Vodnitvar did little more than growl as he made his trek back to the pride. So annoyed with his current predicament that he could care less about covering his tracks. Something he would beat himself up for later. But for now he was fuming mad, this strange female had sought him out from his old pride. Claiming that his job was to protect her? Who the hell did she think she was? Yes, he had saved her as a cub, but had he known it would impact his future .... he wanted to say he wouldn't have done it, but not even he was so cruel. Of course her life was worth saving, but it was not worth the story he would have to tell Fireheart. The story of why there was a strange, younger female following him around like a lost puppy. Goo goo eyes and all. "I don't see why this is entirely necessary, you're leaving me behind. Why don't you let me catch up?" Frite's voice held a tone of worry to it, but she still managed to slip in her sweet, alluring tone. Tripping over branches, she managed to cut her paw on a rather sharp root. She winced past the pain though, positive that Vodnitvar would tend to it once he realized she was hurt.
"I-I'm sorry if its a bad time, i've been searching for months! Please don't me upset, I came as soon as I found you!" Pleading with the angry lion, she stumbled again and again, unsure of why he wasn't as overjoyed as she was.
Rearing his head back, he noticed the female's cut, but also noted that it was nothing too serious. He would request a healer once they returned to the pride, but until then she would have to deal with it. Besides, she'd been through far worse.
Listening to her pleads, the male could think of no words to say to Frite. He was disgusted with her presence, disgusted that he was still expected to protect those who had abandoned him. Furt built up inside of him but he pushed it down, knowing Fireheart would have his hide if he brought in a new member without being hospitable. She was the new Queen afterall, she couldn't have her mate going around acting like an a** to everyone he encountered. Especially with his plans for the future fresh in his mind.
Glancing up from behind him, Vodinitvar could see the pride coming up before him. Noting a male nearby, he nodded in his direction quickly requesting that he send for the new queen immediately.
He knew he shouldn't pass orders like that, it wasn't his position. But he also knew, Fireheart would want to see this for herself, and not through word of mouth.

A week or so into her new title and already Fireheart was picking up on the finer points of being Queen. More and more lions came to her for advice and her brain was both growing tired and becoming stronger. She was used to thinking of battle plans or hunting tricks, but now it was more along the lines of helping sick cubs and merchants plan their next sales. If she turned fighting on its head and twisted just a bit, everything sort of fell into place. She was getting her footing in this new role and, dare she admit it, she was kind of enjoying it. It was no surprise when one of the guards came up to her and told her that Vodnitvar was looking for her. Her mate would soon become a diplomat and he was already fairly well-known in the pride, if only for the fact that he came from such a different upbringing. She made her way to the edge of their lands where she spotted the large, blue lion and...oh, a lioness she had never seen before. Curious, she trotted down the slight incline before reducing her pace to a walk once more. "Greetings," she called out, not wanting to be too informal around a new pride member. She knew Vodnitvar wouldn't have brought her here if she didn't want to join. Fireheart spared any sort of emotional greeting for her mate other than a little bob of her head. There was a time and place for emotions to get the better of them, and that was when they were alone. When they were out among the pride in matters such as this, it was better to keep a cool, collected head. "Who is this, Straw Dog?" she asked, arching a brow and nodding her head towards the younger lioness. She couldn't be much older than the newcomer, perhaps just a few month.

Frite's eyes lit up like the fourth of July at Vodnitvar's mention of the Queen. "Y-YOU KNOW THE QUEEN?!" Inching ever nearer to the male's side, she couldn't help but be impressed with what a strong male she had been lucky enough to snag as her own. Not only was he capable of protecting her, but he had ROYAL connections. As to what kind of royalty, she had no clue, but the very idea was enough to leave her star struck.
Vodnitvar merely rolled his eyes in exhaustion at Frite's over reaction to his words. OF COURSE HE KNEW THE QUEEN - SHE WAS HIS MATE! But then she hadn't been informed of that, so he couldn't chew her head off over it. He listened to Frite's mindless ramblings for what seemed like hours before the familiar scent caught his nose. He wanted to smile, to allow his tail a slight wag but he was well accustomed with public displays with royalty. Everyone is to treat the Queen as such when out in public, there was no reason for him to not follow the same procedure.
As Fireheart bowed her head at Vodnitvar, he bent into a small bow then slowly pulled himself back up. He knew she would think it unnecessary, but he wanted her to know the amount of deep respect he had for her.
"This - My Queen - is Frite. She is an outside rogue, I think she has intentions of joining the pri-"
Completely bored with how slow Vodnitvar was making his introduction, Frite quickly jumped in and gently patted the male out of the way. "Don't be so serious Vodnitvar! And why is she calling you Straw Dog?" Narrowing her eyes at the female, she gave her a short, sharp bow before protectively standing over Vodnitvar once again.
"My name is Frite, and this is my mate Vodnitvar. We've been seperated for a long time but I finally found him!" With a smile wider than ever, and the most innocent eyes ever Frite looked back at the Queen inquisitively.
"Hey Vodnitvar? Why'd you call her anyway?"

