User ImageHe was growing impatient.

Quetzalcoatl sighed, his ears pinning back. He had been... patient, thus far. The stallion wasn't used to this though. He wasn't used to caring at all. He breathed out a sigh as he tried to calm himself down. The small creature shifted, his eyes flickering toward the side. He had been there when Belinda had given birth; yes, he had never left her side. Though he was scared, and unsure what it was he was doing, he remained calm in her eyes. It was only to his grandfather, Cuauhcoatl, and his mother, Uhra, that he truly confided in. Though he trusted a majority of his family, he couldn't quite get his head on straight. He needed to figure out what was the next step. His mother claimed patience; she had told him the story of how it had taken what felt like ages for his own basket to break free, and when it did happen, it was the happiest moment of her life.

Now, it was his turn. Quetzalcoatl sighed, pausing in his pacing to stare toward Belinda and the baskets. He glanced over them slowly, before walking forward, letting his velvety noise lightly breath in the smell of the baskets. He hoped that by being here so many times, that he would be able to be recognized as their father without confusion on the little creatures part. Shaking his head lightly, he lifted is eyes toward his mate. They had decided, after much debate and talking, to stay together. There was no point in breaking a family; and in all honesty, he was feeling as if he loved her. Tilting his head in thought, he shifted, before slowly moving forward, and let his nose gently run against her neck in a comforting manner. "Don't worry, Belinda... I'm sure it won't be too much longer..." He mumbled, before letting his eyes flicker back toward the baskets.

Shaking his head with a sigh, he started his pacing again. What would he do if they didn't emerge? If they didn't come. What would he do if they... Shaking his head, he growled lowly. No. That wouldn't happen. He could promise that. Quetzalcoatl knew that his babies would be strong and fit. He would ensure that they were well taken care of that nothing would happen to them. He walked back to his mate, lipping lightly at her hair, before letting his eyes wander around. He had told his mother to come visit today, and he was certain if that was the case, more would come. They were expecting these little ones to come soon. Due o that, they had many visitors, usually without announcement. But Quetzalcoatl had started to not mind this; so long as they didn't overwhelm them too much.

Belinda hadn't been able to bring herself to leave their children for more than a few minutes at a time since she and Quetzalcoatl had carefully placed their fragile little forms in the baskets to continue development. It was more than a relief to have shed all the extra weight and to not have all those spindly legs kicking and keeping her awake at night, but she couldn't help but worry about them more once they were outside the protection of her body. No wonder she had felt so uncomfortably and ungainly near the end. Who could have guessed she had been carrying three new lives all those months... She smiled a little and shook her head, at least she hadn't experienced that terrible postpartum melancholy this time around, how could she? What with the budding romance and with Quetzaloatl leaving her feeling dizzy with happiness and her wonder at how welcoming and kind his herd had been towards her. She was overwhelmed with all the changes in her life, and every one for the good.

She nodded at her mate's reassurances, "I know... It just feels like its been so long, I want to meet them!" she asserted, closing her eyes and enjoying his little displays of affection. She crept foreword and leaned her head against the nearest basket, trying to detect any movement or noise coming from inside. "I suppose I should cherish the quiet and alone time while we still have it, but the anticipation is killing me!" she laughed softly and stepped back until she was next to Quetz, resting her head against his shoulder and inhaling his calming scent. "Have you thought any more about names?"

Uhra was going just as mad as her son. She had always wanted, waited, to have grandchildren. And now it was coming true. She was going to be a grandmother, and be able to spoil the little things rotten. She wiggled her nose lightly, smiling as she plucked a few berries from a bush that Ikinya had said grew fantastic berries. She smiled as she filled a small basket, before letting the wicker move into her mouth. She lifted her eyes toward the sun. Any day now... she was certain. She could feel it in her aging bones. They almost ached with each passing day. Breathing out softly, her nostrils flaring lightly, she moved lightly through the herdlands.

