User Image“What’s wrong Kip?” Lina asked as she nuzzled up to her lion companion. He was had been awfully quiet lately, the young genet wasn’t sure what was wrong with him. “You feeling okay?” Maybe he was sick? Lions got sick…right?

User Image“Huh?” The blind male asked, being brought out of his trance by the words of his guide. “Oh…I’m fine.”

“You’re a terrible liar, you know that?”

Kip hmphed, laying his head on his paw. He could hear Katika near him, teaching their young ones. It pained him to know that he was useless right now. All he wanted to do---was prove to his growing children that their father could do something, not just lay around being useless as ever.

Lina seemed to notice just why Kipofu was so distracted. Although his eyes were sightless, he still gazed in the direction of the adult lioness with the four cubs and two avian pals. “Come on,” Lina nudged, wanting the male to get up, get active, and to stop moping! “Show them you don’t need sight to be amazing!”

“No thanks, Lina…I’m okay here,” both the lion and genet sighed. One out of helplessness, the other out of sadness.

User ImageTa’la’la was with her mother and brothers, practicing hunting skills. Already growing up fast, she was showing grace a growing lioness should have. She would prove to the pride to be an excellent huntress when she was older.

Unfortunantly, U’no’le was having quite the bit of trouble with his practice. No matter how many times his mother showed him, he was a lousy pouncer. Luckily though, he had Enzi. If it weren’t for the bird, he didn’t know if he’d be able to survive on his own! Call him spoiled, but Un’o’le was rather glad when Kalani’s son had chosen him as a bond, rather than his other siblings. He was the only of the four to have a bond, and he was just like his mother with an avian! How awesome was that.User Image

Ta’la bright blue eyes gazed over to her father, her looked lonely as ever watching them. She turned her attention to her mother, a questioning look on her face. “Mom? Why doesn’t daddy join us?” Ta’la had noticed the glaze and paleness that covered his own eyes, along with the light pink scar that roamed across the lids. She was still young to understand that he wasn’t like them, that he was void of sight.

U’no’le looked at his mother at Ta’la’s question. It did seem strange that their father never participated in any of the lessons that their mother taught. Surely he had some input on the matter, did he not?

User ImageOh…she wasn’t really expecting that question yet. She should have known it was coming though, after all…the pair could not keep it a secret from the kids forever. Her blue eyes gazed over to her mate, knowing just as well he could probably hear them. Though he didn’t have the sight, his hearing was phenomenal!

“Well…you see…” How should she start? Kati was at a lost. Shouldn’t Kip be telling her the story? Already she knew that her mate felt a bit left out by not being able to help with a lot of the important lessons in life…so it would only be fair if he would be the one to explain just why. Right…?

“Maybe your father should tell you…?” The mother said quietly, gazing towards the two children.

“I don’t think he wants to talk, Kati,” Kalani chirped from her perched position on the lionesses back. Her beady gaze was also on the sulking lion.

Kati nodded sullenly, agreeing with her bond. “Well…”

“It’s okay mom,” U’no’le started. “I’m sure da’ will tell use when he is ready?” The male juvenile sensed the uncomfortable feels that his mother was feeling. He didn’t want Ta’la’la to push the subject matter. With his light green gaze, he gave a look to his sister. His facial expression just read what he thought, ‘don’t push it.’

Unfortunately, Ta’la’la was one to not drop the subject matter. It was something she received well from her mother.

“Can you not tell us?” The youngster asked.

“Mind your parents’ wishes child.” Kalani hissed, ruffling her feathers a bit.

“It’s alright Kala. Your father is…well different from everyone.” Katika began, trying to find the right words to say.

“Different how?” Ta’la’la interrupted.

“Child, your mother is explaining….”

“Right Ta’la’la, stop interrupting!” U’no’le piped up, not pushing the matter, but willing to listen to if it was to be lay out.

The children were still young. Katika was sure they didn’t observe the difference of the eyes between themselves and their father. That light film that fell over his eyes from a young age, or even the light pink scar that was beginning to match the white fur it marred itself upon. The way Kipofu presented himself made it difficult for one to tell he couldn’t actually see (Lina had helped him greatly with this), until one actually took the time to focus on his appearance, and his body language.

