Mwako'Tu had been the only one. The only one his mother had kept, to try and mould into the perfect warrior. However, this hadn't gone too well. His father had seen to that, he had aided his epiphany, rather unseemingly.

Whilst he had been a violent sort too, Mwako had never viewed it with the same intention as his mother. She wanted to hurt, and to belittle, for no reason. He had no idea where she was.

The beige lion loved his new home. His nerve-wracking encounter with his grandfather had been more pleasant than he anticipated. Mahiri was gentle, wise and incredibly welcoming. Although he was just as saddened to learn of Mbayas disappearance, there was nothing that could be done.

So now he sat in his new, safe home, stretched out on a baked rock, for once, alone, and content.

Except that he was not quite alone.

Sauntering quietly up beside him was a female all black and gold with a mischieveious smile of white, glinting teeth.

Alienor was new, having decided to do a home swap after her own pride had taken a downward spiral. Leaving behind a half deserted homeland might have been enough to get anyone down but Alie was not one to dwell on such things. She could always go back and visit and what was bad could always get better. Perhaps on her first visit things might have improved and she could leave with a lighter heart, knowing that her people were recovering. Alie also still suspected that her parents might join her here at some point, but whatever their decision was, they knew where she was. How to find her. And she would be there to greet them and welcome them if they chose to come by.

Still, those thoughts were far from mind at that moment and, in two bouncing strides she reached the rock where Mwako'Tu reclined and chirped in her merry voice: "Hello!" And, swinging around to face him she blinked up at him curiously from her place on the grass. "You have the most amazing eyes." She fluttered her eyelashes at him and then reared up, draping her forepaws across the rock. "What are you doing here all alone, hm?"

A voice snapped him out of his daydreaming and he jumped a mile in his skin.

He turned around to see her, a pretty little thing, quite young. All black and gold. However what came out of her mouth was what startled him. Mwako'Tu certainly wasn't used to compliments. His face began to redden and he jumped up onto all fours, digging his claws into the ground.

Something nice was often the calm before the storm. Others could be manipulative. He relaxed slightly, as he thought about his first encounters in these lands. The male was almost certain that this was not a place that would tolerate such wrong-doing. After all, that was why mother left, wasn't it?

"Hello, there. Uh, what do you want?" The two words seemed disjointed and they were not intended to be as harsh as they may have come across. He forced a smile. She certainly didn't look frightful, rather the opposite. Being new here, he had no idea of which faces were sincere, and those that weren't.

She was surprised at his reaction, only because the pridelanders she had met so far had not been so...so...jumpy? True, most had been members of her family, but with how safe she felt here it was hard to think of anyone being so...nervous?

Pushing off from the rock to put some distance between them, she offered him another smile, flicking the fur out of her eyes as she did so. "Sorry. I didn't mean to startle you. I'm Alienor. And...new here. Just thought I'd drop by and say hello! Can never have too many friends, can you?" Her head tilted curiously. His eyes really were pretty, all bright and blue against the pale tan-gold of his pelt.

"So, what do you say, handsome? Do you want to show me around?" She, of course, had no idea that he was new. As far as she was concerned she was the newest joiner! She had yet to realise the extent of the lions that lived in this tremendous kingdom.

He titled his own head as she did so. He didn't intend to be quite so jumpy or perhaps as snappy as he had been. Mwako'Tu lowered his head gently.

"Perhaps, the definition of friend here is more positive than I've been used to." He chuckled. He had never had any friends. Not one, other than his mother, and well, that had turned out to be a "friendship" filled with violence and manipulation.

Lack of contact with others had made him somewhat unaware of how to socialize properly.

"Sorry, Alienor, My name is Mwako'Tu. Mwako, if you like." He nodded. "I would show you around, but I've only been here a couple of days myself, and I'm not entirely sure where everything is, it's so... big."

"You've not had very good friends? Well, we'll have to change that! I'll be a new friend and I promise, I won't be a bad one." Or she hoped, anyway. Sometimes it was hard to tell whether you were annoying someone or not, especially if they were good at disguising their true feelings. Alie could sometimes find it hard to tell, being that she was so open with her emotions. Why anyone would try to hide how they felt was a strange and foreign thing to her.

"That's a good name." She replied with a smile. Cute, too. She liked how it sounded. Soft and friendly, perhaps a little like him.

"Well, since we're both new to the Pridelands, how about getting lost with me, instead?" She laughed. "I'm sure we'll turn up somewhere eventually, or bump into someone who can point us in the right direction. Pride Rock is at the heart of the territory, right? So if we keep that in sight we shouldn't go too far wrong."

Or the rock might not be. She'd sort of just assumed.

This was a promise he was not used to, and he nearly flinched. It was not out of fear, but the wriggling sensation creeping across his fur he found to be... comfort? If Mwako wasn't covered in soft beige fur, he would have a very obvious blush.

He also had the juvenile feeling of talking to a pretty lady, he didn't know what that was like, either. Getting lost with Alienor sure seemed like a good idea, but he supposed he'd still have to keep his wits about him. "Sure."

"I've been over by Pride Rock." He nodded, "My grandfather showed me around a little, but we didn't go far, he's really quite old." An adventure sounded good all the same, and he had to get used to being safe.

Mbaya would never come back here, would she?

"Excellent!" She declared with a small hop of joy. She loved making new friends, especially handsome ones. This was definitely going to brighten the day! "Well, maybe we can make our way to the watering hole and go from there? Maybe we'll even run into someone who can point us in a good direction." She backed away to give him room to join her and turned on a heel to glance in the right direction.

But no sooner had she looked away, she was blinking back at him again. "And you have family here, too? This place is so huge. Sometimes it feels like every lion in Africa must have ties to this pride." It made her feel connected. Less alone.

"I have some half siblings here myself - through my father. He's still at my birth pride, though, with mother and the rest of my siblings who haven't already left for the rogue lands."

His fears began to fade suddenly. Mwako'Tu smiled. "The watering hole sounds like a great idea."

In all his travelling, he hadn't really stopped for something to eat or drink properly. His mind had been racing, trying to run too far ahead of himself. He couldn't really focus too much on one thing. But now he had met this sweet female, she was a friendly distraction from all that was going on in his head.

"Family. I have some, but I don't know all of them." He admitted.

He raised a paw in a random direction, hoping that they would find the right way to their destination. "Shall we go?"

"A big family, hm? That's nice. Never know who you might bump into. Well, I'd like to hear about them someday, but in the meantime, I'd like to learn more about you." She gave him a playful shove on the shoulder and skipped ahead, smiling back at him. He was ridiculously adorable.

"Of course!" She quickened her step as if they had suddenly engaged in some sort of childish race, throwing back her head to laugh aloud. For the first time in a while she felt like she had made the right decision. Her birth pride would always bring fond memories, but she had family here, too. And after today, she'd have a friend to add alongside that.

A friend who she was shamefully flirt with all the while, of course.
