These are the rules for the Versus Debate Guild.
Be sure to read them and make sure you understand them before posting.
1. When making a topic, make sure it is a versus thread. If you want to make an off - topic thread, that's fine, just make sure you put the letters "OT" in the title.
2. Do not make too many off - topic threads. This is a guild for versus debating, after all!
3. You can choose whether to include a poll in your versus thread or not. It's optional.
4. When posting to say who you think would win, be sure to give a logical reason behind your arguments. Explain HOW the character would win, and be sure to take into account the other fighter's abilities. WARNING: IF YOU CONTINUALLY BREAK THIS RULE, YOU WILL BE BANNED!
5. You don't have to be nice to each other, but you do have to be civil. Do not flame others or being excessively insulting. Breaking this rule too often will result in a ban.
6. Moderators may make official rulings on versus threads to decide who wins. This is for special cases like if one person is losing an argument but absolutely refuses to give up.
7. If you have lost an argument, there is no shame. It's better to concede your points than continue on and make yourself look stubborn and desperate.
8. Offensive threads or threads in bad taste are not allowed. This may include threads about heated political or religious issues, or racist or slander threads. Breaking this rule will get you banned.
9. Have fun!

New rule: Bloodlust
If a thread originator declares that bloodlust is on for the match, then both characters will try their utmost to kill or destroy their opponent, regardless of the characters' personality or other reasons they wouldn't normally kill. Additionally, thread originators can specify bloodlust for only one or several characters in a match, not all of them.

New rule: Objective in - universe explanations over subjective out - of - universe explanations.
In a versus debate, the only valid arguments allowed are "in - universe" arguments. "Out - of - universe" arguments are not valid evidence.
Examples of in - universe arguments: "Naruto defeated Mizuki", "The Hulk can punch through energy." These arguments reference things that exist and happen within the fictional universe being analzyed.
Examples of out - of - universe explanations: "The writer said Superman is stronger than Captain Marvel, so he is!", "The special effects were done badly". These kinds of arguments take into account things outside of the fictional universe (writers, special effects, etc.).
The reason the former is to always be preferred over the latter is that the former is objective while the latter is subjective, and in order for an argument to be winnable, you must analyze things objectively. In - universe arguments are objective because they consider only what is presented to us, what we know for sure. Out - of - universe explanations are subjective because they invoke things that cannot be proven and are not necessarily supported by the in - universe evidence. Even if an out - of - universe explanation seems to mesh well with the in - universe evidence, it still relies on things that cannot be proven and have no bearing on what we actually see in the fictional medium.
In conclusion: In - universe explanations are the only valid evidence for use in debates, out - of - universe explanations do not count.

New rule: "Author's intent"
"Author's intent" only counts in a debate if you have a direct quote or statement from the author saying something.
Otherwise, it doesn't count, because you're just guessing at what the author's intent might be.
