BACKLOGGED - BIISA AS AN ADOL, PARTING WAYS

User Image

Ngauri yawned as she stretched her paws out, moving from the shady spot she and her son had occupied since the great fire ball had been right over head. The heat was not something she was interested in, and she though that any lion or lioness with a pelt as dark as hers would be feeling the same. Why bother moving forward in your travels if you were just going to feel sluggish and become dehydrated? Only a moron would be so wreckless... she eyed Biisa for a moment and found herself chuckling.

Hadn't he been the one to beg to continue on instead of waiting? The poor boy... some days she thought he wouldn't go far in life. Most days, recently, she'd been thinking that it did him no good staying so close to her side. While she loved her son and didn't mind the idea of living along with him for the rest of her life... at the same time, she also thought that it would do him good to so search the world on his own. Without mother's help. Her tail gave a little flick and she bumped her head into his, his mane was already beginning to grow in. He was turning into a handsome son, a child she could be proud of. "Biisa, up. We'll be going now." Her pale eyes flicked away from the boy, sliding over the lands that would greet their paws welcomingly. She still hadn't found the swamps, it was a constant irritation. Besides that though, Biisa also constantly wanted to stop here or there or check out something she deemed stupid and not worth their time.

Yes, it was probably time to let him loose on the world... a bittersweet moment for any mother.

Biisa groaned, tolling away from whatever irritating noise was trying to infiltrate his ears and whomever was trying to nudge him awake. He did not want to get up, as he was having a very nice dream. In consisted mostly of several pretty lionesses as well as a successfully hunted water buffalo... hunted by the lionesses, of course. He was alright at hunting, but definitely did not do as good a job as a pride of lionesses could. Not that he saw lionesses working together to take down a prey animal very often. He'd seen his mother join in on a hunt maybe two times... three times tops. He felt another nudge and growled slightly, blinking open one eyes. "Alr'y?" He mumbled, sighing deeply as he closed his eye.

For someone who had suggested moving on in the hot sunlight instead of resting in the cool shade... well he certainly shouldn't have been sleeping! He made a show of not wanting to get up at all before he stretched out his legs and got to his paws, yawning heartily. "So where're we goin' next ma?" He grinned. He still felt pretty tired, but he was excited for continued adventure! He'd forgotten where they were really headed to due to all of the strange things they'd gotten to see and the weird lions and lionesses they'd met.

Trying to wake Biisa up was such a hassle sometimes. She wondered why he couldn't just be more energetic or easy to wake. She definitely didn't take that long to rouse herself from slumber... maybe his father had been in such a way? It'd been long enough that she couldn't remember. The affair hadn't been overly romantic or drawn out... it'd simply been a night of fun for Ngauri. She saw nothing bad about that... really she couldn't understand lions and lionesses who chose to stay in long relationships instead. Didn't they feel tied down?

She sat herself back down as she waited for her son until he was fully on his paws, and only then did she get back up and move forward. She bumped her head into his shoulder and smiled sadly. This would probably come as a shock to her son... but there wasn't anything she wanted to do for it. He had to learn to be on his own, didn't he? "Well, I'll be continuing on my quest to find the swamplands..." She trailed off at the questioning look he was giving her. "And I think now would be good a time as any to let you go off on your own for a while." She cleared her throat, watching him to see how he would react.

Well... he certainly wasn't sleepy any longer. He was actually quite confused at his mother's words. "Go off on my own?" He repeated, looking troubled and a little hurt. Was she serious? What sort of joke was this? And... oh! The swamplands! Right, that was where they'd been heading to from the start, hadn't it? Was she mad because he kept putting them off of their main goal? He cleared his throat and sat down, stumped.

"Is it because I keep bringin' yeh away from the swamps?" Maybe if he promised to be good and stopped wanting to see different areas and meet other lions she'd let him stay! That sounded like a good deal, didn't it? Being alone was terrifying to Biisa... he'd probably die out there by himself!

She smiled weakly as Biisa tried to bargain back into her favor, expecting him to act like this. His brother and sister had already long since left her side, so why was he so set on staying? "Now Biisa! Since when have I raised you into a coward?" She chided a little, slightly playful but mostly serious. She moved forward to nuzzle him fondly. "It's not because we keep stopping and visiting other things. Seeing the world is a good thing..." But how to explain this so it wouldn't hurt his feelings?

"I just think that you need to experience being without me for a little while. Not forever..." She began to groom his face a little. "Just... for a time." Her tail flicked and she moved away, sighing as she stood. "Of course you can find your own way to the swamps and meet up with me in the future, that's not a problem... I just really do think it would do you some good to find out who you are, without your mother's influence."

So what it came down to, he thought, was that his mother had finally grown tired of him. Sure she made some valid points... but it was clear as day that she needed a break. Biisa felt a little guilty, having come to this conclusion.

"Well... guessin' thats true." He mumbled, a little sulky. It wasn't like he didn't know how to hunt (though he preferred when his mother did that for him) or meet other lions (though he preferred her to approach strangers first as well) or.. oh. Oh, is that why she wanted him to go on his own for a little? It was finally coming together in his head!

"But I'll be able to come back and see you, right?"

She chuckled lightly and nodded. "Of course you can come see me, didn't I just say that?" She smacked him playfully with a paw, but her expression grew somber as she again nuzzled into her son. He was already as big as her, and quickly he would tower over her. She suspected the next time they met he would be a fully grown adult.

"Don't rush, take your time.... you'll find me when you're ready." Those would be her parting words, she decided. Definitely no goodbyes, that always implied a sort of finality to her. She licked his cheek before turning and beginning her journey on again.

He nodded slowly after her words, still feeling a little unsure about the whole ordeal. As she nuzzled into his beginnings of a mane he returned the affectionate action. He could be out in the rogue lands for as long or as little as he liked, is what he was getting from her words. He did not realize, of course, that in the coming moons he would figure out that he was not the most sensible of lions; Finding the swamps would be much easier said than done in his case.

As she turned to go he took a few steps after her, wanting to call out or maybe ask her once more to stay. Did he have to be like his brother and sister? Couldn't he learn just as much about himself by her side? He sighed and sat himself down. He supposed he couldn't, not really. "Be good ma! Donnae get inter any trouble, yeh hear me?" He called out, now that she was a good distance away.

When she heard her son calling after her she rolled her eyes a little, but a grin had broken out on her maw. He was doing a lot better than she thought he would, honestly. She turned herself about so she could watch him, but continued padding backward. "Hey! Shouldn't those be my lines?" She returned in good humor, tail flicking.

He was already doing well, wasn't he? "I'll see you in the swamplands Biisa! You better not forget!" Or kill yourself, she added privately. She turned back, quickening her pace.

He laughed too when she replied and shrugged his shoulders, though she was pretty far off by now. He rose back to his paws, watching until his mother turned into a little spec that was unrecognizable to his eyes.

So now he would start his journey of growing up... wasn't that cheesy? He stood for just a while longer before looking around. He even went in a fully circle, unsure of what direction to start out in. He didn't want to backtrack and he didn't want to follow directly after his mother because that sort of felt like cheating...

"Guessin' this way will do." He said softly to himself, and then also left the scene.
