A ROMANTIC SLEIGH RIDE

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

Imagine your OTP on a romantic sleigh ride through freshly fallen snow! A majestic creature pulls them through the shimmering white drifts as a sly bunch of mistletoe bounces over their heads. The jaunty little driver winks at them, and explains that kissing under such a sprig is an important holiday tradition. He then takes a small sip of peppermint schnapps and silently wishes he could still feel love. A single tear drips down his apple red cheek as he whispers a name quietly into crisp, wintry air.

The OOC

NOW KISS.

Why he was here, Mengyao had no earthly clue.

It was not as if he cared much for the silly traditions that came around this time of year, nor the fact that it was as cold as ice outside. The notion that snow was supposed to be romantic was idealized and ridiculous; snow was wet, cold, and unpleasant.

Especially when it got down the front of your shirt or between the cuff of your sleeve and your hands.

Dressed simply (for once; he was not about to let his precious Conquest robes get soaked), in a set of black pants, a black shirt, and a dark blue coat, Mengyao eyed the sleigh ride with a bit of skepticism. He wasn't sure what the fascination was with such a thing, but maybe spending a little time with Lifen would be good.

He sighed.

"Come, come," he said, taking her by the arm. "It's a bit silly, but seeing as though we have a bit of extra free time at the current moment...why not."

It was actually a very well received breath of fresh air, being sort of swept away by the taller nobleman, with promises of some kind of slaying ride.

With the return of the clansmen, she was returned to . . four of her five sisters, and on top of her usual daily chores (artisan chores, winter gardening, getting the dirt on whatever was happening with her little birds. . . ) she was in dire needs of a small break.

Dressed down nicely in a little simple skirt and an Fur lined coat that seemed to keep away the cool weather that nipped lightly on her cheeks, flushing them a soft red under the porcelain white that her skin had taken since the fall of their home.

"I am sure whatever they have in mind will be nice, do not fret so much." She spoke very softly to him, allowing him to take her arm. Lightly swinging it around his elbow, she figuring wherever he was going, it wouldn't hurt to follow him around for a bit.

"It is nice to just have some free time to spend around someone I enjoy." She quipped contently at him.

Since the returning of their family members, Mengyao had hardly had time to actually comprehend what had happened, let alone accept that his parents had been brought back. To his dismay, there had been no sign of his sister - yet - but he had not lost hope yet.

That, combined with the black thorn bracelet that now encircled his right wrist, and the voices that whispered at the corners of his thoughts, and Mengyao felt as though his head might explode. Perhaps escaping here to the sleigh rides with Lifen would give him a chance to relax, to take a breather and to simply...have a moment alone with someone he cared about deeply.

"I don't fret," said Mengyao airily, as he stepped towards the nearest sleigh, the reindeer tossing its head and giving him a somewhat suspicious look. Mengyao took Lifen's arm and helped her up into the sleigh before climbing in after her, settling himself back against the seat.

For a few moments after they had set off, he was uncharacteristically silent, fingers absently brushing over the bracelet beneath his sleeve.

"I'm afraid I'm not all that enjoyable lately," he said finally, tilting his head back to stare aimlessly up at the sky above their heads.

"Fine, then you stare pensively in to nothing." She snipped playfully at him, awarding the noble a little semi-innocent smile before allowing herself to be escorted on to the sleigh, feeling that this mode of transportation was rather elegant, and befitting of the Mengyao - he seemed as eloquant as the detailed sleigh.

The movements at his wrists while they had started to ride was not missed, red and gold never missing a beat, hidden behind dark eyelashes. He had started to absently worry the thorn bracelet, which made the woman fret that he would harm himself, or wound the skin that was under the trinket, but it was truly outside of her realm to request him to stop - he would not always be next to her as he had become busied with his parents, and she with her family.

Hearing his next statement, she turned her face up to look at him, pursing her lips a little and sitting back against the booth that they were supplied with in the ride.

