It was a glorious night; crisp, fresh, possibly even biting but because it was cold night the sky was clear, no cloud cover to obstruct the eyes view of the celestial light display.
Vatsa liked these sorts of winter nights, if you kept moving you could spend much of it outside of shelter, and it was even better when the air was still, just the night sounds to keep you company, and no soggy, or clinging snow to make you wish you were tucked away somewhere warm.
He was walking now, keeping his gaze flickering between the ground so that he didn't turn a hoof on a stone, and the sky in case he was lucky enough to see a shooting star. His mother, on one of the rare occasions she'd spoken to him long enough to call it a conversation, had told him about shooting stars and that one was traditionally meant to make a wish when they saw one. He'd yet to catch sight of one during his life yet but had kept a coltish hope of eventually doing so.
He slowly climbed a hill that rose out of a small cluster of trees and once at the top just stopped for a while, taking in the view.

Sitting at the top of a hill not far from a large tree Blight shivered uncontrollably. She had not expected to be caught so far from her warm tree hollow and so far out on the plain. 'Why oh why did I chase that odd light!' She moaned inwardly. "I guess now I am going to freeze to death for chasing wisps..." She shivered again and her wings made an odd tinkling noise, like bells covered in ice. Her own father would have laughed at her. The big burly Unicorn loved nights like this. Her mother a more delicate Flutter always thought that one should be warm at night. She tended to agree with her mother more. With a small laugh that almost hurt due to the cold air she tried to move her legs. To her complete horror they wouldn't respond.

Vatsa had spent several minutes staring up at the inky blackness, looking at the distant twinkling lights, watching for any that might seem to be moving. After a time though, and with the cold slowly seeping up his legs, he shifted, stamping his hooves to regain the feeling and slowly turned around.
As he did so he thought he heard a strange, soft tinkling type sound, and his head turned this way and that as he tried to locate the source of the sound. He thought he heard more sounds and with a little more listening, determined the direction that they were coming from.
He clipped forwards, his braided tail swishing behind him, and paused, losing the sound for a moment, and so called out instead; 'Someone there?'

Blight whipped her head around at the approaching of another. She hoped up and down that it wasn't a skin walker. She moved her head around and tried to force her muscle to work. After a few moments she noticed she had one leg working. With a great jerk she broke free of the cold hold on her and promptly fell at the feet of a large stranger that was in too much shadow to make out their features. She shrieked and cowered her whole body shaking from cold and fear. "Please don't eat me!" She said with a voice punctuated by shivers.

To Vatsa it seemed like a whole lot of things happened at once; noise of someone moving, a body tumbling and then coming to rest against his legs and then a frightened exclamation.
'What? what?' he peered down in the gloom, snuffling at the little winged mare, trying to find her head in amongst the shivers.
'I'm not going to eat you.' he said, trying to keep his voice as low and soothing as possible. 'You need to get off the ground though, you'll get ill being there.' he pushed her gently, trying to get her to stand.

Blight lifted her head and stared into the face of a purple stallion. He was obviously not a skin walker. She was relieved but still rather wary. No matter her easy going nature she was always nervous around new people, for she didn't know what they could do or what they were capable of. She stood as quickly as her icy legs would allow and looked at him with a plain look on her face hoping it wouldn't give anything away. "Who are you...?" She said slowly with those damn shivers making her sound foolish.

Vatsa wondered how it was possible that the mare could shake so much and not make a hole a snow, though he refrained from making a comment to that effect as she seemed fairly shaken still.
'Vatsa. Are you cold or scared? If it's cold, move around some, it should help. If it's scared..well, I can only assure you again that I won't eat you. You're not grass, and therefore in no danger.' he smiled encouragingly at the mare, noticing that she was not only dainty, but pretty, with interesting markings that would bear closer inspection when it was daylight.

Blight stared at Vatsa. 'What an odd name..' She thought to herself before his words registered. "Sorry for thinking you were a skinwalker or kolona. They frighten the daylights out of me." She fluttered her wings a little to generate some minor heat in her back. She moved one leg experimentally and found it unlocked finally. With a light prance she started walking around the stallion to get a better look at him. He had such odd markings but they fit him quite well. It was the chain around his neck that caught her as strange. Realizing she was being rude she stated, "My name is Blight. It is nice to meet you Vatsa. Now that I know you won't eat me." She repeated this to be funny but after the words were out of her mouth she almost regretted them.

Vatsa thought the same of the mare's name; it seemed rather a harsh one considering how delicate she was. He wondered what the story was behind it.
'They are pretty terrifying to most I would say, especially skinwalkers.' He'd heard stories of the creatures, and felt that you would have to be pretty foolhardy not to be wary of them.
'Do I really look that scary?' he said, raising a brow slightly. He wasn't sure what about him said 'I'm ferocious and going to gnaw on your flesh', other than this mare being of the sort that frightened easily.
