'You know, it really is too rude of you guys to not respond to all my questions, could at least give yes or no answers!'
Anyone passing by the stallion would presume he was speaking to himself, or maybe even the air. In fact, he was in all seriousness talking to the sluggish fish he could see in the mud of the river bed. He had been itching to have a good, long conversation with someone, and everything else with ears had come to recognise the sound of his voice and had fled at the mere start of a question.
Birds, rabbits, deer..anything out and about on this fine winter's morning had been approached but so far Coconut had had no luck, and the fish had been the only thing that hadn't been able to escape.
'C'mon, do tell me, how do you breathe down there? I imagine it's breathing bubbles only not..' he tilted his head as he thought for a moment about that might be before putting his nose under the icy water, and spluttering a few seconds later as it went up his nose, the ensuing coughing fit actually quieting him for a few minutes.

Wings buzzed softly, giving off the implication bees were still out and about in the cold weather. Little flecks of golden light trailed behind the mare and her busily noisy wings as she nosed through the snow in the field. She paused after a moment, eyes darting about to look at the various tracks through the snow before her.
'Unusual...looks like everyone is avoiding something today.' She thought, beginning to wonder if the larger hoof prints belonged to a Kalona. Or even worse, a Skinwalker. Staccato let her thoughts wander a bit on the subject, deciding to stay alert to her surroundings since it was still technically early. By her clock anyway.
A voice caught her attention after a while, her wings settling into silence to listen out of curiosity's sake.
'Breathe? Breathe down where?' She thought, deciding to follow the voice and coming upon the stallion just as he snorted up a bunch of water. 'Oh. I see...' Staccato sighed inwardly as she watched him bumble around the river, wondering just who he could be talking to in it. It was far too shallow for any Seathi to swim up this late in the year after all.
"Hey! You lost or somethin'? If it's not someone else, yer scarin' everything and everyone off!"

The coughing fit had let to sneezing, and now his eyes were watering. He looked blearily up to see who the voice belonged to, and what he saw was enough to make him break into a smile.
'Excuse me..' he said, walking away, taking a moment to wipe his head in the snow to clean and clear it, before giving himself a shake, and approaching the mare the with the wonderful wings. Ice crystals still clung about his face and mane, and he looked like he'd been frosted as he spoke to her.
'Was I? I mean, I was only talking to the fish, you see they seem like they need someone to speak to when it's all chilly-chilly cold like this, and I was only asking how they managed to breathe under all that liquid, and then I tried to see how they might do it..' he gave a minute pause here, taking a breath and then; 'But now you're here, all buzzy buzzy like the prettiest bee ever. Was your mother a bumblybee? How did you get those wings?'
And here Coconut stopped, as even he knew that occasionally he would have to let the other say something in order to get all his answers

Staccato pulled her head back slightly as he approached, the buzzing of her wings stopping immediately. She was used to this type of babbling from one of her nephews, but shutting herself down usually turned him away to find others.
Unfortunately that didn't seem to be working. With a sigh, she decided to humor the stallion. At least a little bit.
"No one talks to the fish. They don't talk back neither. Or care. At least...not in my personal observation." She started, looking him up and down, idly wondering what was going on his head to think such thoughts. "And none of us can breathe like the fish, ya know. None of us that walk on land, or fly anyway."
The mare huffed softly as he took interest in her wings and made a point to firmly press them against her back and sides. "No. She wasn't. We're not bees. We're...called 'flutters'. Such a prissy name. Awful really. Can't stand it. At least we don't have those awful butterfly wings..." She grumbled and eyed him up and down once more.
"I'd gladly trade ya for those wings if I could..."

Coconut's lower lip jutted out in disappointment as the wings stopped moving and for a short while he just stared at them, willing the mare to set them in motion again. When no movement was forthcoming, his attention went back to the mare as a whole and what she was saying.
'Really? Maybe they respond but it's all in, I don't know, fishese, and no one round here speaks fishese, and they get all moody because no one can understand them. I mean, I know I'd get all moody if I was talking, and talking and talking and no one replied.' he said, chattering away again.
'Though that does sometimes happen. Which is a bit gloomy. But then I find something new and I want to talk about it again and you do want my wings? We can swap!' he gave a short bounce on his front hooves and turning chased his wings around and around like a dog chasing its tail for a bit, before he managed to grab hold of some feathers in his teeth and gave a yank. All that happened was that he got a mouthful of feathers, which he duly poofed out of his mouth in front of the mare. 'There?' he said, with a wide grin.

She winced slightly as she watched him rip his own feathers out. Despite what anyone would say, that looked painful.
"Uhh...thanks...I guess." She murmured, cautiously taking a few of the feathers and tucking them into her tail. "But I can't do that to mine." The little insect wings buzzed to life again briefly, in an attempt to allow him to see how vastly different they were and how painful it would be if she were to pull them.
"Anyway like ah said to begin with! Yer scarin' off everyone and all the animals around here. Why are you here anyway?"