"It is understandable, Mengyao. A lot has happened recently, I do not blame you."She admitted openly, lightly placing a hand on his shoulder, before raising her eyebrows lightly, in emphasis. "Do not hesitate to say anything, though. I do worry for you."

He gave her a Look, but sighed, still scratching at the thorn bracelet. It was digging into his skin, but it was not painful. In fact, it felt as though it belonged there, as though it had always belonged there.

"I always make you worry," said Mengyao, turning his head to look at her. He was studiously ignoring the little creature gazing balefully at them, holding some sort of fuzzy green plant out towards them. "I am sorry for that."

He sighed, then reached out a little hesitantly, his fingertips brushing against Lifen's cheek tenderly.

"You are the only thing that keeps me sane in this world, after all."

(( entering from snowball fight ))

He wouldn't deny he had been pretty confident that she would agree to join him in his coat, but that knowledge didn't keep West's grin from widening when she did just that. He let Levi position his arms any way she pleased, wrapping his free hand around her when she was done. Tails entwined, he led her off of the battleground at a stroll. Where to go next? Eyeing a very strange-looking house in the distance, West veered away from it. Maaaybe some other time. No, right now he was looking for a way to keep her right where she was.

"How 'bout that?" he asked, pointing at a wall-eyed beast that looked an awful lot like a very large reigndeer. He'd seen more of their kind in Christmas Town, soon after he'd arrived at Amityville for the first time, but this one was standing still and not attacking anyone. He looked closer. Perhaps it wasn't attacking because it was tied to a sleigh. "Maybe it goes back t'school." West sincerely doubted it, especially when the elf in the driver's seat started nattering on about plants and kissing. He squinted at the mistletoe, certain he had seen berries like that very recently, but he soon wrote off the feeling of familiarity as some sort of funny reaction to this imported hunk of Christmas.

"If not, least it looks warm?" And there would be more excuses to touch her.

[entering from snowball fight]

The weird looking house couldn't have been a clothing shop. That was about all Levi could deduce about it; that and it had a strange look in its eye window. The need to change out of her cold and damp attire was only rivaled by her absolute joy to stay where she was, snuggly fit in West's coat with him still in it. Kicking up some of the light white fluff from the ground just because she felt an unmerited glee in doing so, Levi followed West's lead (this time) toward a critter. It looked kinda familiar, in all honesty, as if she'd seen it way back some time ago. This moment of deja vu crackled away when West offered her a question. Squeezing at his side, she nodded with approval after some thought. Sitting in a wagon together would mean they'd still be this close. She wouldn't have to detach and, if anything, it would simply validate their closer than normal proximity if there happened to be any onlookers if the wagon did make its way over to the school. Could work just fine fer what we need. Needed or wanted.

Would git'us there faster, I reckon. Wetter than'a slime intha'rain n' twice as jittery. Reminds me'a tha'time Arel dun froze tha'whole hallway 'round tha'office. Nearly had'a icy demoness in ma'hands. Lizzy was cold-blooded and unable to generate her own heat, so Levi began to think that perhaps she was getting a bit of a taste of that now in her current situation.

The driver's weepy tear caught her attention once he'd gone through explaining the Chrismastival custom involving the berries that hung above the seating of the carriage. Levi's white ears picked up on a name spoken by the tiny critter, but couldn't make out exactly what it was. Guess he's missing some folk. Looking at West, she shrugged, placing one foot on the initial step, hoisting herself up while trying to give slack to the coat so West wasn't being strangled as she climbed.

Phew! There we'go. Ya'comfy? Her tail wound to one side, allowing West's to slide down enough so the end of her tail was still able to wrap around it comfortably. Wriggling this way and that, she waited for the wagon to move before allowing herself to settle her weight back onto West carefree. They were in motion. Nobody would see her resting her head on his shoulder... Aye West? What'cha think 'bout... traditions?

