Since the spar with Harrison, Rep had been thinking about the various properties of FEAR, things he hadn't considered in any real depth before. He'd never really paid much attention to it as anything other than energy to be siphoned off and used as an offensive weapon, power turned against it's owner. He'd never really considered that to use it, you had to carry it around with you, that it became in some ways a part of you the same way your weapon was.

It raised a lot of questions and idle questions that didn't have answers, most of the time when he fought he was in the zone, not paying attention to exactly what he was doing or the forces involved. That was something he felt, should probably change.

Waiting until both of them were in the room and Jordan didn't seem to be too preoccupied with anything much he casually asked "So like. You know how I'm like. Trying to get my charge under control and s**t. Like, friendly spars and whatever." He wasn't good at hiding vaguely ulterior motives. "Would you want to?"

Jordan looked up, surprised. Now that he thought about it, they hadn't ever managed to have an actual friendly spar - whenever they'd faced off on the training grounds, one or the other of them had had something to prove, and it definitely hadn't been fun. And now that Ferros had gotten awkwardly large, he felt a little weird about sparring with anyone - but against Tracey, who was also awkwardly huge, the idea was much less worrisome. "Sure," he said, pleased. "Now? I'm off duty for a while."

Rep couldn't help the eager grin as Jordan agreed. "Now suits me just fine, wasn't doing anything else." And sprawled on the couch as usual, he wasn't.

He hauled himself to his feet and fetched his coat, tossing it on - it just didn't feel right fighting without it on, and headed to the door, hovering to wait on Jordan to join him. Other people lately he was still nervy to spar, anxious that Tracey would make mincemeat of them the way had happened to Rin, but with Jordan armed with Ferros, that lurking fear was nowhere in sight.

There was a flighty excitability in the fallen angel's voice that made him smile. He didn't think it was as much about the winning as he made out.

When they got to the training fields he summoned Tracey, carrying him low to the ground, trying to ignore the fallen angel reacting like a kid a Christmas rather than a dignified weapon.

Jordan pulled his own coat on, grinning. "You look like someone gave you a new toy or something," he teased, and followed.

Ferros was agitated already, unusually so; the dragon usually didn't get worked up until he'd begun taking in Fear to gain a charge, but now, even on the walk to the fields, he was restless, his rumble notching up in intensity, radiating an odd combination of nervous anticipation and uneasiness.

What's up with you? Jordan asked as he summoned the weapon.

I don't know, Ferros answered. The red glow of his runes pulsed unevenly.

Huh. Feeling strange?

Not bad strange. Let's go, I want to fight.

Okay then. "Don't go easy on me," Jordan told Rep, smiling.

"When do I ever?" he replied easily, surprisingly upbeat and happy. Normally on the battlefield there was nothing but stress and anger. It was nice to associate these training fields with something else, something more positive. His anticipation mingled with Tracey's as he dropped into battle stance.

He wanted to know what Ferros felt like.

The swing was even, controlled, unafraid. It felt good to be fighting against a weapon of similar scale to the axe, made it feel normal.

Jordan brought Ferros around as Rep swung; the sound of metal on metal was surprisingly musical, the shock of contact sending a jolt all the way down into his arm. He could feel Tracey drawing off Ferros's Fear, the top edge of the shield slicing cleanly away. "Good point," he answered cheerfully. "I won't either."

He let the rebound momentum from the strike pull him back, planting his foot and spinning to bring Ferros around in a rapid circle, his smile widening into a sharp-edged grin. It felt good to spar with no disagreement between them, just to play.

Jordan really wasn't ******** kidding when he said he wouldn't go easy on him, the swing was startling, Ferros apparently capable of all the momentum of a steam train, unstoppable once he got going. The strike collided with his shield with a blow that sent him reeling backwards, falling in an undignified sort of way right onto his butt.

"Woah man!" he said, wide eyed and giddy, not able to keep the smile off his face, it was good to be able to throw this kind of power back and forth without malice. And already he was getting a feel of charge, low and faint, but somehow warm.

Again he struck, nothing to what Ferros had been capable of, but the serrated feathers persistent and sharp.

Tracey's blade slid across and through Ferros's shield, a sharp, precise, brief pain as the edges of the blade sliced through flesh but left no mark. The moment of concern as Rep had fallen back, knocked to the ground, had evaporated as Rep laughed giddily, bright-eyed and happy, and rolled back to his feet. Jordan couldn't help returning the smile. "Good one!"

Ferros rumbled excitedly, and Jordan could sense the gathering edge of a charge, heat and pressure tempered and refined by a kind of cool, delicate smoothness. Feathers, he realized, startled. That was Tracey's FEAR he could feel, like the lazy soft brush of feathers against skin. Again, Ferros urged.

Jordan darted in again, sweeping the huge hammer in a sideways arc and up, power gathering smooth and effortless in his hands as Ferros struck hard.

Again the swing from Ferros was bone rattlingly powerful but again it didn't phase Rep. He'd have been insulted if he suspected Jordan to be holding back on him at all, all these shield rattling attacks meant to him was that he had faith in Rep to handle it. He found himself almost regretting wearing a jacket out, it was hotter than he remembered, a lot hotter, and it was only as he gathered himself up again into a battle stance that he realised it wasn't.

Tracey offered, paying as much attention to the charge as he was to the current touchy state of their shield. He wasn't upset though, quite the opposite as he crooned, his words broken up and with more than a hint of desperation. almost, close. We need more, just a little.>

He swung and in his giddiness, coupled with Tracey's own excitability, missed.