The removal hadn't really hurt that much, and he was sure a few of them had been loose already. At least that's what Coconut would tell himself, though there was a slight twinge to be felt in the wing he had plucked.
'Shame..though they do look really good on you.' he watched them in fascination again, speaking when they stopped moving.
'I really would like to see how they looked on me.' he tilted his head, trying to imagine himself with flumblebee wings (his every moving mind having smooshed together what she'd called herself and what he thought she was).
'Am I? I don't know why, do I look really scary or something? I mean I don't have big teeth, or pointy spikes, or dripping blood, or HUUUGE claws or fiercesome wings or or..any of that!' he finished with an emphatic nod.

"Maybe you'll get lucky and somehow grow a pair after ya pull all yer feathers out." She told him, before quickly thinking on that. "Actually, don't. Don't do that. You'll look stupid and it won't work." She didn't want to be responsible for causing some major damage to someone, although the idea of him walking around with bald wings was absolutely hilarious in her mind.
"And yeah, ya are! Your babbling to the fish and I'm gonna assume everyone else...since yer talking to me now...ya chased 'em all off!"

'I think I won't do that, if there was a way to get new wings without the painful way of removing my old ones then I'm sure I would do it, but that doesn't sound too nice a way..so I won't.'
Coconut gave a little nod, shifting his weight where he stood and then idly bouncing the end of his long mane braid on a hoof before looking at the flumblebee mare.
'Really? I didn't think talking was scary..it's only my voice, and it doesn't sound scary to me.' the stallion crossed his eyes, trying to look at his mouth as he spoke and then bent and looked in the river whilst he made 'ooh' and 'aah' sounds to see that way if there was something he had missed.
'No? I don't see the scariness. And anyway!' he exclaimed suddenly, giving a bounce, his wings flapping at the same time. 'I can't be that scary if you are here talking to me then can I? Eh? Eh?' he was pleased with himself for that little bit of 'logic'.

"Well...talkin' isn't all that scary, I suppose. I'm sure it's because yer talkin' to everyone despite if they want to or not. Which explains the fish..." She trailed off as she watches him go back to the water to watch himself. She had to admit, she found him somewhat fascinating.
Staccato couldn't help but smile a bit to herself every time he came up with some sort of logical answer. "Yeah, that's true. Ya haven't chased me off. Yet." She told him with a smirk, buzzing her wings again to match his own flapping.
"Well...don't suppose ya live around here? Never seen ya around before and I come from the forest nearby."

Coconut looked quite forlorn at that thought, ears and wings slightly a-droop, and gave a little shake of his head.
'But I only want to taaaalk, where's the harm in that? I just want to be friendly and chatty, and find out what everyone is thinking out, what they are a-doing, and where they are a-going.' he checked himself, realising he was letting his mouth run on again, and shut it with a barely audible sound.
He twitched his ears when the mare asked him a question, and tried to work out how to answer her without speaking, his eyes rounded and his cheeks puffing as he mumbled a closed-mouth reply.
'Mot mum mmound mere..' he said, and then let his breath out with a whooshing sound.

Staccato rolled her eyes at him and his sudden decision to try and avoid talking. "Look, ya haven't chased me off. Remember? So ya can talk just fine. Plus there's no one else around except yer frozen fish buddies." She snorted and walked over to the river, looking down at the poor, sluggish fish.
"....so yer not from around here? Is that what you were tryin' ta avoid sayin'?" She asked, glancing over her shoulder at him. "I can tell. Everyone around here either lives in the forest and never comes out, or leaves come winter."

'What's your name then? I'mmm Coconut!' Coconut blurted out, having been given permission by what was surely the most patient mare in the world. Or she had the ability to tune out nonsense. Either way, if she was to be a willing ear, he would happily oblige her.
'Yes, yes, seeee, you are a good, good mare for me to talk to, you can understand all my words, even my words when I'm not trying to make words.' he said, with a broad grin.
'Leaves? Because of the wintery cold? I can do this, so I don't need to leave.' he scooped his braid up with one leg, and with some juggling, head-bobbing and twisting motions had wrapped the length of it around his neck like a scarf.
'All toasty-toasty now.' he said, striking a quick pose. 'I don't have a wheres to go anyway, no family, not that I know of, I guess I must have parents somewhere, I don't think I just appeared..'

"Staccato." She told him, leaning down to take a quick drink of the freezing water. After a good long drink, she turned her attention back to him. "That's my name. And it's really not all that hard ta understand ya. At least sometimes anyway." She said, walking back over to circle him curiously, watching as the braid circled his neck.
The mare snorted and shook her head at him, unable to stop an amused smirk. "Yer somethin' else. Ya remind me a lot of one of my brother's kids."

'That's really pretty, does it mean anything?' Coconut asked, watching the pretty little flumblebee as she took a drink. He wasn't familiar with what it felt like to feel admiration for someone, but it was possible he'd developed a little infatuation with her for being willing to listen to him.
Which meant for now he wanted nothing more than to follow her around, and be within her hearing range. He gave a little hoof shuffle closer to her and then looked slightly puzzled.
'Am I not Coconut, what else would I be?' his brow wrinkled, ears a twitch as he tried to work out her meaning.
'Oh? Is that a good reminder, or is a bad reminder?' He didn't really pay attention to the fact that she'd said he reminded her of a 'kid', he was only worried that she might think better of carrying on a conversation with someone who stirred unhappy thoughts.