Once again he waited for her to situate herself before getting comfortable, tensing a fraction as she made him her pillow. The driver didn't turn, not even when Levi spoke, and soon West was back to feeling relaxed, or at least as relaxed as he could be.

"Yep," he replied. "You? Warmer at least, right? Like I said." West pulled his coat tighter around them, worming his other arm behind her back. Although he'd had no idea they would be having such a bizarre winter when he'd purchased it, it seemed the fuzzy garment had been a fine investment, even if it had cost more seeds than even he would usually spend.

The boil looked out over the snowy landscape as they slid along some predetermined path. This sleigh was moving more slowly than he would have normally liked, but today that was all right. "Traditions? Like pathling on Spookday?" Or... Missle Toe? Was that what their strange guide had called it? Weird. West looked up, contemplating the sprig of oval leaves and white berries. He swallowed. "Could be persuaded t'see 'bout some others though," he said, grinning as he looked back at the ghoul. "What d'you think of 'em?"
PostPosted: Sun Jan 06, 2013 12:40 pm

His like I said had been noted, internally making Levi shake her head but not stop from smiling.

West's family really must've liked their pathling; that in itself could have been a part of wrath demon customs as far as Levi could tell. If she'd ever needed to bring a gift for the family, the tatzel knew what to track down at least. Uh, sure. Yea, that's a sort'a tradition, I guess. She gave a short cackle, smiling at the demon boil when he'd said he was open to trying alternate traditions. Somehow it was a warming thought. West having a fur-lined coat alone brought such a comfort to her. It stood to reason that his taking part in more features and functions of her kin would... well, she wouldn't mind seeing it. Perhaps in trial of this, Levi thought, she could use the glove obtained from her favorite resident valkyrie sooner rather than later. Once again though, West's voice hitting a questioning tone jolted her out of her daze.

Hmm?! Her ears stood straight in attention momentarily, flicking against West's neck, before rubbing her cheek against his shoulder in comfort again. I think traditions're important fer folk. Even if some'a them boils were fightin', they 'least sat'round n' took part ta'work so youngins n' tha'older folks could enjoy. Sure, they'd git'a good whoopin' if they didn't, but was somethin' ta'be proud by tha'end a'tha day, ya know? Sometimes in school too. I didn't- Levi wasn't sure if she wanted to go so in depth. The fact that this thought had stopped her speaking showed the ghoul was reluctant to talk about it, but wanted to say something all the same. It was a questioning of her trusting a boil whom, during her memories of these events, was a reason for her feeling uncomfortable. West was still the same strong and outwardly cocky boil, but now he was her outwardly cocky boil. Clearing her throat, Levi went on. When it came ta'dancin' back home, I liked watchin' but never did. When I came 'ere, any'ol critter just took ta'dancin' boil 're ghoul ...'re gnome. Gym. spandex. vacuums. Sometimes they danced too. She'd sourly remember that imagery for the rest of her life, she was sure. Was ready ta'do 'bout anythin' but that n' there I was at ma'first ceremonial prom dancin'way. Levi took in a deep breath, exhaling in such a way so her breath would stream out in a gust of visible steam.

'm glad I did. Traditions like that 're kinda... an adventure too. Levi glanced upward toward's West's face from her resting spot, looking for his reaction. Was he understanding what she meant?

Something brushed his neck, causing him to sit up a bit straighter as she spoke. The demon didn't catch a chunk of her words after that, not until he had figured out that what had brushed him had been her ear, and when he tuned back in, he didn't immediately understand what she was talking about. Boils, youngin's, whoopin's, older... tatzels maybe? Was she speaking of home?