Tracey's blade swept past, the stir of air like the sweep of wings; Jordan pivoted and brought Ferros around more gently, aiming for Rep's backside as he turned. "Missed me," he teased.

The rush of energy and Ferros's excited snarl told him that they had a full charge; the feeling was different somehow, the heat a dizzying rush laced with something that felt like swirling wind. Yesss, Ferros hissed. Let me, I want, I want to -

We can't flame, Jordan said distractedly. Too much.

No, that's not. I want to, it won't hurt -

Rep gave Jordan the most scandalised oh-no-you-didn't look as he took a swing to the rear. Tracey, rather than his usual affront to attacks when Rep fought other people seemed to find this absolutely hilarious, but still had to point out.

Be careful. >

But still there was that raw and almost painful yearning for more, a taste of that rich warm fear that was close but not close enough.

This time they didn't miss, the infusion of fear sending Tracey off the edge into charge, making his feelings on this known very vocally in Rep's thoughts. It was too risky to use the big hitter wasn't it? He'd said the shield was low. But Rep wasn't sure he could handle this level of fear for too long, it was intense, all coiled steam, weights and flame, mingled with Tracey's darkness and lightness, it was difficult to find a middle ground. No gray only black and white.

"Shield's getting low." he admitted almost irritably.

The incredulous, scandalized look he got made Jordan laugh, and once he started, he had trouble stopping. The feeling of the charge was making him weirdly giddy. The graze and jolt of Tracey's blade helped. Once he managed to calm down, he gave in to Ferros's silent, excited urging; instead of bringing the hammer back for a swing, though, he felt Ferros guiding his hands to hold the hammer up horizontally in front of him, one hand laid flat against the head to steady it.

Ferros's runes pulsed rapidly, brightened, and the soft inner glow that radiated from the fissures on the hammer's head grew steadily stronger as the sensation of breathless pressure built - and then, without warning, warm steam hissed from the cracks in a swirling cloud, first gathering around the weapon, then flowing away to wrap itself around Rep and Tracey, lingering for long moments before dissolving again.

Jordan stared at Ferros, then at Rep. "The hell," he said.

Rep was expecting a charge from Ferros, it was only logical, if he'd managed to somehow siphon off enough fear for a charge then there was no reason why Jordan - who'd been hitting a hell of a lot harder the whole time - wouldn't have too. He was expecting it to hurt, probably a whole ******** lot. He wasn't expecting what happened. As the steam swirled towards him he almost leapt away, expecting it to sear or burn.

Trusting Tracey, he stayed, letting it curl around him and the axe, wherever it lingered it left a settling warmth, healing and mending the damaged shield. Tracey in his thoughts sighed audibly, something almost painfully familiar about the steady and reassuring heat. The charge remained though, and now, only now did he feel safe to do anything about it.

Rep for the time being was resigned to the angel's whims, there was something beyond what he understood at play here and, having as much fun as he was, he was willing to let it slide and entertain him.

"I'm charged too." he said with a smile at Jordan, a boast and a warning, he was done taking people by surprise with his charge. Beyond that though, he couldn't hold it at bay, Tracey was more eager than he'd felt him in a very long time, and as he charged and leapt, it was far easier than normal to give himself over to the fallen angel, fall into sync with him as he swung the axe over his head.

There was that perfect moment of not being able to feel where one of them ended and the other began.

And then he fell, crashing against Jordan's shield with as much force as he could muster, simultaneously willing it to give and to hold, dread at if it broke and giddy delight at showing off warring for dominance. He dropped to the ground unsteadily and staggered back a few feet.

The steam had been - a healing FEAR? When did you learn to do that? Jordan asked.

I have no idea, Ferros replied, sounding very pleased with himself.

Jordan's attention snapped back to Rep at the warning. "Let's see it, then," he said, and braced himself, setting his feet in a stable stance and lifting Ferros at an angle to ready himself.

Nevertheless, he wasn't fully prepared for it. Tracey smashed into them with punishing force, shoving Ferros aside effortlessly and slicing down across Jordan's chest, flinging him back a good six feet, his shield nearly disintegrating. As he caught his breath and picked himself up, he grinned at Rep, delighted and impressed. "That was fantastic," he said. "I think we ought to take a break, though. Pretty sure we can't take another good hit without completely breaking the shield." Then he laughed. "You win."

He got the distinct sensation of a pout from Ferros. I liked that. Can we do it again? Tracey is very strong.

I don't really feel like having infirmary time, Jordan said dryly. We can do it again later.

Rep absolutely beamed at Jordan as he complimented his charge, more than a little delighted at him being entirely intact and without missing extremities as a result. It seemed that Rin had been an unlucky err in his judgement rather than the norm and that in itself was an enormous relief.

Tracey wasn't so keen on a break though, still surprisingly chafing at the bit. But he put his foot down, he wasn't about to continue a spar past the point where it needed to wind down.

"You think so?" he asked with a toothy grin. "It was hardly anything compared to what you and Ferr.." he found himself accidentally using the term Tracey had been repeating in his thoughts before absently correcting himself "Err Ferros I mean - were capable of without even a charge. That was amazing man, it was like being hit by a ******** car!" he couldn't help his animated enthusiasm at the strength behind the hammer.

"But aye, a break is like. Probably a good idea, if we don't want to murder each other. Tracey doesn't want to quit but I don't fancy like actual ******** broken bones, no offence Ferros."
