Caring for an infant dragon took a lot more work than Cai would ever have suspected. Feeding, oiling, bathing, just watching them to make sure they didn't hurt themselves, it was time consuming and exhausting! Her whole schedule, her routine that she'd become for the most part comfortable in was gone.
Of course she could never give up or resent Miath. Every fiber of her cried for that little crimson to be healthy and happy. That too though was something that Cai was having a hard time coming to terms with. She still hadn't really thought about how this will affect her life in the long run. There was always something that needed to be done and her long nights of waiting for her mind to shut down and allow her to sleep were now replaced by blackout naps between feedings or some other cry for attention from the small crimson dragon.
Even now, Cai's hair was in a messy bun, harried strands plastered to her face by lake water as she attempted to wash a squirming dragonet. "Hold still, I still need to get your underbelly." Her clothes, A pair of drawstring pants entirely too large and her old worn tunic were ill suited for the job. Miath's sharp little claws had already started fraying the fabric of the donated pants. Her own pair, tailored and bought only a few months ago, were soaking in a tub of dye. She'd not been able to get the bloodstains out and now her only hope of salvaging them was to dye the rest of the fabric dark enough to match or conceal it. It was not going well so far.
Miath gave a happy burble. ~ It is sensitive!~ She squirmed away from the soft bristle brush, swatting at it with a claw.
"Miath!" Cai scolded, stroking her dragons head when the crimson placed it in her lap. "Stand up, let me see it then." She lifted Miath onto her hind legs, supporting her front claws on her shoulders as she got a look at the dark hide of Miath's stomach. "You're chaffing. Were you dragging yourself on the stone again?"
Miath nuzzled Cai's face since she was in reach. ~ Maybe, I do not remember. ~ She backed up and plopped back into the water, dipping her face in and splashing with her wings to rinse herself off.
"Tell me when you itch next time. I don't need you rubbing holes in your hide." Cai stood herself and waded back to the sandy shore. "Miath go dry off. I'll get some oil from the storage and be right back." She hated leaving the crimson alone but Cai didn't want to waste time taking the slow pace Miath would require not to tire herself out. The storage buildings weren't far from where they were bathing anyways. She could see them from where she stood just on the other side of the Harpers complex. It was broad daylight and there were plenty of people around.
Miath didn't bother to go far from the water before she flopped and rolled into the sand, getting her hide nice and coated with the scratchy stuff before she settled down quietly.

With most of the chaos of the hatching over and the feast not due to happen till that evening the majority of the senoir weyrlings had been left to their own devices. Hekate had been content to curl up against a tree near their weyr and read beside her dragon only pausing in her scanning of the text to glance up when her silver rose to his feet. I wish to go get a drink Mine. I shall return shortly. Devith informed his rider as he gave his hide a little shake unfurling his wings for a moment before tucking them back against his side.
"All right, but remember to stay out of the water. We need to keep your shoulder dry for at least a little while Devith." Hekate reminded her dragon with a small smile reaching up to stroke the soft hide of his nose as her silver companion let out a snort of annoyance.
How long must I be so idle Mine? It is unbecoming. Devith complained drawing a chuckle from his rider as he straightened up and began to make his way towards the lake with a slight limp.
"Not too much longer. Just be patient~" Hekate called after him with a broad grin. Devith be patient? Ha! That would be the day! Not that she didn't adore her lifemate despite it. While the silver would never admit it he was quite enjoying bossing the flits around in his injured state and getting them to bring him this or fetch him that as he lounged beside their weyr. Shaking her head Hekate went back to her reading with a bemused smile.
While Devith enjoyed the admiring looks some of the other dragons shot him in light of his injuries the annoyance caused by his shoulder often kept the silver on edge as he padded down towards the lake shore. So wrapped up in his own thoughts was he that were it not for the slight shifting of the sand he just might have stepped on a certain little crimson.
Shifting sand? Sand didn't move? Or have eyes for that matter and curious Devith bent his head blowing a little wuff of air down at the very sand covered little dragon. You are not sand now are you little one? The silver asked with a rather amused tone pleased to have found a distraction from his thoughts as he settled down on his rump wings half furled as he eyed the little hatchling.