Levi hesitated, and in the short silence that followed West couldn't help but think of his family. His neighborhood hadn't been a community really. No one rallied around and helped each other, and none of his friends were allowed to come over unless their parents were his parents' friends. Most of the time it had been just the three of them, surrounded by the creatures who served them. He hadn't had any traditions like she'd had, just birthdays and holidays like everyone else. He hadn't been responsible for upholding anything before he had gotten away from home. West wanted to know more about it all, but she'd already moved on and he could think of nothing concrete to ask anyway. What she spoke of now was familiar. It was history they shared. He chuckled. "They do that," he said. "Proms're fer dancin." West leaned his head back in their cushioned seat. "An' you wiped th' gym with 'em." He was proud in hindsight, but he could clearly remember the rage he had felt toward her at the time. It wasn't much different than love. Both were strong emotions, and either of them could be twisted into the other if you knew just where to push.

He felt her eyes on him again and he nodded. "Sometimes. When y'won't get hurt for doin' 'em wrong." He hadn't wanted to dance at prom, but it wasn't because he was afraid of messing up or looking stupid. West was afraid of screwing up tatzel tradition. He stared ahead, eyes slightly unfocused, as he rubbed his thumb against her hip.

Maybe, but unless was tha'custom of tha'ccasion, don't think it was likely ta'happen... Partially through her rebuttal, Levi swore she'd heard something around the lines of West complimenting the way she danced. Kekeke. The red of her cheeks wasn't just because she was freezing her tail off this time. Well now, if'I didn't know better, West, I'd say ya'll just admitt'd ta'likin' whatcha'saw back then. So yew were watchin' close were ya? She was now practically whispering at his ear again,

The jingling of their driver's reigns sharply brought back into attention the fact that even though they were mostly alone, they weren't completely alone for certain things. If she was going to practice their custom bestowed by this curious plant above them, Levi was going to do it when there wasn't someone so obviously eavesdropping. Correcting her position so that her head rested back on the wrath demon, the tatzel ghoul continued on in her usual voice.

Well 'm sure ya'know yew ain't all that bad yerself. Winnin' things. The white haired ghoul snugged at West's side had been specifically recalling his winning the dance competition held at their first prom, but her words could have had another interpretation Levi herself hadn't quite realized she'd allowed for. Perhaps it was his rubbing her side or her ears rubbing against his warm neck and collar that caused her eyes to close, passively listening to and saying whatever was coming to her.

It was here that she took note of the clop clopping of hoofed feet slowing little by little. The sleigh was coming to a stop, but she was too warm to care just then. With some small sense of decency forcing her to recognize the potential discourtesy she was showing to the stranger, Levi's eyes would eventually open to confirm her observation. The sleigh had stopped.

The laugh he let out was more of a bark, and West shifted in his seat to counter his outburst, as well as smooth the goosebumps from his arms and the back of his neck. "Watchin' close enough t'know you made me wanna beat you at somethin'. Used t'hate that feelin'." Never before or since had he experienced such an incredibly intense need to compete with anyone. He still felt it today, especially, he realized, when she did things like pull away right after whispering in his ear. He longed to turn every shudder he had to suppress on her, to coax her into making those noises she made, to...

Jackdammit.

The thing was, he knew now, after a lot of internal debate on his part, that this wasn't a competition for her, not like it had always been for Duerre. Levi wasn't trying to win some game she had created with ever-changing rules that he could only guess at.

West sighed. These thoughts were getting him nowhere. They never did. He closed his eyes as well, leaning ever so slightly back against her and forcing his breathing to even out. "Now that was a surprise," he said softly, the hint of a smile returning to his lips. "I only got out there t'dance 'cause it woulda been weirder not to." He doubted anyone but her even remembered he'd walked away with a prize at all.

They continued on their mysterious ride, West's eyes opening long before Levi's did. He spent the last peaceful minutes of the journey staring at the back of the driver's tiny head, wondering what sorts of atrocities he had committed to get saddled with this job. When the sleigh stopped the elf turned back to them, a single tear still trailing down his rosy cheek. The grin that bloomed across his face was on a par with the spookiest Halloween had to offer.

"This is the closest my run gets to that school. Amityville, was it?" He paused, beady little eyes darting back and forth between the snuggly couple and his mistletoe. "Did you two have fun? Did you kiss?"