Fireheart was rather startled when the young lioness pushed Vodnitvar aside. She had been gentle about it, but still. Who did that to the one guiding them to a future pride? It certainly didn't give her a first good impression. She had to remember, though, that not all lions and lionesses were as formal as she hoped they would be, especially members of this pride. It wasn't until the lioness - Frite, apparently - started to speak that Fireheart thought anything was out of the ordinary. How did she know his real name? Surely he had had a life outside of the pride, that much was a given, but his body language didn't read that of finding an old friend. Her eyes narrowed in suspicion and, when Frite continued, it took everything she had not to attack. As it was, the fur along her spine stood on end and her claws dug into the ground. Her mate? Who was she to claim such a thing? Her eyes darted instantly to Vodnitvar, demanding answers instantly if she wanted to keep Frite unharmed. He had never mentioned a previous mate before, nor being separated from anyone other than his pride as a whole, so for the time being she gave him the benefit of the doubt. Depawsit Oh snap, it's a good thing Voddy taught her how to be patient XD He's got some 'splainin' to do!

As the words escaped the female's mouth, it took everything he had not to fall over from sheer surprise. Instead his claws extended, and he sheathed and unsheathed them into the dirt. The sheer look of dumbfound on his face wasn't enough to prove to Fireheart that he was clueless about the entire thing. Because he wasn't clueless. He had just spoken to her about this, moments before he brought her into the pride. He had tried to explain that what she thought was true, wasn't true. But well, it was obvious she hadn't believed him.
The look on his face as he caught Fireheart's eyes was unmistakable. She was furious, and of course under normal circumstances she would have every right to be. But there was nothing normal about this encounter.
Sighing, he signaled for his mate to follow with a small nudge of his head. Placing a paw on Frite's and authoritively saying, Stay."
Walking just out of earshot he turned to his mate once more with a near pleading look in his eyes. "Don't believe a word she says, she's gone mad." Rolling his eyes, Vodnitvar began pacing in circles, his fur on edge.
"She's a cub - well she was a cub. From my old pride, you have actually heard of her before... Voddy knew that was little for her female to go, but Frite had already dug him a hole, and he prepared to dig himself out of it. Frite offered a small nod to her protector as he spoke to strictly for her to stay. The words sent chills down her spine, and she felt all giddy at the very idea of him touching her paw. But there was something about the way he was acting with the Queen. What royal subject just nodded for the Queen to follow? Something was fishy here, that much was for sure, but exactly what, she didn't quite know.
Narrowing her eyes once more, she glared at the Queen, this time burning white hot coals into her backside. If this Queen was trying to move in on her protector, she was willing to fight for it.

Fireheart kept her eyes on Frite for a moment before following Vodnitvar a few paces away. She tried to ignore the stare she could feel burning into her back, but it was very difficult to do. Who had the gall to stare at any queen like that? The thought alone made her want to turn around and lash out, giving her new scars on her face to match the ones...on her paws... "Wait," she said quietly, the pieces falling into place. From his pride, just a cub, scars that matched Vodnitvar's own in intensity and ferocity... "She's not the cub you rescued, is she?" she asked quietly. She felt a bit better at the confirmation that she was, indeed, mad. She loved Vodnitvar dearly, but if he had been lying to her this whole time she wasn't sure what she'd do. Not be very happy for starters. His story seemed to hold water, although she still wanted to put Frite in her place.

The tension in her shoulders seemed to melt away as Fireheart quickly put the pieces of the puzzle together. He knew there was a reason he loved her, this was one of them, she was EXTREMELY perceptive. with a sharp nod he took a quick glance back at Frite, there she was sitting and staring bullets into Fireheart's back. Eye rolls aside he faced his mate once more with an explanation.
"I found her while I was out this morning - or I guess she found me. Apparently she's been looking for me since she was old enough to hold her own. She thinks i'm destined to be with her, and protect her." At his last words, it was obvious he was having trouble speaking. The simple fact that someone from his old life still expected something from him ... it was ... disgusting.
"She wants to ... joint he pride. I tired telling her i'm not here for her but she wants none of it. Its like she's oblivious to rejection." taking deep breaths, he tried to calm himself down, but something quickly changed all of that. "HEY VODNITVAR - I GOT WORRIED SO I THOUGHT I'D COME CHECK ON YOU!"
With a wide smile, and an obnoxiously loud voice, it was as if she'd slipped out of the shadows or something!
Frite watched with innocent humor as Vodnitvar nearly jumped out of his skin. "Why are you jumping?! Its only me silly." Giggling she gently rubbed her chin against his very stiff mane. Being sure to evoke exactly the right statement to the Queen. 'He's mine, now go away.'
"So what are we talking about? IS IT ME? ARE YOU TRYING TO SURPRISE ME WITH SOMETHING?" Before she could finish her statement the lioness was beside herself with excitement. Bouncing on her paws, and giggling like a cub once again. SilverLutz No, Fireheart can't kill her. BAD FIREHEART - NO XD