She loved living here. It was protected, and everyone here was amazing. She had grown to love everyone, and felt as protective of them as she did her own children. Ikinya was like a mother to her, and Cuauhcoatl had taught her so much since she got here. She flicked her ears, letting her eyes linger for a few moments, before pausing as she heard someone call her. Lowering the basket, she peered curiously toward the small rabbit that hopped forward. Khol wiggled his nose, before smiling up at her. "I think it's almost time, Uhra!" He said excitedly, before flicking his ears up. Shifting easily, he hopped up onto her back, and smiled toward her. Uhra smiled back, her eyes kind, before she nodded her head. "I agree! I can't wait to see them! Quetzalcoatl is even more fidgety than I am! She said with a soft giggle, before moving to pick the basket up again, and once more started to walk.

The mare didn't stop any more. She just walked, and walked. Nodding occasionally to a passing horse, she couldn't help but smile. She loved being around everyone in the herd. They were fantastic friends and family. She paused for a moment, before looking toward the small area that her son and his beloved had decided to reside in. She had already begun to feel as if Belinda was part of her family, which was all the better. She was beginning to really enjoy the other mares company. Flicking her ears, she moved forward, before pausing near by and set the basket down before her. "Good morning, you two. How are you both?" She asked. She smiled some, before stepping forward to let her nose brush lightly against the baskets soft wicker. They were so adorable, such a likely of the two parents. She smiled gently, before lifting her head lightly. "I brought the two of you berries... Goodness, they must be just ready to burst... They have to be." She said, nodding her head curtly.

Quetzalcoatl blinked, his eyes flickering quietly along the soft wicker of the baskets. He lowered his head, letting his nose lightly brush against them. One by one, he let himself nuzzle them. He wanted the little baskets to pop so badly, wanted to see them in their prime. But, he had to be patient. He was told by everyone that he had to be. And despite him wanting to just... open them right here and now, even though he was certain it wouldn't help, he couldn't. Quetz sighed, his ears pinning back, before he lifted his head up, eyes locked on his mate, his ears perking as well. "Hm? Names...?" He murmured, thinking about it for a few moments, before he tilted his head to the side. "I thought... that we could possibly name them after my grandfather, in a way. Mayan sort of names... perhaps?" He asked, watching her to try and gauge the reaction Belinda had.

Quetz was going to say something else, before he heard his mother. His ears perked curiously, and he tilted his head. The stallion watched his mother moving, before he sniffed the berries curiously. He lowered his head, nibbling at the berries curiously as his mother spoke. He lifted his head, watching the woman for a few moments, before he moved back over toward Belinda, nuzzling her gently, before sniffing at the wicker again, trying to nose them out of their baskets. But he knew it wouldn't work. He stepped away from them, to stand along side Belinda, ears perked up, eyes locked on his mother once more. "God I hope they're almost ready to come out... I'm getting tired of waiting." Quetzalcoatl stated firmly, frowning at the baskets for a few moments, before letting his eyes lock on his mate once more.

But, he couldn't stay upset. Every time he saw Belinda, now at least, he felt his heart pound harder, and he couldn't help but feel a warmth move through his chest. It made him actually smile. He shifted, before resting his head on Belinda's back, right behind her neck. He murmured something about being forced to wait, and hating it so much, before he lifted his head and paced quietly, staring down at the baskets as if he was a scolding parent. Though he was just staring at it with eyes filled with anticipation and anxiety. Quetzalcoatl was not a patient stallion. He generally liked everything to be done as soon as possible; rather than not have to wait. And not only did he have to wait for her to have the children. But now he had to wait for the small creatures to be ready to come out of the baskets and be ready to face the world.

He wanted to see his children...

He heard the now familiar voices again, small ears pricked up as the soft intonations penetrating the wicker walls to gently lift him from his slumber. He wriggled, the rough woven walls pressing against his shoulders and back with uncomfortable tightness and bulging with even that slightest of movements. The warm darkness of his home was no longer as snuggly and comfortable as it had once been, he shifted again, the little basket bucking and twitching as the foal inside tried to find a more comfortable position to drift off once more. The same thing he had been doing every time the sounds woke him over the last few weeks. Except he wasn't really sleepy anymore... In fact, this was the most alert he had ever felt. Light was filtering in through the cracks in the walls, he pressed his nose against one of them and wuffled softly, pressing all four tiny hooves against the ceiling in a vain attempt to expand his home to a more comfortable size. For the first time in ages he wondered where the others had gone. He remembered floating in absolute contentment, listening to the muffled thump of his mother's heart and the rush of blood in her veins as he cuddled with his siblings in the warmth of her body, then there was the separation, it had been startlingly bright and cold for a few minutes but he was soon tucked safely away again, only this time, he was alone. And yet, he still sensed the others nearby, were they still outside?

