"What do you mean I don't have clearance?" Melvin asked, looking at the mission listing on his phone and back at the tech behind their desk who was typing away some data.
"You're a trainee level hunter. Missions of C rank require intermidate status or assistance from a superior for clearance to specific areas specifically described in the mission statement that was described in the listing. If you had bothered to read it all, you'd have known this already."
Melvin frowned, trying to make out the small print on his phone. "I did read it!"
"I'm sure you did." The tech said, not even looking at him now.
Melvin wanted off this island for just a little bit, and now there were new listings for missions to be handled on what seemed just a research level.
Sighing, he walked away, looking rather displeased. He needed a superior. Damn, he hated being low ranking!

The minute Rep heard about the newly available external missions, he'd started inquiring into them. Finding out you needed a team had been a bit of a deterrent, and he had set aside his curiosity for a time. Today he was heading back to check the clearance ratings for the respective missions and just as he was arriving, caught Melvin leaving.
"Sup goldilocks?" he asked curiously with a smirk, "Someone wash your dishes?"

Where there was fire, smoke wasn't too far away. Rin had a similar idea in mind; she wanted to see what these new missions were all about. She just barely rounding the corner when she heard Rep's playful teasing. Instant smirk.
"Hello boys~" she crooned playfully at the both of them, "What are you two up to?"

Melvin was very irritated by the time Rep saw him that even the dishes comment made him think of Leon and then he just wanted to...well, he wasn't a particularly physical person, but if there was a test dummy somewhere he'd be sure to shoot it. It was just another instance where he couldn't do more because of rank despite people younger than him being able to go. At this point, Melvin just wanted to be off the island for a little bit. Even he was getting cabin fever in the labs.
"No." He huffed back to the Sun. "I don't have enough clearance to do missions." He grumbled. "Trainee rank." It totally blew, and he looked more like a child who was told he couldn't go on the roller coaster because he was too short. It was totally unfair.
When Rin came around, he couldn't help feel a tad offended. He was sure she'd still be able to go and, while he didn't bring it up, it kicked your pride a little when the one-armed hunter could go on missions and you couldn't.
"Hey Rin." He grumbled. "Nothing."

Rep's smirk just got wider at Melvin's reply, mockingly putting on a silly voice not far off the one he used when addressing minipets. "D'awww, widdle Melvy too wee tae go on missions." He glanced up as Rin showed up, giving her an idle wave before an idea seemed to flutter into his head.
"Well. You could maybe tag along with us."

He derailed himself to glance back to Rin. "I mean if you like. Want to go somewhere maybe."

Rin seemed to light up at the suggestion, "Gladly. There's some people who think I can't swing an ax anymore." Those people were mostly her... but details. They didn't matter too much.
Byr echoed and emphasized her concerns. She shook her head. She wasn't really sure. But in life you either sink or swim and she had to have hope she would not sink.
I will have friends with me. Worse comes to worse, I'm sure they wont let me die.
"Which one you guys thinking of doing?"

Melvin just looked disturbed when Rep used that voice. It only reminded him when he was a lemon tart treat and he had been petted (not to mention enjoying it), and ti sent shivers down his back. "Please don't talk to me like that. Ever." He said, before looking at his phone where he saw the missions listed for volunteers.
"I really hadn't had one picked out. I wanted to see which ones I could even take." It seemed none without others to help him. He hated being a tag along, but at least now he had protection. He had to wonder about Rin though. She had lost her arm and he wondered if she even practiced any with her new handicap.
"Anyone you guys want to go to? I just want to leave the island even for a little while." Yup, Melvin had now reached the point of having cabin fever. It only took him a few months to get there, but he was now there. The recent meeting they all had hadn't helped any.

Rep gave Rin a challenging grin, he wasn't sure if she could weild a weapon efficiently either but in his world the only way you found these things out was by leaping in at the deep end and seeing if you could swim. He had faith she was strong enough to cope, and he owed her the chance to regain that confidence under his protection for what it was worth.
"I dunno, there was one I saw that I kind of fancied. A like, old amusement park."
To most people it would be stupid, Rep's most disastrous mission to date was in an amusement park, ambushed by a horsemen while horsemen themselves were in their prime and almost murdered. This time there wouldn't be Allan nearby to save him, but at the same time, the horsemen had been decimated. He had to know, had to see if there was some way to prove himself again and regain what pride he had lost.
Melvin though got a narrowed glare as he rejected what Rep had intended as playful teasing perhaps a little more forcefully than Rep would have liked. He mentally made note of it with determination to use that tone of voice on Melvin whenever possible, just to spite him.
"But aye, I'll go there if you guys want, I want ******** out of here."

