Dakota led the tall redhead into his room and shut the door behind him. A moment of awkward silence before he sat on the bed.
"Where do you want me to start then Clerise...Before or after the mission went to hell and back?" he sighed, rubbing his eyes. "You saw me when I came back Clerise, What was said in the briefing was utter bullshit."

As soon as the door was closed, Clerise pressed the heels of her palms to her eyes, as if the pressure would somehow silence the cacophony of rage dancing across her mind.
Her shoulders sagged visibly, and the breath she takes in is deep, weary.
"I saw you when you came back. You told me Ceres died, and Bix." Her tone went sharp. "We've all been through hell, Dakota. It's stitched into us like a badge of honour, pressed into our skin like a brand."
She flexed her hands. "Start from the beginning." Clerise frowned, running a hand through her red hair. "Please? I need to detail this. I need to know what happened, to spin it in a way that he wants to hear."

"I'm sorry, I'm sorry. I messed up. This was a big ******** mess." He ran his own hand through his hair, mirroring her before closing them together. "Ceres and Bix had died."
"I came into the mission late, been lost in the house before I got to where the hunters were at. When I got there...Rep had just cut down Bix, or Bix who was a sun hunter fused with his weapon. It was bad. And the hunters turned to take Ceres next.."
He closed his eyes as it replayed in his mind. "Ryan and Kat were defending her, or it. The monster. I was going to attack at first but I saw Ryan, he told me it was Ceres. Told me Ceres was formed with her weapon. She wasn't attacking the hunters at all but there was others who were attacking her..." The information started to flood out...

Clerise looked at him-- really looked at him, at the scared boy he was, a bundle of nerves and loyalties and friendships. He didn't belong here, she thought, and it wasn't the first time it had crossed her mind.
Without another word, she stepped into his space, wrapping one arm around him in a tight hug. He had a few inches on her, now, from the way the b*****d had shot up like a weed, but she still held her own. Clerise's other hand came up to card through his black locks, smoothing them back from his forehead. She pulled him down to kiss his temple, chaste.
They were companions, friends, allies. The red-headed huntress was far from unaffected by the show of power Caelius had put on, nor was she unafraid.
{[ I wasn't aware we could ...fuse, ]} Balthazar offered, quiet in her mind. He impressed feelings of confusion, and she pressed back the same.
Me either.
"Keep going," Clerise whispered to Dakota, taking in all of the details with a furrowed brow.

"And it was my friends. Marcus was turned to stone at the time so I couldn't rely on him. And Ceres was moon you know? Moons defend our own, we defend in general!" The anger started to rise for minute before being burrowed so he could get the details out. "The fog surrounded us. Me, Wilson, Kat, Eva, Ariane, Ryan and Deryk as we defended Ceres from Rep...and Lex." He shook his head.
"Rep had gone mad or something, he was shouting orders that Caelius had told them to ******** kill Bix and Ceres. KILL THEM! Like they were inhumane, Ceres hadn't even attacked a single hunter!"
Dakota started to get faster with his speaking, louder.
"The mist, fog whatever. it did something to us. We could hear each others thoughts and we started this chain to stop the hunters." Dakota rubbed his face. "And I had Rep. I wanted Rep to see that we just wanted Ceres to be okay and we'd figure it out but..."
Jesus...
"Rep wouldn't listen, he told me I was disobeying orders. That he was going to slaughter Ceres like he did Bix, He almost did. If I wasn't there, he probably would've. I was the defense for Ceres against him. He said things, they made me angry. So ******** angry." He cleared his throat.
"And then I said things back, I told him that I would kill him before he even got close to Ceres, I told him that no one on the island would miss him because all he was a ******** monster." Dakota shook his head. "he was so goddamn intent on killing, and then he told us that we were freaks, people who were weighed down by emotions and morals."
Dakota had gotten up at one point and started pacing. "It didn't matter anyways. Ceres got blasted by that b***h of a halloweener Red. I don't know what her deal was, I was still fighting with Rep at the time."
"Caelius engaged Red when the students started to rally around her, then they fought and she overpowered him." He looked at Clerise, "Caelius sacrificed himself to defend us, got himself ******** up by Red and Red sent us on our way to ******** return with dead hunters and tableted weapons. And we left Caelius for her."

She listened. Clerise wasn't the best at remembering things, but Balthazar was; he recalled details better than she ever could.
It certainly explained why Rep and Dakota hadn't gotten along at the meeting. Were there other tensions that she'd been blind to? Like Rep and Sasha, was that new, too?
The picture Dakota painted was an ugly one, and Clerise honestly couldn't tell what side she would have taken. Ceres and Bix were strangers to her; but had it been Clarice...? Dakota...?
As horrible as Dakota made Rep (and Lex, whoever that was) sound, Clerise still wanted to talk to him. He was in the right, apparently, according to the rules of Caelius. Even if the rules seemed like bullshit. Rep had probably acted within the lines, but if what Dakota said was true...
Weighed down by emotions and morals. With how closely joined to his boys as he was, Clerise found it disgustingly hypocritical. Clerise was seized by a paroxysm of rage, white-hot. Why should his attachments be more important than those of the people around him?
Things were complicated, here. They faced the fantastical every day, and yet--
"Who's Red?" Clerise asked, baffled. "Because as far as I know, I wasn't there. Is there another Red?" 'Should I be jealous?' she almost tacked on, but the words died in her throat.

