Super Sailor Virtus bounced his way through the park, playing on the equipment. It was abandoned at this hour, and he was not really playing, or so he told himself, but practicing. He was trying to get better at moving, at climbing and jumping and using his surroundings to his advantage.

What was better built for that then a jungle gym?

Sure, most people took to construction sites or the roof tops, but Virtus did not want to get in their way. he often found he crossed paths with others when he was patrolling in the streets, and he did not spend as much time in the park. Maybe it would be quieter here, and he wouldn't slow anyone else down with his efforts.

He knew he was sometimes a burden to others, and he did his very best not to be. This was just another step in that effort.

Watching people became much more interesting when one became involved in an interplanetary war. It provided new opportunities and vantage points. At the moment, that was all Serpentine was doing--moving from roof to roof and watching the people below. Yes, partially he was training, increasing his stamina and getting better at calculating the distance between jumps for more stable landings. But that allowed him the luxury of indulging his hobby as well... and he hadnever been the kind to shy away from any advantage offered in a situation.

He was near the park when he felt a twinge of Chaos energy. Wiping some sweat away from his brow with his sleeve, the lieutenant was momentarily tempted to ignore it. He did not for one reason: it reminded him of Remarque. While he had no desire to meet the puppeteer again any time soon... if there were more Senshi like him, then Serpentine wanted to know it. Any Senshi in his path was an enemy anyway, and he could not let the enemy go unheeded. With that thought, he leapt down from the building and made his way closer to the playground area, the source of the aura that had caught his attention.

Serpentine huffed when he saw the individual. A gray-clad Senshi playing around on child equipment... for some reason. He hardly seemed a challenge, but the lieutenant had thought that about opponents before. Better to gauge his reaction and then go in for a strike. From his position in the bushes, he threw his snake towards his soon-to-be-opponent. Even if this new Senshi was not afraid of snakes it would at least catch his attention and act as a distraction.

Quicksilver the Archangel

There were a few perks of being painfully optimistic and always look on the bright side of things. One of them was the willingness to do anything that was asked of him, or that he asked of himself, without fear of looking like an idiot or a fool. Which was why he was enjoying himself on the children's playset without sparing any thoughts to if he was seen and what they would think.

Another perk was the fact that he was surprisingly fearless. It was not that fear didn't exist for him. It did. He was scared of plenty of things, and he felt it just like many other people did. But he did not have any irrational fears, or paranoia's that others might. He had no ill feelings toward any creature on earth, not finding snakes or spiders or bugs gross or frightening.

This applied to many other kinds of situations, but right now this fact suddenly came into play as a snake bounced its way into his field of view.

His first thought was 'Oh, a snake!' followed quickly by, 'I didn't know they could jump!'

Fascinated by the jumping snake, Virtus climbed his way down from the playset, his foot getting caught and tripping him up a bit, before he moved to get closer to a potentially dangerous animal that he had not seen was harmless yet and had no good reason to be getting close to.

Serpentine regarded the Dark Moon Senshi with amusement, a smirk appearing on his face. No, this one was nowhere near as powerful--or capable--as Remarque, as far as he could see. Trippiing over his own feet, being drawn easly into what was (to him) an obvious distraction... perhaps his patience would finally pay off, and he would emerged a victor from this battle?

The lieutenant dashed out from the bushes now that his opponent was suitably distracted. Kicks had served him better than punches, so the soccer player turned to them now. He aimed directly for the Senshi's back, offering not even a warning challenge. He was not, however, being especially stealthy; the rustle of leaves, or his own energy signature, could easily betray him and give his enemy a heads up and a chance to dodge.

Virtus did not suspect that the snake and the Negaverse soldier now lunging for him were in any way related. Instead, it was just a lucky happenstance that both seemed to happen near enough to one another that the latter was able to take advantage of the former.

No, that thought didn't occur to him either. Because it was too far for him to assume that anyone would plot and wait and do anything villainous in any way.

Mostly because he could be an idiot sometimes, and his back was turned so he didn't actually see the Negaverser until a heavy foot slammed into his back and sent him sprawling, face first, into the ground.

For a moment he forgot which was way up, and feebly tried to stand on the side of a lamppost nearby before gravity restored itself and he could orient his body accordingly. He pushed himself up to his hands and knees, looking up in surprise despite all the hints he had that he was about to be attacked.

