The Cat C15 on-highway engine comes packed with the power, performance and reliability Cat owners have come to expect and soon it can be spec'd with 600 or 625 horsepower. As the leading choice for owner-operators, fleets and heavy haulers who want high horsepower performance combined with unmatched durability and superior resale value, the C15 delivers. Built to last with series turbochargers, a higher compression ratio, and higher cylinder pressure to produce improved performance, better throttle response and increased fuel economy. And like all heavy duty engines with ACERTâ„¢ technology, the C15 also features rugged components such as steel single-piece low friction pistons, four-bolt connecting rods and a high-efficiency water pump.

With peak torque ratings up to 2050 lb-ft, the C15 provides excellent startability and exceptional hill-climbing capability. And even with 625 horses under the hood, you can still expect low maintenance costs and long engine life. The engine essentially serves as a base for the hybrid design utilized in many vehicles, and shares commonality among most vehicles. Designed to operate at it's maximum efficient ratings, the durable, low RPM engine is intended more or less to be used with a hybrid design, in order to provide power and commonality among a wide array of vehicles. The C15 is a 15.2L engine that powers semis that are regularly used to power vehicles weighing approximately 80,000 pounds. The engine is also designed to be incredibly fuel efficient, making it ideal for use in hybrids. The engine is designed to be used with high compression, turbo and super chargers, and precise injection events to make the C15 use fuel as efficiently as possible. A more efficient engine also means less soot and less fuel consumed during regeneration, and greater durability over long periods of time.

Hybrid Fuel Maximization

The vehicle output produces the most horsepower and torque at roughly 1500-1600 RPM, where it is optimized to run. At higher RPM's, the engine experiences significant wear and tear due to the high speed friction and increased heat as a result, in addition to awkward pressure ratios. Allowing the engine to run at it's most efficient design, a hybrid design allows an otherwise durable, powerful engine to produce it's maximum fuel economy without suffering acceleration or power issues. This equates to roughly 800-1000 RPM, to maximize gains (although horsepower isn't a significant concern, since it is utilized simply to power a battery and capacitors, so torque can more than compensate). This particular engine is renown for it's power output, fuel economy and reliability. As a result, it's capable of putting out enormous power, with relatively high fuel economy.

Like the FED Bravo, the engine is capable of reducing fuel usage by some 70%, thanks to it's low RPM, turbocharged diesel engine. Using diesel, the engine is capable of producing a higher fuel economy, which equates to fuel less usage, more range, and reduced logistical supplies. The engine has an easy time accelerating 80,000 pound or 40 ton payloads, has a million hour life time, and a very high level of efficiency, while also being compact and small enough to fit inside of a standard vehicle.