Complications couldn't explain the first of it at all. Dakota shook his head.
"Red was the werewolf, back in the day. It was before i was a hunter I think. but I read some reports and some hunters that were there they time it happened. You know Jerry. Thats where he got his mark...burn on his face was against that b***h." He stopped, "She's like some godly figure for the ******** monster freaks-Rise from the dead moral ******** support or something."
"She's not like you red, not even remotely close. Not even worthy of sharing your name." He just shrugged.
"Then we got sent back here. Told that Ceres and Bis were actually dead. DEAD dead. All of our time and effort and trying to protect them.....We came back without weapons, ******** torn to pieces and you know who walked around like the mother ******** king of the world?" Dakota hands ******** Rep did. Killed Bix, close to killing Ceres, and he comes back ******** top man of the ******** world." Dakota threw his fist at the wall. "And I'm getting a punishment because I chose a hunter instead of following the dickwads orders."

Well, that clarified some things, at least. A werewolf who burns people? Clerise supposed there had been stranger things in the world. "Caelius is as Caelius does." Her voice was cold, lips drawn tight. "I hate him. Nearly killed Reine and almost chopped my head off. And I'm related to him, thanks to that soul-sucking little b***h of a cousin of mine." Her voice was dark, each word dripping with vile hatred, an explosion of emotion. She bared her teeth again, lips drawn back. "So I don't agree with his methods. Don't mistake me. But he's the ringleader. I don't know what I would have done, but I know I need you alive." Clerise pulled back, a pitying look written on her face. "Your heart is on your sleeve," she said. "The judgment's been made. No one has to agree with him, but...listen. You can't do that again. Not so brazenly. Not so boldly." She watched him hit the wall, emotions torn. "Rep has problems, but that's neither here nor there. Not now. Not when lives are on the line. This is when you appease the mad king and hope to god it's what he wants before you ignore him again."

"Caelius is a ******** grand puppeteer." Dakota ground his fist in the wall after the punch and sighed. "One day though, sure he'll get whats coming to him. I pray for it every goddamn night. Not even a religious man." Dakota looked at her and remembered.
"I was there, I remember. ******** bait." The next proclaimtion left him stun though, "Holy s**t on a stick Clerise." Whoa...Whoa that was like a nuclear bomb dropped in the middle of the field of cluster ******** and just...Cousin? holy s**t.
Holy s**t.
"HOLY s**t DUDE." He held up his hand, pinched the bridge of his nose and took a deep breath. "Alright. Alright okay." He came over to the bed, sat next to her and all the anger that was dulled from the shock turned into a awkward smile at her.
"Sometimes you say the nicest things, You might woo me with all your bold declerations." He batted his eyelashes at her, a smile not quite reaching his face. "I'm too young, I'm trying. I'm trying really hard to find that part of me that needs to follow orders. One that doesn't let friends dictate what I do." He looked away, almost shamed. "I just haven't found it yet. I know...I know." He shook his head, "It won't happen again. I can't die. And I can't let others die for me..." He curled his lip at the mention of Rep before letting it die.
"Then let's write this report. Do you need anything else?"

"That he is. But if he cuts your strings, you will fall." But then Dakota exploded, presumably over her blood relation to the devil. "I know, right? When I found out I flipped my s**t. Poor Otto made the mistake of sparring with me." She laughed a little, because of how shellshocked Dakota was. Clerise reached out to ruffle Dakota's hair. "I don't need to woo you, you're my little drummer boy, bro." A smile graced her lips, but like Dakota's, it didn't quite reach her eyes. It didn't warm her face. "Being loyal to your friends isn't something to be ashamed of, nor is it something you should baulk away from. But...moderation." The redhead shook her head. "I'm going to go talk to some other people. To get as much detail as possible. Rep, maybe my cousin. Mimsy, not the devil." A sigh, and then she started to head out. nyxtsuki moon wrap unless you want to do more biggrin

Dakota nodded and got up, following her to the door and leaning on the door jam. If he was bothered by her going to talk to Rep, he didn't show it. Especially considering her friendship to the other redhead.
Instead he shrugged, "I'll work on my part of the report to appease the devil then. Ping me when you turn yours in so I can do the same." He reached out and brushed a hand over her hair. "I'm sorry...about all this." Shame.
It burned into him as he looked down. To drag Clerise down with him, Selfish. and yet he couldn't let go. She was literally his lifeline, someone he was trusting to keep him alive.
"Ah Clerise..." Something inside him wanted to ask, if it was him. If it was him who had transformed...would've she done the same? Or cut him down? The mission had done more then break bonds. It had put doubts in his mind, doubts about friends...about people...about this job and about himself.
"Be safe Red. Remember, ping me when we turn the reports in kay?" and with that, he watch her go. Too scared by doubts, To scared to face the truth.
Life had been so much easier when he was high schooler.Astrabot That's a wrap! Thanks for the Arpeeeee