"H-hello," he stammered, pain cutting his word a bit.

Pathetic. More pathetic, in fact, then the lieutenant had expected. The kick connected solidly enough, sending the gray-clad Senshi into the ground where he belonged. He stayed there too, on his hands and knees, and Serpentine merely snorted at his greeting.

The Negaverse officer did not rest on his laurels. Senshi had proven difficult to keep down before... and he would not fail again. He drew back for another kick and recalled his toy snake to his hand. He may need it before the fight was done.

Virtus had to do something. Clearly there was some sort of miscommunication here and he needed to stop the fight from going any further. He realized in a moment of panic that he didn't have to fight back to hurt, he could just fight back enough to get the fight to stop.

He caught the second kick as best he could, though his hands ached from the effort, and took a moment to catch his breath before he pushed his feet under him, still holding Serpentine's foot, and shoved himself forward.

He was hoping to knock the Lieutenant off his feet and maybe get a moment to explain himself, before the fight was over and he, Virtus, was hurt or worse.

"It's okay! I'm not an enemy!" he yelled, while he was shoving.

Serpentine grunted whenever his opponent successfuly caught his foot, and the force of the stopped kick made him fall backwards onto the cold ground. The grip on his 'weapon' tightened, and a scowl covered his face.

This mewling little git had managed to floor him?! Bruised pride swelled within the lieutenant, and he began to lash about, trying to free his foot from the Senshi's grip. He finally spoke, but his voice was a snarl, "All Senshi are my enemy!"

He threw his newly reacquired snake towards his opponent's face, hoping for another distraction to aid him in getting free.

Virtus had no idea what he had just done. Probably because he did not think he was fighting: he was doing the opposite of fighting. He was trying to end the fight. Still, he was a Super Senshi and his strength was still natural to him, even if he didn't know how to use it properly.

Or, in this moment, didn't want to.

He let go of the foot as the other started to thrash and kick around wildly. Uh oh, that was not what he wanted to see.

"Don't worry, I'm not an enemy! I'm a Dark Mirror Senshi! I'm on the side of Chaos! I know you're confused but I don't want to hurt you or any other Negaverse soldier! I want to be friends!" He probably should have said allies, but he DID want to be friends with everyone, too, and the words were kind of synonymous in his head.

The rubber snake clearly missed its mark, but at least the lieutenant was free once again! He sprung back to his feet now that he was able, unconciously brushing snow and cold mud from his uniform. Serpentine knew that the battle was not lost, courtesy of his opponent's unwillingness to fight.

He clearly heard what Virtus was saying. Dark Mirror--like Remarque, then. Chaos? Yes, he knew that from the aura. But a Senshi was a Senshi--and Senshi were the enemy. He threw a fist towards Virtus along with two words spat out, "Friends? Never!"

Virtus yelped and took the hit, because he wasn't really sure what else to do. He didn't want to instigate the fight further by dodging and making the guy even more angry with him, but he didn't want to hurt the other either.

So he just sat there like a lump of a punching back and got himself socked in the face for it.

He fell over and hit the ground pretty hard, still dazed from how fast everything had happened and not quite sure how to react. Everything was happening far too quickly.

Getting smacked point blank in the face helped him figure out how to end the fight though, since he was basically blacked out, face down on the floor.

And I believe this is fin!

Serpentine smiled when his fist connected solidly, circling around his opponent in order to be certain that he was down. When the gray-clad Senshi did not rise, he took that as a sign that he was down for the count, as a boxer would say.

Now the gold clad lieutenant had all the time in the world to savor his victory, and he took the time to do so. He adjusted his hat to its proper position. He kept his eye on his motionless prize as he retrieved his rubber snake--manually this time. Any excuse to stay around just a little longer and commit his victory to memory. He made no move to kill him or to rough him up any further; it would have been wasted effort. Winning was enough. He had proven his point, and this Senshi, at least, had paid enough for now.

It was enough. Some sort of peace welled in him at last. His training and dedication were finally shining through, as he had always known they would. Every defeat had been a stepping stone to this moment. Serpentine chuckled lowly as he stalked away from the unconcious Dark Mirror Senshi. Victory was not sweet. It was the salt of sweat and blood, but it was his. And that was more than enough.