Uhra loved her son, and her son’s children, already. And his mate… She adored Belinda. She was adorable, and so sweet. Uhra had really opened her with welcomed arms when she had met the other mare. She was like family already, and they had barely known each other long. She enjoyed spending time with Belinda, even if it was just going out to talk about children while they grazed or went to go look around. Quetzalcoatl had gotten very lucky when he had found that mare, and Uhra was happy he did so. He had always been a very quiet, alone kind of stallion, and she loved that he no longer was. He had opened up, and it made the mare very happy.

She breathed out a soft sigh watching them. They were so anxious and excited, and it made her heart flutter in excitement as well. She smiled and leaned, nuzzling both of them once more, before she let her eyes linger on the baskets on the ground. They were so cute… So small. She loved them. When she tried to help with the full size Soquili’s children, it was hard. The baskets were large and it was hard for her to pick move them when she watched them. And it was always a challenge to ensure that they would be okay. Though everyone in the herd knew that Uhra was a great mother, and excellent care taker. She often talked to the baskets, and sung to them, or even tried to put nice smelling things around so that they would adjust to the different smells in the herdlands. She adored baskets far too much for her little heart, and did everything she could to ensure that they would be the cutest, most loved creatures around.

Khol, the small rabbit, shifted forward slowly on all four legs. He put his front two on one of the baskets, peering at it curiously, before he sniffed at the wicker. Letting out a noise of interest, he hopped back over toward Uhra, and tapped her leg quickly, pointing with his front leg. The mare blinked down at her companion, before looking back up toward the baskets. What was he saying? Curiosity rose in her body as she shifted forward slowly, and dipped her head down to sniff at the basket as well. When she did, she felt the shift in the wicker, and before she knew it, it was moving more than she thought. She backed up several paces, giving the basket room, before watching it with excited eyes. Were they really coming out now? She smiled, staring with anticipation. She was about to be a grandmother, and nothing else in the world could have made her this happy!

User ImageWhat was that noise? The small creature shifted a bit, letting out a whimpered noise as he tried to stretch his legs out. This was too confining. He didn’t like it at all. He let out a whimper and shifted again, trying to stretch out, trying to get his body to where it was no longer squished. His eyes opened slightly, and he could see the light shining through the home he had been in for the past several weeks. Another whimper shifted out of his mouth as he reared his head somewhat to try and get more room, to try and get himself comfortable. The movement did something else instead. His longer horn caught on the wicker that was his home, and within a few moments, there was a large hole in the side of the basket.

Suddenly, light flooded into his eyes. Letting out a cry of pain, he closed his eyes quickly, ducking his head down against his legs. His small wings shifted, and fluttered in panic as he tried to block out the bright light. He didn’t like this! He didn’t like it at all! Shifting, he tried to curl himself back into the ripped wicker, and wanted nothing more than to hide and never come out again. Sounds flooded his ears, way louder than he was used to since the walls were no longer blocking the noises. He could hear things moving and talking and he wanted to cry at them to be quiet, though he didn’t know how to speak yet.

After a few moments, he opened his eyes, and his body froze at the sight around him. There was a basket still lingering closed nearby. But to the left of him was another foal, seeming distressed by the sudden flood of senses. He shifted a bit, letting out a cry of displeasure. He glanced around, and his eyes locked on three larger figures. All smelled rather familiar, and sounded familiar, but he was distressed, and didn’t like them at the moment. He whimpered and shifted, letting out a cry of distress again, before he wiggled some and tried to back up, but instead stood as carefully as he could, and stumbled forward some, tail flicking before he stood stock still, eyes locked on the ground as he stared at it with curious eyes. What was this?

Why don’t you go say hi to your lovely parents? He froze. The foal shifted some, glancing around as he tried to figure out what it was that had made that noise. He glanced up toward the three creatures before him, staring for several moments, before he took a wobbly step forward, and then froze again, whining at the action. He didn’t like this at all!
