What had happened to her back there? Even days later, Xiu couldn't shake the horror that she had felt when she snapped out of her stupor to find her fingers wound tightly around one of the hunters' necks. She never wanted to hurt anyone--not like that--and yet there she had been...
The ghoul gave a sharp shake of her head in an attempt to rid herself of the image. She had chosen to, for some time, isolate herself from the other students while she tried to wrap her mind around what had happened. After all, it was bad enough that she had attacked a hunter, but what if it had been another student? She wasn't so sure how this necklace thing worked, but she didn't want to risk it. It would be one thing if she was with a number of friends who could fight her off, but what if she was with one or two? And someone who wasn't quite as experienced at fighting as some of the others?
Nope, she couldn't risk it.
And so, it was another solitary morning for Xiu. Although her eyes were distant, her mind clearly focused elsewhere, she flipped the pancakes on the stove with ease, automatically moving to the fridge to grab some fresh, chilled fruit to top her breakfast off with. In her distraction, she had made more than she intended to--far more than she could eat in a single breakfast--but...ah well. Perhaps she could save some for tomorrow or something.

Sophie closed the door to her room behind her, pulling her usual bag onto her shoulder and taking the first of many steps towards the demon dormitories. She almost didn't want to go - had stood at the door for what seemed like hours, mulling it all over in her mind. She was worried that.. that all the nightmares she'd had since their return from Christmas would be a reality. Of course, what she dreamed about the most was a reality. It actually happened and sometimes, when she thought about it, she could still see the baku's tiny hands wrapped around the Hunter's throat as if it was the easiest thing in the world. She'd made it look so easy; had even seemed to enjoy it.
Sophie hadn't seen Xiu since then. Partly because she had been busy with other school activities and partly because she was afraid. But some time had passed since then and the craziness of the whole escapade had calmed down, along with Sophie's drama. Her burns had healed nicely and she was on her way to being able to pretend it never happened. She stopped outside Xiu's door and took a deep breath before pushing the door open. The delicious smell of Xiu's cooking flooded her senses instantly and she let out a sigh of relief. That was normal Xiu. She couldn't see crazy murderous Xiu baking delicious sweets decorated with pretty frosting.
Peeking her head in, she greeted Xiu with a half smile. "Morning," she called as she stepped into the dorm, nudging the door closed behind her. Her eyes flashed to the necklace that hung around the baku's neck and quickly shifted off it again. It made her feel uneasy. "What're you baking today?"Kaiyumi THIS ISN'T LATE. wat r u tlkin bout.

Distance, that was what she needed. She needed to distance herself from her friends for a while longer until she was...relatively certain that she wouldn't suddenly snap again. Even then, she couldn't guarantee for sure that she wouldn't end up attacking someone else again the future, but just to be safe, she decided that she should stay away from the others for a little while. Especially the first year studen--
She suddenly jumped in shock at the unexpected voice, the fork in her hand sliding free and clattering on the ground. She didn't even bother bending down to retrieve it, simply staring at the familiar ghoul who stood in her doorway with wide eyes. "S-sophie," She squeaked, half in greeting and half in surprise, "What are you...? Why are you...?"
Now this was a little ironic. It was one thing to try to avoid her friends when they were carrying on with their own personal schedules, but it was another thing trying to avoid them when they came and sought her out. Unable to turn the other ghoul away, Xiu finally moved to pick up the fallen fork before murmuring a quiet, "Oh, I uh...I just made some pancakes, is all." A beat, and then she slowly added a hesitant, "Would you like some? I made plenty of extra..."LOLTERNATIVE idk man I think it was just on time, k OuO

The clattering of the fork sent a jolt through Sophie and she nearly jumped out of her skin. She still didn't know if Xiu was back to normal and a tiny part of her - that she hated - had expected the baku to flip out and reenact Sophie's nightmares. At her questions, the zombie could give no answers. None that wouldn't make things worse, anyway. None that wouldn't involve lying; which would probably make her feel worse about the whole situation. Of course, it wasn't like Sophie was the greatest at hiding her intentions so it was likely that she'd get caught out eventually. It would probably be best to avoid it until ten. Give her time to think about what she was going to say. Right?
The mention of food snapped Sophie back to reality and she might have drowned in the drool the smell of the pancakes was causing if she wasn't already dead. What could she say? She had a sweet tooth. Or 10. Or 32. She grabbed herself a plate and a fork without hesitation and served herself a couple of pancakes; a mountain of whipped cream and fruit included. The first bite was savoured and accompanied with an mmm and a little whipped cream on the tip of her nose that went unnoticed. "These are great, Xiu," she said between mouthfuls. "Got any plans for today?"

She...had been there, right? The realization hit her like a train, and she felt her stomach knot uncomfortably as she hesitantly glanced up at the ghoul's face, her gaze flickering to and away from her as she tried to guess what she was thinking. Had she actually seen her attack on Jerry? Had it...scared her? The baku's expression had become nervous, clutching her arms as she tried to figure out what to say--
--o-oh. The look on her face washed away, replaced by surprise as the zombie ghoul took up her offer and grabbed some pancakes. For a moment, Xiu simply stood there in stunned silence...and then she laughed, her tense shoulders relaxing as her lips curved into a smile. "I'm glad you like them! Though, ah, you have a little whipped cream..." With a little giggle, the baku tapped her own nose, indicating the location of the stray dot of cream.
"As for plans...I don't know," She wrinkled her nose, smile fading slightly, "I thought maybe I'd...stay inside and read or study or...something to that extent?"

Sophie's expression became very child like as if she didn't understand what the problem was. She reached up and wiped the cream off her nose, licking it off her finger. She gave a sheepish look before continuing devouring those delicious pancakes. She could feel the tension between them; nothing hostile but it was enough to make Sophie uncomfortable. Neither of them knew what to say about.. well, everything and there was quite a bit that needed to be said. Sophie placed her cutlery down for the time being, looking up at Xiu.
"That's not very fun," she teased. "Maybe we can hang out. You can teach me how to cook." She rubbed the back of her neck. "I can't promise I won't set something on fire, though." Leaning down, she pulled her sketch book out of her bag. "I have some new designs to show you, too. Maybe you can let me design something for you."
It was the perfect plan and perhaps Sophie should have gone about this in a different way but this was the only way she knew how. Distract both of them from the problem and then suddenly bring it up. It was fool proof, right? Mentally, she sighed and slapped herself for not being more forward and blunt. She just wanted everything to be okay; even if it took a while for her to get there.

She had seen it happen, Xiu was sure of that...and yet she was acting as if nothing had happened. Was she simply trying to avoid the topic for now as to reduce the potential awkwardness? In either case, the baku was grateful for the distraction, even though she knew that the topic couldn't be ignored forever. At some point, either she or Sophie would bring it up today and--hopefully--get it out of the way.
Hopefully. Even Xiu wasn't sure what had happened to her that day.
"Oh--are you sure? I mean, I'd be more than happy to teach you how to cook or to see your designs!" Despite herself, the ghoul couldn't help but give a little wag of her tail. It definitely sounded like a lot more fun than the day of isolated musing that she had originally planned for herself. So long as she managed to control herself and prevent that sudden bloodlust from overcoming her again...
"Mm, what did you want to do first?"LOLTERNATIVE ...omg Lolly what aldjfakjhdf LMAO <3