“You know how you two see me?’ The mother began, turning her gaze once again towards her mate.

The two children nodded in unison.

“Your father cannot see what we do. That’s why he has Linaeve always by him.” Kati finished, watching the reaction of the two youngsters.

“So…” U’no’le began. “Lina is like…his eyes? Kinda like Aunt Kala is your eyes from high in the sky?” the male questioned.

“Exactly.” His mother confirmed.

“So…why doesn’t daddy want to hunt with us? If Lina helps him, he should have no problem!” The little lioness logic was quite flawed, but Kati did not point it out to her daughter. They would understand in the future.

Katika smile sadly. “I’m sure one day you kids will understand just why your father doesn’t hunt.” The older lioness spoke no more, and the look Kalani was giving the two children was enough to cause the two youngsters to drop the subject. When they were older, they would understand…hopefully.

Ta’la’la, getting her mother’s hint and her avian’s evil eye, nodded, bouncing away from one parent and to the other.

“Where are you going? Talala!” U’no’le called out, tilting his head.

“Daddy!” whether that was a response to her brother, or the call out to her sulking father, one didn’t know.

In the instant he heard her voice, Kipofu had put a smile on his face, his genet bond giving him the unseeing smirk. It was amazing how much his children were able to perk him up just so.

“Ta’la’la.” Kipofu said quietly, hearing the scuffling of paws hit the dirt as his daughter neared him. Even if his little girl hadn’t called out, and Lina not speaking a word, he just knew she was coming. He had caught all the sounds of the steps his children made. His daughter, had smaller, almost dainty steps even at a run. She almost pranced, giving a normal three beat lope a half less beat. U’no was like a typical boy, clumsy with his steps, beating them harshly on the ground. His other two boys managed to have the same kind of steps as Uno, just with slightly different pressures added to them.

“What are you doing here? You should still be practicing with your mother.” A brief thought crossed his mind. What if there was an accident? No, it couldn’t be. Lina would surely have told him.

“I know but…I wanted to be near you!” Ta’la’la exclaimed, nuzzling against her father, her growing paws making sure not to stop on Lina.

“I runaway from a lesson and I get scolded. Talala does it she gets praise from father. I don’t get it, Enzi.” Unole muttered, watching his sister nuzzle their father. The smaller avian shrugged his shoulders.

“It must be a girl thing,” he chirped quietly, rustling in feathers atop of Uno’s head. “Think you’ll just have to get use to it,” he whispered, clicking his beak together. “Although,” the blue bird thought, “you usually don’t run towards your parent when you runaway…” he stated slightly, causing Uno to swat him off his head.

“Oh bug off.” But Unole just smirked. It was true.

Katika smiled at her daughter, and then turned to her son who was bickering with his bond. It was amazing their family together. Even though the disability limited what he could do, somehow not being able to do what a normal family could do had managed to gain even more love from their children.

“I think our lesson is done for today.” She called out to her sons. U’no’le especially whooped in joy.

“Can we go play then mom?” Her youngest son asked, both Enzi and he giving the yellow lioness the puppy dog eyes.

“I guess…” she sighed as Kalani laughed.

Once again, another whoop of joy hit as U’no’le and Enzi bounded away from the brothers, staying close, but playing their hearts desire.

“Aww, how sweet!” Linaeve cooed, stepping away from the lion pair with awe. Her gaze turned towards Katika’s form approaching, Kalani perched on her shoulder. “Good kid Ta’la’la is.” She said, although she was sure her mother knew it.

The once sulking lion was now emitting a purr that was as loud as a motor.

Kati nodded, She sure is she thought to herself. All her kids were great, but her only daughter seemed to have a more special bond with their father then all the children.

Even though Kipofu felt alone, he knew he would never be alone for long. He had too much of a loving family; whether it was Linaeve, his loving mate Katika or any one of his children. Times may be difficult, but there would not be an obstacle he could not overcome with the love that radiated from his family.