Vodnitvar's obvious disgust and distress over the situation chased the last doubts from Fireheart's mind. He really didn't have any idea what was going out outside of what he had said, that much was for sure. Even when she was just training under him, she knew that he was a lion of his word and wouldn't lie about something like this. Especially now that they were unofficially mated, he was loyal to her as the day was long. She was about to comfort him a bit, assure him that she'd take care of it, when the grey lioness popped up out of nowhere and yelled in her ear. The sudden noise made her slightly disoriented and, when she glanced over, was not very happy to see Frite nuzzling Vodnitvar. Not very happy at all. "Yes, we were talking about you," she said in a cold tone of voice as Frite bounced up and down in place. "Vodnitvar was just...catching me up on your past. It seems you're a bit mistaken," she added, pacing closer towards the smaller female. It was times like these that she thanked her size: she didn't intimidate often, but when she did she made sure to use her larger than average height - for a female, at least - to her advantage. "Your old...friend...here is not. Your mate. He is mine, and if you do wish to join this pride, you are to keep at least three strides away from him until you come to your sense." There. The suggestion was made. Any further movements towards the blue lion and she'd have to use a bit more force. Depawsit Three strikes and you're out, Frite XD You've got one left!

The Queen's assurance that they were talking about her only made the female's heart flutter more! YAY! They were going to surprise her with something! But not with that she had expected. As the Queen barreled over her, it was apparent who was the more dominant of the two and the intimidation technique only forced the female to curl herself up and shiver. She would allow the female to appear she were fearful until Vodnitvar stepped in to save her, and he would do that.
Any ...
Minute ...
Now?
It was as if her entire world had crushed in around her. Vodnitvar had a mate? He'd moved on past her?
"B..but who's going to protect me ...." Breaking free of her happy go lucky tone, it was all too apparent that Frite now understood what was happening. "I...I thought if I found him, he would keep me safe. Just like when I was a cub ..." She was still shaking from head to toe, her body posture now poor and sagging. She looked up at the female with pleading eyes, unsure of what to say to her.
"I'm ... sorry. I thought - well it doesn't matter." Giving in to her desperation, the female lost control and allowed the tears to fall freely from her eyes.
Watching the scene unfold around him, Vodnitvar winced at his mate's words. She had turned into quite the female. Confident in her size, but weary to use it. It seemed she'd found a good balance between the two, though deep down he couldn't help but feel she was being a little harsh. He knew Frite was bound to endure some mental anguish from her struggle as a cub. Afterall, look how it had affected him. Though Fireheart might not be so knowledgeable about the true effects of war. He had told her many tales, but one can not truly understand, until they have stood in your shoes.
As the female began to cry Voddy's face formed into somethign of both disgust and fright. Ugh, emotions, no he couldn't stand when female's got emotional. When females got emotional many things could happen and he wasn't really prepared for any of them. Instead he simply did an about face, leaving Fireheart to clean up this part of the mess.
She was a girl afterall, though a tomboy, she was probably better equipped to deal with this part than he was.