"A... an amusement park?" The concept rung a bell but she couldn't fully remember. Was that the thing with contests and booths or that thing with rides? Is it abandoned? What's the point then? Was it just like that last mission she went on with the games?
Rin shrugged a shoulder and smiled, either way it could be fun, "Sounds perfect."

Melvin was already reading though the report, not sure if he liked the idea, but deciding it was at least a change of pace. "Takakonuma Greenland Park. Reports made of strange occurrences witnessed by staff and a number of bizarre deaths. Oh, that's charming." Melvin said, checking more details. "Class C mission. Says we need to report to the Lighthouse portal techs to make our request?" He looked up at them.
"We have a lighthouse here?" He hadn't seen it, then again, he hadn't done much outside exploring. Going to fetch Rep on the cliffs and going for a run with Sydney had been the extent of his island adventuring.

"Aye, like the shows." Rep offered as explanation to Rin, unaware this likely didn't help explain in the slightest. He sidled over to look over Melvin's shoulder at the report, giving up when it turned out to mostly be in frustratingly small text, apparently it looked like the intel would have to be up to the lifers. "Sounds like the other missions I went on before we attacked the horsemen. Went to Disney even, kids were going missing from the park and s**t. Be prepared for some nasty s**t - this isn't training any more."
At the question about the lighthouse Rep looked nonplussed. "You've been here ages and you've never been to the lighthouse? It's the big tall lighthouse looking building we catch portals to missions from. It's an actual like. Lighthouse. Or was before whatever happened here."
He didn't wait up, just strode off in the direction of said building, checking his pockets as he went to make sure he'd brought everything he might need. It didn't take long to arrive and stroll inside, where he waited to make sure Melvin hadn't somehow gotten lost between one place and the next, with nerds you never could tell.

"What shows?" Rin asked giving Rep a rather vacant look. Clearly the shows she saw weren't the same shows as him. But then he droned on making it sound less and less fun for the whole 'family'. Rin was starting to feel uncertain she could do this.
It's never too late, Byr
She was about to try and come up with an excuse when, "You didn't see the lighthouse?" Melvin got the deadpanniest deadpan stare that ever did deadpan.

The fact Rin was questioning amusement parks made him raise a manicured eyebrow. "You don't know what an amusement park is? You've never been to one?" From what little he knew of Rin, her father had been a p***k and she had been then put into a institution when she was a teenager. He guessed going to fun places was not part of her childhood memories. The Lifer had to wonder what Rin even did as a child.
Turning his head, he already saw Rep take off. Damnit! That guy needed to slow his a** down. It was a good thing Melvin had long legs himself, but Rep was taller than him which meant he still had to keep up. Then there was Rin, who he made sure was close with them.
When Rep pointed out what the lighthouse was, Melvin frowned. "THAT's a lighthouse? I thought it was a tower, but no. There is a lot of fog here, Rep. It's not like I step outside and see everything clearly." Once outside, he tried to make out the shape of what he assumed was a tower but was now confirmed as a lighthouse. "That is the saddest Lighthouse I've ever seen, and I've seen a lot." Growing up in Rhode Island, you tended to see your fair share.

Rin got a slightly incredulous look from Rep. He'd never been to a big theme park before deus but the little shows with their waltzers and dodgems had been a tinier scale of the larger sprawling locations. "Shows. Like big wheels and s**t.", he shrugged, it was one of those language barriers and he wasn't sure he would be able to talk around it.
Melvin got a toothy grin. "Aye aye. Well in future pay attention. You get used to the fog eventually."
His smirk dropped into an attempt to keep a serious face as he elaborated on his lighthouse familiarity. "Anyway, Captain Goldilocks. If you just like look over to starboard. That's our portal, under yon lighthouse."
He addressed the tech on duty, rhyming off the mission details as best he could and observing while the bored man set up their portal access. Once it was up, Rep once again strode on ahead, hopping into the portal with a spring in his step. It would be ******** good to get off the island, no matter where they ended up.

"Nah," Rin quietly confessed to Melvin. She'd never really been, but it had nothing to do with the assumption that her father was always an a**. Mostly that they never had any money to burn on such things.
She was a bit caught off guard as Rep shouted something about wheels and seemed to run off while Melvin was close enough on his heels that Rin had to run after both so as not to tug Melvin in two different directions so she wasn't left behind.
When they arrived, she managed to overhear about how pitiful this lighthouse looked compared to all other lighthouses Melvin has ever seen. She couldn't help but snerk playfully. Clearly he failed to see the innuendo she saw.
"So you like lighthouses eh? You like them thicker or longer than this one?"
