The glow of flame and metal kept the building well lit, and rather dry. Snow had began to fall upon Palisade, making travel more scarce, though business was booming. Many had realized the horseshoes upon their horses needed replacing, or that those beloved to them required a gift. Of course, many other reasons were abound for those frequenting the various metalworkers of the city, though a small, but fairly steady, amount made their way to this particular shop. The clang of metal on metal was familiar to the area, and certainly wasn't missing on this particular day. Rosalie paused for a moment to sweep back her hair again, her usual bun falling out of place, and got back to work. This particular piece was just for the regular shop stock, nothing fancy like the pendants made for noblewomen. It was almost half past noon, and her stomach had been begging for sustenance for the past few hours. No, not yet. She was almost done, and then she could let it rest for a while, perhaps do some detailing. The shop was fully open, the hot air melting any snow that dared get near the door or windows. A rather puffed up rook sat on the sill of one of them, regarding various passerbys with a glimmering eye. This wasn't the only wildlife within the shop, however, as a buck was nestled in his bed of hay in the far corner. Aelius dozed for the moment, the heat soothing him to sleep.

The clack clack clack of horse shoes echoed off the buildings as beautiful gypsy vanner mare moved along the brick streets. Her lovely rider perched elegantly upon her back. The snow fell silently around them as they moved along, past the shops and blacksmiths. Just as silently as the snow, the rider dismounted with remarkable grace. She grabbed the reins of the mare and lead her closer to a blacksmith and peered in.
Pale blue eyes widened as she gazed at the woman working in the smithy. It was uncommon, nearly rare, to see a woman working in this field. But sometimes, it was a woman who had the right touch to work metal into a certain way. So, the woman with the pale blue eyes cleared her throat and said, "Excuse me...are you open?"
The mare behind her, black and white like is traditional, snorted and shifted her weight. She was the woman's newest purchase at a recent autumn horse fair. Like at the fair, she was well tempered and sweet and given the name Luludja. Luludja had snorted because she smelt the magic of the area and most especially the deer within. Her mistress had no idea but followed the old ways, and while she'd be surprised, it would be a pleasant one to her.

The sound of horse hooves were far from foreign to the ears of all the occupants within by now. Few had been by to be fitted, though mostly they just passed by. It was the sudden stop, not far from the shop, that caught the woman's attention. Shuu let out a call, fluttering over to land on Aelius' horns to confirm. Yes, a customer, potential at least, had arrived. "Give me just a minute and I'll be right with you." Rosalie called back over her shoulder. She was nearly done shaping the fine ring of metal, and it wouldn't take much longer to smooth it down....It didn't even take the full minute before she dropped it into the waiting pail of water, and removed her gloves, setting things back in order. A cloth took off the light layer of soot from the fire off her face, and she dusted her clothes off before sauntering over. "Sorry about that....Now how can I help you, miss?" She favored her right foot, leaning just the slightest bit. The guardian opened an eye lazily to greet the customer, settling back down. However, Shuu seemed to have other ideas, and gave a firm peck upon the buck's head. Aelius grunted, not pleased by the idea of getting up. He was so comfortable and warm after all....But another peck got him to his feet, and the rook flew somewhere upstairs, cackling in victory. Not only did he see this woman, but also a rather splendid mare behind her. Not kin...But company nonetheless. He stayed to the back corner, watching both of them curiously. Was there to be more book money today?

Luludja eyed the buck quietly and then snorted, her flanks twitching and rippling smoothly under her thick winter pelt. Luludja then bumped her mistress gently and stretched her neck past her and sniffed at the deer. Her senses told her he was not a normal deer, but a guardian. A light thrill ran through the mare and she nickered good naturally. Svetlana smiled at the woman and like her almost immediately. She seemed pleasant enough, hard working, and a eye for her work from what she could see. And most of all, a woman doing what society calls a man's job. "Oh please tell me you have some time. I have a fine piece that needs to tlc," she started to say as she pulled out a velvet wrapped package that was big enough to not be for a lady or even a man. Carefully she unwrapped it and showed the woman blacksmith. It was intricate and elegant and clearly for a horse. It was also not something a person would use to just simply ride a horse. It also looked from another country which would make sense as the lady spoke with a Belatranian (Russian) accent. "This piece, I need it for this mare and time has not been kind to it. I've done my best but I'm no magic worker nor a blacksmith." She looked sheepishly at the woman. "Would you be able to fix it up?"

Aelius got a little bit more curious about the full sized horse, and strode over to her to take a better look. He didn't seem to mind Svetlana too much, just walking carefully past her before he got to Luludja. Giving her the typical greeting, at least for his kin, he bumped noses gently with the mare, and got to sniffing her. How interesting~! "Of course I have time! I don't turn anyone in need of help down." She confirmed, coming closer to take a look at the package and its contents. She took a look at the object, careful to take note of where exactly it would need to be fixed. "Ah, this won't be too much of a problem. Does it fit correctly currently?" That would be the important part. If it did fit, it needed to stay that way. If it didn't, she'd have to make adjustments. Not too difficult, but still just a bit of a pain either way. "Some of the metal looks like it needs replacing, but I've got plenty to do so with. It won't take too long either."

Luludia nickered at the deer in a pleasant tone and and then snorted at him in greeting. She reached out her muzzle after he bumped her nose and blew softly in his face, her breath smelling of sweet grasses and oats. She tosses her tail to the side and shook her head. Luludia was one of many "words" so to speak. She was very interactive and affectionate. Svetlana was temporarily distracted by the handsome buck as he passed her to reach her mare. She watched them a moment before turning her gaze back to the smithwoman and answered her. "It does fit her. How lucky was I that it did, but alas it does need those repairs which I was not so lucky for. But I was able to meet you and set my eyes upon one of these guardians." He gaze appraised the buck one more time before returning to Rosalie. "Oh thank you again for repairing this. It has been in my family for some time and was a gift from my brother. Anyway, shall I wait here or come back in the morning?"

Aelius was already rather fond of this not-deer friend, especially when she smelled so nice! He would be out joining her for grass and oats if he weren't here at the smithy, making sure his chosen was doing her work. He continued to investigate this guest, curious especially about this tail of hers. He had no such thing! Rosalie didn't seem to notice, or mind for that matter, Svetlana's distraction, and was already hard at work making preparations. She glanced up a few times as she looked the item over, appraising it. "It's good that it fits, it makes it easier for both of us." She nodded, finally moving her focus to her new customer. "Oh it's not a problem, don't worry about it. It won't take too long, but if you have somewhere to be, it might be best to check back in the morning, if you don't mind. As for Aelius, I was just as surprised when he popped into my life. It's nice to have the company, as much trouble as he can be." The buck snorted in objection, looking slightly offended, to which she gave a sigh, looking back to Svetlana. "Have you not seen one before?"