Fireheart didn't back down from her stance as Frite cowered before her. She needed to understand who was in charge here. It wasn't until she started to cry that she began to feel a bit badly about her reaction but...come on! She'd been horribly disrespectful both to herself and Vodnitvar, continued to bother the blue lion when it was clear he didn't want the attention...if this was what it took to get her to snap out of her dream world, then she'd do it again a thousand times over. "He's left that pride and that part of his life behind him," she said sternly, but not unkindly. "And found a new home here. If you do wish to be protected you may join our pride, but only if you get those thoughts of Vodnitvar being your mate out of your head. I can promise you that we are safe from outside dangers and..." She paused, sizing up the younger female. "...and you'd probably fit right in with the other lions." Indeed, she had that happy-go-lucky personality and the slight touch of insanity that most of the lions here had. "Stop your tears, Frite. You're not in danger." Depawsit Yaaaaay helping! She was like a snake, a venomous snake that had you cornered. Every word out of her mouth was drenched in venom and stung at the sound. She knew vodnitvar had left them behind, and she couldn't blame him. It was part of the reason she had left. He had SAVED her, sacrificed himself in her place. It was a debt she could never repay, yet she wanted to be more in debt. She wanted his protection from everything this nasty world had to offer. She didn't have to love him for that to happen - but she would forever idolize him for what he was, her hero. Frite attempted a small nod through her sniffles as she listened to Fireheart's words. Vodnitvar belonged to this pride, so that meant she could be safe. As long as he were always around, nothing would dare come for her. Except in the dead of night as she slept, but she thought she could tolerate that. "I do wish to be protected, the world is far scarier than it seems to be within these borders." Frite nodded in appreciation to the Queen, dipping her head in a final respective bow. She would give up on Vodnitvar's love, truly it wasn't what she'd been after. "But can I stay near you two? Please, I just want the safety that he provides. I will never interfere in your lives so long as I am not welcome."Uncowering and taking a step closer to the female Frite offered her the most pleading eyes she could. "Please ... I need this, i've been searching for months." Respecting the Queen's wishes, the lioness wiped her tears away and offered a weak smile in response. Fireheart kept her expression hard as Frite got to her feet again. She didn't want the smaller lioness to think that she would just let this go. Granted, Frite couldn't have known that Fireheart and Vodnitvar were mates, but seeing her try to get close with her lion made her blood boil. The pleading was getting to be too much, and she held up a paw to silence her. "You may live wherever there is available den space. I cannot say if there are open ones near ours, but all the dens are located in the same area, so in the grand scheme of things you'll be close." Fireheart lowered her paw and fixed her with a stare. This one was gentler than any other she had given her, now that she was relaxing it was easier to do. She could see the terrified cub in Frite, the one being attacked by vicious claws and teeth, and she knew she'd find solace here, not just because of Vodnitvar. "One more thing. You need to listen to Vodnitvar, whether or not it's something you want to hear. He saved your life, you owe him that much at least." Depawsit Just a little tough love. She'll warm up to her eventually X3

Close dens. All near one another?
The thought sounded comforting but at the time a little puzzling. The Queen slept in the same denning area as everyone else? It was intriguing but also pretty new to the lioness. In her old pride, the royalty were separate from everyone, the cubs weren't even allowed to play together.
Thought he idea was perplexing, she chose not to dig into it, more focused on assuring herself that she would be safe. If staying in the dens meant she was safe, she wasn't going to turn it down, not this time. A simple nod gave Fireheart the acceptance she needed.
Just as the lioness was about to request one last detail, the Queen's statement caught her off guard. It was true, she did need to respect Vodnitvar, he was not only her elder, but something far more respectable.
"Yes your highness, I'm sorry for the trouble I have caused." Bowing once more, the lioness turned her attentions toward Voddy once more. She knew she shouldn't get close, as it seemed to really rustle up the Queen, instead she spoke softly from a distance.
"I just want you to know, I will be forever grateful for your sacrifice. I will do whatever you wish to make it up to you."
Realizing the attention was once more on him, the male turned. He was grateful to his mate for her comment though, it was a small gesture, but kind none the less.
Eyeing the female who now seemed more vulnerable than ever, the male offered her a crooked grin. "There is no need to repay that debt, it was never meant to be so." Vodnitvar shook his head as though he couldn't believe the lioness' bold statement. Did she really think him so shallow as to value her life?
"But if you so choose to try anyway, that is your right. You've rustled a bit too many feathers today Frite, how about we take you back to the dens. Perhaps getting a feel for the pride will perk you back up?"
Knowing the only two around were his mate and Frite, he took the opportunity to nuzzle Fireheart lovingly. "Would you care to escort us, or have you other matters to attend to?"

Fireheart eyed Frite before nodding just a bit, accepting her apology and her submission. She knew she wouldn't cause any more problems, not after the display of dominance. She knew her place now, and perhaps she'd be someone interesting to talk to later down the line. She had known Vodnitvar in the other pride, after all. It would be interesting to hear stories about him from a cub's perspective. "I'll go with you," she declared, returning the nuzzle. It calmed her down considerably and made her feel far more at peace than she had felt moments ago. "Come along," she added, glancing over her shoulder at Frite. "If you're to live here, there's a few rules you'll need to know." She began to explain to their newest member all about the gypsy way of life, from their ceremonies to their nicknames as they walked to the dens. She hoped she'd find life here was safe as Fireheart found it to be. Depawsit Last post from me! Only 2 more days until the 15th! Once you're done with that SRP we'll be ready to go =D