Miath flared her wings and puffed up in surprise. There was suddenly a very large dragon head in her face. She backed up a few paces to get a better look at him and cocked her head at a curious angle, body still poised and dainty wings flared. ~ I am not sand. I'm Miath! ~ She bubbled, shaking herself to be rid of the sand that had dried her hide. ~ Being sand wouldn't be bad if you get to lay in the sun all day. ~
~Miath! Who are you talking to?~ Cai paused in her scavenging of the storage shelves.
~ Large dragon. He thought I was sand. ~
~ Stay there. I'm on my way. ~ Cai grabbed the supplies she'd been looking for a and a couple extra she'd decided she needed before leaving the building.

Devith watch in amusement as the little dragon puffed herself up and backed away a few steps trying to make herself look bigger in her surprise. Mimicking Miath Devith cocked his head in turn his eyes whirling a rich blue and green as he watched the little crimson pose. Of course you are not sand. You are much to pretty to be sand little Miath. Though it would be pleasant to to lay on the beach all day I do believe it could get quite boring. Devith rumbled gently back at the tiny little crimson. Was he once so small? His had pictures drawn of him when he was little so he must have been, but even he was certain he had not been so small as this one.
I am Devith little Miath who is most certainly not sand. Would you care to join me for a drink? The water looks nice and cool this morning. The silver asked flaring his wings somewhat to show off his great shining hide and to aid him in getting back on his feet with his injured shoulder. Shaking off the bit of sand that clung to him not unlike the little crimson had done before he began to prowl down to the lake shore to dipping his head to sniff at the water and take a long drink.
Which clutch were you hatched from pretty little Miath? Devith inquired hoping secretly that the resemblance to her and his friend was not merely his imagination and the the hatchling was indeed one of Calanoth's.

Miath pondered what he had said... it would be comfortable... but maybe she would get bored at some point. ~ There is plenty to watch and see by the lake though. I do not think I would get bored too quickly. ~ No she liked the sun and maybe with dragons walking over her all day long she wouldn't itch as bad as she did.
The large silver was amusing and his hide glittered like the water did in the sun. She made a small trilling noise and trotted back across the wet sand to where she'd previously been with Hers. She ducked beneath Devith, finding plenty of room there. Dipping her own muzzle into the clear water she took a couple long deep drinks.
~ Clutch?~ She thought about it... there had been more than one clutch? Miath couldn't remember. There were a lot of hatchlings and they were all her siblings weren't they? ~ Mine? What clutch did I come from?~
~Suunath's~ Cai answered absently as she moved slower back to the lake than she had leaving it. Her arms now loaded with a jar of oil, a couple clothes, a large nail file, another jar of laquer, as well as an application brush. Miath's claws were beginning to catch on fabrics and Cai felt a little prevention was better than Miath splitting a claw on accident. ~Why?~ That was another thing she needed to ask about. Miath, only a couple days old, already had a terribly spotty memory.
~ Devith wants to know. ~
Devith... she knew that name. Vaguely but she knew she knew it. She just couldn't place it. Was her own memory going? More importantly, why did a dragon want to know which clutch she came from? Cai frowned and despite the added danger to her bundle of items, picked up her pace. She didn't like being out of sight of her lifemate.
Miath tilted her head up and back to look at Devith above her. ~ Mine says Suunath's. Was there another?~

Thinking on what his rider said he letting out an amused wuff and shook his head. Then you have more patience then myself little one He joked tilting his head to peer under himself at the little crimson beneath him. Why he could practically scoop her up in one paw and carry her off she was so little. It was a tempting idea too. His rider did adore hatchlings then again Devith honestly couldn't think of anyone who didn't, but he knew his was particularly fond of them. He was certain she would love to see the little itty bitty crimson. Perhaps he could convince her to come back to his weyr with him and meet his rider?
Sunnaths?! Why yes there was more then one, but you are one of Calanoth's hatchlings! I thought you looked a bit like your clutch father. Devith crooned in delight happy to see that Calanoth's clutch had produced at least one atypical even if it was not a silver.
You should see my rider. She would love to meet you. She loves hatchlings! The silver exclaimed loving the very idea and Miath was such a cute little hatchling. It was too bad she had a rider. He would have liked to have just kept her all to himself so His could fuss over them both.
