Latitare had left his partner on the border of the Pridelands. It was a safe area, from what he'd heard, and he had few qualms about them being apart for a day or so. Not to mention that he felt Yareha had been doing fairly good when it came to following Facio's advice about how he dealt with others, particularly lionesses. So it was time to trust the white lion to deal with others maturely even when the eagle wasn't there to keep an eye out. This left him time to begin a little side quest. He'd felt so bad for Kilua, especially when she'd first come into his view and her eyes had lit up so much at the sight of him, hoping he'd be her avian partner come at last. She was such a kind lioness and needed a bird who was equally kind, he thought. So Latitare had decided to try and find one for her.

Kenna was mostly on a quest to just be...away from Halili for a bit. She had always felt like a mother to the lion, ever since she was a little cub. Kenna had to make sure that the silly lioness ate, drank, and slept in safe places. Just...lots of work.
The parrot was nesting at the top of a tree, enjoying the peace and quiet that this large flat savanna offered. There were areas that the pride's lions couldn't even get too, and it became a favourite place for the birds to hang out when they needed their own breaks as well. Clear by the fact there were bits of different coloured feathers here and there clinging to to trees.

Yellow eyes fell on a small grey parrot sitting quietly in a tree top. She looked calm and kind, fairly perfect from what the eagle could tell. His sharp eyes spotted the many different colored feathers lying around and realized that this was probably the best place to begin his quest, given the fact that it seemed to be THE avian hangout in the area.
But first...the parrot.
Lattiare landed softly nearby, close enough to talk, not close enough to threaten. He knew that, being one of the largest birds around, he often seemed intimidating to others and had no desire to make Kilua's potential partner uncomfortable.
"Hello there...come here often?" he asked once he'd settled his feathers.

Kenna didn't seem that started that another bird had come by, though she had been enjoying that peace and quiet for the short moment it lasted. "Hello," she chirped, though she wasn't as friendly as she probably could have been. Old habits, laziness, whatever.
She turned her head to really look at this visitor when he said that line. "Please don't start our conversation off that way, I've been out of the egg for far too long, eagle." Seriously, really? Well, perhaps there were other African Grey parrots around, but that was a poor pick up line. And if he wasn't trying to pick a 'chick' up, well....that poor unfortunate soul with his choice of words!

He had to laugh at that. He supposed that, on reflection, it had been a pretty stupidt hing to say. A bad pick-up line, instead of his true intentions. Oh well.
"Sorry about that, it's just that, well, I don't. Come here often, that is," the eagle added hastily. "In fact, I've never been here before in my life. Name's Latitare," he offered, as friendly as he could be. Perhaps if he dialed things back a little, he could get back on her good side. She didn't seem that pleased to see him.

Kenna nodded. "You don't look familiar." His feather colours were something that she had never seen before, so he couldn't have family around here either. Just a bird passing by? It happened often enough that Kenna didn't think too much about it.
"Kenna," she said with a nod. "You know we're just on the outskirts of a pride, right?" She wondered if he knew that, and that was why he was here? Birds that were lonely, but still wanted more than just feather companionship always seemed to pop up their heads around here.

The eagle nodded. "The Pridelands, I believe they're called?" he replied, a questioning note in his voice. She, Kenna, definitely seemed to be from the area, in which case she would be an expert to his visitor.
"My partner's there right now," he went on, before cocking his head to one side. "I don't suppose you have one? A partner, that is?" It was somewhat useless to try and find a partner for Kilua if this bird already had a lion counterpart. So he had to ask.

Kenna chirrped an agreement. "Yes. I was here... a long time ago. Figured I'd just take a break from everything and come back here, cause it was always so quiet."
She fluffed herself up for a moment, thinking about a younger Halili. "Yes. Since she was a cub...she's lucky I'm probably going to outlive her!" the parrot exclaimed with a snap of her beak. "The silly thing couldn't find herself out of a hole if she tripped into one without me. I bet yours is the same. Four-leggers, they're not very smart."

He had to laugh at the description of her partner, even as his hope sank. Ah well. He'd keep trying In the meantime, he had charming Kenna here before him and the rest of the day to himself.
"They really aren't," he agreed. "My partner has more girl troubles than anyone else of any species I've ever met. It's fairly ridiculous, and probably a good thing that none of the lionesses know each other." Latitare stretched his wings and changed position slightly.
"Even so, I think we're lucky, to have partners."

Kenna shook her head. Well, that didn't paint a very appealing picture of this Latitare's partner, but then, Kenna's Halili had a 'fling' and ended up with a partially broken heart. Fulfilled enough with her babies around her, but it still bothered Kenna that the silly thing just couldn't keep it together enough to get a mate.
"Sometimes, I wonder," she said before pulling out a wing to preen a feather that bothered her. "Though, I guess it is worth it once the day is over. Halili just drives me crazy enough that I take little 'vacations' while she's busy with other things." She looked over at the eagle, wondering what else he'd have to add about silly four leggers.

"Heh, I'm giving my partner a chance to prove that he can make it without me for a day or two," Latitare told her. "His record in the past hasn't been that great, but he seems to have been learning from his mistakes."
Of course, one of the biggest problems had been the fact that Yareha had not even realized what the mistakes were to begin with. The eagle shook his head at the parrot.
"'Seems to' being the operative phrase. Me, I'll believe it when I see it."

"Well, he'll still be in once piece, I assure you. Well, unless he crosses the wrong lady." Latitare could take that how he wanted to, whether it was the lady herself or the male friend to said lady. Still, clearly the eagle had some faith in his friend.
"Halili is just a little slow minded and too sweet for her own good. I guess I balance her out a bit." Kenna laughed. "A bit hard edged." She wouldn't apologize for it anyway. It had kept her and Halili alive for so long, she wasn't going to change for anything.
"Don't give up on your partner too soon."

Latitare nodded. Kenna certainly seemed to know what she was talking about - he bet that she'd been with Halili even longer than he'd been with Yareha...in any respect. But that was only to be expected. She said Halili had been a cub, and Yareha had been an adult walking problem by the time the eagle had been assigned to him.
"I already had the chance to give up on Yareha, and I chose to stay with him. So now I'm stuck...though I think that's a good thing. The idiot probably still needs me. Even if he doesn't trip over his tongue when talking to a lioness, he still needs my help to scout around as we travel," the eagle explained.
And a few other things, but there was no need to mentino those here and now.

Kenna's neck arched a bit when she heard that. "You did, hm? Interesting...I would feel too much guilt if I tried to leave Halili, but I'm the closest thing she's had to a mother, so I suppose our situations are a bit different. Still...very interesting that you stuck around him. Would you care to share this story? I'm very curious, with the bits you've been willing to share."
She didn't have plans to go anywhere soon, and a story was always a good thing to share.

Latitare considered the request. He supposed he'd opened himself up to it, by even mentioning the fact that he had deliberately chosen to remain with Yareha. The question was, how much to tell? Especially since he knew there were things he didn't know, times when the white lion had managed to slip away from him...
"Well, just remember that a lot of it isn't my story to tell, and so there's several things I'll have to leave out," he cautioned the parrot.
"It started, for me, about a year ago..."
