PROFILE
Name: Emora
Age: 18
Gender: female
Sexuality: straight
Craft: Beastcraft, Specialty in Runnerbeasts
Rank: Journeyman
Appearance: Emora is slim lithe, and built not so unlike the runners she breeds and races with little fat on her body and a compact hardy build. Standing at 5'3 and weighing in around 120 she makes a rather ideal jockey. Her skin is pale, but flushed with a healthy tan from many a day spent out riding or tending to the animals. Her hair is a long, wild rich main of light blond framing white blue eyes the color of fresh snow on ice and just as hard and determined. She prefers practical warm leather clothing with worn fingerless gloves, good strong boots and always has a couple of sweet cubes in her pocket for dealing with less cooperative runners.
Personality: Emora is a rather fiery chipper young woman who's quick to smile and quicker still to laugh. She's usually somewhere near the center of a crowd being a show-woman herself and entertainment comes as naturally to her as breathing. Years of working alongside her father selling, breeding, and training runners has taught her the nuisances of body language and timing and with a quick wit to take advantage of this she can have a group roaring with laughter in no time. Her true talent though lies with runners and other winged or hooved beasts. It's rather clear that while she has skill with humans that Emora greatly prefers the company of animals and spends most of her free time in the stables. After all runners and flits don't try to cut your riding straps and can hardly grasp the complex morals around the idea of 'cheating' even less do it. In her mind they're far superior company and the fact they don't bother with false sentiments only adds to that opinion.
A perfectionist at heart she can't stand to leave a job half done or in shambles and takes great pains to make sure her runner is properly groomed, her flit's hide has been cared for and everything is in it's proper place. This goes the same for stunt riding where quick reactions if not done right the first time could land you right in the dirt on your butt or with a broken neck. If it's going to break then she doesn't want it and almost all of her clothing and gear is hard worn and tough equipment that will see her through for many years to come. While Emora has her own simple wild beauty like the first wild flowers of spring prying up through the snow she see's little use for the impracticality of dresses and other fashion conscious clothing. It looks good on her? Great, but will it keep her warm when she's out racing in the bitter cold?
However Emora is not always the hard bitten racer, but possesses a strong sense of empathy that both allows her to calm her upset runners, sooth her irritated flit or perhaps pick up that maybe that rider wasn't being so true with her words when she said she was 'ok.' While she'll never be one to coddle Emora is more then happy to lend a shoulder to cry on and is happy to act as the rock amidst the storm. She's the type of person to fetch you and cup of klah and then help you figure out your problem. However what you're crying over had best be something worth crying over. Don't come to Emora if you just want to complain and complain and do nothing about the problem.
If there is one thing Emora cannot tolerate it's lazy, self entitled, whiners. If you're some prim little lady from a holders family don't come crying to her because the candidate chores are just too rough for your delicate little hands. She is completely intolerant of this sort of behavior and until you prove her otherwise all she'll consider you good for is to just sit there and look pretty if you can even manage to do that half decent. In fact with these people Emora can be down right prickly and will have no qualms making her disapproval of them known. Some might complain and say she's acting the bully, but as far as she's concerned life is survival of the fittest. If you're not strong enough to take a little rough housing and an insult or two then you certainly aren't fit enough to survive in a much larger much more cold cut throat world that resides outside the precious little bubble of your perfect world
When it comes to something she wants, something she's worked hard for Emora can be no holds barred ruthless. She's far from afraid of wading in with dagger and fist if need be to prove her point and isn't going to be so easily cowed as a number of Igen men have come to find. However her single minded pursuit of her goals often leaves her with enemies in her wake and as far as she's concerned as long as she employed no dirty tactics then she has nothing to apologize for. The ends will suit the means and as long as you don't fight dirty she won't fight dirty. However if provoked one should be prepared for all out war when it comes to competition with this candidate.
History: Born to Ruatha Hold Emora could ride before she could so much as walk. Her father Eran was one of the finest runnermen and breeders on Pern of the famed Ruathian runners and born in turn like Emora to a long and old line of Beastcrafters. While Emora's mother had hoped to make a fine lady out of her it was quickly apparent that like her father before her she was destined to live her life in the saddle unlike her younger much snootier little sister who preferred to cling close to her mother's skirts and study the ways of fashion and house. Lacking a son Eran took his eldest daughter under his wing and taught her his craft instilling in her a love for the great beasts and a need for speed and gait. After a time Eran found that having his young daughter on the road with him for gathers and races proved a savy business move. After all if the beast was smooth and gentle enough he would trust his little child to ride astride it's great back then surely a big strong lad like themselves could manage it? It'd make an absolutely perfect Lady Holder's stead now wouldn't it?
However as Emora grew older she became less and less content to simply sit on mild mannered animals and be her fathers assistant. She took up apprenticeship at a small beastcrafthall in Ruatha and worked part time under her father. Stretching out she began to work on gentling the horses, learning to care for them, tend to them, breed them, and her true passion, race them. Her light build and years of riding experience proved to make her a formidable jockey and matched with one of her father's best racing horses she's brought home the prize to Ruatha more the once. Much to Keroon's ire. Graduating to Journeyman Emora often makes her marks working alongside her father and her small beastcraft hall breeding and training runners. However of late she's made quite the good little business for herself representing Ruatha and Fort Weyr in the Gather day runner races or bigger events and often does trick riding for extra coin at smaller gathers or to show off her Hold's racing stock. It was at one such large gather race at Fort Hold that a brown dragon lazing in the sun beside his rider watching the races searched her. She won not just the prize that race, but a strong recommendation that she try her hand at standing as a candidate and perhaps take to the skies as a dragonrider should she impress. Not wanting to be completely put out of action during her candidacy and rob Fort Hold of one of their better trick riders and jockeys she tends to take up chores herding the herdbeasts or anything else that lets her race and ride on her runner that was sent to her from home. A number of Keroon men have begun to hope she does impress if only to put her out of the races. More then a few disgruntled members of Igen Weyr are less then pleased that their own runnerman are being beaten by a slip of a girl on a half wild beast and Emora has suffered her share of 'misfortune' be it a cut riding strap, a missing runnershoe, or a slight in the race registration though these have yet to scare the young woman off. In their minds better she be delegated to some flighty green dragon to be flown by a blue as is a ladies place then out racing against real men.
