Bousvor wasn't sure how he had ended up on a viking with Gabriel's brother. It didn't really matter who he went with really. Merely it was interesting to be on one with the only lion who'd beaten him so far in a askorun. He glanced at the other male, then looked around again. They were lost. Yup. Somehow the two males had gotten separated from the band. Bousvor was sure they would eventually meet up again.
"Well?" The option was to keep looking for the band, or foucs on the objective first then look for the band. Bousvor was in favor of hunting. The trouble they caused could possibly bring them to the attention of the band. Assuming said band was looking for them. He twitched his ear. It didn't bother him to hunt and return home without the band, though he thought they might not get such a warm welcome as when everyone returned at once.

Azrael probably should have cared more that they had gotten separated from the band, but he did not. He was more interested in finding signs of their objective and finishing what they came for. The rest of the band should not have been so careless as to leave Az and Bousvor, in Az' opinion. The dark male was pretty sure that he and the lighter male with him had the best chance of catching something out of the whole band. Mostly because a few of those lot were fresh recruits from what he had seen. Barely out of cubhood and trying to play Reaver, they had seemed to the male.
Just thinking about them made Azrael smirk. Let the Captain deal with that lot while the experienced adults did the real work. It would work out just fine without the green blood in the way. "Well, we hunt. Captain is capable of handling the rest of the band, and WE have a job to do. Besides, the others will likely catch up to us sooner or later." Later rather than sooner if things went in their favor. The dark male had seen what his sister brought home from her first viking, and while he did not want a Thrall, he certainly did not want to fail his task when his sister had done SO well.

Somehow the answer didn't surprise him. Bousvor gave a tiny smirk. On their own it was. And prey the hunting was good, so the captain didn't ream them when he found them. Not that he was going to abandon Azrael to go look for the band. They were better off as a team. Course decided, he turned his full attention to the problem at hand. Find enough prey to make this a worth while trip.
He glanced at Az. Given a preference he would hunt large game rather than small. Bousvor cast about for suitable signs. He saw gazelle prints, but they were days old. Warthogs and cheetah tracks. Finally he reached over and nudged Az. Pointing toward some relatively fresh zebra tracks. Bousvor arched his brow, silently asking if those were a good choice.

Azrael searched around for signs of something worth hunting while the other male did the same. He was starting to actually LIKE this guy mostly because he was not an idiot or into Gabe. Either one of those things would have made the male horrible to Az for the rest of his life. The dark male did not take too kindly to those that were truly stupid or those that were into his sister. It was even worse on the second if his sister returned the sentiment even in the form of friendship. This male seemed to be smart and safe, though.
Azrael found tracks of some rabbits some old tracks of other things, but nothing to get excited over. He felt the nudge on his shoulder and looked up, then to where the other male indicated, and a grin spread across his muzzle. Fresh zebra tracks! That was a good find, especially with the two of them to hunt in a team. He nodded to the other male's questioning arched brow and started forward, sniffing and crouching down some. They were very fresh tracks. He let the other male take the lead since it had been his find.

Bousvor knew by the grin the find had been accepted. He accepted head position when it because obvious Az was going to let him lead. Very well. The tawny male lead the way along the tracks. Creeping slowly and taking his time; he didn't want to scare the prey away before they were ready. His eyes noted the landscape. Slightly dry with a fair amount of shrubbery trees. They could use the cover, but it would make the chase more difficult.
He spotted a good hiding spot surrounded on three sides by fairly thick shrubs. Perhaps an ambush. Bousvor moved on. He stalked the zebras for better part of an hour before they finally came into sight. With a flick of his tail, he warned Az then stopped. His green eyes observed the herd as he waited for the other lion to join him.

Azrael followed after the other male, keeping low and quiet as they went. He was already starting to plot out possible strategies for the hunt, and how he thought the other male might move or what hunting style the other might have. There were many possibilities, but some things just did not seem to fit with what he knew of the other male. Those could be scrapped right away. There was an advantage to having faced this male in his challenge duel. One tended to learn a lot about another when facing them in a fight, and that information was quite useful when trying to determine how one might hunt.
Azrael was sure his sister would have had this all figured out long ago, but he was not quite as serious and dedicated as she was. He did not spend all his time thinking about his duty and such. Truthfully, if he thought he could have afforded the distraction, he would have been thinking about the tail he might be able to get at home. Unfortunately this was not a task that he could afford the distraction on, so he kept his mind firmly on the task at paw as they crept forward along the trail of zebra tracks.

