirk or waver in her look.

"I volunteer." Two words, as clear as day, before continuing. She was a woman of little words.

"I volunteer as Empress - I can only offer myself, as I am all I can use towards whatever fuels this foreward. Please use me to your needs, Sire." She quipped, giving him a secretive look, before stepping aside, looking behind her, almost expecting others to pull up their skirt tails and follow in the original few's steps.

Such a beautiful kingdom had it's denisens, and they needed it, it was almost an expectation that they'd be willing to lay down their lives that was so graciously given to them. If they needed a voice, she would be there, if he accepted her.
