Does anyone have a blogspot? It seems the majority of people here have DA accounts but I haven't seen many blogspot links. There are some really awesome visual development people on blogspot/tumblr that I don't think are on DA that I follow. So if you have a blogspot post it and I'll check it out! Or if you have any really cool visual development artists post them too! I'll post some of the ones I follow as well. There are so many amazing VD artists out there right now. My blogspot. Blogspot is my main place for posting art.

gaia_angelleft Hopefully I'll get an updated blogspot soon, but college has been taking over my life- namely finals, but my studio classes are trying to cram in one last project before the end of the semester.
To be honest, I'm a little weary to post my art online these days. At least, until I need to make a digital portfolio to send out to companies, that is. So many people rely on Google and steal other's images for things ranging anywhere for profile pictures to self proclaimed works. It makes me a little nervous thinking my artwork could be displayed in places I don't approve of, you know?
But your artwork is beautiful, and I really enjoyed checking out your blog. How often do you update it? Do/will you use your blog as a sort of digital portfolio?

Yes it is difficult with the internet and people being thieves. All you can do really is put your signature on your work and make the resolution small, or water marks if you really want safety. But it can't be helped, need the internet eventually unless you're super lucky. I wish I was super lucky! Hehe.
I just don't really think my art is steal worthy yet so I'm a little less concerned haha.
But thanks! :] I try and update it enough that it stays alive. Just depends on what kind of work I have time for or if I actually complete any work I think is somewhat decent enough to go up on there. I try to keep my blogspot a little more professional, only put up things I wouldn't mind any company to see. [Though I need to go through it and delete a lot of my old stuff and clean it up a bit.]
I also do use it as a portfolio. My portfolio tab is hidden right now because I'm working on updating it for the end of January. I've only been out of school for 6 months but already my work has changed a lot and there was a lot in my portfolio I didn't think was good enough anymore. :]
What kind of art do you do? Or school you go to?

suri bee What kind of art do you do? Or school you go to? gaia_angelleft I'm in college to be a graphic designer while toggling another major for audio and video production. So it's a little bit of a mixed bag, especially when you consider all the prerequisites getting into the department. I'm going to be giving my digital portfolio in the spring to have an "official" acceptance into the department (right now only listed as art, it's silly I have to put in 2 portfolios) so I've been working on cleaning it up, too.
I'm just in a university in the states. Nothing fancy, really. But it's affordable. the education thus far has really paid off (mostly in 3D arts, to my surprise- really gotten me interested in installation pieces), and even though it isn't my area of focus, the branching out of my comfort zone is refreshing. :]
Just out of curiosity, do you pay for your web site to stay up? Thankfully my school pays for us to create our own for class, but I'm trying to figure out what I'm doing when I don't have that option anymore...

Wow doing so much! [I wish I would have done more though, now that I've graduated ha.] But it all sounds really interesting. Props to you on doing graphic design too. I had to take some ad graph classes at school and it always confused the crap out of me. What I thought looked sweet was always wrong and what I didn't like was always right most of the time. Haha. I did have a website I paid for, but I made it my junior year and have gotten rid of it now. For the fields I want to get into have a blogspot is perfectly acceptable to showcase yourself and have it be professional looking. Who knows how long it stays that way, but I hope a long time! I really like not having to pay for a website and having to deal with HTML. [which even after two web classes is still not fun for me haha.]Some website places have good deals though, and you just don't want to get tricked into buying all the extra crap. When I had a website it only cost me $12 for a year I think.

Yup! And I update enough to keep my blogs alive. But only if I have things I think are worthy enough to be posted. My actual portfolio though, I'm currently updating it now but thats only the first time in little under 6 months.

gaia_angelleft Hm, okay. I haven't started on my spring portfolio yet, I need to get it prepped soon to officially get in the graphics department. sweatdrop
The problem is that I have 2 professors from last school year that never gave me my work back. I've nearly FLOODED each of their inboxs, and I've gotten nothing in reply. I know at least 1 of them is conscious that they have it because they used it as a sample for planar drawing in this semester's drawing class (one of my friends said she recognized it).
Ugh. I have another professor from this semester that required everyone give her a CD with all of the Photoshop files of edits we used in our final pieces. When I asked for them back come the end of the semester, she refused for "documentary purposes." She won't elaborate and refuses to return it- I'm getting wary that she may try to steal material from one or more of the students in that class.
Am I paranoid for that? Not getting items back for my portfolio may KILL me.

Putting a portfolio together can be so stressful. xD Haha not at all! I hated it when teachers didn't give work back, especially when the work was traditional. I've had friends who never got work back, but somehow I've always managed to get mine. I hope you get yours back and your teachers aren't just ignoring you because they lost your work or something. whee

A spot for blogs? *facepalm*[/quote Hahaha yeah. :] [But everytime I try and type it here in any of the forums my Mac keeps trying to change it to bloodspot, and I'm like no! haha] gonk But blogspot is just another site for people to blog or for artists and their portfolios. I don't know about photography, [that's what you do right? xD], but for things like artists in the animation industry it's really big. There are some really amazing people from all over the world on it that i follow. I do follow one photographer though! I've been following her on one site or the other for about 6 or 7 years now. I don't know if you know of her or not but here's the blog. xxxxxxI love this girls work and just her in general haha. She uses her blogspot as more of a blog for her life and photography than a portfolio. She does a lot of work with her boyfriend so a lot of the photos on this blog are from her boyfriend too.

Yup yup. :] There are different set ups and everything but you can put in your own code for a completely custom blog like this blog I linked to in the previous post. For mine I just took one of the templates they have and went through all the different options to make it my own. It would be really cool to design it a different way like the Road Is Home blog but coding just makes my head hurt. xD Haha. No patience for it.

gaia_angelleft Haha tell me about it. A friend of mine said she talked to the head of the art department and recommended taking pictures of the artwork and putting them in a binder vs. bringing in the physical pieces. I like to document my work anyway, but that might be a cleaner touch to my portfolio. -considers-...
But update on the professors, I surprisingly ran into one after one of my classes and cornered her. She seemed hesitant, but she agreed to give it back to me the following day. So I have my planar drawing returned, but the professor that has all of my work from 2 semesters ago still hasn't replied. I tell you what, I don't know if I trust half the professors I've had thus far. Makes me think they're keeping it for their own. :l