Bousvor took his time examining the choices. It was a good sized herd, and they could have their pick if they played their cards right. When Az joined him, he leaned over and whispered softly. "Dense brush. Ambush or double chase?" He gave the option to his companion. They could try to run the herd down, hoping the bushes didn't slow them down as much as the larger herbavores. Or set up an ambush with one laying in wait while the other herded the herd. Personally Bousvor knew he'd rather go with the ambush. He felt it gave them a better chance of getting a double kill.

Azrael got abreast of the other male and joined him in looking the herd over. They were a decent sized herd, but thankfully not too big that even trying for them was a risk to one's health. The dark male thought their chances were very good if they did things right. The idea with a herd was always to get a couple chased off from the others and try not to be too tired to catch it when you did. While one could try to just run them down, it was risky, both in the ability of the things to get away and the ability of the herd to turn and try to defend itself.
It would be safest to have one of them hidden away waiting and ambush the herd. The second lion popping out to grab a kill would keep the herd spooked as well, which would keep them from trying to defend against the lions. Azrael shook his head at the other lion. "Chase is too risky... ambush is much better odds." He could easily see getting two of those creatures directed a little to the side of the rest of the herd and a well placed waiting lion taking one down while the chaser got a shot at the second.

He couldn't have been more pleased with Az's answer. Bousvor had been worried that the other male might try to argue his answer was better. Since they both had the same idea it worked quite well. "Saw blind bit back. I'll hide, you chase." He was very much a fan of the simple. Less change for things to backfire.
Bousvor turned and crept away. Keeping low and downwind of the herd. It was up to Az to get them going in the right direction. Once away from the herd he moved to the spot he'd noted before. It would do. The lion backed himself up and settled in to wait. He wasn't sure how long it'd take Az to get into a good position and get the animals going his way. However long it took, Bousvor intended to wait. He had his senses out listening for the coming, and much practise with his observing the lions of his pride.

Azrael could not have asked for things to go smoother with this lion, even if they HAD gotten lost from the rest of the group they were to be hunting with. The two of them seemed to thing along the same lines on how to get things done, and it was working out perfectly for them. He knew the other was not really that much like him on other things, but they made a pretty good team out here. That was where it counted really. Even if they hated each other's guts back at the pride, so long as they could work together out here, everything was great.
Azrael let his companion get a head start on getting to his hiding spot before creeping forward. He did not want to risk spooking the herd before the other got ready. He watched where the lighter male headed, so that he could make sure to chase toward it. It did not do any good to pick zebras out only to have them go away from the ambush. The dark lion was not one that liked to work harder then necessary when there was an easier way right in front of him, and with that in mind he picked his targets and started chasing. Thankfully they went where he wanted easily, spooking off in the direction he wanted while the rest of the herd went another way.

Like the sun rising and setting. He waited, barely moving. Then he heard it. The sound of hooves in the dirt. Limbs of the smaller brushes breaking as panicked herbavores charged through. His back legs tensed. Twenty paces off, then ten. Bousvor waited until they were just around the corner of his hiding spot before he sprang. The timing was flawless. He barreled into a zebra knocking it completely off its feet and startling the other into rearing. The second one wasn't his concern, it was the first. That one was down for sure and he needed to see it stayed down. A quick swipe of his paw dispatched the beast and he turned to check his companion.

Azrael chased the zebras into just the right position for the other lion and had the satisfaction of seeing the first zebra go down just as the second reared in fear. The dark male did not waste time watching the other male dispatch his kill as there was another zebra to worry over. He still had a little distance between himself and what he had been chasing, but it was not much anymore. He used the momentum of his run to power his leap as he went forward to knock the second zebra to the ground. He just hoped he did not get a hoof to anywhere important. He really did want to have to explain those kinds of injuries to anyone.
Thankfully for Azrael, the zebra went down on its side and he was able to dispatch it before it did any damage to him. Its hooves had flailed, and it tried to buck. Even so, the male was able to kill it quickly without being hit by those hooves or bitten by the thing. It was always nice to win over the prey that one was hunting. Az stood over his kill and nodded to the other male. They had done what the group had been sent for, so mission accomplished. Now all they had to do was either take these back to the pride directly, or find the rest of the group first.
Eh, they would figure that out once they caught their breath. Azrael figured they had earned a few moments to catch their breath before they headed back. It had been a very good day for them afterall. The pride would be very happy with the success of this Viking, and he thought his sister might even have something nice to say to him about it. She did like to take the time to congratulate him when he did a good job. Az gave a contented sigh as he thought of their reception back home. Mission accomplished indeed.
